SERVICE GREAT ,FOOD GREAT, AMBIENCE GREAT, IT REALLY DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER . Pros: VALET, FOOD, SERVICE Cons: TOO CROWDED more

4th visit 11/26/2002

What a great addition to the dinning scene in St paul, Fhima's in it's infancy is better than all the other restaurants's in St paul, by far a better ambience ,service, menu selections and definetly wine list , on every occasion the food got better so did the presentation I wouldhighly recommend the lamb tagine the haricot vert, and the great sorbets. Pros: Wine list, food, service Cons: floors more

unsnob 11/23/2002

I have to admit at first when I saw the menu I thoght oh no another restaurant trying to do it all, and what are the nachos and wings doing on the same menu as tartare and lamb tagine , well I have just learned a lesson that in my years of fine dinning and casual dinning around the world I have not learned how to unsnob, what a great dinner and great service in a stunningambience , stunning in it's simplicity and ""savoire faire"", the lamb tagine was excellent we shared it as an appetizer although it is a main course, we also had the salmon wich was moist and fresh over a surprisingly nice garbanzo bean stew, what a statement in boldness appealing to the masses with nachos and tagine to the adventurous, usually chef's do not take those risks , this is a tour de force restaurant. Pros: variety, service, decor more

WORST 11/22/2002

Went to this new ""hot spot"" for dinner. It has a long way to go to compete with the St. Paul Grille, Kincaid's, Pazaluna, or even the venerable old Gallivan's. The lighting in the entrance makes everyone look like the living dead. The decor isn't friendly and I surmise will be downright cold in the middle of winter. The bartenders never got the orders right and couldn't remember anyone's order the next time. We had to tackle the hostess to remind her to seat us (though the joint wasn't crowded). Our waiter wasn't interested in describing the menu, taking our orders, or following up with us. The food was average and overpriced. Although the presentation was fine, it was an excercise in elevating form over substance. My T-bone was a half-inch thick! In short, we will never go back and will advise our friends to avoid it at all costs. Pros: Parking Cons: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

EXCELLENT 11/21/2002

THE TARTARE WAS INCREDIBLE SO WAS THE CREME BRULEE, THE PRICES A LITTLE HIGH BUT WORTH IT, A LITTLE OF A DRIVE FROM WAYZATA, WHEN WILL THEY OPEN FHIMA'S IN WAYZATA? OH THE SERVICE WAS PROFESSIONNAL AND KNOWLEDGABLE. Pros: ATMOSPHERE, FOOD, SERVICE Cons: ST PAUL more

In St Paul? 11/13/2002

This is a restaurant that has a lot to say for itself, and it does without pretense, an eclectic menu that combines an incredible haricot vert and a a very flavorful tagine, I normally wouldn't rate a restaurant but for the 3 times that I have been to Fhima's it has gotten better and better, my favorite dessert was the lemon torte or tarte, you know a great restaurant by the way the bathrooms are kept the bathrooms [men's ] were perfect, and in St Paul of all places. Pros: Valet, Service, Cuisine more

Extraordinaire 11/2/2002

Finally a restaurant with guts and flair , a restaurant that obviously has taken a lot of risks in a very boring market ,what a unique combination of French fusion cuisine in a hip and trend setting atmosphere from the meritage tartare to the stunningly classic Creme brulee, a wine selection that is vast and transceds the norms, my only complaint no captain's list but according to the owner one will be available, this a restaurant that a couple of other places {wich will rename nameless have already tried to immitate, good luck], Bravo Pros: Decor, Unique cuisine, Service more

Eclectic Brilliance 10/31/2002

Had to have food... Amazing food... And warm and luxurious yet hip and non-stuffy atmosphere... I heard about Fhima's... I found wonderful steak with bernaise and pork tagine and basil angelhair pasta with roasted spears of asparagus and something they like to call chouk-chouka... I sufficiently spiked my fellow diners with a nice bottle of wine... Then the dinner comfortably melted into a rich slice of Gateau au Chocolat... ...I wish I lived closer. Pros: Food Quality, Interesting Menu, Totally Groovy Cons: Parking more

Surprise dissapointment 10/31/2002

What is this place trying to be? a bistro? fine dining? its hard to define but it doesn't work. Expensive but average food - the Ceasar salad dressing was more like thousand island out of the bottle. Lots of jeans crowd so I felt really overdressed wearing a coat and tie. And spending about $65.00 a person I was treated to eating on a plastic table surface (no tablecloth) and seated in a plastic non cushioned chair. All the cold hard surfaces made this a loud restaurant certainly not one for a quiet intimate fine dining experience. Its too bad as we do need more restaurants downtown. Cons: noisy, uncomfortable, overpriced more

AWK! 10/31/2002

This is not a pleasant eating environment. Snacks & drinks - great. Meeting a group of friends for fun, fun, fun - great. Fine dining -NO. Romantic dinner - NO. Fine cuisine - NO. So, the problem I had was that the environment is inconsistent with the food. The environment suggests bar food. Do not go here to experience the food. more

