I have been there many times with my pets, recently I went there with a very sick baby and they took great care of him, the front staff greeted me with direct eye contact and a smile, I felt very welcomed as did my pet. after greeting me one of the front girls came in front to welcome my pet and talked to them welcoming them to the clinic. The doctors proceded to call me in the room and we very up front about everything that was going on and showed me all my xrays explaining each in detail and then proceded to show me my blood work and explain what each value meant (in terms i could understand) they offered multiple different ways they could treat my pet so i could still pick what was best for me but at the same time i could afford. After I picked my treatment plan the girls in the back proceded to come in and take there time with me showing me each step and how to do the treatment when i was going to be on my own at home. They didn't rush my pet at all. they should great concern and care for my baby. After completeing my visit i was helped to the car with all my treatments asked again if i had any questions. I went home and my pet was feeling better, they proceded to call me that evening and the next morning to make sure all was well and offer there concern and care. I wuld rate this clinic # 1. I bet you tried them they would over acheive your expectations. Please remember that most people who leave negative comments about a place dont tell the whole story of what really happened just their version making them look like they did nothing wrong!!!!and you can't please everyone this is a stand up place who STANDS BEHIND THERE WORK, and thats hard to find. more

worst office staff 1/6/2012

I took my new puppy for her first exam. I have been to the vet many times over 5 years ago. I used to love this place. The vets are very good. My dog had a slight ear infection so the vet gave her the first dose of antibiotics while we were there, along with an allergy shot. When I went to the front to pay, they found that I owed $53.00 from over 5 years ago with my last pet. I never rcvd a bill and completely forgot that i owed it. I had no problem paying it, however i only had $100.00 in my bank acct today. She gave me a total of over $150 which included the past due amount. I apologized and told them I only had the $100. They refused to give me the antibiotic ear drops that they started my puppy on while in the exam room! I asked to speak to the vet, they would not let me even wait for him to be available. So i left did not pay for any services at all. Even if i payed the $100 for todays visit they refused to give me her antibiotics w/o paying the debt that was over 5 years old. Now more

Now I have to go to another vet or her ears will get worse, esp since she began antibiotics and wasnt given a chance to finish them. 2 of the 3 front office staff which included the front office manager were completely rude and uncaring. more

Great local vet clinic, grooming and boarding facility 10/17/2011

I have taken my pets to Dr. Frank and Andy Hagan since 2003. They have always exemplified upmost care and honesty in their practice. No matter how busy they are, they make you and your pet feel important. A month ago my dog had a freak accident that caused him to break his foot. I brought my dog in without an appointment on a Monday morning. Without any hesitation, the staff and doctor made it possible for him to be seen and treated right away. On another occasion, I brought my cat in for cold like symptons. How pleasantly surprised I was when they waved the visit fee. I am sure this care for their pets and their owners is not unusual for this office. Whomever, has something negative to feedback about E.S.A.C must of had a bad day before walking in. Because, Escalon Small Animal Clinic is a great place for near and far pet owners. The doctors and staff are always there to make your experience a great one. more

