Average All-Around 10/21/2010

We went on a weekday and had no wait. In fact, they were the only restaurant open at the time we were there (mid-afternoon). Prices were slightly high, but we all found something that appealed to us on the menu - great variety of food choices. Good service, as well. The food, however, was greasy and bland. I left with an unpleasant heavy/greasy feeling in my tummy after eating the crab melt. My husband's sturgeon was slightly better, but still we weren't very impressed with the food. Also, there is only a single bathroom and it's tiny. more

quant and intimate 11/21/2009

Excellent food quailty, good service and nice interior.\r \r Wlak to nearly the end of Winslow street and Cafe Nola will be on the left corner. Cute restaurant, but not over done. Fish & Chips, and the Chicken Club were good. Pros: Tiny restaruant with a lot of character Cons: Tiny bathroom more

Cafe Nola is Overratted 5/9/2009

Cafe Nola was featured on Food Network, which I believe has been the destruction of this cute little cafe. Food is pretty good, and so are the prices. But really the best part about this restaurant is the ferry boat ride to get there, and the walk from the dock into town. Even with a reservation wait times can be quite long on weekends, and just today I have found out that they lost the reservation I made in February for Mothers Day, leaving me high and dry with no plans. After being passed off to three different people ended up on the phone with frazzled and rude hostess, who didn't make any accommodations for their mistake of losing my reservation. My advice: Go on a weekday, make reservations, call at least once to verify reservations, and enjoy the ferry boat ride. Pros: Fun ferry boat ride, decent food for average price Cons: overratted, rude hostess, slow food, noisey, unorganized more

great brunch 2/15/2009

the 5 of us ate brunch at Cafe Nola today. i had the eggs benedict, the lemon hollandaise was delicious, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. aside from my potatoes being a little too al dente, everything was great. other things that were ordered were the pecan french toast, crab benedict, the crab melt, and the fish and chips, all receiving rave reviews. we look forward to eating here and trying something new from their menu- everything sounded so delicious. Pros: cute place, very welcoming, not stuffy or snobby Cons: didnt receive a warm up on my coffee. a little spendy. more

Fine casual atmosphere, delicious food, totally charming. 7/16/2008

The place absolutely oozes charm and heart. First walk on to the ferry for the half-hour ride to Bainbridge and stroll the 1/2 mile or so the the cafe. (If you're of a mind to, have a cocktail at the excellent cozy little bar at the Winslow Cafe, right across the street beforehand). Feel the romance coming on? Everything I've had to eat there has been delicious, freshly prepared with top grade local/seasonal ingredients. Their deserts are WONDERFUL. Service is a little clunky sometimes, but mellow down easy and enjoy the excellemnt cuisine and real-world ambiance. more

Quaint and Delicious 4/19/2008

Thank you so much for the quaint atmosphere, awesome waiter, and delectable food! If we are ever back in this area, we will definitely stop in for another delicious meal. This was a 5 Star experience! I had the French Toast. Yummmmmmmmm! Bacon is really good. I had to order an extra side of it, cause my family was eating all of my bacon!\r Carol K.\r Lincoln, NE Pros: Easy access from ferry, even if walking more

Definitely NOT worth the trip... 3/21/2008

After seeing Cafe Nola's brunch featured on the Food Network, I was expecting great things. What I got was overpriced drinks, undercooked food, and an unimaginative and sparse menu. \r \r My first disappointment was the bloody mary which I ordered off of Cafe Nola's specialty bloody mary menu. The drink was $8.50, and was served in a narrow glass filled to the brim with ice. The actual bloody mary mix they prepared was bland as well. Mrs. T's would have been better. I was even more offended by the inclusion of carrot as one of the garnishes. Any bloody mary connoisseur would agree that carrot is an unacceptable garnish! \r \r When it came time to place my food order, I found there were few choices. I eventually chose butternut squash ravioli, only to find they were out of it. So instead I chose an omelet with feta, mushrooms and roasted red peppers. When the food came out, it looked great. There were nice thick slices of toast and a dish of strawberry jam to accompany it. But when I cut into my omelet, a puddle of uncooked egg mixutre poured out!!! How unappetizing! Seriously, if you can't get an omelet right, it's time to hang up your apron!\r \r So, if you want a great breakfast, save yourself the time and inconvenience of a ferry ride. Some of my favorite spots are Cafe Campagne in Seattle, and Wild Wheat in Kent. more

Pretentious - not worth it on Bainbridge Island 12/31/2007

I won't ever spend a dime of my own money here. We stopped in for lunch and tried to get a table for 5 (4 adults & 1 child). We were told that they were too busy to seat us even though we could see empty tables at the back of the restaurant. I would rather have heard that the wait was 3 hours long for a table of 5 instead of 'we can't seat you'. I'm not sure if the food is good here, but I'm sure the pretentious and rude staff would surely spoil your meal! more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. 4/24/2007

We went there on a Monday night and the restaurant was pretty full. We got sat at 720pm and we got our appetizer pretty quickly but our drinks didn't come until after we were done eating our appetizer (we thought it was weird to get the drinks after the food though). We kept hearing them apologizing to the other tables about being short staffed but they didn't say a word to us. At about 8:05pm, they still didn't get our dinner orders and totally were ignoring us. So we left a $20 bill to cover the appetizer and drinks and decided to go. We told the lady in the front what happened and that we were leaving and that was when she apologized to us and told us to keep our $20. \r \r We went to all the trouble of taking the ferry to go to Cafe Nola (recommended by a friend) just to waste almost an hour of our time just waiting and being ignored and all the while we were starving. Nobody came to our table and told us the situation (short staff, etc) which is what they were doing at other tables. I've worked in a restaurant before and we've had situations like that but we NEVER ignored any of the customers and we took their dinner orders at a reasonable time. This situation is totally INEXCUSABLE for this kind of place (""nicer"" place). The food may be good (we never got a chance to taste it though), and it seemed like they had some loyal patrons, but we won't be one of them. \r \r more

