Best

I have been going to Chino since they opened. The quality of the food has changed over the years, the blackberry mohito martini has less puree than it used to, and it caters more ...

Worst

The Ambience and ""scene"" is great, if the food and service were great to match this place would be amazing. Unfourntunatly i always recieve perkins style service and the food t...

Give it a chance 7/22/2004

Sure it's a stand & model bar with upscale prices and a little flair but I if you're looking for a little noisy fun, a few drinks and some really good food with a group of friends, give this a try. It's really alot more fun than the other reviews on this site might lead on and the waitstaff is amazingly friendly. more

keepin it real 7/7/2004

Anyone who has ever eaten jerk chicken on the streets of Negril can spot this imposter a mile away. The waitstaff is fairly polite, but the host staff and management are far to dazzled by their own elegance. Its a status joint..thats all. Pros: trendy decor, flashy bartending Cons: , staff, they allow kids more

GOOD FOOD SUBPAR SERVICE 2/4/2004

I RECENTLY WENT TO CHINO LATINO AND HAD A GREAT TIME WITH SOME FRIENDS. THE FOOD WAS ENJOYABLE AND HAD A GOOD VARIETY TO IT. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT WITH GOOD FLAVOR I WOULD RECOMMEND GIVING CHINO A TRY. THE ONLY DISAPOINTMENT WAS IN THE HOSTS/MANAGEMENT WHICH SEEMED TO THINK THEY WERE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE CUSTOMERS AND THE DRY PERSONALITY OF THE SERVER. I WOULD SAY THAT THEY WERE KIND OF WHAT ONE WOULD EXPECT IN THAT AREA FOR SERVICE. IF YOU GO IT IS WORTH IT VALLET BECAUSE THE VALLET SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT AND CHEAP. Pros: FOOD, ATMOSPHERE, VALLET Cons: , SNOOTY MANAGEMENT more

Frat Boys and Sorority Sisters-UNITE! 11/18/2003

So, I went to Chino for the very last time that I will ever go there this past week-end. The host and hostess treated me like I was non-existent until I raised my voice and made myself a little more noticeable. The place was so loud that I could barely hear my pals that were sitting right next to me. The pretentiousness of the patrons of this restaurant is on the level of the Hilton sisters. Please, this is just UPTOWN, not San Francisco, NY, or LA. I will never go here again and will tell everyone I know to do likewise, which is too bad because the food was pretty decent and the server did her best to make us happy. I mourn what could have been. Pros: food, service, drink selection Cons: other patrons, pretentiousness, noise level more

Chino rocks! 10/10/2003

i went there on a first date about 2 years ago and whether it was my date or the atmoshphere I HAD A BLAST! the food was AWESOME (i recommend the lettuce wraps and paella, the drinks were strong and good ( i recommend the sloppy kiss) as for the atmosphere can't get any better, it's hip, upbeat and trndy its almost like you're eating in a club with all the fiberoptics and trance music playing it's truely and experience and i can't wait to get up to MPLS and go again!!!!! oh yeah and the hot monkey love for dessert was GREAT! definite 10 in my book!!! Pros: food, atomosphere, drinks more

Looks dont count in the end 9/22/2003

on sunday my roommate and i went to chino for some apps and drinks. i love the interior of chino and typically i like a lot of their food. sunday they had a great group of men singing and playing music which was really nice. the experience overall however was not so nice. our server knew little to nothing about the menu. she failed to order our drinks in less than 20 minutes between. she lied about menu items not having certain ingredient. she never checked back on our food so that we could tell her that it was so greasy it was unedible. and a manager did not bother to check with us until we flagged him down. unfortunate that so many things had to go wrong in just one visit. Pros: location, interior, music Cons: service, management, food more

Not as Trendy & Sophisticated 9/20/2003

As a San Franciscan, use to GREAT food & dining, I was not impressed. The ""chain"" atmosphere was very present as birthday's and large groups of ""Olive Garden"" type of patrons crouded the bar. The lacking of patrons older than 21 was difficult to find, but the ""meat market"" type of atmosphere of college kids was definately noticable. The tables are poorly placed leaving little privacy and the hurried way of service provided the atmosphere were they were trying to get you fed and out the door for those waiting 1.5-2 hrs. to get a table. Not taking reservations is a serious No No in my book. With very little choice of trend and sophistication in the Twin Cities area, thought I would give it a try again, but NOT impressed and will never go back. BTW, what is the theme of this place, Cuban, Thai, Vietnamese, Carribean Asian Fusion? Pros: Ambiance, Service, Quality Cons: Decor, Drinks, Location more

Cosmo Lover turns Mojito! 9/7/2003

Three words: Blackberry Mojito Martini. As a loyal cosmo lover, I was suprised to hear myself declare my new favorite drink a Blackberry Mojito Martini. It is sweet and refreshing and the perfect sunmmer drink. Twice we have had delightful drinks and tasty appetizers- no dinners. Now this isn't a fine dining restaurant nor does it try to be. It is what it is: a happening scene, good food, and fabulous drinks. When informed but my 23 year old brother that Solera was not enough of a people scene for him, Chino Latino did more than compensate. Pros: Great drinks, Eye candy everywhere, Outside seating Cons: Loud, often busy more

Decide for Yourself 8/13/2003

The interior of this place is fabulous! very hip, and unique. Expect high noise levels, and lot of crowds. The drinks are fun and very different, but way, way overpriced. Same goes for the food. I have always had a great experience in terms of the food. The menu items are unique, and the flavors are unordinary. Again, way overpriced. The service is very typical, the waiters do their best, & I've never had major problems, but you can tell that they're busy. Overall, I'd say this is fun place, in a nice location to go out with friends, but expect to shell out lots of money. Pros: location, atmosphere, fun factor Cons: cost/value, parking, too loud more

