Certainly not the best money I've spent. Could think of better places to go.

Nice Restaurant 2/25/2012

Our server was great and very accommodating especially with added members at the last minute. The food itself was great and had large portions. We just had a few issues with our food (1 was wrong order) but they corrected it shortly after. more

Really? 1/6/2012

OK, so I've heard that this is the best steakhouse in Minneapolis. Really? The steak was so undercooked I swear I heard mooing on my plate. The quality was sub par. Really? The hash browns were flat, tasteless and over cooked. Really? If you want fabulous hashbrowns go to Gianni's. Waiter was professional but seemed bored. Portion size was so over the top that it was an assult on every sense. I don't mind paying for a meal that is commenserate with what I've been served, but the prices were ridiculous. Really???? So many other restaurant options that are reasonable with supurb quality. more

I Might Not be Back 7/14/2010

My first impression of Manny's was forgettable. What a lot of window dressing. For all the hipe I was bored and I noticed that we were the only group in the place for lunch? The huge portions border on just plain stupid. My entre or dessert could have fed a third world country. The waiter acted like that was a wonderful thing (when he was around). It was stressful and ridiculous passing everything all over the table and it drove up the prices. As far as quality...my surf and turf was blah. The lobster was tough and my burger was cooked beyond edible. I had to chew it to death!! The buns were dry, old and over toasted. The potato salad was hohum. Come on people wake up!!! You've been had!! Pros: Ambiance Cons: Quality and Quanity more

Best Ever!!! 5/8/2010

Very expensive. But worth every penny! Huge portions! Great Food! Great service! Best to go in groups as their sides are really big! Also, set aside a couple of hours to really enjoy the experience including the meat presentation where you choose your cut of protien. I absolutely love this joint!!! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere. Cons: Price more

Hey- If You Want to be Ignored- Go to Manny's 12/21/2009

I had chosen Manny’s for a company party. We had a group of 6 and I specifically wanted the booth in picture number 17 on their website which would be conducive to conversation, but also close to the bar so we could be in a lively part of the establishment. When I made the reservation I just had a feeling the rather curt hostess on the phone did not mark down that I wanted “the circle booth at the end of the bar in picture 17 on the website”. By the way, I had looked for a high quality restaurant with a circle booth which is why I had chosen Manny’s in the first place.\r \r I called two days later and my suspicion was correct, there was no note of my request and this hostess agrees to note it. I still had a bad feeling about it so I called a third time. (Also, unknown to me until after the party, my husband had also called.) I show up to Manny’s with our party and the hostess had no note of my requesting this booth. I calmly explained the situation and my dismay over this total lack of communication to which she replied that they don’t reserve exact tables in the bar area! Why would that not have been made known to us in our FOUR phone calls?! Because I would have opted for a restaurant that accommodates special requests of people willing to pay $400 and up for dinner!\r \r The hostess did not listen to which table I was talking about- then moves people from the table our waiter Tony called the Hot Tub and put us in this gigantic corner booth where we were farther apart from one another than if we were at a table and chairs in the other part of the restaurant. Totally annoyed and hungry, embarrassed to move a table of people from the table we weren’t even wanting anyway we just relented. I do have to say the hostess was kind and rational in her behavior despite not hearing me in my request. Having experience in the restaurant industry and having written reviews I also mentioned I expected something comped for this as this is ridiculous and they ended up coming a desert!? Are you kidding?\r \r Tony our waiter was a fabulous veteran in the industry you can tell. He knew how to calm down a frustrated group and I give Manny’s that prop for sure. We did find it highly inappropriate and offensive for him to comment on one person in our party’s alcohol consumption IN A BAR part of their restaurant when they were in no way behaving inappropriately- are you kidding? But basically I am appalled at the entire experience as this was a major celebration for my husband’s company, his partners and their wives. We expected more from a “Minneapolis Institution” and our requests were by no means irrational nor was our response and our frustration. I have tried to contact a manager there via a contact us link on their website, but after searching have found none. So I write this review to tell you that if you want a special event and a special place to celebrate, you just can’t bank on their listening to you or being concerned about your needs. Never again will I pay $50+ for a meal only to be treated so poorly. Manny’s- you must consider your hostesses as I see now why so many reviews on the net complain about them.\r Pros: Pretty good food- not mind blowing Cons: Hostesses, Lack of Communication more

employee madness 11/11/2009

I was coming to dine and waiting at the bar for my group to show. I noticed the most pretentious hostess. I knew when she huffed, after she asked for my coat and I told her I would keep it that Manny's was just in need of help. I have nothing against asian culture but this women turned me off the restaurant. Pros: yummy steaks Cons: negative energy more

