Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the atti...

Great atmosphere...even better food! 4/12/2008

We went to Firefly last night for the first time and loved it. Our group had a bunch of aps, including the crispy green beans, mussels and bresaola--all of which were amazing! For dinner I had the pasta and my girlfriend had the hamachi. I love wine but, there were a lot of wines I wasn't familiar with so I asked for a recomendation from my server who sent over the manager (Nancy?) She helped us pick the La Rochelle pinot noir and we REALLY loved it. For dessert, try the pistachio cake and the baked alaska. Pros: food, drink, ambiance, service more

Amazing experience for couples looking for a unique romantic experience 3/17/2008

Amazing experience! We took our family of 6 to Firefly while visiting LA and had a memorable and fun experience. The outdoor covered patio bordered with plaster walls with candle insets create a unique feel that was warm, cozy but light and open as well. While clearly a romantic place, our children (ages 8 to 12) felt comfortable and thought trying new flavors of food was fun. Most of all, the staff made us feel comfortable and welcome. Oh, the food - impressive all the way around. My wife and I eat out a lot and enjoy fine food and wine. We LOVED everything! We tasted a bunch of dishes - the special soft shell crab, fresh mushroom salad with white truffle oil, salt & pepper flash fried shrimp, mussels, veal meatballs, fried olives (a must try) before hitting a few entrees like the filet with blue cheese and onions, the lamb steak special. All wonderfully done, bursting with flavors and unique in style. We topped the evening with the banana bread pudding - also wonderful. Overall, we loved Firefly and would highly recommend it as a romantic spot for a unique and fun evening. Lastly we would note the wine list was limited but diverse and frankly reasonable for a place of this caliber - we had a nice bottle of French wine. We'll be back for sure and would encourage other who enjoy fine food and wine to try. Chef Kelly does an amazing job and if you can get Lindsey as your server, she makes the evening memorable! Pros: Romantic outdoor dining, great food and awesome service Cons: not for large groups more

great restaurant/bar, POOR VALET 3/10/2008

i agree....this place is amazing when it comes to venue & food/drink. but the valet experience was horrible. not only did they jump the curb RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, [in doing so....the tire was popped with air hissing out of it as they pulled it around 10 feet....] they DENIED it saying someone slashed it while it was in the parking lot. if that were so....the tire wouldn't be hissing as it came to us, (we were there for several hours.) the mgrs of firefly told us that since it was an independent valet company, we'd have to take it up with them. and that wasn't happening!! firefly did offer us free drinks while we waited for AAA, but we still lost out on the valet taking responsibility for their childlike actions. more

Always stellar. 2/23/2008

I'm surprised to read bad reviews about this place. I have been here numerous times, and it's always great. If the service isnt always immediate at peak hours, deal with it. It is a very popular restaurant, and they do the very best, which is still GREAT! The drinks, crowd, and staff don't dissapoint. Smokers are the modern day lepers, so being one myself, it's nice to have one place to go where it's permitted. To all the people who feel otherwise, quit your whining! Go to Burbank or Calabasas and let us have Firefly! Pros: Food, drinks, service, bars Cons: ? more

AVOID THE VALET AND MGR 1/10/2008

STARTING WITH THE VALET.....BE WARNED....VERY POOR...THE GUY FARTED IN MY CAR (TAKE A BLOODY SHOWER FOR GOD SAKES) THE MGR AND ASST. MGR CARE NOT FOR THE CUSTOMERS AND PAY MORE ATTNTION TO THEIR VALET PARKING GUYS WELLBEING THAN THE CUSTOMERS. POORLY MANAGED ALSO THE CHEF IS SO POMPUSSSS THAT SHE WONT EVEN COME CHAT WITH THE GUESTS...""SOOOO FULL OF HER SELF****"" HERE WE GO AGAIN... THOMAS KELLER HIMSELF WOULD COME OUT AND SAY HELLO AND EVEN INVITE YOU IN TO HIS KITCHEN. NOT THIS PLACE. I GIVE THIS PLACE A BAD BAD WORSE!. Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

Fun restaurant with good food and service 12/27/2007

Firefly has good food, a good bar, and nice decor. It's great for a romantic date or for a large dinner party. Pros: Hip restaurant in Studio City Cons: parking more