Beware: Rocky's Story 8/4/2011

I found Rocky, a four year old doberman Pinscher with an injured leg on the side of French Camp Rd. on June 6th, 2011. I drove him straight to Dr. Haggin's Small Animal Clinic in Escalon. At 1:00pm I was called by Dr. Haggin's office informing me that the younger Dr. Haggin wanted to do an X-Ray and the charge would be $80.00. I said ""Go ahead.""Later, at 3:15pm I recieved a call from the ""younger"" Dr. Haggin who stated ""This is an old dog, his leg is moth-eaten, he has cancer, as well as a shattered pelvis, and has just a few months to live. Dr. Haggin recemmended surgery for the pelvis and chemotherapy for the cancer, which would cost at least $2000.00 dollars or he stated the other alternative was to put him down. I was upset but could not afford the chemotherapy so I said to please put the dog down. The ""kind"" doctor said ""ok, I will split the cost of euthanasia with you."" The doctor then put me on the phone with the receptionist who stated ""the charge to put the dog down is $400.00 dollars, but the doctor is only charging you $200.00 dollars, so you owe us $280.00 dollars."" I stated that sounded very high. The receptionist said ""No, the dog weighs 70lbs. and it takes a lot of medication to put him down."" I stated the dog was starved and there was no possible way he weighed 70lbs. The receptionist said, ""Well you can take him to a shelter to be put down and then bury him in your backyard to save money but it's still going to cost you every bit of $200.00 dollars!"" I was stunned in reagrds to what was being said and how rudely it was said. I know about phenobarbital, which is used to put dogs down, and I know it does not cost that much. I went down to the clinic and insisted on speaking with the younger Dr. Haggin. After making me wait an hour he finally agreed to talk with me. Dr. Haggin then insisted that due to the dog's alleged weight of 70lbs. it would cost $200.00 dollars worth of medicine to put him down and that he would ""just be breaking even.""I knew right then that I was being taken advantage of and being lied to. I stated I would no longer be doing business with the doctor as he was taking advantage of me. I stated I would no longer be bringing in my three other dogs who regularly were seen at this clinic for Vet treatment, boarding and grooming. I took Rocky to see Dr. Santos in Turlock. Dr. Santos weighed Rocky- his weight 39 pounds, not 70 pounds! Dr. Haggin had lied to me about Rocky's weight as I had suspected. Dr. Santos kept Rocky overnight and did bloodwork and X-rays.He called me the next day-with the results-ROCKY DID NOT HAVE CANCER! In fact he was a healthy dog with an old leg injury. Rocky also DID NOT HAVE A SHATTERED PELVIS! When I told Dr. Santos about the younger Dr. Haggin stating it would cost $200.00 dollars worth of medication to put Rocky down he shook his head in disbelief. He then took out a vial and said that a $40.00 vial of medicine could put down 10 dogs Rocky's size. It would cost approximately $4.00 worth of medicine to put Rocky down. Dr. Santos also said Rocky is approximately 4 years old-not an old dog as Dr. Haggin had stated. Thank God I did not listen to Dr. Haggin after I realized I was being lied to and taken advantage of. Rocky is doing great now. He gained 20lbs. and now weighs 59lbs. He is walking and running on all four legs, and is a wonderful loving and protective pet. He is very healthy and happy. I cannot believe there are vets out there like the younger Dr. Haggin who will lie and take advantage of someone who has a heart for animals to make money off of a sad situation. I also cannot believe there are vets out there like the young Dr. Haggin that can totally misdiagnose a dog's condition, stating they have cancer and a fractured pelvis when that is totally not the case. VETS LIKE THE YOUNG DOCTOR HAGGIN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE VETERINARY MEDICINE IN MY OPINION. more

Beware:Rocky's Story 8/3/2011

I found Rocky, a starving 4 year old Doberman Pinscher with an injured leg on the side of French Camp Rd. on June 6th, 2011. I was driving home from my job and had just got off the graveyard shift. I was able to get Rocky into my truck and I drove him straight to Dr. Haggin's Small Animal Clinic in Escalon. I was told that the "younger Dr. Haggin" would do a "free exam" when he came in later that morning. At 1:00pm I was called by Dr. Haggin's office informing me that Dr. Haggin wanted to do an X-Ray which would cost me $80.00. I said "Go Ahead." Later, at 3:15pm I recieved a call from the younger Dr. Haggin who stated " this is an old dog, his leg is moth eaten, he has cancer, as well as a shattered pelvis, and has just a few months to live. hometown rudeness 7/15/2011

For the past 30 years or more I've been taking my pets to Hagan. I started going to Hagan's when Tom Hagan was still working. He was a very good vet.. and compassionate. I recall when he came to my home to put my Bernese Mt. dog down. He was suffering from hip displasia. Frank has seen several of our dogs over the years. With regret I only saw Andrew a few times. I was impressed that I saw a lot of his Grandfathers qualities. It upsets me that I had to take my best friend for over 11 years, my chocolate lab "Cola" to some stranger to be put to sleep for her hips as well. I was upset with the office staff over a matter. I voiced my opinion, and found out that Franks wife refused service to me for telling her my opinion. It's a shame the office staff lacks the professionalism the vets have. more

Excellent Vet Clinic 2/16/2011

I have taken my pets to Dr Frank and Dr Andy Hagen since 1996. Dr Frank Hagen is an excellent vet, and very honest. Several years ago I brought my dog in because he had some plaque but I was concerned about the anesthesia. Dr Andy explained the risks and that it was only necessary because most dogs won't let you scrape their teeth. Well my dog let him clean the plaque off his teeth. How many vets would even consider trying. Their staff is excellent and very caring. more

Dr. Hagan and his staff are GREAT! I had an emergency with my young rottie and was not able to get into the vet I had been going to for many years. Escalon Small Animal Clinic was able to see our dog within 45 minutes. Not only was the service fantastic, our rottie is now feeling much better and the bill was extremely reasonable. I now have a new vet. Thanks Escalon Animal Clinic! more

Wonderful & Caring 7/19/2010

My family has been using the Hagans as our vets for almost 40 years. Our animals, and us, have always been treated with the utmost care by the knowledgeable staff and doctors. The price is very comparable to other vets and there's the convenience of being close by. I wouldn't dream of taking my animals anywhere else. more

