Caring Service 2/7/2010

I never thought I would be in this situation but I was. I was very scared because I didn't know what to do. I had gone to planned parenthood but it was very crowed and the wait was long. I knew I have to turn to another place for help. I did some online research and I found early options. They were very nice and patient with me over the phone. When I arrived for the appointment, they asked to to come back later because there was a slight delay. I didn't understand why they didn't let me stay in the waiting room with many others. Then I realize it wasn't good for me emotionally to sit there with so many other people and it was good for me to get some fresh air. The staff called me as soon as they are ready. I went back immediately. I had to go to the appointment by myself because my partner did not want to be involved. It was very difficult for me to do this by myself. The staff made sure I was feeling fine as soon as I stepped in. They explained everything to me as we were doing some preparation. But somehow I got very emotional while talking to the nurse. Somehow after speaking with the doctor and the nurse, it clam me down. It was like magic, they knew how to make me feel better and to continue with the procedure. I definitely would recommend this place to any female out there who is looking for termination for pregancy. This place definitely makes you feel comfortable and assist you all the way. more

Kind, gentle, caring and professional. 2/2/2010

When I found out I was pregnant I was scared. I didn't know where to turn. I didn't have anyone that I could turn to. I was afraid to tell anyone. My boyfriend abandoned me once I told him I was pregnant. He said he didn't want any part of the situation. \r \r I searched online and found Early Options. I read every page of their website and saw that they had a procedure that I never saw before. A Aspiration abortion. Once I read the details of what it was, I decided that's the way I wanted to go. I called the office and the lady on the phone was so pleasent. She made me feel so safe and secure. The lady set me up for my appointment. The day I went in for my appointment was scary. I didn't have anyone to go with me. Everyone in the office was so loving and caring. The assistant stayed with me the entire time. When the doctor came in to actually preform the procedure, the assistant offered to hold my hand and explained every step to me. They offered me so much information. Things that I never knew. In 5 minutes it was over. I couldn't believe how fast it was. I was out out of the office and feeling fine within 10 minutes\r \r I recommend to any woman who finds herself pregnant and wants or needs to end it, to turn to Early Options. The Aspiration precedure is the best way to go. The staff is very understanding, caring and not judgemental. They are very tender to your situation and support the decision you make. The office is very discret about what service they offer. Privacy is very important and they offer that to the highest level. more

a relief 2/2/2010

i had originally gone to a planned parenthood and was overwhelmed by the chaotic waiting room and abrupt manner of the receptionist on the phone. i happened to call early options next, and it was a world of difference. the receptionist was very kind and very calmly told me about their office. it sounded like i would be taken care of, and in my anxious state that's exactly what i needed, so i made an appointment and they had availability just 2 days after i called. i am a graduate student so i qualified for their student discount. on the day of the appointment my boyfriend and i arrived and waited in the waiting room for a few minutes. after taking the pregnancy test we waited more, perhaps half an hour past our appointment time. we were led inside a comfortable room (did not look like a cold, unwelcome hospital room) where one of the staff brought me tea before the doctor came in and talked me through everything. she made sure i understood everything and answered all my questions. they then found out my blood type and took down more info. the actual aspiration procedure was very quick. from the time they finished the initial sonogram to the post-procedure sonogram, no more than 5 minutes passed. there were a couple moments of sharp pain, and some feelings of pressure, but it was way better and quicker than i thought it would be. i had some heavy cramps for about a minute, then they subsided to minor cramps. within a few minutes i was ready to leave. overall i was there 2 hours (the only con - i was expecting an hour or hour and a half, but it's by no means as long a wait as i've heard planned parenthood can be). however, i don't think i've ever in my life had such a positive medical office experience!! it's definitely worth it to come to early options than other clinics because of their personal attention. they helped lessen the worry and anxiety of having an abortion. Pros: very caring staff, comfortable atmosphere, felt at ease Cons: waited a little longer than expected, but not by much more

