Editorial review from Citysearch 11/6/2012

I tried the chicken teriyaki and fried rice. Neither were good. The all dark meat chicken was overly salty and very greasy. The fried rice had a weird sweet taste and was also greasy. I also tried the tempura shrimp and veggies, those were pretty good, also on the greasy side, but they are, after all, fried. more

Coupons 2/19/2012

On Sunday,02/19/12, while on vacation in Nashville,TN we heard a radio promotion for Kabuto's to PURCHASE 1/2 off dinner coupons for $10.00 a piece. We BOUGHT 4 of them and went to enjoy a nice lunch with friends. We had 2 separate checks and was told we were only allowed to use one coupon per table. We were very disappointed and asked to speak to the Manager. ""ALI"" came to the table and absolutely refused to help us resolve the situation. We were also charged for a salmon roll we did NOT order but respectfully paid for that as well. We understand that you can not use multiple coupons in one check but one per check seems reasonable. We were very frustrated and please know that it was bad enough we paid $40.00 for coupons that your company would not let us use but we also spent over $100.00 on the 2 tabs combined. We will NOT be returning to your establishment and we will make sure every friend, family member, Ex-coworker, etc will be aware of your lack of Customer Service and poor treatment. Manager ""Ali"" claimed he would be fired if he took a coupon from 2 separate checks since we sat at the same table? I find this hard to believe and clearly he needs to be properly trained on his ""lack of management skills"" or I am certain if you give him enough time, he will run the rest of your customers off. more

Best Japanese 4/23/2010

The chefs cook your meal to your liking in front of you. Kabuto has not only beautiful food, but is also very entertaining. There are tables of 8 people, with the chef standing in the middle. They do plenty of tricks. It really is a good night out. It has become my family tradition to have birthday dinners here. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Great cook & nice server, coupons on their website more

Worst Japanese Steak House Meal We've Ever Had 4/2/2010

We ate at Kabuto for the second time in six months on March 28, 2010. The first visit was pretty good, but not great, so we decided to give them another chance. We realized that we had the same cook as the first time who was very noisy with lots of banging of the spatula, and loud talking, but not actually very skillful. He left the grill three different times to go check on the order and get more food. We remembered that he had left the grill to correct the orders the last time we ate there. The fried rice was very sub-par for Japanese fried rice. Even our teenage son said it wasn't good. The Mahi-Mahi was the smallest piece I've ever had anywhere, and the filet mignon had a really off taste to it, like liver or something. We did not eat it all, and worried about its possible later effects on our digestive systems. The bathroom was also not clean and had a bad odor to it. It was unquestionably the worst Japanese Hibachi Grill meal we've ever had, and we've had many. Pros: We found no ""pros"" on our second visit. Cons: Service was awful, food was worse, bathroom nasty more

Great Service 9/16/2009

I come to Kabuto when I pass thru Nashville. I have been there 9 or 10 times and everytime the experience has been awesome. Food is great, service is spectacular and the price is affordable. Thank You more

You threatened to call the Police on our anniversary. 9/11/2009

My wife, children, and sister-in-law ate at the Kabuto Japanese Steak House on September 11th 2009 at approximately between 6:50pm-07:35pm. I am serving my third combat tour in Iraq and have not seen my wife in almost a year now. Today on September 11th, it is our third wedding anniversary. My wife paid for her sister and while ordering asked the waitress to find how much a piece of lobster would cost in small portion. The waitress could not find on the menu where lobster was priced and so it was ordered along with food for all seated. At the end of the meal my wife was informed that a small piece of lobster had a cost of 14 dollars and when she asked why she was paying full price for a portion of a full meal that she did not receive. This is when the manager stated that he would call the Police on my wife if she did not pay full price for this piece of lobster. My wife then pays 80 dollars for her, her sister, one five year old and two 2 year olds. So I want to thank you for your professionalism and compassion in making my wife who is alone and especially sad today feel little and made to cry on our wedding anniversary while I am thousands of miles away. I will never take my family to your restaurant again. Pros: I know to never eat at the Kabuto's in Goodlettsville, TN. Cons: Your wife will be in tears across the ocean as I am in Iraq. more

Kaputo is the best.. 8/2/2008

I like Kabuto. the food is great. The chef's are nice. I would advise anyone who goes to ask for Wickson to be your chef. I go to Kabuto with my mom and we LOVE WICKSON. and his the best chef at kaputo... more