Aquired Taste 7/24/2003

As a young and wide-eyed 18 year old, Chino Latino is an a place that you have to experience for yourself. I have been there so many times that I lost count a long time ago, and I am only 18, I can't even drink the unbelievable cocktails! The atmosphere is the best you can get. It's beautiful. The food, well...it's way overpriced, you feel cool when eating it and you have so much fun with your friends, it really doesn't matter. I totally love all the appetizers and the desserts! Even though the Sacrificial Goddess is overpriced and basically a glitzy s'more, it's way fun to roast your marshmellows over the flame. You don't really go to Chino Latino for the food, just for the unreal environment and the fun you have with your friends! Pros: Fun, Entertaining, Music Cons: Expensive, Crowded, Long waits more

Over-Rated! 7/18/2003

Don't believe it when you here how great this place is. Adding some spices to a dish doesn't make it cutting-edge or exotic. Also, the drinks are extremely over-priced. On the plus side, the waiter did a great job. Pros: Staff, Atmosphere Cons: Price, Loud, Overall Value more

Never Disappoints 6/26/2003

First things first: chino is often full of hipper than thou SUV leasing aging unsophisticates on the weekends. chino is loud as hell on the weekends. chino can be so busy, it's hard to get a drink...on the weekends. Now, that aside, chino has very tastey well prepared food (sushi could be a little fresher). Nothing is ever oversalted, and the flavors are always surprisingly complimentary. The signature drinks are pricey, but quite well done. The party atmosphere can be a blast, especially with groups or for seconds dates. The service has always been attentive and forthcoming w/ regard to suggestions. One of my faves for happy hour and late night for sure. I recommend the drano balls, fried rice and guacamole, maze, jerk chicken, bento box, portobella satay and tacos. And ya gotta have the popocatepe at happy hour. Pros: Fast, Friendly, Tastey Cons: Weekend Evenings more

Not the best margarita 5/1/2003

I disagree with the ""best margarita"" rating. I have had their boring margaritas-they are especially boring compared to the other drinks offered at Chino Latino. It was a good drink, but shouldn't deserve the ""best"" rating. more

Chino-flop-tino 3/30/2003

Ok, I went once, I went twice... I went a few more times... cuz I wanted to try to make it happen... but it didn't. My meat tasted like fish, the tortillas stuck together worse than super glue to my fingers, my server was ok, but not worth the tip I left him (why do we do that?). If you don't want a loud restaurant, then don't go here. This place is highly over-rated. Amazing how it's sister restaurant kitty corner is my most favorite place in the world and this is somewhere I cringe when people suggest we go there... and yes... I suggest going somewhere else. The restaurant as a whole gets worse with time. Get with the program Chino Latino - the best thing you got going for you is your bathrooms. Pros: ambiance, drink selection, location Cons: crowded, cold food more

Be real - and you'll be real satisfied. 3/14/2003

As a late 30's local, I frequent Chino often. If you go to Chino execting to somehow be transported to your New York expectations, then you're just foolish - Chino is simply a great neighborhood spot. It is true: too many suburban cattle in their 20's pour in to air their best Uptown impressions - but it can be great fun watching them attempt pseudo-hipdom while also requesting a valet. Take it is stride and enjoy the yummy revolving menu, huge drinks, and charred atmosphere. Don't go to Chino if you think the world owes you something because you are 'you' - you'll be dissatisfied... Pros: Fun Food, Huge Atmosphere, Clueless Posers Cons: , Bitchy Posers more

Great for Girls Night out! 3/13/2003

I have gone to Chino Latino for Happy hour after work and while the food and service is always good, its more fun to go when you know it won't be so crowded. Its a favorite place for friends on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. You can't beat the flavors, and you can hear yourself talk. Attn Guys: For a fun date, take her to for drinks and order the S'mores platter for dessert, share the marshmallows! Very original! more

Loud, Fun, Unique 3/3/2003

If you are looking for someplace for an intimate heart to heart over the same plate of pasta that every other restaurant seems to serve around here, Chino is not for you. Want someplace loud? Fun? Cool? Unique (and great) food? Chino is it. more

Looks like a cool place but... 2/22/2003

...it's hideously overrated. Unless you like restaurants that are expensive, with mediocre food, noisy atmospheres and crowded with suburbanites feigning hipster dufus attitudes, this is a place to avoid. When seated in a group of five people around a table, it's nearly impossible to even have a conversation at all because of the excessive nosie level and the menu offers little to offer if you have any vegetarians in the group. The food was pretty bland, despite all the ""great"" reviews I've read. If I was going to take a group out for a Mexican-experience I was head to Boca Chica or La Cucaraca before this hell-hole. Cons: Expensive, Mediocre, Noisy more

Chino Servers 2/17/2003

I think that the servers at Chino Latino are among the best and most attentive in Minneapolis. One of the best things about Chino Latino is its efficiency. They have foodrunners to bring out the dishes, servers to take your order and check up on you occasionally, bus boys to clear your table, and occasionally when it is really busy, they have followers that walk around and fill drinks when the servers won't be able to in a timely matter. The service and atmosphere at Chino Latino are first rate. Pros: service, decor, chic patrons Cons: wait more

Fun... 2/15/2003

The food was good, but the I've had better service. Good drinks, a little bit expensive. Make reservations if dinning past 6:00 pm Pros: Food, Drinks, Atmosphere Cons: Service more