GLAD I WENT! 1/27/2007

I was visiting a friend in Seattle, and I saw this restaurant featured on ""Giada's Weekend Getaways"" on the Food Network. The food was delicious and filling. Very nice Decor, and its in a quaint little town. Easily accessable near the Bainbridge Island Ferry. Staff was plesant, tho it took about 15-20 minutes for the meal to arrive at the table. We went for Brunch on Sunday, then hopped the Ferry to Downtown Seattle. Brunch was a good way to start a great day. Pros: FOOD, DECOR, NEIGHBORHOOD Cons: CAN FILL UP QUICKLY more

The only place to get a ""NICE"" dinner in town. 10/5/2006

This place is beautiful. Lemon yellow walls, soft jazz, dark stained furniture, and a high-end casual vibe throughout. Brunch favorite is crab cake benedict, Lunch favorite is the roasted vegetable foccacia sandwich with HUGE steak fries, and at dinner, tortilla crab salad or pan seared scallops. If you come for one thing only, ever in your life, make SURE its the white chocolate caramel bread pudding. So good. The chefs know what they're doing and the servers make you feel right at home. A bit pricey, but totally worth it. Pros: Ecclectic but approachable food, atmosphere, service Cons: Prices, Crowded on weekends or in tourist season more

Understated Elegance with a Flair! 9/4/2006

A most delightful experience awaited us on our lunch visit to Cafe Nola on Labor Day. From the polished wine glasses and cutlery to the inviting daily menu, we immediately felt right at home. A warm ambience and soft music from a bygone era complimented our server's welcome. Elegant accents such as serving bread from a bread basket do not go unnoticed. I was also appreciative of the white linen used to tidy the neck of the bottle of red wine we selected to compliment our lunch. The eggplant parmigiana was a pleasant surprise and the lightly grilled bread that accompanied it was perfectly toasted. A fragrant garlic pasta accompanied the entree. Extra virgin olive oil adorned every table. The booth we were seated in was rather non descript, however it was comfortable and private, and soon forgotten over the warm bread pudding dessert and tawny port. The dessert plate was artistically dressed and well received.\r A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I will return again, the experience is unparallelled and most uncommon in this day of generic restaurant offerings...\r Pros: Ambience, service, style Cons: One m/f shared restroom. more

perfection! 8/21/2006

my husband and i visited cafe nola last night to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. everything was impeccable - our adorable table on the patio, the most delicious food exquisitely prepared and presented (go now, you MUST have the gazpacho!!), and a relaxed atmosphere we were happy to sit, sip some wine, and forget about our busy city lives. we go to the all the top boutique seattle restaurants (lark, harvest vine, zoe) and cafe nola is one of our favorites. \r \r it was the perfect end to a day spent on charming bainbridge island thank you cafe nola! more

Good food, pleasant service 7/15/2006

Had an enjoyable dinner at Nola. I've been to this place a number of times and have always had a good experience. Tonight had the Rib-eye, excellent, if a tad on the rare side. Truffle mash potatoes are good, and the creme brule was very nice. They have a selection of half-bottles of wine. Always a good excuse for a ferry ride from Seattle. Pros: Nice location, friendly staff, good food Cons: Uneven service more

GREAT OUTDOOR DINING GREAT FOOD GREAT LOCATION 6/8/2006

iM NOT SURE WHAT THE OTHER REVIEWS ARE TALKING ABOUT!! I have been to this place several times lunch, brunch, and dinner. The food is outstanding! The service is young but fun and honest. Im sure it is hard to find professional service staff members on an island so I think people should give them some slack. There is a professional waiter who I think must work all the time because every time we go there for dinner he is there and we have found him there during lunch also. We live in Seattle and take the boat over to enjoy this place at least 1 or twice a month. The menu changes frequently and we do try new things every time. It has had great reviews from Sunset magazine to Seattle Weekly and Seattle Times. We have been there when it is slow and when it was packed and the food tasted and looked great as always. Im not sure what is up with City Search reviewers because I think it is an insult to get reviews like that from these people. Maybe it is a conspiracy of sorts because it really does not ring true. The scallop dish is so unique and it has been written about by food professionals as being one of the most innovative dishes ever. The back room is great for private parties as we had a party of 14 there this last Winter and we were very pleased. Everyone in our party ( from out of town ) we very impressed. Please give this place a try. It has been operating for over 6 years and very busy so it is hard to ignore those facts. Yes the Bread Pudding is great. My wife and I ordered a whole one for a private function in Bellevue and every one said it was the best ever. As far as prices are concerned it is no more expensive than other restaurants in the city that we pass on because when we get on that boat for a short 35 min ride we feel as though were getting away. We sometimes order dessert to-go with a couple of plastic forks and sit on top of the boat and watch the sun set as we enjoy it. So if you want to have an experience woth talking about... GO TO THIS PLACE IT ROCKS\r \r Our favorite place.\r Pros: Food - Outdoor dining - Ambience Cons: Not in Seattle more
