Best

I have been going to Chino since they opened. The quality of the food has changed over the years, the blackberry mohito martini has less puree than it used to, and it caters more ...

The Ambience and ""scene"" is great, if the food and service were great to match this place would be amazing. Unfourntunatly i always recieve perkins style service and the food t...

Creative Dining 9/13/2002

Definately try the Tostada de Tinga if you like spicy food. A must try! Many selections (most appetizers are enough for a meal) of all varieties of food in the Hot Zone. Go often for the food, but be prepared for the crowds! Pros: Varied Menu Cons: Noisy, Crowded more

Only go if you like a FUN atmosphere 9/12/2002

Chino Latino is fun, fun, fun. It features foods from the ""hot zones"" and it is a hot zone all by itself. I have had good food and some not so great food there, but I always have FUN. It can be a bit expensive but if you order wisely and especially with a group you can keep the price down. They do have a great happy hour. I would never get the lobster thingy again - it was bit overpriced for what you get although the presentation was pretty impressive. Pros: Fun, Good Happy Hour, Great People Watching Cons: Can be pricey, Crowded more

One of the top spots for MINNEAPOLIS 9/11/2002

This place is awesome! Great Food, Beautiful people, Good Times! I went with a large group of friends(20y/o ad creatives) on a Tuesday night. It was packed and alive! Just imagine Fridays and Saturdays! The waitstaff from the hostess to the busboy were very attentive. If you are expecting this place to be like NYC, ATL, Chi-town, Miami- don't go. I have lived in South Beach(Miami Beach, Chicago and Europe. I often vacation in Boston and New York. So, I know what ""cool"" and ""hip"" are. For Minneapolis, Chino Latino is very ""cool"" and very ""hip"" more

Great food, awful atmosphere 9/1/2002

The food is great, the prices are a little high but reasonable for the quality of food, the service is so-so, and the atmosphere and the clientel keep me from going back. Pros: Food Cons: Atmosphere, Clientel, Service more

Somewhat overrated 8/26/2002

Great location and atmosphere, but with mediocre food and so-so service it is overrated. However, no argument can be made that is not a great place to people watch or meet a few of them. more

Monkeys in your Fruity Drinks 8/22/2002

Throbbing music, futuristic backlit bar, eclectic (if sometimes not perfectly executed menu), and plastic zoo creatures in your potent and pretty cocktails. A destination for out-of-town guests. Skip the entrees and order 'Little Dishes to Share'. And go valet - so much easier than finding a spot in Uptown. Pros: Pretty crowd, Serious Cocktails, Eye-popping decor Cons: Entrees are weak, poor local parking more

Guinea pig? That's just gross. 8/21/2002

I find it absolutely disgusting that this establishment serves guinea pig -- something many people in America have as a pet. When the waiter has to warn you not to look at the table next to you because of what they ordered, it shouldn't be on the menu. If Chino is trying to be ""hip and trendy"" this is taking it too far. more

unique fun!! 8/20/2002

Chino Latino has some of the most unique and delicious food in the twin cities. Because their food is from the streets of the ""hot zone"", it is very creative. There are many interesting combinations of food but they are all pulled off very well. The atmosphere of Chino Latino cannot be beat. The restaurant's decoration is very unique and trendy, and there is a definite energy to the restaurant, perhaps due to the fact that the restaurant is good for large groups because of its largely portioned meals, or perhaps simply due to its energetic staff and general ora. Regardless, Chino is a great place to go if you're looking for a unique, different place to eat, especially with a group of people, for a fun time!! Pros: Great atmosphere, Unique food Cons: Loud more

Unique Spot 8/19/2002

This is such a unique bar/restaurant for the Twin Cities. It reminds me of a few places in California and Las Vegas. They have the best martini's and cosmo's, food, desserts and who can forget the bathrooms! Pros: Best drinks, Unique spot more

Fun for a group 8/7/2002

I enjoy going here with a group so that we can try quite a few dishes and share. The green beans were the best I have ever had! The ""spicy"" coconut shrimp was not spicy at all!! more

