Best

I have been going to Chino since they opened. The quality of the food has changed over the years, the blackberry mohito martini has less puree than it used to, and it caters more ...

The Ambience and ""scene"" is great, if the food and service were great to match this place would be amazing. Unfourntunatly i always recieve perkins style service and the food t...

Fun, fun, fun 2/9/2003

It attracts a very specific kind of crowd, but that is neither bad nor atypical for a restaurant located in the heart of Up-town. Dress trendy and prep your tastebuds for a worldly experience. There is a very exciting and lengthy menu, each entree with it's own unique flavor. The servers are exceedingly helpful explaining things and making suggestions. Trust them. From the creative menu, to the fun drink options, to the insulting fortune cookies, Chino Latino makes for a great night out on the town. Pros: very flavorful cusine, fun, fantastic servers Cons: extremely trendy, loud more

Poor, poorer, poorest 2/5/2003

I gave Chino 3 chances to live up to all the hype and expectations. The service has been poor at best on all 3 occasions. The wait staff is inattentive, pushy and rude. The food is not new and exciting. It's boring. The atmosphere is cool but way, way too loud. How can you enjoy a meal when you have to shout at your dining companions who are 4 feet from you. Service is what sells me on all the restaurants I frequent and I will never frequent Chino Latino again. more

What's all the hubbub? 1/23/2003

We went on a weekend night, 2 couples with a reservation. We were seated a half hour late. Conversation was nearly impossible, the place is an echo chamber. Food was good, and creative, but the service was slow, and snobby. You need to have something to be snobby about. Pros: creative food, attractive decor Cons: loud echo chamber, slow, snobby more

art deco meets urban crowd with a twist 1/21/2003

I have been dining at Chino Latino since shortly after it opened & have been pleased everytime. Great for a large crowd! Try the pig roast for that special get together! Be sure & get a magnet on your way out too. more

Nice Escape 1/17/2003

I went there, because of what I read in City Pages; and I was really taken away. I like how, the minute you step in the door, you feel taken away from Minneapolis. We had a noodle dish with an appetizer of some salmon sushi. (I didn't like the sushi, but my date loved it) I liked how the portions are meant for 2-4 people, so you can just share... The bathrooms were interesting, too :) I would go back again. Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: parking more

Scale of 1-10, 4 1/2/2003

Extremely noisy, and the food was just there. Had several entrees but did not care for any of them. Pros: Alot of food, nice bar Cons: noisy, food more

Not for the quiet seekers! 12/16/2002

I absolutely love this place!! The have the best mix of foods, drinks, and volume. You get energized just after stepping in the door. Bar is great for people watching....Curry shrimp is the absolute best thing on their menu. One of the greatest places to go with a group for a dinner party!! If you want an experience not like anything else around, check this place out. One note, if you are looking for a romantic or quiet restaraunt -- look elsewhere!! Pros: great ambience, valet, flavorful food Cons: crowded, loud more

Totally over-rated! 11/19/2002

Crowded, noisy, slow and sometimes inattentive service! Food is OK but not the most inspiring. Too much coconut. Not good value for money. more

Latino, Chino Latino 11/6/2002

I like the idea of food to share and this restaurant does offer an interesting atmosphere and heaping portions. However if you don't like spicy food beware. People in my party asked the waitress if she could recommend some dishes that were not spicy, she did and was dead wrong, in fact it seems like nothing on the menu isn't spicy so be warned. Also I think that the mix drink prices are absolutly ridiculous. If memory serves the cheapest is around 7 dollars and they skyrocket from there. Personally, if I would chose a place like Chiang Mai Tai over this place, the atmosphere at Chiang's isn't as great but the selection and value exceed that of Chino Latino. Pros: atmosphere Cons: drink prices, menu selection more

