Charming beyond expectations 11/27/2007

Stylish doesn?t even begin to describe this place. As you enter the old theater style double doors, you have no idea what to expect but then?you are transformed to old 1930 NY style supper club. This place truly is different from any other restaurant you have been too. The food and service is as amazing as the ambiance. Pros: great service, stylish and romantic Cons: None more

El Gaucho's is not what it used to be - very disappointing :( 10/31/2007

Having eaten several times at El Gaucho, we opted to stay at the Inn as well as have dinner at the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. We probably spent about $600 for one night with dinner and staying overnight. With regards to our dinner, the steak was overcooked (although it was so dark it was hard to see it!), and not as tender/juicy as I expected. We ordered Steak El Gaucho which comes with lobster medallions - these were forgotten altogether. We had a $95 barolo that tasted like a $15 bottle from Safeway. The Inn was okay - several irritating things though - sink plug didn't work, wireless internet didn't work, not enough creamer for the in room coffee etc. We will be trying somewhere else for special occasions in the future - maybe our expectations were too high - not any more! more

Exceeded Expectations 10/30/2007

This restaurant is impeccable. The valet service was prompt and created ease when I was running a few minutes behind schedule. The restaurant is larger inside then it seems from the entrance. The atmosphere is impressive with great attention to detail. The food was amazing! The scallops were perfectly cooked and the beef we ordered was out of this world! I went to El Gaucho for a work related event and am looking forward to returning for a romantic night out with my husband! I have already recommended it to several of my clients. Pros: Ambience, Valet Parking, Wonderful Food Cons: None more

Best Anniversary Restaurant 9/27/2007

My hubby and I went to El Gaucho for our 2 year anniversary. No presents, no extravagant plans...just a nice dinner at El Gaucho. It was amazing and surpassed our expectations. I almost leapt out of the booth to stomp out the fire when the server flambeed my skewered lamb. Apparently the carpet is flame retardent, so fire is thrown around regularly ;) It reminded me of a place where you would expect Frank Sinatra to come serenade you at any moment. Pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. more

Never seen better 8/23/2007

Are you kidding me?! This place is the best. I can't wait to bring clients here. I have never (and I dine out four nights a week) had service like this. These people care about what they are doing. Best night ever in a restaurant. more

My husband and I dined here and had a great experience. The food was good, I wasn't blown away by everything I ate, however the experience, and the intimate setting made up for it. Pros: Great Ambiance Cons: A little pricey more

great food, romantic ambience 6/2/2007

i've now been to el gaucho twice. the second time was after i had also been to morton's and metropolitan grill. both times at el gaucho were awesome. the first time, i got a peppered ny strip and a bearing strait crab leg, and sirloin tip appetizer. the second, filet mignon. both times, my wife and i got the caesar salad. the sirloin tips, ny strip, and filet were awesome. tons of juicy aged beef flavor. the crab leg was horrible i thought, but i didn't go there for the crab. it tasted like the crab was old and sedentary. it wasn't sweet or juicy. just bland and tough. maybe it was just over done. the caesar salad was great. they make the dressing and toss the salad in it right in front of you. romantic lighting and ambience. the second time, the music was a little loud, but that may have been because of where we were sitting compared to the first time. great wine selection. the first time i ordered a drink with a specific vodka (ketel one) and the second drink had something different (probably absolute). overall, it is a great dining experience and i would definitely dine there again. it didn't seem like it would be that good for more than 6 people. both times, we made reservations, and it didn't seem like we would have needed to either time. Pros: great food, nice ambience Cons: pricey more

best stake place in town 5/9/2007

We went to El-gaucho to celebrate our annivesary. Food was awesome, service was even better and bananas foster made at the table makes it complete. When we arrived, the table was not ready, but we were seated after 10 min of waiting, which is a totally opposite experience we had at Daniels. We also recommend to check out their Inn - it's great boutique hotel. Cons: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ more

it getting worse and worse 4/26/2007

Every time when we visited El-Gaucho it getting worse and worse. The last time was April 20, 2007 ? my husband?s Birthday. We choose El Gaucho and it was the Biggest Mistake. His Birthday was ruined. Mussels that we ordered smells like public restroom (I?m not joking) and filet mignon was bellow the average! So we are left very disappointed. more

Overpriced and Bland 1/2/2007

My husband and I wanted to go to a nice place for dinner the day before New Years to beat the crowds. We heard this place had good steak and decided to spend the $$$ for a special occasion. Our crab cakes were tasteless and mushy. The cut of my sword fish was poor and it had absolutely no flavor. My husband's steak was just OK and he said it didn't have much flavor. To my waitresses horror I didn't want to take the left overs home and had her throw 2/3rds of it away. The lobster potatoes only had a few pieces of lobster and again were completely tasteless. We spent $200 on a meal that had no flavor and we didn't even get salads or vegetables with our meals. The waitress gave us the fruit and cheese platter like it was a gift for the tasteless swordfish later to only find it that every tables gets them. I have had more exquisite meals costing $70 for two and we got salad, vegetables and dessert! Pros: Ambience Cons: You get nothing for the $$$$$ more

  • In Short
Don't be fooled by the high school gym-like foyer--"swanky" best describes the 1950s supper-club scene that awaits. Inside, the dining room rises dramatically in three tiers and the lounge, all mirrors and light, glitters appealingly. All steaks are dry-aged Angus; the filet mignon, chateaubriand for two and baseball-cut top sirloin (a nearly round hunk of meat) are fully satisfying. Start with the wicked shrimp and don't skip the Caesar, which is entertainingly tossed tableside.
