What a cute little place and the food is amamzing! A great date place or place to eat with the girls! You at least need to try it! Pros: Everything Cons: can't think of on...

Worst

Djangos left much to be desired. Food was adequate and service was average. We would not go back. There are too many wonderful restaurants to waste one's time in an establishment ...

Excellent in Every Way 12/22/2005

Dinner at Django was a relaxing and rewarding experience. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. The menu was not lengthy but had excellent variety. The appetizer and dinner was a good size for sharing. The carmelized scallop appetizer offered 11 small, succulent scallops. The special of the night, a brazed pork served in a bowl with rice, veggies, chicken bits and oysters, melted in your mouth. For dessert the goat cheese cheesecake was very flavorful and just the right size to end the meal. The atmosphere is good for conversation. A totally satisfying experience. more

Well, it wasn't Chilis, but what is? 11/14/2005

Had dinner late on a busy Friday night From the moment I was greeted by the first lovely server, to when I finally had to leave, the service and food was interesting, and excellent. But before I left, I did make my next reservation! more

terrific! 11/10/2005

I was glad I finally had dinner at Django. We were seated promptly. The staff was friendly and unobstrusive. The food was terrific! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Somebody commented that the servings were too small. On the contrary, they were quite hefty. For the kind of food and service, I thought the price was quite a steal. If it were easier to get a reservation, my friends and I would dine here every week. Pros: delicious, inexpensive, pleasant Cons: reservation more

What is the fuss about? 11/6/2005

After hearing raves from people who'd eaten at Django, I decided it was time to treat myself to the experience of eating there. I left wondering what all the fuss is about. Who would ever have thought that middle European could get people so ecstatic? Nothing that I ate even approached 'sublime.' The portions were insultingly small. If people are clamoring to eat here, it's only because they've fallen for the hype. Once they've actually eaten the food, they're too embarrassed to admit that they don't like it, for fear of seeming not to get it. Please, I've had better food at Chilli's. Pros: decor, service Cons: food, portions, hype more

Love it! Love it! 7/13/2005

This restaurant is simply one of the best in philly. The food is delicious, it never disappoints! I try to take everyone here when they come to town to visit (if I can get a reservation). Definitely worth the month wait to get in. The menu is eclectic and always interesting and tasty. Pros: unique menu, BYO!, charming Cons: hard to get reservati, difficult parking more

Why wait a month but 2 weeks is worth it. 6/6/2005

The space is small but cozy. The portions were small but really Philly, do we need to eat that much... Ordered the Warm Salad, Salmon and then the Hazelnut Madeline Cakes with coffee ice cream, SO GOOD. Everything was great. My food felt precious to me with how they presented it. Our waitress over hear me talk about my friends birthday and they surprised the both of us with a candle on his desert plate. Thanks for covering me, guys! :) We unfortunate got stuck sitting next to a guy that would not shut up about his work and money. I was there to enjoy a quite celebratory meal not to hear about a stock portfolio. Pros: Service, Cozy Cons: On the pricey side, Cozy more

Well Worth The Wait 5/28/2005

I will keep this short and simple; DJANGO is well worth the wait. My fiancé and I were skeptical that this BYOB would live up to all its hype. Well, it did and much, much more. Even though it took a month to get a reservation, we are already planning our return, and spreading the word that this BYOB is truly the city's best Pros: BYOB, Excellent menu, Great wait staff Cons: A bit pricey more

best 5/10/2005

favorite restaurant of all time ever. i'm told that the review needs to be ten words or more, so i'm writing this sentence to fill space. more

Just the best. 5/1/2005

They were late seating us for our reservation, but were incredibly apologetic, saying that it rarely happens there (and I truly believe them). They brought us a complementary appetizer on seating us, along with the standard amuse bouche. It may have helped that we sent our half-finished bottle of prosecco to the kitchen when we moved on to wine. That chef deserved every drop. Our meal was incredible; most assuredly the best I've ever had. The choices were varied and not too weird, but definitely exotic. From start to finish, a fabulous experience--especially the wait staff. They are smart, cool, and gracious. I loved the entire experience. It actually lived up to reputation 100%. Pros: waitstaff, BYOB more

CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK AGAIN! 4/20/2005

Well, after all the hype..what a fantastic dining experience! We had a party of six so as far as it being too noisy..we were probably the majority of that noise. We all agreed..the selection is pleasingly wide, the wait staff friendly and the cheese platter is an absolute must! (we ordered 2!!) The place is small and inviting. We were told that it is pricey but $120 a couple was well worth the quality of the food and 4 of the 6 of us had dessert. We read that the portions were small but we all felt they were just perfect. You leave feeling very satisfied but not stuffed. We ate veal ""sweet breads"" which we were told is the thyroid gland (delicious!!) and crab, goat cheese gnocchi, veal with bacon apple chutney. All of our plates were wiped clean with the fresh baked bread out of a flower pot. Pros: food selection, BYO, fun atmosphere Cons: not enough butter more