Not for the unwilling 10/23/2002

As usual, the negative reviews on here are from those that are stuck in the mud-expecting every new concept in dining to be molded to their prior experiences. Chino's is set up to be a new experience. The food is not outstanding, but it's different; that's the idea!! For those of you that get all flustered being presented with the unfamiliar, do us all a favor and stick to TGIF'S! Pros: drinks, atmoshpere, desserts!! Cons: crowded, noisy more

Definitely not Minnesota! 10/23/2002

This place is just about as un-Minnesotan as it gets. You literally feel like you're in a different country when you walk in the door. THe ambience is awesome. I absolutely love it. It's a little Asian, a little Southwestern and completely fantastic. The service is good, the food is great, and the drinks are to die for. If you like Lo Mein this is the place to go. Huge family style servings serve 2-4 and you usually can bring home leftovers (my favorite!) If your looking for a fun night out in a different locale this is the place to go!! Pros: Awesome ambience, Great Food, Good service Cons: Can be overcrowded, Expensive more

Bueno #@%&*% 10/18/2002

This place is so fun and so tasty that I try to go back often. I take all my out of town guests here and noone has ever complained. The atmosphere is so fun and inviting. Try the salty squid- Yum! Pros: fun ambiance, good food, presentation Cons: Uptown parking, busy, Noisy more

not impressed 10/13/2002

expensive!!! Not very big portions for food. Not a lot of places for large parties to sit. Food was not all that great for what we paid more

Honalulu Hummer! 10/11/2002

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Chino Latino. The drink list is nothing less than amazing. There are a wide range of yummy martini's (Kamanawannalaya) and manly drinks served in coconuts and pineapples. The prices are a little steep on the drinks, but well worth it. The food was interesting. It may be difficult to find something that sounds appealing, but if you close your eyes and scrool, chances are your plate will thank you. Chino quite possibly has the best lomein I have ever eaten. This is a great place to go on a date or with another couple. The bar gets busy, so get there early. The atmosphere is like something out of Vegas. I have no doubt the average Minnesota who is used to Outback Steakhouse and The District, will be overjoyed when they discover this gem of a place. Pros: Drink menu, Ambience, Out of the ordinary Cons: Slow service, Need reservations, Loud!!! more

neh... 10/4/2002

The Ambience and ""scene"" is great, if the food and service were great to match this place would be amazing. Unfourntunatly i always recieve perkins style service and the food tastes like bad comfort food more

Sweet and Sassy 10/4/2002

This resturant has a ""Sex and the City"" feeling to it. You feel like your going to turn around and meet the man of your dreams. Pros: Great Atmosphere Cons: Bad Parking more

Chino's the Bomb 10/4/2002

If you're looking for a hip, chic place, look no further. As a former east-coast transplant, this is about as close to NYC as it gets. Great lounge, pretty people, and NYC prices. Kudos to those who thought it smart to bring Asia de Cuba here. Pros: Valet Parking, Beautiful People, Trendy atmosphere Cons: Loud more

Ethnic delights 10/4/2002

I loved the blend of the spanish and asian. The waitress we had was pretty, hip and friendly. The service was fast and the specials were orginal and resonably priced. Pros: Friendly service, Fast service more

Hot Monkey Love 9/27/2002

I love this place. The food is great. The desert is to die for and the drinks are strong. The service leaves a lot to be desired, except for the cuties behind the bar. If you don't mind the loud hum of tacky pick-up lines, then this is the place for you. more

Chino-Rip-me-off-O 9/26/2002

Chino Latino is unique to Minneapolis, and that is about the best thing I can say about it. After going to Asia de Cuba in NY, we now see where the concept was stollen from. Unfortunately our version does not hold a candle to it's East Coast step-sister. And might I add, the prices at Asia de Cuba are lower plus the quality of food is much higher. Still drinks and appetizers are fun at Chino Latino as long as you have a lot of cash ($12 cosmos) and your expectations for a great meal aren't too high. People watching always rates a 10. Pros: Beautiful People, Beautiful Bar Tender, Trendy Spot Cons: Expensive, Marginal Food, Too Crowede more