Kabutos is amazing! 6/21/2008

Ok. I dont see how anyone could NOT like Kabuto. the food is great. The chef's are hilarious. I would advise anyone who goes to ask for Frank to be your chef. I go to Kabuto at least 4 times week with my boyfriend and we LOVE Frank. His food is the best and he knows how to make you laugh. We are very picky about how our food is cooked and what we order. He knows how we like everything and the waiters have our drinks ready without even having to ask. The service is very nice. If you are looking for something fun to do and you have an appetite, I would suggest Kabuto! The chef's do alot of little tricks, from throwing shrimp in your mouth, to making your rice look like a heart and making it beat, to making a volcano out of onions and having it explode. Kids would LOVE Kabuto. The chefs always make them smile. Or at least ive never seen anyone complain when I go there!! The only problem I have had was a hostest. But other than that Kabutos is amazing for the price you pay to eat it and the show you get. Pros: Great atmosphere. Great food. Great chef. Ask for Frank. He is the BEST!!! or Wickson. Cons: I dont like one of the hostest girls, but hey. I get over it. also, the head chef Kenny is really rude! more

poor review 2/21/2008

As a frequent patron, I was completely disappointed at our last visit. When we signed in we were told there would be a 1 hour wait. After 1 hour had passed, we asked who musch longer. they replied about 10 more minutes. after 15 minutes we inquire again and was told only one table in front of us. after another ten minutes we were told there's 4 tables ahead of you. Spoke to manager with no results. After 1hour 45 minutes wait we left. I emailed Kabuto 4 days ago and they do not show the coutersy to reply. will never visit again. more

great food.. but watch for the birthday trap!!! 2/8/2008

It is one of our favorites. We've moved 30 minutes away and still drive to eat there. ONE CAUTION- the last time we went there with friends, we were celebrating our sons birthday (born a day apart). The waitress asked us if we were celebrating something when she saw the gifts. We told her their bdays. She then proceeded to say ""Great, Can I bring them a special dessert and sing?"" Of course we let her! Then the bill arrived... and they added $5 or $10 dollars to the bill for the dessert, picture taken of them and a frame! We assumed it was free since she asked to bring it to us! BEWARE- don't fall into the same trap we did! more

My friends and I love the show at Kabutos 1/31/2008

I really enjoyed my meal at Kabutos and found the chef's to be funny and knowledgeable of the menu! What I thought was funny was that they (the chef's) always say they have been there only a week however, I have been there many times and I can tell you the Chef's have been there longer then they say. It's all in getting the table to talk and have fun. I recommend everything ! They are great (the chef's) about cooking your steak the way you want it. Fantastic service, awesome show by the Chef's. I can tell you I have never ever been disappointed at anytime I have been there lunch or dinner. I do appreciate that the Chef's try to get you to have fun and the shrimp appetizer is GREAT if you can catch it. (ha ha) more

cat? dog? 12/30/2007

My husband and I met another couple at Kabuto on the sushi side a few nights ago. This was not my first visit so I was very shocked about how the night/food turned out. I have to explain that I am NOT a sushi or even fish eater but my husband is. I usually just order a house salad and a bowl of rice. This time the friends I was with suggested the chicken rice bowl. They said they had it before and it was really good. Considering one bowl of rice is $6 and the chicken rice bowl was $7.95 I thought I would give it a try. When the waiter put it down in front of me I thought I was going to be sick right then and there. I couldn't even tell what was placed on top of the heaping pile of steamed rice. It sure did NOT look ANYTHING like chicken. Seriously I am willing to bet it was NOT chicken. As I started to pluck the pieces of mystery meat off my dish they were all hung together by tendons. It truly looked like the pieces of meat you cut off before you cook the meal. It was absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in a restaurant. My friend ordered chicken terryaki and once again, there didn't appear to be any ""chicken"" on her plate. We were both so disgusted we vowed to NEVER return there again. Our big joke of the evening was the WATER was excellent. Pros: The water is the only good thing I had. Cons: Mystery meat - not enough fish in my husband's sushi rolls. more

Best Hibachi 9/17/2007

Went there last friday with my family, it was a busy night but only 5 minute wait with reservation, wickson is the best teppan chef we ever had. he knows how to cook and make my family happy. Pros: Great food, fun chef and good service more

Service at Kabuto Sliding FAST! 9/16/2007

My family and I have been regular customers at the Kabuto in Goodlettsville for more than a few years now. We only go there as a 'treat', but spend no less than $125.00 per visit. In the past months we have observed a consistant slide in quality of service. DO NOT allow 'Rodney' the 'latino-japanese hibatchi chef"" to prepare your food!!! Not only did he open by telling us it was his second day as a cook, (which I have come to expect because three of the past five chefs have made the same claim!!) but when I questioned the scattering of egg shell throughout the rice he then asked me to show him where! All the while stirring and stirring it in! I informed him that I was not getting paid to cook and that was his job! He was only disgusted by this and could not have been in a bigger hurry to be done with us! At that point, the show was over, no onion volcano for the kids! more

Best Japanses in Nashville 9/1/2007

Pay no attention to those bad reviews! This is by far the best food, most entertaining, and just great place we eat - averaging twice a month since the restaurant opened. If you are looking for romantic, quiet, or leisurely, this is not it. However, we always leave a geat, well-deserved tip and feeling full and satisfied - usually with a doggie bag. There is a wait on friday and saturday, but during the week it is quick and consistent. Pros: Excellent food preparation; entertaining & fun Cons: loud more

Bad Service, Poor Food Quality, Slow 8/22/2007

My family and friends do not like the quality of Kabuto. The service is very poor and the people are not friendly. The meat seems to be poor quality because if you do not eat it as soon as it comes off the heat it is like rubber. The sushi is less than par by far. I suggest you save your money and go to Fuji on Rivergate Parkway. Cons: not a good value, slow service, not friendly more
