Best

What can I say, Lucques continues to amaze. The location is nice, the ambience is relaxed and the food is just perfect. I ordered a fish dish which was so flavorful, probably th...

Worst

Five of us met at Lucques Saturday night for late cocktails and maybe an appetizer-- the kind of thing LA restaurants and night spots thrive on. We were ignored for nearly 10 minu...

Fantastic! 8/2/2005

Probably the BEST food in Los Angeles. I've eaten at Lucques many times and the meals are always great. The wine list is diverse and i've loved each wine i've selected. It's also a great place just to go to have dessert and coffee and sit by the fire. Cons: Amazing Food, Wine List more

Decent food, horrible service! 7/12/2005

Skip the squash appetizer - ours was a bland, greasy mess. The club steak, however, was wonderful! Even though the steak was excellent, the overall experience was disappointing. The waiter and bartender were completely incompetent. Our drinks were made incorrectly, and the bartender refused to re-make them. We never saw our waiter (dinner for two lasted three hours). Finally, we were not asked if we wanted dessert. Instead, the waiter threw the dessert menus at us and walked away without saying a word. We ordered the beignets, which were decent (at best). In short, there are plenty of places to get a good steak in LA. Neither my date nor I will be back to this restaurant, given the deplorable service and mediocre appetizers. Cons: Wait staff, Bartender more

Go for the lamb! 6/30/2005

Had the lamb daube here and it was absolutely exceptional. The wine list isn't too bad, either, although I did splurge and went for a selection that was $20/glass! Flavors and texture of food was amazing, and do go for a nice, crisp salad as a starter. My only complaint was that the service was rather slow. Our waiter took about 45 minutes to get our food out! Had reservations at 7:30 and food finally arrived at the table at 8:30. Dessert was also very good, the runners were very attentive and continued pouring water into our empty glasses --I wish the tip went to him instead of our flaky waiter! Pros: Wondrous food, ambience Cons: slow service more

Superlative Sunday Supper 5/22/2004

The Sunday Supper at Lucques - a $35 prix fixe dinner - is easily the best dining deal in Los Angeles. The ingredients are all fresher than fresh; seasonality is the star here. The restaurant is a beautiful, cozy space, lively but quiet enough for intimate conversation. Service is attentive but discreet. This is an especially great place for group dining. Lucques is a gem, and Sundays are when it really shines. Pros: Sunday Supper, cozy, service more

Good but too ecclectic w/ingredients 12/30/2003

Wonderful atmosphere, great service, excellent wine list, terrific bar area, okay meal choice, iffy combination of ingredients on most of limited menu items... Doesn't compare to a place like Sona... around the corner and down the block... wasn't bowled over... like some of my friends Pros: ambience, service, bar Cons: limited menu, price more

Always Amazing 12/26/2003

In many trips, I have yet to take a single bite of food at Lucques that was less than stellar. Pros: sharp service, great bar Cons: pricey more

Go for Sunday evening 6/17/2003

Go for Sunday evening. They have a limited, two entry choice along with first course and dessert, and the prices are WAY below what you'll pay during the week. If you're lucky you'll hit a gem of a meal and a reasonable tab. Done this four times, never disappointed. Pros: Can be very inventive Cons: Can be a little usual more

All show but no substance 6/3/2003

The atmoshere here is great but it doesnt make up for the poorly prepared food. The food was bland and there was not anything particularly special about it. I went with several people and it seemed as if they were all disapointed in their meal. more

The Emperor is in a G-String and Pasties 5/16/2003

The Lucques ladies seem to have a knack for wowing the critics, but leaving me decidedly underwhelmed. It's one of those places where the food is detailed on the menu in an absurdly overwrought and precious fashion, and ends up being simply not that great. Nor, in my opinion, particularly creative. Granted, I often find myself the odd-person out in my ambivalent at best view, hence the title, but there it is. PS - And I find the patio is oppressive in its starkness. Pros: clean, sexy dark interior Cons: overrated more

lukewarm food 3/5/2003

Great food preparation. Great ideas and flavors. Excellent service. But all these efforts become worthless if you don't serve the food at the proper temperature. That's what happened to me with my risotto, barely lukewarm. Pros: food, decor, service Cons: inconsistant, cold food more

overrated oasis 2/12/2003

Wonderful, sophisticated and warm atmosphere. The service was also good. The food, however, is overrated. For the price range (not the most expensive but still pricey - easily 170+ for 2), the menu selection was limited and mundane, and the meal itself quite standard. It did not offer the high food quality of similar restaurants in its Zagat category. For the fact that it's a great place to hang out and the food is good (but not great), I would return, however. more

Great Stuff 11/28/2002

So the food looks good and tastes even better. But we have a name for this food CALIFORNIA CUISINE. Take your regular meals and add a French presentation and you have Lucques. @ 7.50 more

WOW! 10/22/2002

Fantastic experience! Food, wine and waitstaff were spot on. Cozy, clean and perfect for lingering. The best prep of salmon I've ever had (w/bacon over cabbage-sounds weird but worked.) They accomodated our party of 4 at the last min. on a Fri. night and gave no attitude about it. Pros: great food, great waitstaff, great wine list more

Warm Suckling Pig Salad? 8/15/2002

To me, suckling pig salad did not sound that appetizing but the waitress recommended it and I could not have made a better selelection. It tasted like the most tender, perfectly cooked carnitas and when mixed with fresh, sweet peach slices, mixed greens, candied pepitas and a wonderful cumin dressing it made for one of the tastiest salads I've ever had. Chilled yellow tomato soup was pureed to the finest texture. Grilled black bass with farro, sumac and tomato-preserved lemon salsa was good but the wild salmon with bacon, sweet corn and green cabbage was incredible. I look forward to returning soon for a ""Sunday Supper"". Pros: Great food, Cool space, Wonderful salmon more