Chino Libido 8/5/2002

Despite feeling like it's a ""I try real hard to be cool"" sort of place... an enjoyable atmosphere worth experiencing. Definitely unique, definitely loud, definitely attempting to be funky in a city that lacks funk. So call it ""try hard,"" call it whatever... mpls should be encouraged to follow in footsteps and create some more stylish dining options that can blend beautiful food with saucey atmosphere. Pros: decor, individuality, creativity Cons: wait more

great for brunch 8/1/2002

it's the best place to go with a group of friends to have brunch on Sundays. It's a great atmosphere! And there is no other place where you can get extremely full from 2 platters and $5. more

But How Do I Look? 7/29/2002

If you're looking for a romantic place to have intimate conversation and a fantastic meal with your date then Chino Latino is NOT the place for you. If you want to put on your best fashionista gear, guzzle $12 drinks and gossip about the fauna that catches your eye then look no further sweetie!! Chino is it. The food is nothing to crow about; it looks and sounds pretty but i'd stick to appetizers and cocktails. Besides, who wants to eat when there's so much to see? Pros: Fun, Experienced Staff, Fab Decor Cons: Loud, Expensive, Below Avg. Food more

Fun Food 7/29/2002

Okay, so I admit the place is a little pretentious like some of the previous reviewers have said... but all I have to say is, ""So what?!"" It's fun. The food is good. There are a lot of menu options. So maybe they're just trying to be cool by serving shredded beef on a banana leaf - but it's a fun place and that's all I care about. Pros: Unique Food, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Loud, Crowded more

Huh? 7/12/2002

If you're going to open a restaurant, then for God's sake specialize in a cuisine. When you try to serve 3 or more cuisines -- none of which compliment each other very well -- all suffer. I'd rather have Chinese at The Rainbow, and I'd rather have Carribean down the street at Harry Singh's. Sure, the atmosphere is flashy, but I get the distinct impression that I'm not hip enough to even sit at the bar. Chino Latino is all style and little substance. more

It's so ""952"" 7/11/2002

A stylish facade cannot hide the fact it's overrun with suburbanites out for their once-a-month infestation of Uptown. True urbanites have realized that Chino is a breading ground for all that's mundane and white bread. From the crowd to the food, Chino is uninspired and flat. I will admit they pour a good cocktail, if you can stomach the rows of buffons in baseball hat blocking the bar. more

Am I in Minneapolis???? This place rocks 7/9/2002

Chino is a great place to bring people from out of town, or be seen (or not) hanging out with your best friend. The food is always fresh, well priced, and there is always something new on the menu. Don't go there with an attitude, come with an open mind and a smile! Pros: Valet parking, Great happy hour, Yummy food more

overrated and overpriced 6/24/2002

First of all the food is good but way too expensive and the portions small for the given price. Sharing is fun but each ""large"" portion barely shares between two people and the smaller dishes are barely enough for one person. Half the fun of a place like this is trying a wide variety of different things and it's too expensive to do that. Second it is loud, really loud, like you literally need to shout to hear your table mates. Lastly its way over crowded, I like a busy scene but not to the point where you're figiting the people next to you for elbow room. Pros: interesting variety, great tasting food, interesting concept Cons: overpriced, crowded, loud more

a good change from the norm 6/8/2002

Overall, a very cool restaurant. Great and very loud atmosphere - the bar is especially cool, with all of its orange lights. The portions of the items we ordered seemed to be a little small though; but the menu is rather eccentric and very creative. I don't think I saw any sandwiches or burgers on the menu. Anyone coming here should know that the name is not very apparent on the outside of the restaurant, just look for the bright sparkly reflective front [on Hennepin]. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Parking, Value more

What's the big deal ? 5/31/2002

I visited Chino over the weekend (5/25) and found the food to be average and the service to be poor. Basically very similar to any other Uptown establishment that no longer has to try to retain or attract new customers. If you are a 20 something yupster looking for Ms. or Mr. ""right"", as in just like yourself, you will love it. If you are there to enjoy a drink, eat, and enjoy pleasant service, I'd find another place. Many of the reviews that ""rave"" about this place you can bet are typically younger women and men who fall into the upscale dating and mating category dressing to impress. Maybe Chino Latino Social Club would be a better name and give a discount to graduates of pricey private colleges ? Pros: decor, location Cons: expensive, rude crowd, rude service more
