Best

If you have some extra money and want to treat you and the wife out. This is the place. Great food great service. The best wine around.

We went to El Gaucho for Father's DAy and I was not impressed. First the waiter hovered over us like he was trying to push us along to leave. The bread arrived at our tabl...

For people with taste 6/5/2005

I have been going to El Gauchos since I was 15 or 16, now I am 22. People sometimes do not understand that a New York style restaurant is dark and gloomy, part of the ambiance. That's the point people!!! The service amazing, the wait staff knows our whole family by our last name. The wait staff has had experience over 10 years in some of the best restaurants in the Country. The food is great! Now the price, yes it is expensive, you should know the price range of a place before you go there, no complainers. I love this place always have for the past 7 years would recommend it to everyone. The dancing downstairs, is awesome, with great live music. The cigar room where you can purchase your own personal cigar box, now really where are you going to get all that in one place. Pros: Great Cuisine, Music, Service more

Top draw service and food 6/5/2005

I have had occasion to eat at El Guacho several times over the past decade and have yet to be disappointed. Let me however, tell you this one little story where they did fall short only to come out on top again. I held my 30th birthday in the Pampas Room. We had planned for 20 unfortunately 31 people showed up. Well service wound up being a little slow as they were under the impression we didn't intend to dine there. Nick the manager wound up compensating us for 7 meals and my bar tab roughly $1000. He then went a step further and sent out 5 more $200 vouchers to me and some of my guests. The funny thing is those of my guest's which hadn't ate there before thought everything was wonderful. Pros: Food, Service more

Simply Lavish 5/29/2005

We have gone to El Gaucho several times and have always enjoyed the food, etc. Last Mother's Day we took my mother and she said that it was fabulous! That is not a compliment that comes from my mother's mouth very often. The wait staff was marvelous and the service was great. The Banana Foster is the best! I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Banana Foster, Service more

Best of the Best 5/2/2005

worth the trip 3/10/2005

I flew out to seattle from new york city just to dine at this place. I was not disappointed. I have to say that the food was terrific, but the real star of the show was the service! I'm a true foody and I've dined at some of the finest places in the country and I have never had such fine service. It was well worth the price of the plane ticket. more

Great Experience 1/30/2005

I just took my girlfriend here for her birthday. It was the finest dining we have had in Seattle. We felt like royalty. Great service only topped by the incredible food. I definatley think it's a top 2 or 3 steakhouse in the PNW. Pros: Setting, Steak, Music Cons: Lighting more

Did not Meet Expectations 1/27/2005

We were not seated on time, and were not apologized to or even approached by the hostess. I expressed my opinion about wine, and cheese, and was rebuffed by the waiter, and wine captain - a no-no. Customer service was reprehensible for such a fine dining restaurant, and I have no intention of returning. Cons: Bad Service more

JOE IS THE BEST BARTENDER IN SEATTLE! 8/27/2004

Can't say enough about Joe!!!!!! El Gaucho does have the best of everything....even the bartender is the BEST! We are always taken care of the moment we walk in the door. Food arrives in seconds, even at the bar. It's like Joe can read your mind and know what you wnat before you even say it. Joe we LOVE you!!!!!! Kristina & Kerry Pros: Great drinks, Best Service more

Absolutely Amazing!!! 8/26/2004

Wow! The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Staff went out of their way to make our anniversary special. This is definitely the place to go to celebrate a special occasion. Order the baked potato as it is fluffed at your table with a beer cheese sauce. When my steak wasnt quite done how I liked it, they brought out a free appetizer to snack on while I waited. They also rolled back the tab for our dinner since the restaurant was celebrating its anniversary as well. What a special memory! Yes, its expensive, but definitely worth it for such an incredible evening. Well definitely be celebrating our anniversary there next year! Pros: Intimate atmosphere, Excellent service more

Let the meat speak for itself 8/9/2004

This was my first trip to the well-known meat aficianado location. All was good, ambience, service, drinks, etc. Then, came the food...highly recommend ordering the ceasar salad for the show and then your choice of meat of course. The problem with the food (and why I rated it 'average') was that everything was covered in way too much sauce, from the salad, to the ostrich (mushroom madeira sauce overkill) to the lobster. The meat was grand, but the sauce killed the whole experience for me and my date. Pros: ambience, service more