First and Last Time 1/26/2010

I never thought I would ever be in this situation, but as it may, I was. I wasn't ready to be a mother and needed another option. Early Options made the best out of a horrible situation and the procedure (aspiration) was over before I even realized it began. They say most women feel cramping and pressure, but the only thing I felt was the heating pad on my abdomen and my partner holding my hand. The staff was very warm and explained everything in great detail. I am very thankful that this non-surgical procedure was even an option and all I had to take was Ibuprofen and a precautionary antibiotic to prevent infection. I highly recommend this office. Pros: Very professional and made me feel comfortable Cons: Waiting room music more

Very Pleased 11/22/2009

I was extremely nervous and optomistic with just the thought of having to do this but from the very start when i called the woman answered all of my questions. A week later arriving at the office the nurse who took care of me new i was nervous and tried to distract me which was a great thing. She explained everything to me and gave me plenty of time to ask questions. The doctor did exactly the same and it was great to meet the doctor before it took place. She as well explained to me what would be going on and gave me an opportunity to ask questions. During the procedure both the doctor and the nurse had regular conversation with me and tried to keep my mind off what was going on. It was quite uncomfortable but not painful. It went very quick and i was back to normal in about 10 min. I was shocked as to how well i was so soon after. The best thing is i was able to have a friend with me the entire time, which of course was comforting. I would recommend this to any one who was thinking of having an abortion. I didnt care how much i would have to pay as long as i was well taken care of and as long as it wasnt a clinic setting. It was well worth it. Thank you guys so much for making this a better experience for me. Pros: Nice Staff, patient and thorough when answering questions more

extremely helpful, caring and gentle 11/19/2009

Its run by women and the staff is entirely women - very very patient and kind and gentle women who strive to make the experience comforting and seek to ease the anxiety their patients may feel. They achieve this through their professional stafff and office space design as well. This is not a clinic but rather a very private doctor's office setting. I went through 100% process with my girlfriend - was at her side the whole way and the staff encouraged it, as long as we were both comfortable. Highly recommended. Pros: very professional and helpful more

It is worth going to Early Options! 11/17/2009

There are not enough words to begin to describe this experience. The wonderful staff that is not only extremely knowlegable and patient, but the fact that they are truly dedicated to each of their patients is indescribable. No one ever imagines they may be in the position of having to go through such a trying ordeal, but Early Options makes a seemingly devastating situation managable. The minute you pick up the phone to make the consultation and appointment, you are greeted with great care and kindness. When you arrive in person to the minute it is all over, the entire staff is understanding, professional, kind, and make you feel as comfortable (emotionally and physically) as possible. I had done a lot of research before deciding to come to Early Options and am forever greatful for how they handle their jobs. It is clear that they really care and are a huge support system for those going through such a difficult time. If I ever had a friend or family member go through something like this, I would not hesitate to recommend Early Options. If you are deciding where to go, Early Options is worth visiting and really seems to the answer to an extremely difficult situation. Pros: Amazing and very knowledgable staff, very accessible more

Great Staff 11/4/2009

From the minute i walked in the door the staff greeted me with smiles and made me feel very comfortable. I was so nervous that i was going to be in alot of pain, but let me tell you , the doctors give you pain meds and go so easy on you that all you feel during the procedure is like someone tugging on your uterus . weird feeling , but no pain. the nurse also talks to you the whole time n distracts you from whats going on. the whole thing lasted about 3 or 4 mins. but it went by soso fast. of course the experience itself would never be something great. but they make it as easy as possible n ease your worries. i would highlyyyyyy recommend easy options to anyone in the position i was in. Pros: very easy preocedure, no pain, wonderful staff Cons: none what so ever more

The Experience was Great 10/29/2009

I normally do not write my experiences but in this occassion I had to state my opinion. When i first got here i was scared because i never heard of a non surgical, and i was really thinking twice about doing this. But a child right at this moment would be very difficult for me, so i made up my mind. Everything that they said was informing confidential and true. Its a very quick procedure that's just like your normal pap smear. You rarely feel a thing! The nurse and the doctor give you as much information as need and you feel very comfortable and relaxed. They are awesome. If you have any doubt about abortions and you think its gonna be this BIG surgical procedure , think again and come here, they would have you feeling comfortable. I walked outta here in NO PAIN! Pros: Friendly and Fast more

friendly and knowledgeable staff 10/22/2009

I have experience in the medical field and have seen many clinics that perform similar procedures. By far, this clilnic is the best that I have come accross. The staff is very professional and very friendly. They go out of their way to make you feel as comfortable as possible. In addition to taking the time to provide information and answer any questions, they make the procedure itself as easy as possible and are very supportive. They welcome a partner, spouse, or friend to stay with you through the entire process, which many other clinics do not allow. This is a small clinic that shows that they really care---unlike many of the other options out there. This clinic is worth every penny and then some! What could have been horrible experience was surprisingly pleasant. Pros: all female staff more

