Mastro's Steakhouse

We chose Mastro's for our 25th anniversary celebration. The Lobster was overcooked, and they do not offer any reduction sauces for the Filet Mignon. When dessert came, they wrote "Happy 25th Anniversary" on the Creme Brulee plate, and after blowing out the candle, the gave my son HIS dessert. They couldn't even give us a scoop of ice cream. We were very dissapointed in this so called "up-scale" restaurant. more

Servers were attentive; even at the bar tables, food came out in a timely manner. Friendly, 5 star service I would say. I have never had a reservation and was able to get right in at the bar tables. Yum, the steaks here are good! There is typically a piano player here, which is nice. more

Valet dinged my car. I have gotten a huge run-around from both the United Parking valet company and Mastro's management leading all the way up to a guy whose last name is Mastro....at least you can say their corporate culture is consistent. For $7 valet parking one would expect that they would treat the car properly. more

I'll be brief & simply talk about food since that's the primary reason why we go out to eat some place. Of all the chain steak houses, I've been to FLemings, Mortons, & Ruth CHris a few times each. But I must say the best is Mastro's. My friend (who introduced me to it) wasn't kidding when he said you didn't need to order any sides because the steak was that good. I agree, although I'll also add that their sauteed mushrooms IMNO is one of the best. I forgot what they add to it other than mushrooms, but it's really good. Steaks have to be tried because I can't really describe it. Amazingly good. Comes sizzling on the platter with clarified butter. Appetizers/sides to consider......gorgonzola mac & cheese & the toasted ravioli. Been to 2 different Mastro's & they always got some one man band going. Try to sit far away from him. Just too loud. more

This is probably the best steak at Los Angeles or just pretty much the best steak I've ever tasted in my life. It's a tier above the Lawry's, Morton's, and the Ruth's Chris'. With it's dark, intimate settings, this a very upscale environment with upscale prices. However, though the prices might be steep (approximately $50 per person), it's an experience that Los Angeles inhabitants must enjoy at least once. Their steak is perfection and their wine list is extensive. There is really not much more to say about it. Pros: steak, wine, ambience Cons: steep prices (but worth it) more

The waiters are extremely professional. Even the seafood is amazing, particularly their selection of oysters and the seafood tower. The martinis come on dry ice and the steak plate is actually still sizzling. The bread is extraordinarly, particularly the pretzel type bread. I am generally a lighter eater, but I love this place. The side dishes are huge, great for sharing. Upstairs is quite noisy and it's where the action is, but if you want a quieter spot to talk, downstairs is great as well. I plan to be a regular here!! more

The steak is exceptionally prepared and exquisite, and make sure that you order some of the side dishes, especially the mashed potatoes with lobster. Those mix in really well with your meal. The steaks come in several portion sizes depending on your appetite, but this food is too good not to have as much as you can. If you aren't a big steak person, the lamb is excellent as well. You definetely want a reservation because on a Friday night, everyone wants to be there! It is certainly pricey, but not excessively so as compared to other stake houses in Beverly Hills or other swank areas. Also, I am from LA and used to seeing celebrities and it's not a huge deal, but John Mayer, Jessica Simpson, Rick Fox and Matt Damon were all there over the course of our evening. Where do I start. I had the Bone in Filet and it was the most amazing steak I have ever had, it was juicy and tender I thought I had died and gone to heaven. We started with the seafood tower which I thought the shrimp were amazing because rarely do you get shrimp that big that taste that good . But watch out for the horseradish it will hurt you as pointed out by our server. Which leeds me to the best point of our dinner. I know most of you won't believe this but our servers name is NICKY VEGAS. He truly guided us threw our Mastro's experience as he will tell that's what he does. He is one of a kind, surely not the best waiter but quite entertaning. He joking told us that he is the most requested server and also is self proclaimed "Waiter to the stars" he's waited on all of the A listers such as Denzel Washington, Hugh Hefner, Tom and Katie not to mention our favorite friend Jennifer Aniston. Truthfully his service was great but that was'nt important, he delivered the full package, great food good service and I really felt like he cared about making us happy. The wine list is a little overpriced but for our benifit we were with somebody that did'nt care and we got to enjoy Cristal with our apetizers and Opus one with our dinner. Make sure you finish your dinner with the Sin cake and a good glass of Congac and you will be in Bliss.
