Best

I decided to go to Jack's after reading all those reviews. I went there today with 3 high-end suits (oxxford) that needed to be tailored (my brother gave them to me). Jack spent 3...

An exceptional tailor! 10/2/2006

No tailor can give you happiness, but Jack can send you out to look for it brilliantly dressed. He is a genuine master of his craft. more

Superb Tailoring All Around 9/29/2006

Jack is the place to go if you have serious alterations. I went from a size 34 waist down to a 29 inch waist and I was afraid I would have to purchase an entire new wardrobe. Not the case with Jack. He was able to reconstruct my pants and keep the original integrity of the shape the designer intended. If you have haute couture items that need to be altered I would trust them with Jack. Pros: Great work and great customer service. Cons: Not the cheapest but worth it if have designer clothing. You want someone seasoned taking care of your items. more

Great Tailor! 9/28/2006

I've used quite a few tailors in the Cambridge area over the years, mostly for simple hemming and minor alterations. I really liked the way some pants I purchased at Drinkwater's were hemmed (properly double-stitched, breaks ""just right""), and found out that Jack does their alterations. So when I recently dropped my waist size from 36 to 31, there was no question who was going to alter all of my pants. Jack does a phenomenal job and I highly recommend him to my friends and family. Pros: Does the job right, everytime. Cons: Not the cheapest, but why would you try to save $10 to alter a $400 pair of trousers? more

By far the best tailor I've seen. Use this guy!! 9/27/2006

I wish I had found Jack 10 years ago!! Jack is meticulous and professional, on top of being an all-around great guy. I think he realizes that his best business card is the quality of his work, and it shows in his attention to detail. I've taken 6 (expensive) suits to him, and all came out better than I could have expected. \r \r I wish he had time to make some bespoke suits on the side!! Pros: Parking, service, attention to detail Cons: Doesn't take credit card more

Professional and Quick 9/23/2006

Jack is an amazingly talented taylor that got my job done even though he was in a crunch. He is someone that I will definetly be going back to in the future. more

Great customer service 9/22/2006

Back in 1996 I needed a vintage leather jacket to be cleaned. I took the jacket to a random dry cleaner somewhere in Cambridge, but I sensed that the random dry cleaner was dishonest and wanted to steal my jacket from me. The jacket was not worth much money, but was of sentimental value to me. At that moment I remembered that a friend of mine who had moved away took her tailoring and dry cleaning to Jack the Tailor on Massachusetts Avenue. I took the jacket to Jack, who of course had it nicely cleaned for a reasonable price. I have been going to him for my tailoring and dry cleaning needs ever since. He is really a reliable, talented, reasonably priced, and trustworthy tailor! Pros: Parking, great location, close to T more

Fabulous Tailor! 9/17/2006

Unless you're perfect, you need tailoring! Jack is the man to see. I have been taking him all sorts of garments, department-store sportcoats, consignment specials, used tuxedos and many pairs of pants for the last ten years. The final product always makes me look my very best. Jack will discuss his recommendations and fit you with the utmost courtesy. He is always up-front about his reasonable prices. It is a pleasure to do business with a tailor whose craft borders on artistry! Pros: Excellent Craftsmanship, Prompt, Courteous Service more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! JACK RUINED MY DENIMS AND GAVE ME ATTITUDE ABOUT IT TOO!!! Go to Newbury Tailor Co. located on Newbury St. instead. 9/14/2006

Based on the postive reviews on citysearch, I decided to give Jack a try on hemming my $200+ denims and get the original hems reattached. At first he was nice and explained everything in details on what he was planning to do. When I picked up my denims a few days later, one of the denim that he attached the original hem was flaring out. It looked ridiculous. I asked him about it and he just made some dumb excuses on why the denim was flaring. Since I am a very easy person and thought he was truth to his words; I paid him. When I arrived home and measure the inseam of the denims, I found out that he cut it an inch too short. I called him and asked him about it very politely. To my surprise, he gave me an attitude about it and blamed it on me for confusing him about the inseam. Jack, if I confused you then why did u do one of the inseam the correct measurement and the other one an inch shorter. He ruined my denims and I did not even get an apology for it. He also said that I just want the service for free that is why I am making things up. If I am then I wouldn't pay you in the first place. Then he started blabbing that he is a professional and he never done any mistake and that he got positive reviews on citysearch. Jack, I think you are getting a big head from this all!!! I will never go back to him again! Luckily, I found a new place that do an excellent service on my denims - Newbury Tailor Co. Newbury Tailor Co. fixed the flare that Jack did and reattached all the hems perfectly. Cons: Rude person and horrible service!!! more

Jack is the best! 9/14/2006

Jack is an excellent tailor. He remembers you after a single visit, and is very flexible with when you need your clothes back. He takes great pride in his work and I find that refreshing. He has knowledge of current styles and additionally is aware of what lengths/cuts will looks good with certain body types. He is also very fast, you try on your clothes for him and he makes a single mark or pin and he is done...and they come out perfect! I took him 5 pairs of pants and I was out of there in 15 minutes (the slow part being how fast I could change clothes!). A professional. I will go back. By the way, take cash or your check book, he doesn't accept credit cards. Pros: your clothes come out perfect Cons: can't pay with credit card more