Not Sure What the Buzz is About... 4/17/2005

I recently dined at Django, and was not impressed. The prices were high for the amount and quality of food that was given. The restaurant was very loud and cramped. I would not go back, and do not think this is one of the Top Restaurants in Philly. The service was wonderful, but it did not make up for the food or pricing. I've been to several other BYOBs that have better food, ambience and pricing. Me and my husband both left hungry after spending over $100. Pros: Service Cons: Cramped, Expensive, Overrated more

We love Django!!!!!!!!! 4/14/2005

We have been twice in the past year and this last visit on april 8th was a 10 for us. Fresh, seasonal ingredients cooked with the thought and preparation that french food entails. Yes the portions are on the small side, but this is not fast food with piles of potatoes to stuff you - this is quality fine food. We had two apps, two entrees and a must the artisinal cheese plate(which is plenty for two)with one bottle of pellegrino and the total with tax was $93. Divide that by the 6 portions and thats only $15 a peice. And you can bring your own wine to add to the savings. A defenite tr for the south street area!! Pros: byob, good value, cheese plate Cons: tiny tables, parking, long wait for resv. more

You better enjoy French Cuisine 2/24/2005

I have seen Django several times on this list rated as one of the best BYOs in the city. I really can't say what all the fuss is about. Maybe I am just not a fan of French food, but the portions were small, odd, and expensive. If you've never had French food before, I wouldn't recommend Django as a place to start. Its not a bad reasturant, by any means. It just caters to a certain taste. more

OVERATED #2!!! 2/17/2005

I must agree when I read some of the negative reviews I was critical of them because most reviews were over the top. I'm not saying it was not good, but it's not even close to some of the other BYOB's we have been to. First of all $20 - $30. for a three course meal is not even close. Figure to spend around $55. including tip. The service is ok. The bread in the flower pot is different but the bread is average. The cheese plate...please what are most of the people thinking that raved about it. I can get better cheese at Trader Joes and add a few nuts and fruit. I had to speed dial one month before to get a reservation??? It's not worth the trouble. Pros: BYOB, BYOB, BYOB Cons: Overated, Over Priced more

Don't Come Hungry 1/25/2005

The average price of a 3 course dinner is well above the 21-30 range listed on citysearch. No entrees below 24 and you NEED a first course and lots of pots of bread to not leave starving. Also, there is only one entree (no first courses) for vegetarians (empanadas with bean curd and roasted vegetables) but don't think this is going to give you a price break. Definitely not worth the three week wait for a Tuesday reservation! more

OVERRATED!!! 1/10/2005

I have been here about half a dozen times over the past year or two....and the place has gone from ""can't wait to get in"" to ""overrated give me a break trying to get a reservation 30 days in advance"". The food has gone a bit downhill, maybe trying too hard to live up to it's reputation of combining flavors. Try many of the other French BYOB's if you want better value, service, and the ability to call a few days in advance for a Friday night dinner. more

Not worth the price and the wait 8/17/2004

Dishes have an interesting combination of flavors but tend to be a bit bland. Stay away if you are a vegetarian as the options are very limited and unimpressive. The fish could be good, but I wouldn't know.... Pros: cute decor Cons: , pricey more

It's all that! 6/13/2004

The food is exquisite. Layers of flavors in each creatively-prepared dish. Yes, it's noisy, but the service is friendly and very competent. A great value, considering the quality of the food: we spent $100, including the tip, for two appetizers, two entrees, and the wonderful cheese plate. Pros: Food quality, Service, Value more

UNBELIEVEABLE VALUE 4/3/2004

Yes, it's small; yes, it can be noisy; yes, it's BYOB.......BUT the food is as good or better than just about anywhere on Restaurant Row (Walnut Street) and when two people can order a full dinner (including desserts for each) and the bill (including tip) just touches $100 I highly recommend the place. Pros: food, service more

Fantastic 3/10/2004

This is at least our 8th visit and its still as fantastic as the first time we went. Its one of the best restaurants in Philly. Djangos menu changes monthly and every time weve been there the only problem is trying to decide what to have these are the kind of problems to have in life! Both appetizers, one a goat cheese gnocchi, the other a venison carpaccio, were excellent. The trout entree was very good and the Bison with a light cabbage garnish was excellent. How a restaurant this tiny can have such an extensive and varied menu (about 10 appetizers and maybe as many entrees) is hard to fathom. We shared a fantastic dessert from the also-extensive dessert menu. For a weekend table you must call a month (to the day) in advance. For the above, before tip, the bill came to $79.00 Pros: Menu changes monthly, Aimee - the owner, BYOB Cons: Are none ! more
