We waited 50 minutes for our appetizers and then another 40 min. for our entrees. Everyone got bread except for us. We had to ask twice to get some, even after we had been there well over an hour. We asked for something to chill the wine (4 times) and they brought an earthen jar with about 5 ice cubes in the bottom. When we asked for some more ice, they brought another 5 small cubes. Three of us had the filet ($27.00) which was 3 pieces of meat, each piece about 2 in. X 2 in. All of the food was delicious but the portions were small and the wait was inexcusable! This place so far exceeded my expectations that I'm still in shock. Exceptional attention to detail - in the food, service, atmosphere, etc. I can see why this place is so packed on the weekends...I went on a thursday and it was half full and very comfortable. This byob far exceeded my expectations. As noted, the flower-pot bread is fantastic. The amuse-bouche was also a nice touch - not typically expected at a restaurant in this price range. In terms of appitizers I wholeheartedly suggest both the squash soup and the orchetto (spelling?). Both were complex in flavor and impressive in taste. In terms of entrees, all four we tried at my table were excellent but the lamb was a total standout. In many ways, the sides are more impressive than the focus of the entrees. Each dish seemed to have intriguing and delicious sides. \r \r My only complaint: when we got there they tried to seat us at a horrible table. First of all it was located under a stairwell and tall people could not sit on one side. Also it was set for four and we had made a reservation for five. Once we convinced them to seat us elsewhere, I have no other complaints about the service.\r \r Django is definetly a standout BYOB in the city and should not be missed! We dined at Django on a Saturday night. To be expected the place was incredibly busy. We had a reservation, but we still had a 10 minute wait for our table. Once we finally sat, a server came to open our wine. My wine glass had food chunks, and clearly was not cleaned. From there, it took 30 minutes until we saw our server again! And she was a bit abrasive and did not take time to explain dishes that we had questions regarding ingredients, etc. She was clearly annoyed. The dishes came out in a timely fashion once we were able to place our order. The gnocchi was very good, and the goat cheese salad was good as well. I had the Bass for dinner, it was a fresh dish but limited in flavor. My husband had the steak, it was good, cooked perfectly, but very very small. We are avid diners among the BYOB circuit. Among the excellent offerings Philly has, Django is ranked fairly low on my list as one of my least favorite. more

This was amazing. We went on Valentines day. The menu was amazing, the food was delicious. Very seasonal so the menu always seems like it changes, but I think thats why we liked it. I was unbelievable happy with the food, the combinations read oddly, but taste amazing. BYOB is also amazing. Since you aren't paying for overpriced liquor the place is very very affordable. They have $30 price fix on Mondays i hear for three course, which is ridiculous for the food you get. I would be happy to pay more. It was a bit more since it was a special holiday menu, but we received 7 courses for $75 each. \r \r I read some previous reviews about people feeling like they were rushed out the door. We didnt experience this at all, even though we were in the best table in the house. The waitress were very nice and attentive. and we never felt rushed. \r \r SEATING HOWEVER IS TIGHT! Although when I arrived they didn't seat me there, we were at a very very very tight table with only about four inches if less inbetween our neighbors.\r But the table I reserved was open and obviously held. I informed the waitress that I had made a reservation months in advance for that table and I was immediately seated there. This was a great dining experience. The service was great. We were seated promptly and well taken care of. Dinner began with a duck amuse-bouche which was very delicious. Bread, served in little flower pots was also incredibly delicious. The entrees were accordingly appetizing and the dessert was fantastic. For the quality of food which you receive, the price is definitely affordable. They are even doing a restaurant-week type special on Monday nights this winter, so the price just gets better. Ambiance is the only area where they could improve, as it is currently a bit spartan and haphazard. Overall an amazing restaurant and definitely worth a look. Pros: Amazing Food more

