TRES CHIC 3/19/2003

SOPHISTICATED DECOR,CREATIVE AND FLAVORFUL CUISINE, PROFESSIONNAL SERVICE ALL IN THIS WONDERFUL RSTAURANT I WILL DEFINETLY BE BACK Pros: SERVICE, CUISINE, WINE LIST more

You've got to check it out! 3/12/2003

I was blown away by Fhima's. I took my fiancee, two of her friends and my brother out for her birthday. The five of us had drinks, 2 bottles of wine, a phenomenal meal and desert (one complementary for her birthday) and spent less than we would have at the small town restaurant that I work at. I raved about the experience for days and still talk about it as excitedly as I did weeks ago. I recommend it to everyone that I talk to and will undoubtedly go back again. The food, service (which was the best that I had ever had) and ambiance make Fhima's an absolute must. Oh, and you've got to try the creme brulee! Pros: atmosphere, service, food more

Impressive 3/11/2003

By far one of the best wine list in the country and reasonable, menu eclectic and extremly good, service proffessionnal and very friendly, the atmosphere is simple ,chic , hipp and elegant my only complaint would be ,needs a final polishing on service touches for this caliber restaurant you excpect the best and should get it. Pros: atmosphere, food, wine list more

very mod 3/3/2003

The atmosphere is very unusual for Saint Paul: it would be more at home in say, Philadelphia, where mod bars are the rage. My wife and I had a tapas plate, made up of various Moroccan recipes. It was distinctive, though the bread they served it with was particularly hard to spread things on because of its shape. We also ordered pizza, and because of a mix-up, we got two different types rather than one. It was awful, no better than frozen. I was really surprised. The staff are all top-notch and one has the feeling of being in a classy place. But skip the pizza. Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: pizza, cost more

St Paul has arrived 3/3/2003

From the moment you enter this restaurant you forget that you are in St Paul, from the decor to the cuisine and service Fhima's delivers, very impressive wine list great menu items not your usual meat and potato place desserts need some work the creme brulee was excellent however the dessert special was mediocre, the overral experience was phenomenal. Pros: Valet, food, Servic more

NY,LA 2/24/2003

A very cool atmosphere with the best cuisine around , we had the mussels followed by the lamb tagine , the lamb litteraly melts in your mouth the wine list is extensive but when we could not get a listed wine the chef owner came to our table and discussee wine and food with us it made our evening, music a little too loud . Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: loud music more

NY but its not 2/19/2003

This place is too busy trying to be NY trendy when its not...the disc jockey in the middle of a restaurant during prime dining hours is ridiculous. The kiddy tables by the dance floor are affected. The food was outstanding for the most part... with a couple of items ""muddy"" in their seasoning... as if they just dumped a couple of spices in by the handfull... the ""pottery"" backed dishes in point....Wine list is excellent. The place could be great but it needs a little more separation between activities from a sound perspective.... Pros: Wine List, Waiters Cons: Kiddy Tables, Echoes Everywhere more

Special 2/12/2003

We had dinner at Fhima's for the first time a month ago , everything was great , what made us come back is that after our visit we were called back and asked about our experience we were so impressed we come back 2 nights ago , this is definetly the classiest restaurant in the twin cities Pros: Service, food, parking more

Interesting 2/10/2003

We went with a group of 4, it took a while to be seated, but that OK because the bar is great. We sat near the front door, which was cold. The service was good, even though they thought it was slow and comped desert, we were surprised. They also followed up with a phone call the next day to ask how dinner was. Pros: Nice bar, Good service, Fun Apps Cons: Cold by door more

atmosphere 2/3/2003

great lighting, great atmosphere, service attentive and proffesionnal, I had a steak not expecting much it is as good if not better than any steakhouse in town, great creme brulee, the apple tarte was not hot but good nontheless, we will definetly be back. Pros: food, service, decor more

perplexed 1/28/2003

I am so perplexed by some of the reviews, I have never reviewed anything at least not online, I have to make an Exception for this restaurant although not perfect it is wonderfully balanced between creative cuisine, atmosphere and a fun environment my 7th or 10th time was this week end and it has only gotten better, I may not agree with all the10's but certainly think that the lower scores are so out of line, as of now to me this restaurant represent what is lacking in the twin cities, innovative cuisine, great service in a fun environment. Pros: food, food, food more

OVERPRICED! Mediocre food. 1/27/2003

This restaurant was very disappointing. The food was mediocre and WAY overpriced. Try Kincaid's next door, excellent food there for the value. more