Loved It! 10/2/2007

This place was great. From the ambience to the concept and even the food! This place scores an A in my book. We had planned to go on Saturday, but due to a minor hangover we couldn't make it. Thankfully the hostess rescheduled us for Monday night. I love the idea of it being outside with dim lighting. I would recommend this spot for a date or intimate dinner. I personally loved the Pork Chop and the Creme Brulee trio. My boyfriend enjoyed the Tenderloin which was also very good. For starters don't pass up on the fried olives if you like olives. I could seriously sit there all night eating fried olives and drinking wine. I am definately planning to go back with my parents when they are in town. LOVED IT! Pros: Great Food and diverse menu Cons: Smoking is allowed because it's outside seeting, so don't take the little ones. more

A beautiful restaurant filled with beautiful people! 8/21/2007

I decided to check out Firefly on Saturday night at about 10 pm. I walked into the ivy covered building to find a nicely dimmed bar surrounded by beautiful people. I was dining alone, so I decided to make myself comfortable at the bar. The bartenders (Nicole and David) gave me a warm welcome and helped me find a seat right away. A delightful variety of music could be heard from the speakers to set the mood for the fun and flirty atmosphere. At the perfect volume, it was loud enough to be heard but unobtrusive enough to read my book while I waited for my courses. The very charming (and super cute) manager, Tim, approached me and helped me choose a suitable wine for my palate. My first course, the pear, walnut, and arugula salad (per Nicole's recommendation) had arrived. It was delicious and of the perfect portion. I ate every last bite, and as soon as my plate had been depleted, David removed it promptly and filled my water. It was now time for my second course, the pancetta wrapped Halibut. It was baked to perfection, and tasted better with each and every bite. By the time I had finished, my appetite had been completely satisfied, but I still wanted more. I ordered the trio of chocolate creme brule; rich, richer, and even more rich. I was so stuffed that I couldn't finish the last one. Tim had come by again to make sure that everything was perfect and gave me a fond farewell. Pros: SUPER cute staff, food, ambience more

Ok food,over-pretentious,snooty staff!!!! Rated ZERO 8/19/2007

Although I've been to many restaurants, never in my experience I have been to a place like Firefly. Our waitress was snooty and the management Tim (Timmy) was even worse. Whose paying who to eat at the restaurant. The price you pay for the food does not equal to there service......the service was horrific!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: Staff,Management,Parking more

Great ambience, yummy food and delicious drinks! 8/14/2007

I love coming to firefly! With a date, with a group, wiht the girls, you just can never go wrong with this place. Try the rib eye, the beet salad and the creme brulee! MMMMMMMM Oh - and go for a Kir Royale or a French Martini from the bar you will not be disappointed. Pros: the food, the drinks, the ambience. Cons: it's a kinda small place - barely any room in the lounge - ever. more

Great food, great scene 7/30/2007

Went here with my girlfriend and her mom. The GF and I had been wanting to try out Firefly and they delivered! All the food was wonderful, very friendly and helpful waitress. I had the ribeye which was spot on. It was everything I wanted and more. Pros: Great food, great service, great scene Cons: Smoking outside might get bad later in the night more

Best late night menu on the Boulevard! 7/16/2007

It's nice not to have to go over the hill anymore for a good ""late dinner"". I like Firefly's covered patio dining and the standard of quality of the food and service doesn't drop after 10pm. Pros: Reasonable prices Cons: not good for big groups more

great food and atmospher, but avoid with very large groups 7/15/2007

Okay, so we tried Firefly the other night and the food was sensational. I had a salad with butter lettuce and Asian pears and the tuna crudo (?) that was to die for!! My boyfriend had the salt and pepper prawns and the ribeye-both of which were amazing as well. For dessert we tried the parfait, and while I am not a big sweets person, this one shouldn't be missed--one of the best I have ever had. Our server (whose name I can't remember) was a sweet brunette with an Aussie accent--definitely try to ask for her, as she is really atentive and gave us great suggestions the whole night long. My only disappointment....on our way out I tried to set a reservation for 12 people for my boyfriend's birthday and they said they don't take parties over 8--too bad, but we will deffinitely be back with a smaller group! Pros: food and service Cons: don't do large groups more

Shame on City Search 7/15/2007

I would like to start by letting city search know that I find it highly offense that they allow such slander to be posted on their site. I have always used city search to help guide me in my restaurant selections. This will forever change. Do you not monitor your website???????? On a lighter note, I have been a loyal customer of Firefly for over 3 years. Despite the occasional wait for my table, I have never had a bad meal or a problem with any of the staff. Firefly has been my top pick for a wonderful evening out with friends. more