Amazing staff & overall positive experience for a hard time 10/20/2009

In an extremely difficult and emotional time, I was blessed to have come across this all-woman clinic. Though a little more expensive then your average price quote, the price includes all of the medical tests (sonogram, medication, procedure etc) which I don't believe most doctors offices include. It was extremely professional, kind and easy considering the circumstances most are faced in this situation. You are thoroughly prepped and give plenty of time to ask questions and address concerns. The actual procedure (aspiration) is a really great option and it extremely manageable in terms of pain and discomfort. I was there a total of 1 hour. It was well worth every penny and I have nothing negative to say about the experience, which I doubt many others can say. Bring a friend or partner for support. Though some people don't feel the need to rest after, I did. I took the whole day to rest, relax and recover. Highly recommended. PS - after reading some of the suspicions re: fake postings, I will defend by saying I have never posted any reviews on Citysearch (though I'm a NYC resident) and decided to support Early Options with a positive review for 2 reasons 1) The nurse mentioned it would be greatly appreciated if I would add a review to Citysearch re: my experience and 2) I would support this clinic 100% due the experience I had. Just by making a phone call to Early Options you will get the vibe that this is a wonderful clinic. I had no referral here but went with my instinct....which I believe most woman do in this kind of situation. Pros: Friendly, comforting, knowledgable, woman staff Cons: Price more

Safe Haven 10/10/2009

The staff was very helpful to me on the phone as well as in person. This was a hard experience getting pregnant for the first time, let alone making the decision to move forward in abortion. When I arrived at the office, I was felt welcomed. They explained everything regarding the Early Options like Aspiration procedure which I underwent. They talked me through and made me feel assured and comfortable. I didn't know what to expect when I first got there. I also feared that I was going to be treated like a number or ashamed, but they really helped me feel comfortable and OK about the whole process. I truly thank the staff/doctor for all their help. For anyone making a tough decision like me, this is a place to go... more

highly recommended female providers 10/8/2009

This place came highly recommended to me at a very difficult time, but the staff are absolutely wonderful and they ease the experience and make you feel as comfortable as possible. I wish more females had access to great care, no matter the situation. Best of luck. more

Aspiration Procedure 9/24/2009

The aspiration procedure is the best out there. I would highly recommend it to any woman that is 11 weeks pregnant or less. It's quick, simple, no sharp tools and it only takes 3-4 minutes. I've had a surgical abortion before and it was a very traumatizing experience. The aspiarion felt more like a paps mear. Good Luck to everyone. Wish you the best! more

Clean - Private Office 9/24/2009

The staff at early options helped me through a really difficult time. Whne I stepped into tthe office I immediately felt a sense of calm come over me. The staff were caring and took time to explain all of my options. I did not feel like I was being judged or pressured. I was able to have my boyfriend with me while talking to the doctor and during the procedure. That made both of us feel better about the whole situation. Even after the procedure was over, the staff gave me plenty of time to rest until I was ready to leave. They didn't rush me out the door like some places would. That meant so much to me. I would highly recommend early options to anyone who is considering having an abortion. The office is clean and private, and the staff is compassionate and will make you feel at ease. more

