What can I say, Lucques continues to amaze. The location is nice, the ambience is relaxed and the food is just perfect. I ordered a fish dish which was so flavorful, probably th...

Five of us met at Lucques Saturday night for late cocktails and maybe an appetizer-- the kind of thing LA restaurants and night spots thrive on. We were ignored for nearly 10 minu...

Good food, busy restaurant, but not too noisy 6/16/2007

I recently moved to LA and a friend recommended this place on a shortlist of top places to eat in the West Hollywood area. I've gone back twice already. The place is pricey, and each time we spent about $100/head on moderate drinking, but the food is great and ambiance really good. The room is always busy, but you can have a conversation which is key. The garden in the back is lovely. The food is rich rich rich, and if you want a salad and a fish you've got precisely one choice of each. So go there on weekends when all (my) diet rules are null and void. more

Very Good, AOC is better. 5/31/2007

My husband and I went to Lucques, as we're avid fans of AOC. The food was good, quality excellent, very good service. However, if you like to have different tastes, AOC is better for that. We prefer AOC as the portions are smaller and you can have many different plates/tastes in one evening. Lucques was good, but after the appetizer and full entree we were very full. No complaints, just a personal choice of liking more to taste, hence the AOC preference. Very nice ambiance. more

not worth it 4/19/2007

We went for their Sunday Supper. Service was mediocre at best. You had the feeling they were doing you a favor. Food ingredients were of high quality. My pork chop was raw, not pink but raw. It was taken with a shrug and later returned without apology burned and still raw. Bill was delivered while we were still having dessert. We will not return, will rather go to Suzanne Goin's other restaurant A.O.C. more

Underwhelmed 12/1/2006

Friendly staff (Including Valet, Server, and Host). But reservation was lost. Pros: Very nice and cozy dining room, Exceptional ingredients Cons: Cold food! more

I'd have to give it another chance Was Disappointed 11/5/2006

The table and the service wasn't what we expected after hearing so much about Lucques. The place is really beautiful but the menu was very limited. I only liked the almonds and olives that we staretd with. We're open to going back and giving it a try on a different night other than Sat. Maybe Sunday dinner will be better. this first visit wasn't what it could have been Pros: the ambience and location Cons: food. service and menu were not what we expected they would be more

Cozy and Romantic 11/2/2006

I loved the olives, and the almonds with the coarse salt. I could have had them for my entree...but thank goodness I saved room for the delectable dinner I had. The restaurant has a cozy feel, and it feels like you are in a Cabin in Colorado. Food was delicious, I definitely recommend going to this restaurant. Pros: Cozy, Romantic, Great date spot Cons: nothing more

Really good food! 11/1/2006

I and my girlfriend went here for my B-day and it was a really nice experience. very cozy atmosphere-- not stuffy at all and the food was great. A great rabbit dish and the wine choices were really good as well. The service was cordial and attentive. A must try if you've never been. Pros: Good food, good wines by the glass, good service more

Excellent. 8/13/2006

I went for a Sunday Supper and it was superb. The info above is incorrect though, it now costs $40 per person, but that is still a great bargain for the quality of food. more

consistently good 7/4/2006

The food is always delicious, the atmosphere lovely and comfortable, and it's a nice place to relax and catch up with friends. We love sitting at the bar or out on the patio, but on a cold night the fireplace and booths inside are great too. I always have the fish entrees and they are consistently delicious--not sure why the editorial review says to skip them but to each their own. Suzanne Goin has always had an amazing way with fish and delicious Mediterranean-style cooking, using olives, preserved lemons, tomatoes, and spices in a unique but accessible way. My only complaint is that their grilled cheese sandwiches (bar food) are not nearly as good as Campanile Grilled Cheese night, but other than that Lucques is fantastic. more

Wonderful place, even for a big party 6/4/2006

This is a great place, we had about 16 people and the dinner service did not miss a beat. It is often hard to find a good restaurant that will not disappoint when it comes to larger groups. The food was absolutely delicious and the wine selection was superb as well. more

Simply great food 4/10/2006

I had heard much about Lucques and wanted to try this after being a little disappointed by AOC. Lucques was very good and I was not let down, the service was good too. The Sunday fixed menu for $40 is good value and well worth a visit - I'll be back for the regular weekly menu sometime soon - the menu changes very regularly dependent on what's locally available, so I doubt if it'd ever be dull to go back. Pros: Food, Ambience more

