Consistently Excellent 5/11/2010

Figs is my go-to restaurant when I want to impress out of towners, esp from NYC! Although I've sampled quite a bit from their dinner and appetizer menu, I have to say that I always return to the grilled shrimp. If you request it, you can also get it with their famous vanilla infused rice. It's not ordnarily paired together on the menu, but they take special requests with no problem! Accompanying vegetables are always perfectly prepared and I would also recommend the vegetarian platter. I cannot rave enough about the mouth watering food that they serve here and all for such reasonable prices! You cannot beat the consistency at Figs. If you don't like crowds, and they can get noisy b/c it's a real neighborhood-y and friendly place, I would recommend going during the week. The crowds are much lighter and you can get a chance to speak with the chef/owner, who really seems to care about your meal. We just ate Mother's Day brunch at Figs and my made-to-order egg white omelet was cooked perfectly: filled with fresh spinach, goat cheese and fresh tomatos. The coffee is superb. Fresh squeezed OJ -- I can't rave enough. I have ONLY gotten unobtrusive, friendly but diligent service at Figs. I cannot imagine some of the other descriptions I've read of bad service. I was forwarding this link to a friend who wants to eat somewhere close after the Art Museum, and saw some bad reviews. I was shocked as I have never ever seen anything like this. This is Morroccan food at its finest! Pros: incredibly fresh and reasonably priced food Cons: can get a bit noisy more

wonderful lunch 1/5/2010

My husband and I had lunch yesterday at Figs and had a wonderful surprise. Our lunch was wonderful, great soup. My salad with grilled tuna was perfect. It was quiet and a short walk from the art museum. Just great. Pros: fresh and delicious more

AWFUL! SO RUDE - AND THEY LIE! 11/9/2009

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. My friends and I made a reservation weeks in advance, for 5 people. When we arrived, on time, they proceeded to show us to a square table made for four people, where they had squeezed in a fifth chair. I was practically sitting on top of the man at the next table, but they told us this was a ""five-person table"" when it obviously was not. Next, when we ordered, they started making up ridiculous food minimums for how much we had to order. None of this was printed on the menu, and we ended up being forced to order much more food than we wanted, because if we didn't, they threatened to KICK OUT anyone at our table who didn't meet their minimum. Then, when the bill came, they dropped it on our table, and told us that they had included the gratuity. However, their menu CLEARLY states that gratuity will be added ""for parties of 6 or more"" and we were five people. When we asked to see a menu, they basically threw it at us, and then said ""yeah, well sometimes we do it for 5 people too."" They are rude liars, and with so many great BYO's in Philly, I would recommend that you try any other restaurant before coming here. Cons: The owner, the manager, and the waitresses more

Excellent Place Overall! 9/10/2009

My boyfriend & I went here on a date night & there were too many choices of what to eat, so we just got 5 differnet appetizers to share. They were so good, all of them! We had 2 bottles of wine & they didn't complain or anything about our lengthy stay even though they were near closing time. The whole bill came to $36! For 5 appetizers! We were stuffed. Great place! Pros: Cute & Romantic Cons: Got a bit loud from other patrons more

Figs In Fairmount RUDE SERVICE. Not worth the trip. 8/31/2009

Would give this place NO STARS if it was possible. Cons: rude service more

Amazing Food for a Solid Price! 5/14/2008

Figs is definitely a gem of a restaurant in our city! The place is very small, but the food is phenomenal! To date, I have tried plenty of items on their menu, incuding filet mignon, tuna, crabcake (seasonal)...they were all so delicious!! The price is VERY reasonable for the quality of food that you are receiving. Two things to know: it is a BYOB and they only accept cash. So if you are going there for a special event or just to have a relaxing evening, be prepared with those two things! Pros: Food is delicious and so reasonably priced! Cons: Cash only. No ""buts"" about it. more