From Doctor Joan, Medical Director 9/13/2009

I am the medical director and owner of Early Options. I wanted to respond to the one star reviews written by people who have never been to our office. They plant the idea of suspicion that our reviews are fraudulant. This has now motivated our patients to write 4 star reviews instead of 5, because they think people will not believe them. I felt that I needed to respond. \r \r The women and their partners who write these reviews are real people. We have never, and would never fraudulantly write comments on behalf of our patients. In fact it would be impossible, since we would need to generate an email address for each comment. Our patients are motivated to tell others about their experience at Early Options, because they can't believe how simple it can be to end an early pregnancy. \r \r I was first exposed to abortions as a doctor in 1995, as a 3rd year resident. I went to be trained at a ""reputable"" clinic, where I saw women being treated disrespectfully, women being put in rooms with other women all wearing paper gowns, women being encouraged to have a surgical procedure with scraping and be put to sleep when it could be done with noninvasive methods that don't have major complications. I saw that women's partners had to stay in the waiting room and were not allowed to participate. I saw that women were all scheduled to arrive at the same time, and on average spent 6-7 hours in the clinic, going through an assembly line process. I saw that women had to go through mandatory counseling, even though many did not want to talk about their decision, and just wanted to get it done. \r \r As I learned more, I discovered this high volume assembly line care is the norm at most clinics, and that this is how abortion care has been provided since the 1970's. As a family doctor, I thought there should be a better way. I believe that as women go through this difficult experience in their life, they should be treated with respect and given the most advanced, noninvasive medical care.\r \r At our office we have scheduled appointments, and recommend the nonsurgical Aspiration Procedure as the most safe and simple way to end early pregnancy. This procedure is completed in 3-5 minutes, usually involves about a minute of period-like cramping, has no major complications, and immediate recovery. The visit is private, all care is conducted in private examination rooms, and companions are welcome. You have a dedicated clinical assistant with you the entire time. The first thing that happens is you meet your woman doctor, and she discusses the procedure and answers any questions. The average time of a visit at our office is 1-2 hours. Our procedures are nonsurgical. You can eat normally before your visit, and resume your normal activities when you leave our office. \r \r Our staff and doctors love what they do and find it tremendously rewarding to provide women with quality medical care, especially when they are expcecting to have a difficult experience. This love of our work influences every detail of the care we provide women who call us or enter our office. As the founder of Early Options, I personally look at these reviews daily - I am immensely proud that our doctors and dedicated staff have created this environment for women to have such a positive experience where they feel cared for, and not punished or traumatized. I've been there myself, as have most women. \r \r In my opinion, the Early Options model is how all abortion should be provided - like any other high quality medical care. Why do women have to go through such an emotionally and physically traumatic process when there is such a simple way to end early pregnancy? I believe it is because abortion clinics were set up as a segregated model of care, and this segregation has allowed for substandard medical care. At Early Options, we have dared to establish a decent, caring, professional way for women and their companions to go through this difficult experience. \r more

A SPECIAL PLACE AT A DIFFICULT TIME 9/11/2009

I am a woman, like many, who never thought I would have to make this choice. I called Early Options and staff member Heather talked with me like a friend, in a caring way. I had so many questions and feelings, I called 3 times in one hour. Each time, Heather listened with care and answered my questions professionally. \r \r A week later I walked into the Early Option's waiting room and thought I was in the wrong place because it did not seem like a doctor's office, it seemed like the lobby of a spa. This soothing waiting room is what I needed as I entered with nervous feelings. The Staff was welcoming and their kindness eased my nerves. \r I waited just a few minutes before I was seen. \r \r I was not comfortable being a patient because I had not had a doctor's visit since I was 3 years old. The Early Options Doctor took her time with me and was understanding of my fears and nervousness. \r \r She performed an ultrasound and spoke openly with my boyfriend and me about my condition. I am no longer nervous about being a patient, because of her gentle & patient manner during the ultrasound and in conversation. She was not judgemental of my circumstance and talked with us about all of our choices. We chose the aspiration.\r \r During the 5 minute procedure, I had an outpouring of support from Staff Member Becky, the Doctor and my boyfriend. I am so grateful to Becky for her kindness and compassionate nature. She guided me with her knowing advice & my boyfriend was a familiar and loving presence. The doctor performed the procedure with gentle hands, mindful of my physical & emotional feelings at all times. I felt pain similar to my period cramps. \r \r Though I am new at being a patient, I have been around doctors all of my life because my mother and I both work in the medical profession. The Early Options Doctor was the most patient and caring I have ever met. Her care was exceptional. Now more comfortable with being a patient, I am currently looking for a Primary Doctor for routine care. I can only hope to find a Doctor and Staff like Early Options.\r \r \r \r Pros: SAFE CARING PRIVATE NONJUDGMENTAL INFORMED COMPASSIONATE more

