Best

If you have some extra money and want to treat you and the wife out. This is the place. Great food great service. The best wine around.

We went to El Gaucho for Father's DAy and I was not impressed. First the waiter hovered over us like he was trying to push us along to leave. The bread arrived at our tabl...

A Classic 8/4/2002

Outstanding Caesar Salad, tender and mouth-watering steak, bread and professional service. Menu is a steak-lover's delight - an incredible selection! If you can, you must save room for the desserts. Interior is somewhat dark, but it reminds a person of the 50s style upscale restaurant. more

Argentina's illegitimate child! 8/1/2002

Why call el Gaucho a restaurant that does not have a single Argentine cut? The food is average and the wine is incredibly overpriced - $1200 for a 1982 Bordeaux. Seattle is still lacking a great steakhouse - listening Smith and Wollenski?? more

Fabulous 8/1/2002

I am not usually a steak eater at all. But, I promised to take my steak loving boyfriend to a nice restaurant in Seattle that was known to serve a good steak. El Gaucho's has won me over! I can't wait to go back and have another one of their wonderful steaks! We were late for our reservation, so they sat us in the bar by the piano. We still had excellent service and an incredible dinner! Two big thumbs up! Pros: Great steaks, people watching, ambience Cons: a bit expensive more

the best 7/29/2002

Great Steak and tremendous drinks. Very comfortable atmosphere. Gives you the feeling you have a million dollars sitiing in your bank account without a bill that requires it. Five star all the way! Pros: Atmosphere, Value, Great Food Cons: Parking more

Gaucho! 7/22/2002

Oh my, such noisy place to dine. The volume in the dining room is almost always defining. The dishes are very good, very poor atmosphere for comfortable dining here. Cons: Noisy, Noisy, Noisy more

Yuppie night out in Belltown 7/22/2002

Very shiek. If you want to impress some out of town friend and like the hip (almost yuppie) Belltown district, then El Goucho is a great candidate. Bring the Benjamins. To get the most out of your night, spurlge & drop some cash. - D. Trinh Pros: Ambience, Atmosphere, Great area Cons: Expensive more

Seattle's Best Steak 7/21/2002

El Gaucho is what more restaurants should use as a benchmark for high quality. From the moment you arrive you know you're in the right place. Knowledgable Waitstaff, fantastic food & a comfortable atmosphere make this the perfect spot for those evening's you want everything to go right. Pros: Waitstaff, Quality food, Ritzy more

Over-rated 7/21/2002

The space feels like a renovated gymnasium, not intimate at all. The food did not meet my expectaions. The baseball steak was flavorfull, but I spent the better part of the evening chewing it. The service as expected was very good and the presentation professional. The overall impression I left with was that it was not a great value; I expected more. Pros: service, dignified atmosphere, food is above average Cons: high prices, not intimate, pretentious more

Am I wealthy enough . . . 7/16/2002

. . . to rate this? It's so well known it shouldn't be necessary, but I'll give you the semi blue collar perspective. OK, let's get right to it; money. If you didn't know, with champagne and wine and flaming deserts, plan on dropping $500 for four. But, also plan on getting your money's worth for this kind of thing, because everything was top shelf. Big meaty helpings of giant veal chops helped me sign the credit card with a smile. Once a year type stuff for me, but I've never regretted putting on the ritz here, and it really wows the peanut gallery. Pros: food, service, the place Cons: dollar bills needed more

Amazing 7/11/2002

Went for the first time and did not know what to expect. The atomsphere itself was incredible. The service was impressive and very precise with every dish they present. The tableside caeser salad was amazing, my filet was cooked to perfection. The banana foster was sooo yummy. Carmalized brown suger over vanilla ice cream, and bananas. Martinis was just superb! Atomsphere, service, and the food was all worth it! Definately coming back! Pros: drinks, food, service Cons: expensive more

Excellent 7/1/2002

A wonderful escape from the "real world". It is the closest to bringing to life a fantasy "movie star" life style. Excellent staff, delicious food and fabulous drinks. more

Something's Fishy... 5/26/2002

about El Gaucho. Never experienced such poor service in such a pricey atmosphere. After waiting over 30 minutes to be seated (with a reservation), we were made to sit in a dark and smelly area where we only saw our rude waiter every 15 minutes. I complained to one of the waiters on the way out who seemed to care and he told me that the restaurants owners send great reviews to these websites every week so that people will come in. Bad value, and as a Brazilian myself who has lived in Rio Grande do Sul, I was embarrassed. more

  • In Short
Don't be fooled by the high school gym-like foyer--"swanky" best describes the 1950s supper-club scene that awaits. Inside, the dining room rises dramatically in three tiers and the lounge, all mirrors and light, glitters appealingly. All steaks are dry-aged Angus; the filet mignon, chateaubriand for two and baseball-cut top sirloin (a nearly round hunk of meat) are fully satisfying. Start with the wicked shrimp and don't skip the Caesar, which is entertainingly tossed tableside.
