Worst

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. My friends and I made a reservation weeks in advance, for 5 people. When we arrived, on time, they proceeded to show us t...

No complaints 4/8/2006

A great find in the art museum area that was cozy but not so close that I would consider it elbow to elbow. Service in the beginning of the evening wasnt great but as the evening moved on our waitress was Johnny on the spot. The food was nothing short of excellent. Started with clams that were nicely sized and very flavorful. For entrees lamb, fillet melon, and duck were all cooked as ordered and came out piping hot. The spinach with garlic came out a little too salty but other than that one detail the dishes were delicious. Desserts are plated nicely but nothing extraordinary about them. Pros: Price, Freshness Cons: Owner more

Owner is rude 11/7/2005

Have visited Figs several times in the past, and have had decent experiences, until recently. My dinner mate had a fall on a recent trip, and sprained his ankle. There were 3 of us for dinner so he rested his sore ankle on the extra chair at the table. We ordered our food, ate every bite, and then the owner came over and insisted that he remove his foot from the chair, stating that it is rude in his culture to do so. My dinner mate stated why his foot was on the chair, and also stated that he knew about the custom, and said that we are in America, and that he would not be doing such a thing if his foot was not hurt. This lead to a major yelling match between the 2 men. We ended up being asked to leave the place. Watch out for him..... Cons: rude owner, rude owner, rude owner more

A worthy gormet experience 3/4/2005

Figs was highly recommended by a trusted friend. This place is and off the beaten path, a bit homespun and eccentric but a very worthy gormet experience. In otherwords it's one of those rare good ""finds"" like discovering a very good family run restaurant while abroad. The food is what its all about here and my date and I marveled at the freshness proper cooking of the fish, the complex and delicious flavotings and variety of ingredience that goes into every dish. The service was friendly if not entirely professional as was the decore but that is the normal for this type of place and in can be though of as part of its charm. All in all it was a fantastic dining adventure that I would gladly repeat to try other things on the menu. Pros: Good Gormet Food, Pleasant Atmosphere, byob more

Such a good evening! 8/23/2004

Since changing Head Chefs in mid-July this place has done nothing but get better. The food was delicious and really unexpected. I really dislike garlic mashed potatoes, but they tasted wonderful with the evening special of salmon. The only thing I found they could improve on was whomever takes reservations, she was a little on the ditzy side. I'm so happy I made reservations at this restaurant, I'm definetly going to go again. Pros: Fair prices, Good decor, Delicious food more

Only an Echo of Its Former Self 7/1/2004

Here's my original review: ""Figs is simply the best B.Y.O.B. in Philly. Even better, it's not overpriced, nor is it difficult to get a table. (Django's should take note.) I can't recommend it highly enough, especially for summertime dining, when its sidewalk tables are ideal. Be sure to get the fig-flavored ice cream for dessert; it's delectable."" Unfortunately, Figs has slipped considerably. My last time there, I ordered a steak medium rare, and received it medium well. When I complained, the chef sent out a replacement that wasn't even rare--it was raw. Moreover, he was pissy about it: for the rest of our meal, he glared at me from the kitchen (which is in full view of the dining room). Our other food was cooked properly, though not especially well. It's a shame, because Figs used to be extraordinary, and now it's merely mediocre. I don't plan on returning. Pros: Fairly Priced more

great neighborhood spot 5/28/2003

Figs is a great little neighborhood place for a casual and delicious dinner. The food has wonderful flavor and we always enjoy trying something different. I can't wait for summer so we can sit outside. We first tried Figs 1 1/2 years ago and have been there a dozen times since. Pros: cozy, terrific flavors, moderate prices Cons: no waiting area, noisy if large party, hovering over diners more

Need to stock more 3/27/2003

Don't get me wrong, this is a great little joint, but to date, I have gone to Figs three times and have yet to have the veggie quasadellas....they are ALWAYS out of it, along with the next two things I pick off the menu. Usually, my 4th choice is what I finally get. So don't go with your heart set on one particular menu item. more

Good food, enjoyable place 2/27/2003

I go to this neighborhood restaurant often, and am always pleased with the quality and price of the food. Sometimes service can be a bit spotty, mainly because there aren't enough servers to go around. However, it's never bad enough to stop me from returning. Harissa marinated octupus app is delicious. Pros: price, food quality Cons: parking more

Food stinks! 2/10/2003

Wow, what a horrible meal! Yuck! This was a huge disappointment. more

Fabulous everything! 11/19/2002

I went to Figs with my husband and a friend, choosing it based on the reviews here, and wanting to try something new. I have already recommended it to others. The food was good - not too heavy, but not sparse either. The service was wonderful - Mustaffa himself waited on us and was friendly. We tried the Fig ice cream and were not disappointed. I would go again, without a doubt! Better for small parties, as its a very small dining room. Pros: great atmosphere, tasty dishes, prompt service more

Fresh Flavors and Terrific Food 11/19/2002

The North African inspired Mediterranean food at Figs was unique and generally terrific. The flavors in all the dishes we ordered were fresh and vibrant. I had a fabulous squid and octopus salad for starters-very tender. Such was also the case with my rack of lamb entree-again tender and flavorful without the gamy quality that sometimes steers me away from lamb. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The service was friendly and attentive. (The server cheerfully and patiently put up with my father's seemingly endless barrage of sometimes purposefully silly questions.) My only complaint is that the atmosphere would improve 100% with some dimmer lighting. Pros: terrific food, reasonably priced Cons: no parking, too bright more

figaliscious 10/14/2002

Everything ranged from quite good to excellent. We sat outside on the funky sidewalk -- laid back, unpretentious and fun Pros: food, friendly atmosphere Cons: parking more