An LA must-visit 3/12/2006

It's hard to strike a balance between stiff formality and the relaxation of homey comfort. Lucques pulls it off seemingly without effort -- an amount of thought goes into their dining experience that would earn someone a doctoral degree in any other field. We were seated immediately and the service was quick and attentive. Everyone from hostess to busboy was very well educated. The ingredients were amazingly fresh, and the attention that went into their preparation, from the humble to the exotic, seemed clear, starting with the nettle soup; I'll look for the recipe in the Lucques cookbook. The rest of the meal maintained the clarity of that high note. When we were done, there was space in front of the fireplace where we could continue conversations and sample their whisky. Quite the memorable evening. I didn't attend the canonical Sunday Supper, so we'll definitely be going back. Pros: Brilliant food, Educated staff Cons: not a quick in & out more

Not that Great... 2/2/2006

I had dinner there last night and I was not impressed. I had heard a lot from my friends so I wanted to check it out but I was not happy with the food nor the service. I don't think I'll be back! We spent 2.5 hours in total and everything seemed to take so long. I won't return. Pros: ambiance Cons: service, food more

Service is Excellent 1/25/2006

There is nothing that makes me happier than a waiter who doens't make me feel like I am so lucky to eat as his restaurant that he/she can just treat me like some sort of peasant. The service at Lucques is wonderful, and the food is great as well. Sunday Supper is highly recommended. The host is great too. Pros: Service, Price more

Wonderful experience. 1/8/2006

We ate Lucques Sunday Night Supper last night. It was absolutely lovely. Exactly what we expected. Very cozy. Outstanding food, good wines. The wait staff is attentive and European and NOT ""Hi-my-name-is-John-and-I'll-be-your-server!"" The appetizer was rich and buttery, perfect to start the meal. The lamb was over the top delicious. So was dessert. Somewhat pricey as anticipated and worth it! more

Excellent 11/28/2005

You just can't go wrong at Lucques. Everything is top-notch. Loved it five years ago and even better now. more

Heavenly Sunday Supper 10/17/2005

As recent Midwest tranplants we are on a quest to visit every good restaurant in LA. Sunday we took advantage of the 3 course prix fixe menu at Lucques. We were impressed on all counts - food, service, ambience. We started with a glaas of Aracdia Chardonnay and munched on the almonds, Tuscan olives and fresh bread. The mixed bitter green salad with pomegranites, toasted walnuts and warm goat cheese was topped with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Excellent! The entre choices were a grilled pomfret w/ squash risotto and veal scallopini w/ corn polenta. The veal was light, crispy and moist and I enjoyed every bite. The corn polenta provided a tasty complement. Dessert was a simple apple bread pudding made special with a tiny carafe of cream on the side. It's amazing what can be done with fresh ingredients and a little creativity! more

A Nice Evining 8/29/2005

This place is great for a quiet evening out. Great food and awesome wine list. Pros: wine list, food, service more

We left minutes after sitting down. 8/29/2005

I took my husband here for a nice dinner. I was hesitant to go because when I made the reservation the woman was extremly rude - but we figured we'd give it a try. When we got there we were given a table towards the back - where they squeeze 4 tables together when there should only be 3. We were all on top of each other. The attitudes of the wait staff were beyond words. The menu would have been good only if you're a die hard meat eatter. Even my husband who loves meat couldn't find anything to eat on it. The simpiliest chicken was cooked with sheeps milk! A little to fancy shmancy for me. The place was trying to hard, the dishes looked horrible and at $40 a plate we decided we'd rather go somewhere else. We got up and left. It was horrible. Cons: rude staff, horrilbe menu, tables crowded more

the greasiest spoon west of mel's drive-in 8/13/2005

had heard great things about lucque's, but beyond the ambience i was not that impressed. we tried everything our server reccommended-- the summer squash soup and barnade toast to start and the shortribs and the salmon as our main course. The summer squash soup was merely adequate, and the barnade toast tasted like a poor man's open-faced day old tuna fish sandwich. The salmon was drenched with a sort of sour cream like substance-- the resulting concoction was a soggy waste of what otherwise looked like a fine cut of salmon. The shortribs may prove to have a cathartic effect on the soul, but bring your pacemaker with you-- these may be a tough test for those already clogged arteries of yours. The only highlight was the desert-- a delicious sundae-like refreshment served with burnt chocolate wafers. Pros: fireplace dining, waitstaff Cons: greasy food, expensive more