Great VET and STAFF! 7/6/2010

I used to take my dogs to Escalon Clinic until I moved out of the area they were always professional and curtious and very reasonably priced by comparison to other local vets. My cat was beat up by a neighborhood cat and he had an infection and abcess in his leg. I called around my new community and the price was either too high or they couldn't see him due it being an "emergency" I called Escalon Clinic and they told me to bring him down immediately they took great care of him and gave him meds immediately to bring his fever down from the infection. I am very pleased with the personal and caring services they provided for my cat and at such a short notice. Even though it is a 35 minute drive I will continue to take my pets to the Escalon Animal Clinic. more

Lucky she is!!!! 6/28/2010

In the midst of all the sad things that happen in this world today, you can always find one thing to keep you going. \r Today, I could say that Escalon Small Animal Clinic did just\r that. They proved that they care so much about what they do\r and their patients. \r \r I found a chihuahua dog on Mariposa, out in the middle of no where. I thought it was dead, I stopped to move it to the side\r so that it wouldn't get completely destroyed. To my surprise the doggy was still alive. I picked it up, it bit me because it was so scared..I kept it at work all day then took it in to Escalon. I was so sad to hear it had a fractured leg, but so happy to hear that it was only that. The staff was so kind to me and the doggy, which is now named LUCKY. They helped me financially and emotionally. It did my heart good to know\r that there are people in this world that care about animals instead of just their pocketbooks. LUCKY is very close to a full recovery and now greets me every morning with th more

Best Animal Clinic Ever 2/27/2010

My family has been taking all of our animals to Escalon Small Animal Clinic since 1988- thats right, 22 years. Thats a very long time and I wouldn't go anywhere else. They take amazing care of all of my pets. We live in the country and have had a ton of different pet problems, like broken legs, allergic reactions, surgeries, old age pets, you name it, we have had a pet who had it. The Hagan's (all of them) have been great, they always go the extra mile to make sure your pet is well taken care of. \r When we go on vacation we have our animals stay at the center, knowing that they are not only fed, but played with and loved on. I would reccomend taking all your animals to Frank and Andrew, you will know that you have received the best possible care for your pets. more

Excellent Staff and Care 2/22/2010

This is the ONLY place I take my dogs. I have gone to each of the 3 generations with my animals. First Tom, then Frank, and now Andrew and Frank. This clinic is so much more. When my dog suffered a brain trauma the emergency clinic in Modesto couldn't tell me what was wrong, even after $600 worth of tests. Within 5 minutes Frank knew she needed to see a neurologist. The staff made an appt for us and my Grumpi is alive today thanks to Frank's knowledge and action. As I read the negative reviews I wondered if these people had actually been to this clinic. They are very warm and caring. After approximately 50 years of the care my animals have received at the hands of the Hagans I can honestly say that they are the best vets around. AND they have a boarding and grooming arm of the business as well where they will care for my Grumpi who can no longer be vaccinated. She is in isolation when she stays there for both her protection and the protection of the other residents. I've ne more

Unprofessional!! The office manager, and daugther vet tech are rude and unprofessional. Not to mention that the daughter's kid is always running around and crying. Not very professional way to run a business. more

Horrible Vet Clinic - Don't Go There 1/4/2010

If you love your pets, don't subject them to this clinic. The doctors are alright, but it is the staff that is horrible. Mainly, the office manager. She is rude and not friendly. Pros: nothing Cons: horrible staff - rude more

BEST VET 5/4/2009

I had the pleasure of working with the Hagan family at thier clinic and found it to be great. I got watch them care for the animals and they are truly caring, both DVM's are very smart and definitely know what they are doing. They are the only clinic I know that doesnt try to take all your money, if there is a cheaper way of doing something they will tell you. This clinic is truly the best. more

Best Health Care Provider for your Pet in the West! 2/27/2009

Dr. Frank Hagen not only is medically sound but he truly cares about all his patients. I was skeptical when his son Andy joined the practice. I didn't want anyone but Frank taking care of our pets. I was wrong. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Andy is great! He helped us through a tough time dealling with cancer in our Bernese Mtn. Dog Noel. He seemed to be half priest/councilor and half Dr. The front office is great at communicating with us. They go above and beyond every time. How do they remember all those pet's names? They are nice and easy to deal with. Their pricing is more than fair and they are well connected in the animal community. I have a call into Frank to discuss putting a hunting dog down. We love him but he is deaf and demanding... I trust them completely. Andy would probably try to cure Duke's deafness... I wish they worked on humans.... Pros: Caring more

WONDERFUL FAMILY PRACTICE 2/25/2009

They are the most wonderful, patient, compassionate doctors and staff. We brought our critically injured puppy to ESAC. They advised us that it was the worst case they have ever seen but were willing to help us save our puppy. Andy, the doctor, kept in touch and guided us through our puppy's recovery every step of the way. They went above and beyond to make our puppy the happy little guy he is today. He is still recovering today but without the Hagan Family and staff we would not have him with us today. I highly recommend their services. more
