Some salons in New York have the ability to make you feel less-than from the second you call for an appointment, DEX is NOT that sort of place. Raven, the receptionist is very friendly and very willing to work to schedule an appointment. Furthermore- they have, hands-down, the most talented staff in the city. Nina is the best colorist I've had yet in the city. My color is natural and even impressed my mother, who never likes anything un-natural I do to my hair. The pricing is fair and most importantly the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, at least three staff members complimented me before Nina even rinsed my hair...not to mention the decor is tasteful and well thought out. Ladies, if you are looking for that stylist that listens to what you want and gives you real results look no further! Scott is wonderful. He asked me what I wanted, took his time and did a fabulous cut... bonus, he is so soothing and professional you just don't want to leave his chair. He cut just the right amount (I have long hair and am always scared to go for trims, but I TRUST Scott to cut only what he needs to). I have been looking for a stylist this good for years and a now I've found him. He is a secret I just have to share. Put yourself in his hands and you won't regret it. My sister recommended Dex New York to me and I am so glad she did. I went to get my hair done and it was exactly what I wanted. They know exactly what will make you look great and they talk to you about it. The staff is so friendly. Scott did my hair and I have to tell you it was one the best hair cuts of my life. I was walking past Dex New York and I decided to stop in. The shop windows were pretty and I was interested to see what was inside. When I got inside some one greeted me. It was a very friendly environment. I asked what they did here and she explained that they do makeup and hair. She showed me some of their products and I loved all the different colors. I also liked the fact that the product names were named after New York and Brooklyn street names. I thought that was very unique. They had a very clean work environment and it was very elegant. My best friend recommended that I try out Dex New York to get my Makeup done. She said that the makeup was wonderful, that they had so many beautiful shades and colors. When I went everyone was so nice to me and they treated me like they knew me for years. Cataling did my makeup and we worked together to find the perfect shades for me. There were so many different options but we were able to pick colors that would work best with me. I have to say that after she was done I looked very beautiful. It wasn't a lot of makeup like when you see women in the street with an over dose of makeup on. It was the perfect amount and it brought out my natural beauty. The studio was perfect. It was like one of those rooms where all the models go before a fashion show. I felt very good about myself and Cataling and I talked the whole time. The whole place is very friendly and while she was doing my makeup people would come in and say how nice I looked. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice place to get their makeup done and not some stuffy place. It has a nice environment, music is playing and when your waiting they have a nice couch to sit on and read magazines. They also ask if you would like anything to drink. Dex is also near Madison Square Garden and Macy's. You can go shopping when your done or before and then go out and hang with your friends. I am so glad that my friend recommended this place to me. Now when ever I feel like I need a touch up or just feel like looking nice or I need to go somewhere like a wedding I know the perfect place to go. more

All my life I have struggled with my fine, curly hair that becomes insane in humidity. And then I discovered Naomi (pronounced NO-MEE) at DEX. He began with several Brazilian deep conditioning treatments to make my hair healthy and ready for the ultimate: Moroccan straightening, which he considers safer and more gentle for both of us. This process also does not interfere with coloring or highlighting. The conditioning had already helped tame my unruly hair quite a bit but the Moroccan method literally transformed not only my hair but my self-image. My hair is now silky smooth all the time. My frustrating frizz has been tranquilized. I no longer fret about how I look. Thanks to Naomi's caring touch and amazing skill, I feel like a new woman. When I moved to new York I was excited for the move, but the idea of finding a new stylist and starting from scratch was daunting!! I was mentally prepared to try many different stylists and sport what I anticipated to be many awful hairstyles, but then I found Scott Wasserman. After doing my research and reading all of the reviews, I found Scott in a funky little salon in the east village, and we were a perfect match from day one. For the first time EVER I found a stylist who understood that I wanted manageable style while maintaining my length. I have and will continue to follow Scott where ever he goes. Scott recently turned me on to a straightening process that is not as harsh as the Japanese, but is more effective than the Brazilian and it has truly changed my life. I have recommended Scott to practically everyone I know and many of my friends and their family have become Scott?s clients. As much as I would love to take credit for that, all of the credit is attributed to Scott and his work. His techniques, personality and end results are why people keep coming back for more. What I like so much about Dex Studios is that they manage to make you feel extra special in a high glamour environment while ensuring that the atmosphere isn't intimidating. I came to Dex for Scott, because in addition to doing amazing cuts and color, he is kind, really listens & understands your concerns and at the same time seems to know inately what will look great on you - a sensitivity that is often rare, but makes such a huge difference