Old Times 6/3/2004

My father had his office right around the corner from the old El Gaucho, we spent many good times there, and the food then as now was wonderful. Its much like the restraurants of old, Rosilini's 410, 610, and lots of others that have now gone by the way side unfortunately. Pros: food is tasteful, portions are plenty, wait staff friendly Cons: , too crowded, too noisy more

Expectations 4/4/2004

I've been to El Gaucho many many times since they re-opened in Belltown. I was just there on Friday night with a large group (16) and was pleased overall, though several in the group were not happy with their steaks. Some comments were: tasteless, grisly, overwhelmed by butter sauce and charred. I have the salmon which was done perfectly and what a generous portion!. The salad 410 was really really good and I highly recommend it as were all the appetizers. (Wicked Shrimp, Crab Cakes and Oysters on the 1/2 shell). The service as usual was great. I really hope that the quality of steak served is declining because I really like coming to El Gaucho, even though it is an expensive evening. Pros: romantic, large portions, excellent service Cons: , can get noisy more

Suse 3/11/2004

The food was good but not exceptional. I have recieved equivilant service and food at The Outback! Plus it didn't cost me a days wages. I just can't justify that kind of money for just an okay evening. I expect more when I pay more. Pros: valet parking more

Yuuuuum 3/8/2004

El Gaucho is the place I go fo birthdays, or celebrations, but I rarely have the deniro to actually EAT! It's a rare treat, and I cherish the moments. The service is astounding. The food is fabulous. The dining room is beautiful. It's some place you simply have to experience. save your pennies and try this place. It's a goldmine. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: , Pricy more

Good meat 3/8/2004

Obviously a no-go for vegetarians, but the beef is exceptionally good. The service was impeccable...almost TOO good. They were happy to accommodate our birthday boy, pour an excellent cup of coffee, and worked hard to ensure that our table of four adults and an infant (yeah...can you believe it?) were completely satisfied: all the hallmarks of a fine restaurant. Sure the bill broke down to about $100 a head, but what do you expect? If you want cheap go to Denny's. Trust me...IT'S WORTH IT! Pros: Exquisite beef, Excellent service more

One of the best 2/24/2004

My experience was stellar. We were seated promptly even though it was busy for a Monday night, and our server was extremely attentive and courteous. My date and I started with a crab cocktail and a bleu cheese salad, and two glasses of wine recommended by the very personable wine steward. We then had the Chateaubriaugh, crisp asparagus and baked potatoes, which was prepared at our table, adding a touch of class and personality to the presentation. The food was spectacular! Between the main course and dessert, we were given a selection of fine cheese, dates and crackers, along with fruits and nuts in the shell (no peanuts). The dessert was wonderful, and to our surprise, free, as we were both celebrating birthdays. Final bill = $200 including tip, but the overall experience and food was well worth every penny! Pros: excellent service, great food/drinks, attention to detail more

Worth every penny 2/4/2004

This is the perfect place to impress a date! Its classy and elegant and even has live music and dancing to boot. The food was beautiful and is always finished with a complementary dish full of expensive cheeses, crackers, nuts and fruit. I only wish I could afford it more often. Pros: Beautiful venue, good service, dancing more

Swanky 10/30/2003

Swanky indeed. Need a steak that melts in your mouth? need a Caesar salad crsip and tangy? Need decadent Bananas Foster? Go here. Our waitress was approachable and friendly -- she knew what type of wine we might like even though we so vague about what we were in the mood for. The Complementary fruit and cheese course sealed the deal. Well done. Take a person to this place if you want to impress them. They do it all for you -- you just need to show up. Pros: atmosphere, steaks, service more

Tremendous Steaks 10/29/2003

I am from Chicago and I travel all over the contry so I get a chance to eat at a lot of different steakhouses. El Gaucho is right there in the top 5 in the county for me. I had the NY Strip (medium rare) and this baby was cooked to perfection, slighty charred on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside. It is not a cheap place but any steakhouse that serves prime steaks is not cheap. I can't wait to go back to Seattle so I can enjoy another steak at El Gaucho. Pros: Great Steaks, Awsome Atmosphere Cons: None more

  • In Short
Don't be fooled by the high school gym-like foyer--"swanky" best describes the 1950s supper-club scene that awaits. Inside, the dining room rises dramatically in three tiers and the lounge, all mirrors and light, glitters appealingly. All steaks are dry-aged Angus; the filet mignon, chateaubriand for two and baseball-cut top sirloin (a nearly round hunk of meat) are fully satisfying. Start with the wicked shrimp and don't skip the Caesar, which is entertainingly tossed tableside.