This little restaurant is simply the best French Bistro in town! The service is always above par. The food is divine, and the atmosphere is cozy. I was very fearful after the restaurant changed owners but it is still as good as ever! If not better. Whenever I have people in from out of town I take them here and they have all raved about it! This place prepares food as if its prices were much higher than the just mid-20s for an entree. There's not a lot of choices on the menu but everything is so delicious that I honestly thought I could eat everything on the menu, even though I normally could not. Warm, friendly atmosphere. Last time we were there-Aug 2- somebody's sapphire fell out of their bracelet and most everybody stopped eating to help find it- we did.\r Funky yet gourmet. You won't be disappointed, and the desserts we got were as good as the other stuff. I went with high expectations [I had heard so much about it] and I was NOT disappointed. The food here is just exceptional. I cant remember the last time I went to a restaurant and everything I ordered tasted so good. The service is very friendly and 'uncomplicated' which is how i like it. The ambience is cozy and we went on a sunday, so it wasn't that crowded, which was nice. It seems like the chef takes great pride in his/her creations and the food presentation is attractive. What I liked most about the menu was that ONE dish is actually multiple creations arranged on one plate. And they go so well with each other. We had the escargot and the crab cake for appetizers...awesome! I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection and my wife had the Duck. Both were exceptional. The Chocoalate Almond Terrine was the perfect ending. Remember to take a very good bottle of wine with you, because the food commands it. Enjoy! Pros: The food. Isn't that what it is all about? We would not go back. The 4 of us arrived 15 minutes late for a Saturday night reservation. We even called the restaurant to let them know we were running a little late, were told ?not to worry ? the table is yours until 9:30?. Our table was not yet ready when we arrived. We waited about 5 ?10 minutes to have it cleared. We ordered our appetizers and dinner promptly. The appetizers we served in a reasonable amount of time, but the dinner took at least another 45 minutes to be served. Less than ? hour after being served dinner, we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, and that we would have to take it ?to go? as another party was waiting for our table. We were speechless. Our friend, a physician, who made the reservation and suggested Django, said very politely to the server, that the kitchen was exceptionally slow and was the cause for the delay. They apologized and gave us ?dessert to go?. While the meal was overall very good, but on the funky side, my husband could not eat his ? the salmon he ordered was raw, which was not at all what he was expecting. They overbooked and were understaffed in the kitchen, causing a line of people waiting at the door. If you plan to visit Django, be prepared to wait a long time for your meal, and be asked to leave before you are ready. Maybe a weekday would be a better choice. The food really is extremely well done and worth a try when they are not so busy. I would also recommend to the owners that if the kitchen is backed up, admit it, and don?t ask your patrons to leave their tables. It is shameful. I ate at Django this weekend on the suggestion of a friend and found the flavors to be overwhelming and conflicting. Adding to this lack of subtlety, some of the food was overcooked (the gnocchi particularly). The presentation was pretentious without being attractive. Finally, we had a 7:30 reservation, were seated about 7:45, and finished our meal after 10 pm because of the extreme slowness of the kitchen (waiting long periods between courses without apology from the generally uninterested staff). Some of our meals had clearly been kept warm in back. To add insult to this injury, two minutes after our check dropped we were asked to leave with the clear suggestion that we'd overstayed our welcome. We were shocked at this and I'd discourage anyone from this restaurant who expects good food or a pleasant dining experience. more

Though opinions may invariably differ on a restaurants merit, let it never be said of Django that the fare is not reasonably priced: three courses for $30. With respect to the merits, I enjoyed a soothing and satisfying gustatory experience at Django, and I did not even particularly relish the main course or cheese plate. The goat cheese gnocchi, however, were exquisite. The gnocchi were followed by a scallop dish and cheese plate, which, though artful in appearance, failed to measure up to the standard set by the first course. Nevertheless, the service was excellent, and my date and I had a lovely evening. If you go as a party of two, I recommend the table closest to the front window adjacent to the wall. Gosh, dinner was more than lovely, with ""switching plates"" everyone loved everyones food. who cares about the hype? what is hype anyways? people pretending to be something/someone because they are no one, right? we went there coz we heard the food was awesome from down to earth people and it was exactly that. Only complaint: we waited half an hour for our table and one girl(waitress) wasnt very polite about it which was embarressing to our hosts. the parmesan bread and lemon butter at Southwark, a couple of blocks down, is better though. i would imagine they'd come up with something more complex at Django (hint hint) like an exotic butter flavor to spice things up. in reg to portions... i couldnt finish mine, then again i am a size 0 and not 200 pounds like the people who just love to pig out and leave hungry... are you kidding me? the portions are more than perfect and a healthy size. by the way the size 6/8 girl in front of me couldnt even finish hers not even to mention my fiancee.....\r conclusion: perfect Pros: Romantic, cute melt in your mouth chicken.... Reading all of the previous reviews on this website, I was prepared to be disappointed. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the waitress brought out octopus appetizers on the house. The menu was extremely unique and the combinations of flavors were amazing yet unimaginable. I had the diver scallops with lobster curry and spiced porridge. A strange combination, but simply delicious! I recommend this place to anyone who likes to try new food and would definitely go back myself! Pros: ambience, bread, food Cons: small portions more

Surprising Indian flavors electrify seared tuna. Rare (juicy, not bloody) lamb chops arrive on a long rectangular plate next to the most upscale ball of fried cheese this side of Camembert. Speaking of, while cheese plates tend to be European tourism commercials, Django's makes room for several American knockouts. Until Sikora whips out a Saturday-only tasting menu, don't drive yourself nuts trying to get a weekend table. Weeknight reservations are usually available on very short notice. I usually don't bother to post positive reviews. I'm always cautious about places that are this hyped, but I must say I was impressed. I expected small portions but left very full. I started with a complimentary appetizer bite of crabcake with caviar, then moved on to this delicious bread of which they offered to bring a second serving. My app was a fantastic goatcheese gnocci with mushrooms that was so exquisitely full of flavor, I savored every bite. My entree was the striped bass, which was prepared well with a balance of great flavor. Finally, we split a dessert of mint chocolate profitiroles, which was such a great topper to just a great experience. Not cheap but worth the bucks. This may be my favorite restaurant in Philly!