Not worth the price 3/26/2009

I felt that the wait staff was really friendly and quick, however I would have preferred that they not touch my food with their bare hands.\r \r I was there with three other people and we all had steak, it was cooked exactly how we asked however, the meat had no flavor what-so-ever. The asparagus were all the size of a small tree branch which translates to really tough, woody asparagus. The mushrooms were big and chewy as well. The only thing at the table that had any flavor was the mashed potatoes - they were good. I would have to say that if you are looking for caveman like portions and chewy veggies, this is your place, if you would like a managable size portion and some flavor try someplace else. Pros: Friendly Staff Cons: flavorless more

Good Old Fashion Time 1/2/2009

What a great time! Distinguished decor, remarkable food with enormous portions, extensive wine list, friendly, intelligent staff, attractive, well to do guest. This is what I call a perfect place for dinner or just drinks and appetizers. Great people watching as well. Manny's may have a new location but I would follow where ever they went!! Pros: Everything is well done Cons: Waiting for a table more

A very enjoyable evening 8/30/2008

I went to Manny's with several co-workers. We had a great time. It is expensive, but the portions are huge. I think I must of spent two hours eating my 20-oz New York Strip. However, every bite was great. The waiter mentioned that they have a new stove the cooks hotter and can caramelize the meat better, it definitely made a positive difference. Pros: Great Steak Cons: Not for those without $$$ (or an expense account) more

Overrated 7/14/2008

A lot of bravado without super high quality to back it up. Prices are ridiculously high. Ambiance is lacking in the bright, cafeteria-style dining room. more

Best Steak in the Twin Cities, No Contest! 4/12/2008

My wife and I revisited Manny's for the 1st time in a while recently, and it made me wonder what kept me away so long. From the start of our visit, the service was spectacular! We enjoyed a couple very well prepared and visually appealing cocktails before ordering our dinners. When they arrived, I once again remembered what a steak is SUPPOSED to taste like. So many restaurants now use such poor cuts of meat and prepare them so badly, that you tend to think that's the way it's supposed to be. At Manny's, the New York Strip I had was outsdanding! It was very flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The side of mushrooms added to it were the perfect touch. My wife ordered crab legs, and received 2-pounds of the best crab she's ever tasted. We also had sides of hash browns, and asparagus to accompany our meal. Although it was a bit expensive, I would do it again in a second. I would recommend ordering meals that can be shared, as we did. The portions are EXTREMELY generous, and too much for any one person to eat. My only wish would be that they offer more wines by the glass. Their list is extensive, but if you don't want an entire bottle, your limited as to what you can enjoy. However, this is just a small setback in what was otherwise a perfect night out. We will return soon. Pros: Very good food and outstanding service Cons: Portions extremely large, and meant to be shared. Better with groups. more

Good food, excessive portions 2/12/2008

We went to Manny's because we've heard so many rave reviews about it over the years and temptation finally got us. As others have mentioned, the ambiance was loud and tables were in close quarters to one another. The food was very good and the steaks were cooked exactly how we asked, so in that respect we were very pleased. However, we didn't feel their food was any better than other steakhouses we have tried and that the high price was due to the excessive portion sizes rather than quality above and beyond what you can get anywhere else. For example, my ribeye was 20 oz and $44.95 and our $9.95 key lime pie was 1/4 of a whole pie, I believe. We would've been perfectly happy with 1/2 the portions and paying 1/2 the price. We enjoyed our meal and appreciate an expensive meal that offers something unique to the dining experience, we just didn't feel like we found that here. We're glad to tried Manny's, but given the cost, we'll probably eat our steak elsewhere. Pros: steaks good how you ask for them, good food Cons: oversized portions drive prices way up. more