if you can find it in a stylist. Everyone I met at Dex shared these qualities with Scott and it seems to be what Dex is all about. They bring the same professional care, eye for detail. and sensitivity whether catering to their celebritiy and beauty biz clients or to the ""every day"" New Yorker. This was the first time I have ever followed a stylist and I am so glad I did. Scott is the best! He has an artist?s eye when it comes to color and a sculptor?s touch when it comes to cuts. Overall everyone at the salon is helpful and friendly. You never feel rushed nor will you be kept waiting. Scott is amazing! This is my first time posting a review but, I had to spread the word about Scott. I have long hair and had no idea that someone could cut my hair to look long,bouncy, and flowing, as if I stepped out of a magazine. Scott makes you feel like you just stepped out of the cover of a magazine. After Scott cut my hair, I received so many compliments. I was out of town and went somewhere else for a trim and it did not look nearly as good as when Scott worked his magic. My Sisters even commented on how my hair did not look nearly as good as when Scott cut it. I searched for him and found him at DEX. I will never let anyone else cut my hair. I started going to Scott after a series of bad haircuts. I was very close to shaving my head, when my sister suggested trying her guy - Scott. He was able to correct everything that was wrong. The haircut was so good that I never went back to my old stylist of 6 years, and I've been going to Scott eversince. I've been working down the block from Dex NY for over a year but never went in...I wanted something different, something stylish and I thought of Dex..from the second I walked in the door and met Scott, he was a sweetheart. I've gotten my hair colored and cut at DEX-NY on many occasions, and every single time, I have been more than happy with the end-results. I have had my hair blonde, medium brown, and even gone to the darkest shade of Brown ( I like to change my haircolor alot....), and when I needed them to lighten my hair from almost black, to a medium brown with highlights, the colorists were so experienced and so attentive to my specified desire for the outcome i wanted to acheive. They used such a gentle lightening process that there was no damage to the integrity of my own hair, even though i wanted such a drastic change ( from almost black, to medium brown with highlights. I always walk out of their salon looking just like i wanted to look....they let you express to them, just what your vision for yourself is.and after careful consultation with you they deliver that look! The staff at DEX Salon treated me with so much kindness and friendliness; they offered me coffee, tea,.....and their waiting area is very relaxing and comfortable. I would definitely recommend that anyone looking for qualified stylists/colorists/make-up artists, head on over to this salon...........you will be more than satisfied with your very first trip.........HAVE FUN!!!!! I went to Dex NY after a friend of mine recommended it to me and I will never go anywhere else!!!!!! When I walked in, I was greeted by all who work there (they make you feel like a star)!! I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my hair but nothing definite until Scott took over - he colored my hair a beautiful chocolate brown with golden highlights, he gave me an amazing cut and more AMAZING than that was the MOROCCAN STRAIGHTENING TREATMENT that he put in my hair. My hair has never felt more beautiful, silky soft and shiny!!! I have gotten more compliments on my hair this past week than I ever have in my entire life. I love the way my hair feels so much, that I will be returning to Scott every three months to get my MOROCCAN (along with every other amazing service DEX and Scott offer)!!! Scott was a breath of fresh air! I truly was taken back by the service and compassion that was displayed onto me. I truly LOVE my hair!!!! The color is finally right. All I said was make my skin tone and eyes pop. Presto the professional emerged, and Scott made me look better then I imagined. Thank you Scott. Dex is a very modern take on comfort and it is far from the stuffy salon one would imagine in the heart of Manhattan. I went to Dex a few months ago when I was feeling extra ready for a big change. I've never really deviated much from my standard hairstyle, other than varying the length a little. This time, I don't know what it was, but I knew I was going for all out change. And I have to say that it was totally worth the risk with this place! Everything everyone's said about the great customer service and extra attention is 100% correct. The people were fabulous and the place is really cool, given that its also a modelling studio. But the best part was definitely Naomi. He listened to every question or idea I had, was so excited when I said to him I wanted big change, and really knew what he was doing. He gave me a look I would've never imagined for myself, despite being the one to suggest the sweeping bangs and highlights. It's completely chic, I'm still consistently getting compliments on my new hair and its been 2 months now! I love it. I'm SO going back. I have been a devoted follower of Amy Gerber, Hair-Styling Guru, for the past ten years, and I have been to several salons during the interim of this following, but I will undoubtedly say that nothing has compared to the experience I had when going to DEX. From the moment I walked in, I felt as though I were walking into a friend's house. I was warmly greeted and offered a seat and a beverage while I waited. Amy has been cutting my hair for the past ten years because I refuse to trust anyone else with the task. She is always ready to offer suggestions about what looks best on each client and refuses to let anyone leave without looking her most fabulous. She is an amazing stylist as well as an amazing colorist, and she has more than earned the loyalty of this devoted follower. more