5 Stars So Far - Still Have to Complete Procedure 9/9/2009

I live in the Midwest and refuse to go to any clinics where I could be harassed by protestors and have a photograph taken of myself or license plate only to show up on anti-abortion web sites. If you are not privileged enough (or insured) then you will have a difficult time finding a family medicine doc to perform this type of service for you. Those docs do not like to think of themselves as offering abortion services, so they are only offered to patients that they can trust to keep the procedure confidential so as not to taint the reputation of the medical facility or physician. I no longer have insurance since I lost my finance position a little over a year ago, but I refuse to go to a clinic and be treated like livestock. You can tell by the photos of the facilities and by the telephone etiquette the type of service you likely will receive at a clinic. I called First Options three times in two days and each person I spoke with treated me with respect and was patient answering all of my questions. I can have this procedure done in my city for $350 to $500 but I am going to spend $230 on a plane ticket, $100 on cab fares, and $600 for the procedure because my instincts tell me that I will be treated with respect and will have the ultimate privacy since I will not be going to a known clinic. I really don't have the ""extra"" money, but I am finding it so that I can have the safest experience possible. Also, most clinics offer vacuum aspiration, not manual aspiration which is apparently much safer. To the skeptics - the reason why a lot of us with positive comments know about the detailed procedures is because we have thoroughly researched something as important and delicate as this. I will again comment after my procedure which should take place is the next couple weeks as I am too early at the moment to make the appointment. Pros: Great Service Over the Phone Cons: None Yet more

If you can afford it, it's the BEST option! 9/1/2009

I too would give Early Options a 5 and would highly recommend it to others, but I want people to read this and thought it's more likely if I give it a 4 rating. We did a LOT of research on seeking an abortion and while Early Options was more expensive ($600 vs. $400 or even less at the clinics), we're so happy we chose it. This is an awful decision to make, and it's been extremely tough and emotional for both myself (i cried everyday for over a week) and my partner, but for us the timing was off and we decided to terminate. Then came the awful task of finding a place... I didn't trust my OB/GYN enough to call and ask, nor did I want to face any judgement or ""advice"" from friends, so I went online and did lots of research. I also called a few other places and asked a lot of questions. Planned Parenthood and Dr. Emily are great - on the phone they were really kind and helpful, but I wanted to have my partner there with me and I wanted privacy. I didn't want to sit in a waiting room with 10-40 other anxious women. Our appointment was at 1pm. We walked out at 2:40pm. Most of that time was spent talking to the doctor and nurse about the procedure and also about trying out a new form of birth control (we're going with the NuvaRing which they can give you an script for). You also need some time to give a urine sample, fill out paperwork and get a bloodtest (if you don't know your bloodtype.) The procedure itself was only 5 minutes long and yes, it is painful (feels like REALLY BAD cramps), but the pain was over within 60 seconds and again, the doctor and nurse were AMAZING - really kind, patient and all round amazing people. We didn't see one other person in there (i believe they stagger visits, so you're not sharing a waiting room) and my partner was sitting next to me the whole time, able to ask questions and then holding my hand during the procedure. They took us into the room very quickly when we got there, but we did wait for 10 minutes for the doctor to come in and then another 10 minutes for the nurse a bit later. I suppose that could be another con, but it seems pretty standard for doctor visits. I found that having a friend with you and/or reading material or something else to distract you is helpful. And yes, it's true what everyone else says about the office - it's clean, bright and very friendly-feeling. Our biggest fear was not being able to have a baby in the future, but from all the research i've done, aspiration is not invasive - because there's no scraping, it's totally safe!! The doctor reassured us of this (but it's also consistent with what i've read elsewhere). Afterwards, I was feeling fine - i even went for a jog later that day. They say that activity helps the cramping (which was VERY minimal even 2 minutes after the procedure!!) THANK YOU to everyone at Early Options!! We SO appreciated your kindness!! Best of luck to anyone else going through this ordeal - I know firsthand how hard it is, but I'm finally smiling again and very hopeful about my life and future. ;) Pros: AMAZING staff - from receptionist, to nurse, to doctor Cons: More expensive vs. other places more
