I had high expectations when sitting down at the nicely appointed Flying Fish. The food was exciting to look at but bland tasting. The drinks and oysters on the half shell were ...

Unsatisfactory everything. READ THIS 11/24/2005

Seated promptly for lunch on my birthday. No introduction from our classless waitress. First water had flakes in it, second glass had lipstick. Ordering was uneventful. Apps came, (calamari and smoked salmon) both were tasty. Oysters came with no presentation, and were "unsatisfactory" (details omitted due to cityseach posting policy). Neither apology or compensation offered. Terrible service, oblivious staff, positively awful experience. Entrees (Mahi Mahi and Stir Fry) were very unsatisfactory. Will not return. Ever. Pros: None for me. Cons: Service, Food, Worms more

Bad Service + Overpriced = Bad Restaurant 9/29/2005

The service was by far the poorest of restaurants in any price range, from the hostess to the waitress, they were not friendly, never described the menu, and had a bad attitude. After finishing our drinks before ordering, they were not re-filled until half way through the meal, even though the restaurant was fairly empty and many waiters were on duty. The food was okay, but I didnt find the flavors original. The salmon was dry, the crab cake was too salty, and shrimp was bland. The only dish I enjoyed was tuna poke. While other dishes might seem overpriced, I cant believed they charged $2.50 for a small portion of plain steamed rice and re-charge each time I asked for another spoonful. Definitely not recommended. more

Bad Service! 9/26/2005

I and my husband wanted to have a romantic dinner together and chose "Flying Fish". Bad mistake. When we asked for a table (we didn't make reservations) we were rudely told that the only available table was outside (fine with us). After waiting for a ready table for 20 min we were finaly seated. Another 15 min. passed before we even got the menue and still, we were treated like we owed the reastaruant. In the next 40 min. no one came to take our order. It felt like we did not even exist in the place. After 40 min we left hungry and very dissapointed. Perhaps the food is good there, but the service is unbelievably bad. Will never come back. P.S. We ended up having a wonderful time at a nearby sushi place more

Fabulous again 7/4/2005

Been here several times and this time wasn't QUITE up to the same level as previous times. The salad, as mentioned by a previous person, was oily and tasteless. The salad I had a year ago here was much better. The scallops were good, but not overwhelming. Wine servings seemed small. Good but not great like I used to think. ===== WENT BACK A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER (December 2008, to be precise) and wow, it was fab again. YEah. We ate 3 times in 5 days at Flying Fish it was so good (i'm from out of town). Thumbs up! Pros: Fabulous food Cons: small restaurant more

Pretty good, but not amazing. 6/16/2005

Hey, my partner and I went==she had the Mahi Mahi while I had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The Mahi Mahi was kind of bland, but the things that came with it (a mixed vegetable chutney type dish, some kind of greens, potatoes) were very good. Overall I'd give that dish a B. I had the chicken, which was very good. It was crispy on the outside and was moist and delicious on the inside, and both side dishes were good. THe side salad I got was not good, it was very oily and pretty flavorless. Drinks from the bar were excellent, service was attentive but not intrusive. We sat outside, since it was such a nice day, which was fun but also is kind of loud since it is on 1st Avenue. I'm allergic to shellfish so perhaps my review isn't the most accurate but hey, here's my two cents! Pros: decor, drinks, food appearance Cons: price, noise outside more

Great Seafood! 5/31/2005

This was our last dinner on a vacation weekend to Seattle! Was craving Salmon and was not disappointed. Food and service was excellent. My date had the Opah and loved it. My only gripe was the ambience. More diner like atmosphere, tables cramped. We had just walked in and got a table (luckily), but it was right by the door and was crowded and felt like we were on display. More our fault though for not making a reservation. Otherwise, great food and drinks! Pros: Food Cons: Noisy, Cramped more

Sorry, Mom 4/13/2005

Brought Mom in for her birthday for what I thought would be a nice dinner. I thought wrong. Though the service was decent, mistakes and poor preparation made for a disappointing experience, which won't be repeated. Started off poorly right away, with the "beet" salad with crumbled blue cheese being just a greens salad with a few small beet cubes added, and no blue cheese to be found. Then Mom's marlin entree was shoe-leather tough and inedible, while my girlfriend's marlin was prepared OK but a little aged tasting (my barracuda was fine). We told them about the shortcomings & they did make a nice gesture of complimentary Port wine for the trouble. But I wouldn't put myself, friends or family through that experience again. Pros: Service, Location Cons: Food quality, Preparation mistakes more

Not nearly worth the wait or the price. 2/27/2005

Arrived on-time for an 8:45 reservation & treated like cattle when told ""it would be awhile"" & shoved with other waiting patrons into the tiny bar/entry area. Treated very rudely by both bartenders, so we opted to stand in the cold entry - finally seated (starving/frustrated) one hour late!! Asian & comfort food menu has no rhyme or reason and if you don't like spicy foods (according to our waiter) it eliminates all seafood options except two. The costly food was mediocre at best - cold sides, tasteless fish & unexciting presentation. It seemed like a good place to come if you are gay because you'd get the bartender's/waiter's full attention while the other patrons get little more than the bill. Finally, it was not comfortable - with people waiting for tables crowded around those actually seated, no one had any space to relax and enjoy. Pros: good sized salads Cons: rude staff, tasteless food, not worth the $ more