Great food and atmosphere...a little salty 3/20/2008

I've been to this place twice now. A bunch of us ordered different entrees and tried each others' dishes. The service is great and all the menu items are tasty. I must say though, that the cous-cous mixture for the lamb was salty...I couldn't finish it. The lamb was delicious though. The duck is excellent...but the spinach that comes with it is salty. If they cut down on the salt for those things, I would be able to taste the food. Pros: Duck, Salmon, Lamb Cons: Salty on some of the sides of the entrees more

Love IT! 11/26/2007

this place is the best. Pros: service, food, more

Fantastic Food!!! 5/24/2007

I'm a member of a Philly Women's Dinner Club and this is one of the BEST places we have been to. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: small, door is very close to dining area more

Horrible. 4/17/2007

I agree with the review ""rude rude rude"". The same thing happened to my partner and I, though we had called ahead. We went there to celebrate our anniversary and as far as the food goes, it was good. The service though was unexcusable. When my partner and I toasted and tried each other's food, I looked over at the kitchen (which can be viewed from all tables) and saw the kitchen staff mocking us. When I addressed this to the waitress, she just shrugged. To top it off, once we left, the kitchen staff (3 men) were standing outside smirking at us. I wish I was making this up. I have never been treated like that before. Pros: Food. Cons: The food doesn't make up for the homophobic staff. more

great for a night away from rittenhouse & old philly...authentic, delcious food -- friendly service -- worth the trip more

Rude, rude, rude 4/6/2007

We walked in ad said ""Hi, could we have a table for 2, please?"" Pros: Food was not bad Cons: Absolutely the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. more

Great custpmer service/food 2/17/2007

Just got home from our dining experience & felt I should compliment right away. Customer Service was excellent for our party of ""8"". Our server made sure after reciting the specials at one end of the table, the other end was sure to have heard them. Our food was served promptly and our wine was attended to efficiently. Evverybody in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals and desserst. Recommedations were made to us in ordering pir main courses and our desserts. I will definitely return with my husband and our friends as this was an enjoyable experience. 2/17/2007 more

Always tasty, no big frills - just great food 11/28/2006

I've read some rants and it appears that some people have been less than happy with the service - the person offended for being asked to take his foot off of the chair, for example. C'mon, buddy, people sit on those chairs! I've always had decent, respectible service, the food has been consistently delicious and the table is ready when you ask for it. Pros: Delicious food Cons: dessert could be better more

Couldn't have been more pleased... 10/27/2006

This is a fantastic place with excellent food. I've been in Philly about a year now and eaten at many of the ""great"" places around town and this is definitely a great spot. No one was pretentious, the service was great, food hot and flavorful, etc. etc. It's a great neighborhood BYOB and I hope it stays that way. When it becomes a ""destination"" it loses the charm. Be sure to get in on this place before others do...its definitely a find in Philly. Pros: Great food, service, atmosphere Cons: A bit pricey but no more than other BYO's more

Mediocre and overpriced 8/27/2006

I first heard about figs on restaurant. com, and even using one of their $10 gift certificates, the mediocre food still wasn't worth the money I spent. It's a small hole in the wall place that charges a lot by trying to be pretentious and better than it is. Poor ingredients too. I'd recommend this place only if you've run out of other places to eat. Pros: good service, completely empty inside Cons: parking, food, dirty floors more

Relax people! It's only dinner... 6/14/2006

Figs is a favorite in the Fairmount neighborhood. It has a very family, quirky feel to it, so if you walk in expecting an overproduced, snobby atmosphere that seems to equate BYOB these days, you will be disappointed. The food is wonderful -- the lamb and salmon are recommended. On my last visit we wanted to share a salad. It was split on two plates for us, no need to ask. The service staff are not Le Bec Fin trained, but every encounter was done with a smile. This is a great place to RELAX and enjoy the meal. Those who wish to see and be seen should go elsewhere (please.) Pros: Ambience, quality, value Cons: Parking more

Terrible... 5/25/2006

Terrible service..terrible food...Silverware was dirty and food was cold. Complained and waitress just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Cons: Food, Service, Owner more