Best tailor I have ever had, for big and small jobs 9/13/2006

Fantastic! Incredible work that I have to say exceeds anything I've ever enjoyed from an in-store tailor at one of the high-end suit stores like Barney's. I have entrusted a complete suit re-tailoring and he did wonderfully yet at a reasonable price. Pros: Quality and price Cons: not open on sunday more

You'd have to go overseas AND travel back in time to find a better tailor 9/6/2006

After Jack get's done with my clothes I suspect he has increased their value. He has done for me everything from jean hems (keeping the orignal cuff on) to dresses for weddings and winter coats. I know how to sew fairly well, but I could not even approach the kind of the stuff that he does flawlessly. (Perhaps I can intern for him?)\r \r I get great pleasure out of the rare occaision when a friend asks in a panic if I might possibly know anyone who could do a complicated alteration on an outfit for an important event in a hurry. They are flustered and defeated, and I am very satisfied to be able to say ""Why yes, yes of course I do! You must go see MY tailor, Jack. He will take good care of you."" And for posterity I say ""Tell him I sent you."" After all he does actually remember all of his customer's names. It's also a bonus that he's right in the center of Porter Square. \r Pros: speedy, consistent, fine quality more

Jack's Tailoring & Cleaning 8/21/2006

My opinion of Jack's Tailoring can be summarized 2 words: TOP NOTCH!!!\r Jack is a talented professional who does a superior job every time. His kind demeanor and genuine desire to accommodate his customers is very refreshing. I travel from Jamaica Plain to seek Jack's services and would never consider going anywhere else. Jack's Tailoring is a 10+!!! more

Fantasic customer service 8/20/2006

I can't recommend Jack's Tailoring enough! Jack himself is very kind and welcoming and he always does an excellent job. I have been happy ever single time I have gone to Jack and even though I am moving out of Porter Square I am still going to bring my things to Jack when I need to have something altered. He is honest and fair and I would recommend his store to everyone. more

Like Magic! 8/13/2006

I'm not a tall person, and I had come to accept that the bottoms of my pants would always need to be hemmed in a depressingly little-girl kind of way. BUT, a few weeks ago, I got some jeans with really interesting bottom hems and I did not want to give them up. After reading good reviews, I brought them in to Jack's and he did a fantastic job of shortening them, but keeping the original hems. I'm impressed, because I had always been told that this is a difficult sewing job and others asked a lot more money for it, which is why I had never tried it before. AND he prepared it in only 24 hours, because I was going on vacation. Bravo! He'll be seeing a lot more of my pants in the future! Pros: Great customer service, great results Cons: Location on Mass Ave in Porter is convenient, but parking can be difficult in that area. more

Great for Complex Alterations (suits, etc.) 8/7/2006

Jack re-cut several of my suits after I lost weight. The suits look professional and fit perfectly. He can definitely be trusted with complex alterations that come close to creating a new garment. I am moving accross town and will always drive back to have all of my alterations done by Jack. Pros: great quality more

Reliable work from a man who cares 8/7/2006

Jack is one of those rare people who is dedicated to his craft. I'm a small guy so it is difficult to find ready-to-wear clothes that fit well. With shirts there aren't many options for sleeve length, and I often have trouble with too much length on the arms. I recently brought Jack a hugo boss dress shirt with french cuffs and we agreed that the sleeves needed to be shortened by about 3 inches. With this much material being removed, simply moving the cuff back (as most other tailors would do) would lead to an oddly proportioned sleeve - almost as awkward as having the longer sleeves. He did a beautiful job rescaling the length of the arm - not simply moving the cuff back. You can be confident that Jack will preserve the look of your clothes while giving you a flattering fit. Pros: meticulous, speedy work. great location. Cons: not open late more

Outstanding craftsmanship, a really friendly place to visit- Jack is the best I've found anywhere ! 7/17/2006

Extremely fast and good service 7/4/2006

I brought in a suit over the July 4 weekend to get it tailored when none of the other places were even open that weekend. Jack did a great job with the alterations and I had the finished suit in my hands by lunchtime July 5. Great service, and he did a great job on the suit. more

Great Customer Service 6/25/2006

Jack has a great skill and provides beautiful quality to any tailoring need. Very professional and helpful. I had my dress adjusted twice- and Jack was perfectly willing to accomodate my pickiness! Highly recommended. Pros: Very Fast! more

Jack treats you right 5/20/2006

Jack offers old-world customer service; he's helpful and reassuring without being the least overbearing. He's quick but not hasty -- his speed is a product of his obvious competence. Having had him tailor a tuxedo for me (including alterations to the jacket), I recommend him unreservedly, for his touch both with clothes and with people. Pros: precise, quick, friendly more