Best food in the valley...if not LA too!!! 7/14/2007

I love this place. After several meals here, I guess you could say we have become regulars at this point! Honestly, I have lived in San Francisco and New York and I have to say that Firefly has some of the best food anywhere!! I realize some folks may not think to try a restaurant in Studio City, but this place is not to be missed! The menu is always changing, which I love (except when i get attached to a particular dish) because it keeps us coming back for more and more. Service is always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. They have yet to suggest a dish or wine that i haven't been crazy about. Trust me...try this place! Pros: food, wine, service more

Worth the drive! 6/27/2007

This is one of my favorites! Not often can you say that a bar is ""romantic"" but this place is so comfy and beautiful. Great for a small group, or a few couples. The front bar and sitting area is like an old comfy library, with leather chairs and walls of books, and the ""outside"" dining area has a great atmosphere with sheers, inset wall sconces and a center fireplace. The bathroom is unisex, but really pretty and actually very clean. This is also a bonus if you're single-hey you'd have a great 1st meeting story (mommy met daddy in the bathroom, hahah) or for a little secret smooch with your honey...keep it clean though! Worth checking out for sure, great for double dates, or a few friends. Pros: Beautiful, intimate and relaxed Cons: Menu is a little spendy, but not too bad more

Not for large parties... 5/30/2007

I've been to Firefly in the past and enjoyed it with two friends. Have some friends coming to town this weekend and wanted to take them with other LA peeps so they could check it out. I called Wednesday to make a reservation for Saturday and was told by Iris that they don't take reservations for 8 people. I was so shocked by her reply that I let it go. But then after the call, I thought to myself WHAT??? Why would a restaurant turn down a reservation because it's for 8 people??? So I called back to make sure I had it clear. This time I spoke with Marie who gave a better explanation. Apparently they don't do reservations for more than 8 because they only have three tables that can accommodate 8 people. This Saturday when I want to go, they already had five reservations for their 8 top tables. Soooooo... If you want to go to Firefly, keep your group compact or call waaaaay in advance to get your reservation because they DON'T do big groups. Pros: Nice bar/lounge area. Restaurant is dark and vibey. Cons: Not for big groups more

A regular's opinion.... 4/27/2007

I live just off of Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, so needless to say, Firefly is sort of my ""local"". I am in there once to twice a week and always impressed with the warmtth and attentiveness of the staff, the quality of the food and wine, and the clientele. I have done everything from stop in alone for a quick bite at the bar, to dining early in the cabanas with my husband and 2 children. While I would agree with other reviewers that the smoke can sometimes be a nuissance, the staff always remembers that we prefer to be in a smoke free area and does a great job of always accomidating those needs. The menu here is stellar and although as a regular, I definitely have my favorites, I am always delighted with the ever changing menu and specials that the kitchen comes up with. Firefly is a true pleasure not to be missed! Pros: cabanas, friendly and attentive staff, food--YUM!! Cons: smoking more

A new favorite!!! 4/25/2007

A large group and I went to Firefly the other night for a family celebration. We were a party of eight and were seated in the back of the restaurant and were initially quite disappointed to find out that they allow smoking in certain areas of the restaruant. We expressed this to our server, who promptly sent over the manager (whose name unfortunately escapes me, but she was a very sweet, petite brunette), who explained that she would be happy to move us, but that we would have to wait a few minutes till another big enough table became available in the non-smoking area. So, she cleared a large area for us in the lounge and even sent of a couple of amazing appetizers for us to share while we waited. We brought a couple of bottles of wine with us, but were quite impressed with their wine list and the staff's knowledge, so we also ordered a bottle we were unfamiliar with and loved, loved, loved it!!!!! By the time we were seated at our new table, any bit of annoyance with the smoke and definitely gone away. Our dinner--food, wine and all turned out to be absolutely amazing! They even sent over a new dessert (the strawberry tart) for our mother in celebration of her birthday which was absolutely to die for--if you go, definitely have it! So, all in all, our experience at Firely was great. The service staff and manager could not have made us feel more welcome if they tried. We will go back again and again! more

my new favorite!!! 4/24/2007

WOW!!! Amazing food!!!! The staff is SOOOOO cool!!!! I read these reviews but rarely write them but I had such a wonderful time on Friday night that I had to go and check out the city search page. I saw some of the reviews and I really wonder whether or not any of these people get out of their homes on a regular basis. We went to Firefly without a reservation the host said we would have to wait a bit for the dinning room but we could have a full dinner in the bar or lounge. It was great the food was to die for and the scene amazing. The bartenders were cute and bought my friend and I a drink! They were extremely busy but the staff was attentive and the food was out of this world!!! I loved it!!! All these people who whine about not getting enough attention or having to wait should stay home so there will be more room for me!!!!!! Pros: amazing ambience, food and service Cons: need reservations more