Elegant and sexy 1/24/2003

The decor is simple elegance without pretense, the menu from the meritage tartare to the lamb tagine is tasty and presented with a lot of passion, very sexy late night although the music can be a little loud, service very attentive but is lacking in detail something I am sure will be taken care of,the chef and owner stoped by our table a special touch from such a notable chef, we have heard of him and it was nice to see somebody cares and has passion for his trade. Pros: Chef, menu, ambience Cons: details more

Would you like fries with that? 1/22/2003

Not sure of the fascination with fries; I asked my husband if we were really at McDonalds. We started out with Mussels, which were served with fries. Nonetheless, these were fresh and cooked just right in a curry/coconut-like sauce. Phenomenal. However; unless you want to eat overcooked chicken jerky, skip the Poulet Roti (half a Cornish game hen w/sprig of rosemary; served with FRIES). Very skimpy on the Seafood Rigatoni (a note to Manager: Instead of the bay shrimp, opt for three full-sized shrimp). Both our bartender and our server were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The decor is excellent. Last note to Manager: Work on the menu. Experiment with types of bread and olive oil for dipping. Your swanky place can do without so much fries :) Pros: Weekend Dj's, Tasteful Decor, Wine/Cigar lists Cons: Menu selection, Over-priced bardrinks, Parking ???? more

Avant garde 1/13/2003

It is really refreshing to find this type of restaurant in Mpls, excellent variety but with style I never thought that preceding my filet mignon with gourmet nachos but boy was I pleasantly surprised, my dinning experience was memorable because the service was friendly ,knowledgeable ,and extremly detailed I will certainly be back to this very avant garde restaurant. Pros: Service, Service, Service more

Did you see ME there? 1/13/2003

Sure it's a ""poser"" type place. Oh well...it's fun, and I think St. Paul has the really cool type people hanging out there, not suburban twits who shop Arden B, wear the wrong color of MAC lipstick and TRY to be cool. The Hostess forgot about us (hang onto your post-it note, honey) & we had to bug them for the table that was open when we got there 20 minutes prior. GREAT decor, fair prices, and nice service staff. Wine list was HUGE and VERY well-priced. Tapas plate-very good, caesar salad good with cumin added, but the swordfish (menu, not special) was boring, over-cooked & bland. Yet we still had a nice evening, and will probably go back. Note to manager: that little area by the font window is FREEZING! The curtains don't stop the cold air. more

I would rather eat broken glass 1/3/2003

Possibly the worst service I have ever had! When we finally got one of those low tables for our party of 4 we didn't have enough chairs. One woman sat on her fiance's lap. However, although we'd been refused when we asked the hostess for a chair from another table, when another couple later asked for chairs, they were provided. We also could not get our server's attention and sat with empty glasses for quite a while before giving up. We left before eating it was so bad, and they had the nerve to round the bar bill UP to the nearest dollar. I will never go back! Cons: terrible service, Terrible Service, TERRIBLE SERVICE more

A New Favorite! 1/2/2003

Ive eaten at Fhimas 3 times and have yet to be disappointed. One experience was for lunch and the other two were for dinner with bigger groups. The atmosphere is funky and unique and the same can be said about their food. The portions are generous and the flavors exceptional. Finally a place that can make great seafood paella in St. Paul! Ive yet to hear anyone Ive dined with have a bad meal. The wait-staff have overall all been pretty good. The wine list has a good selection and is not terribly over-priced. Definitely a place to check out! Try to get the table semi-enclosed in the wine cellar a very cool spot to sit. My pick for the best new restaurant in the twin cities! more

A welcome addition 12/13/2002

I've visted Fhima's about six times -- lunches, dinner, happy hour... After a few growing pains, the kitchen and staff have hit their stride. OK, so it's trendy -- is that really that important? The food is good, definitely a different menu than we're used to in St. Paul, so points for something different. I've not been terribly impressed with the pastas, but everything else is delightful. The wine list is absolutely superb! The noise level gets loud late night, so definitely not recommended for a post concert experience. Prices are very reasonable -- $8 - $23 for entrees. Service is usually good -- a few space-cadets but mostly winners. Pros: Unique, Good food, Great atmosphere Cons: uneven quality more

Extraordinaire 12/11/2002

It is my first visit I have heard of Fhima's thru friend's as being hip and trendy so reluctantly I tried it after all how many hip and trendy restaurants are they in Mpls StPaul that also serve fine cuisine? the answer is 1 and it is Fhima's an incredible wine list , eggs and caviar , filet mignon with a potato souffle and probably the best desserts, Extraordinaire. Pros: Valet, Decor, Eclectic more