Exceptional Food 12/17/2007

This 58 year old male's first visit to Manny's and it won't be my last. Had the best filet I've ever eaten. Rest of group had similar experience with the food. All of the food - the asparagus, the loaded mashed potatoes, the brownee/strawberry/ice cream/wiped cream dessert as well as the entree was extremely well prepared, flavorful and enormous in size. The potatoes and dessert can feed 6 (not 2 as advertised). The service was outstanding. My only complaint would be it was quite noisy. The layout of the restaurant and the hard surfaces create a loud atmosphere making conversation a little bit difficult. All in all, though, an exceptional dining experience. more

the dream lives 7/28/2007

Manny's is a perfect restaurant it delivers amazing food every single time. It makes you happy to be an American male in some sort of way. Red meat, great red wine and service, guys like that along with dark wood, plenty of cool photos and the occasional courageous hot visiting woman. The cesear salad delicious, the house chips perfect, and everything is overblown yet tasteful cus it delivers the flavor of excess. Manny's is the best of what America wants to be. It is the only restaurant in Minneapolis that is world class. The bar and wait staff are fabulous and I'm goin there tonight to put my teeth into a perfect bone in rib eye. Pros: woman get treated like women used to more

not sure how they'd overcook your food here 3/19/2007

You're in a high dollar steakhouse. Carnivores eat here. The waitstaff is sassy (they should be!), and they know why they're employed. They're diverse, exceptionally talented, and accurate representatives of the Manny's vibe. Dry humor? Perhaps. Forward and perhaps tastefully offensive? Periodically! Rude? Absolutely not. If you want to be pampered, go somewhere else, and you won't be missed. When I want to devour a steak, Manny's delivers no disappointment.\r \r Don't forget, you're still in a high dollar steakhouse. A rapport is built and when you pick your steak your server will tell you exactly what your level of doneness means before you order. How this disconnects for those reviewers saying ""they overcook the food"" from this point is confusing due to the effort spent maintaining a level of understanding before you make your choice. I am suspicious that ignorance wrecks one's meal more often than bad service in these cases. Beyond that, if I ever EVER received a steak that was overcooked from Manny's, I'd simply send it back, and so should you. It is not disrespecful or an embarassment to one's self to address mistakes when they're made. With admitted zeal I will say that I'm not convinced that this is something that actually happens that often.\r \r Also, if you think pure and simple recipes with quality ingredients are bland, don't come here, we don't want you. Feel free to pick up a spicy ranch pesto chipotle flavor-of-the-year steak at Outback or Timber Lodge or whatever instead. Salt and pepper for me, thank you. Pros: steak, steak, steak Cons: location more

Not worth it 2/1/2007

First, the ambiance. I'd describe it as a sort of white linen cafeteria. The bar is cozy and dark (and small) but the dining room is lit up with more fluorescent lights than my office. The walls are sparsely decorated with framed comic panels (??!) and I spied more than a few cheesy fake floral arrangements that would be well at home in great-aunt Edna's basement den. They seated our party of five right next to the entrance, which was also right next to the station where they keep the carts with the selections of the day. The whole time the staff was rolling the cart in and out directly behind me. I think the live lobster was staring me down and trying to get me to put it out of its misery with my butter knife.\r \r The prices were about where I'd expect them to be at a high-end steakhouse. The portions are generous, of course, but I suspect you're paying for quantity over quality. I had the New York Strip and the rest of my table had the 14 oz filet mignon. We also got a side of the biggest asparagus I've ever seen, which came with hollandaise, and mashed potatoes built into a volcano-like situation with sour cream, bacon, cheese, and chives.\r \r I asked for my steak medium-rare. It arrived medium on one half and medium-well on the other. The outside was absolutely crusted with salt and maybe a tiny bit of fine ground (read: cheap) pepper. The salt was distracting and the overcooked meat was bland. When I get a good New York Strip I expect it to be tougher than a filet, but the amount of knife sawing I had to do was ridiculous. It wasn't juicy at all and it tasted like a cheap supermarket steak. That is to say, it hardly tasted at all.\r \r For dessert we got key lime pie (a huge portion), cheesecake (also huge), and strawberries that shouldn't have cost as much as they did because they were just plain ol' boring supermarket strawberries in a fancy glass. The strawberries came with a plate of a glop of sad, waxy-looking, half melted whipped cream. Pros: Large portions Cons: Zero ambiance, quality of food wasn't worth the expense more

Known for the best steak, but also has great dessert! 11/5/2006

When I arrived, the restaurant had already stopped serving dinner, but kindly offered to let us have a table for dessert. The employees were extremely friendly and genuine. We had the pumpkin pie and it was delish! It was also HUGE! Practically half the pie! (well worth the $12) The other dessert selections looked tempting as well- everything from key lime pie to a traditional (and huge) sunday. The atmosphere of Manny's is upscale, but not uptight. I plan on going back to eat an actual meal! Pros: friendly service more

Awesome Steak Great Wine List 8/27/2006

What a great place. One of, if not the finest bone in Rib-eye I've ever eaten. Pleasant atmosphere, and good service. Highly reccomended, if you're in the twin cities you must eat at Manny's.of more