Bravo!! 10/31/2002

Food is amazing...had the Keftda tenderloin with mint and saffron basmati rice. To Die For!! HUGE wine selection. Had a great bottle of white wine for around $20. Tables in the front of the restaraunt are a bit chilly, reccommend sitting towards the back. Chocolate mousse and creme brulee...mmmm! Music Wednesday and Thursday is Sensacion Latina...upbeat salsa music :) ""The"" place to be for live salsa during the week. more

Cha Cha Cha 10/28/2002

The room is fun and everyone looks great in that pinkinsh lighting. The pommes were so so but the boullibaisse was to die for. Tons of clams, mussells, saffron, shrimp, and salty broth. I could eat it every day. The lamb tagine was out of this world, cooked in a clay pot. We loved the music and the scene. A fun place for a date or a big group. We will be back, and often. Love to see great things in downtown. A second and third visit were not as good. I hope it was a fluke. Pros: food, music, scene Cons: slow service, inconsistant food more

Flashy & Fun 9/26/2002

I recently had my surprise b-day at Fhima's with my wife and friends. The wait staff was excellent although some were still new. Food was brought twice to our table instead of the correct table. That stuff can be worked out. The food was fantastic and the Retro/Funk lighting was way cool. Seemed almost futuristic. I will definitely go back. I love the idea that St Paul is competing with Minneapolis with good fun restaurants. A nice three person Jazz band played and a couple of us enjoyed a good cigar from the very large humidor. I love the floor to ceiling walls of wine. Thanks Fhima's for making my birthday more special. Pros: Ambience, Food, Music Cons: Cigar Prices High more

Excellent 9/18/2002

Walk in and seeing the colors of the lighting and decor makes you forget that you're in Minnesota. From the excellent people watching and great tasting martinis you can move onto a delightful dinner, especially the Paella! Very hip! David, you've done a good job. Pros: Excellent valet for $, Paella, desserts more

MPLS SNOB 9/14/2002

I had been so disappointed everytime I wondered by mistake to St Paul for dinner, that it took some heavy conviencing from friends from me to try this new restaurant called FHIMA's!! Was I ever in for a surprise!! This restaurant straight out of either New York or L.A.! We started out in the bar area, which is awesome, great people watching and the decor is so cool, it has to be seen in person to get the the true picture! Now, on to the food..which was excellent!! I had the ""special"" for the evening.. mussels..succulent!! I tried other dishes, which included the swordfish and pasta! The dinner turned into everyone tasting each others meals!! Our servers and the service could not have been improved upon!! From the mouth of a Mpls Snob, if you haven't been to St. Paul and Fhima's yet, you are definitely missing out!!!! Pros: valet parking, value for the $, great location more

WOW! 9/7/2002

I don't normally go online and do reviews but I just came across this sight and thought I would check out the restaurant that I just visited! All I can say is WOW! We had so much fun and such amazing food, I've eaten at very fine dining across the world and FHIMAS ranks among the very best! (the last reviewer is obviously smoking something harmful to their brain!) We dined with our entire family, including 4 kids and we all had incredible meals, something for everyone and not only that, the service was phenomenal; she even made time to play and talk with the kids. The restaurant was packed and everything was flawless. There was an energy in the room that felt like we were being lulled into great moods by the succulant aromas coming from the kitchen! I haven't had an evening like that in a long time! Pros: Incredible Lighting, Amazing Service, Delicious Food more

Nice Try 9/6/2002

Service was friendly but quite slow. A bottle of wine ordered before the meal was not even opened until our dinners were on our table for approximately 10 minutes. This was a disappointment and certainly made an impact on the overall enjoyment factor. Food was quite pricey considering the fact it was neither very tasty nor was it presented well. Finally, an attempt on a chic, hip decor was muddled by tacky light fixtures and wall hangings. more

Outstanding !!! 8/22/2002

This is THE place in downtown St Paul. Great ""Main & Main"" location with incredible food & service. more

Ca va! 8/21/2002

I was immediately impressed with the surroundings. It is bright, open, and comfortable. The food offerings are interesting, and having been there twice for lunch and once for dinner, all items have been tasty. Our service has been friendly and generally quick, with one exception during a very busy lunch. Try the Haricots Verts appetizer with the Thai peanut sauce. Different and delicious! Pros: Interesting food, Huge wine selection, decent service Cons: Wine is expensive, Smokey dessert more

Hip But Hungry 8/20/2002

While the surroundings are very cool the food left something to be desired. We were a group of 6 on Saturday night. We started with the Greek Nachos-lots of cheese short on olives/peppers, the Green Beans were tasty/pricy, the Pommes Frites-fine. Pizzas were good-great crust. We tried Basil Angel Hair Pasta-very plain, Balsamic & Chicken Rigatoni-very parmesan cheesy & Seafood Rigitoni--full of minuscule shrimp with 1 jumbo shrimp, 2 scallops, 3 mussels, 2 clams 1 of which wasn't open. Also tried the salmon-OK. The service was fine. An order of 2 Margheritas came with the liquor in one glass & the mix in the other. Expected better food. Pros: Wine List, Contemporary Decor, Parking Cons: Consisency with food more
