The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Best Breakfast 6/29/2008

Yes, there is a 40-60 minute wait unless you get there BEFORE 9am. You can put in your name and do some shopping and walk to the harbor. You may be expected to sit with strangers, but the restaurant only has 8 tables so you all end up talking to eachother anyway.\r \r My husband had a breakfast sandwich and I had the banana french toast. We split an order of biscuits and gravy (way too large for even one). All the food was wonderful and so was the service. Someone sitting at the next table raved about the Captain Crunch French toast and said it was worth making a trip for. Pros: Won't find a better breakfast in the city Cons: Gotta wait for it more

YOU MUST GO!!!! 6/20/2008

We decided to try the Blue Moon cafe today while in Baltimore for a visit with our son to Johns Hopkins. We had seen the restaurant featured on Food Network's ""Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives"" and were dying to try it. In one word.....WOW!!! I ordered the Captn. Crunch coated French Toast. It was served topped with three kinds of fresh fruit and whipped cream on the side. I also ordered a side of Biscuits and Gravy (I didn't travel all that way for diet food)! Both were amazing and the portions were huge! My family ordered everything from eggs benadict to some sort of Mexican omelette. All five star reviews from every member of the family. Even our four year old scarfed down everything on his plate! \r \r If you get a chance....GO! It's worth the long wait to be seated! You can sit outside on the benches and chat while waiting. Do whatever.....just get there....FAST!!! :) Pros: Pleasaant wait staff. Will get you anything you need and answer any questions! Cons: None! more

Cinnamon rolls to die for 4/20/2008

Be warned -- the breakfast portions at this place are huge! If you don't want to throw your diet out the window, split it with someone. Everything is good here so you can't go wrong, but the star of the show is the cinnamon rolls. They're freshly made and so good to the bite. And once again, huge. I can't really say if the lines are long because we make it a point to show up on or about 7:30 -- I don't want crowds to intrude on my enjoyment of this place! Pros: Great food Cons: Far from where I live (NYC) more

Blue Moon Cafe will now be a staple 3/4/2008

When we visit Baltimore, we will be returning to this place for the homemade jam, awesome creamed chipped beef and crispy hash browns, fresh fruit.. we stopped in on a tuesday morning during our stay.. and had to return to try more the next morning.. Sara was an absolute joy as our waitress.. I only wish we had one of these in Pittsburgh.\r Thanks! more

Best In Charm City 2/13/2008

Blue Moon is excellent in every respect. Crab benedict, biscuits and gravy and the huevos were all great. Service was excellent during our visit. In a rare moment, I fully agree with the masses and award this place ""Best Breakfast in Baltimore...unless it's 3 AM in Which Case it's the Sip and Bite!"" \r \r As a former waiter in NYC and North Carolina, I have some seriously bad news for the previous reviewer; If a waitress handling cash and then touching your dry toast concerns you, I would seriously suggest that you NEVER EAT IN A PUBLIC RESTAURANT AGAIN! I will resist my urge to traumatize you, but you really have no clue and the truth would probably slay you.. Up your medication, dude. Pros: Food! Cons: The wait- if it's too bad, just go to Jimmy's more

Not Impressed 12/3/2007

\r \r I moved to Baltimore 10 months ago and read in one of the local newspapers that this was a great place to eat. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite of that. I found the restaurant dirty. The hard wood floors looked as if they had not been swept or mopped in weeks. I saw waitresses handling money and then picking up toast with their bare unwashed hands. The eggs lacked taste and the hashbrowns were greasy and bland. The presentation of the food was nice and the coffee good. Their sweet rolls which they are known for were just okay. Although they seemed to have a solid reputation and repeat patrons I say try some other places. Pros: Great coffee Cons: Unsanitary. Food needs improvement more

Blue Moon Cafe 10/16/2007

One word to describe the experience at Blue Moon Cafe- HORRIFIC! My friends and I decided to dine there for a late Saturday Brunch. We did not wait the normal wait time, so we got in fairly quickly. Our server was very cordial at the initial greet. We were very pleased. The experience went bad when it took almost fifteen minutes for the drinks to come out. We finally ordered food and when that arrived, our server forgot the pancakes that I wanted. The food runner, when I asked her about my pancakes, she caught an attitude and told me she had only two hands and that they were in the kitchen. Not only did she make me feel uncomfortable, she talked down to me like I was nothing. Like I was not suppose to dine in that restaurant at all being a woman of color. When the cakes came to the table the were undercooked, near raw. I will not sugar coat this, she made me so mad that I felt like I wanted to put my hands on her. I was not aggressive enough and she actually mad me feel bad about even ordering the damn pancakes. BAD SERVICE, BAD FOOD, AND SERVICE STAFF THAT IS TERRIBLE! You all please do the math! DON'T eat there. Pros: Great food Cons: Bad service more

What is the craze all about??? 7/29/2007

I went to Blue Moon for the first time this weekend. My husband and I moved to Balitmore just over a year ago, and have noticed the line of people stretching out the door waiting in line for a table. It is packed every weekend. After my first visit to Blue Moon, I must say that I am perplexed as to why people would waste their time in line for a grungy restaurant, with rude waitstaff, and average (at best) brunch??? I had the Benedict with Crab, Tomato and Cheddar. They forgot the Cheddar. The crab was from a can. The tomatoes were scarce. My husband had the veggie hasbrown skillet mix, and it was OK but nothing to brag about. All in all...it' s not worth the wait in my opinion. more

Very Disappointing 6/3/2007

I have been here several times and have never minded the long wait, it was always worth it. That was not the case today. I ordered my favorite and expensive breakfast, eggs benedict with lump crab meat and hollandaise sauce on the side ($14.95), no big deal b/c it's always worth the cost. I was extremely disappointed when my breakfast arrived with minced canned crab meat and with hollandaise on the eggs. When I pointed out the crab meat to the waitress she explained that they had run out of the lump crab and that someone was at the store right now buying it. I would have been happy ordering something else if they had just been honest about not have the ingredients listed on the menu. I believe this was very misleading and also disappointing after such a long wait. The waitress only charged me for half the price of the meal but that was still a rip-off considering I only ate my hash browns. more

Pros: Food awesome large portions unique dishes for breakfest allot mexican dishes Cons: Sometimes a wait for table and food prep, start with biscuit or cinnabon more

Amazing breakfast! 1/28/2007

Blue Moon is a little gem. The City Paper voted it ""Best Breakfast in Baltimore"" in a recent year, and they weren't kidding: this place elevates ordinary French toast, home fries, and scrambled eggs to an art form. It's very small and quite popular, though; the general protocol is to put your name on the waiting list, spend some time walking around the neighborhood, and come back in about half an hour to get your table. The atmosphere and staff are on the bohemian side, but it's not insufferably hipster. Yes, it's crowded; yes, it's going to take a while to be seated. But it's worth it. Pros: Insanely great breakfast; funky atmosphere Cons: Crowded; waiting for a table is a given more

Worst restaurant experience we have ever had 1/15/2007

The food is okay but it comes at a price. The wait staff have an attitude. They asked us to be sat with another party at the same table...which we reluctantly agreed to. As soon as tables opened up we asked to be moved and they first said no, after we pleaded with them because it being uncomfortable for us, they let us move but ignored us the whole meal. We even asked if we could leave but they said because they had already started to make the food that we would have to pay for it. It was the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant. This is not the first time we have been there and we get the feeling that their service can be as bad as this because the place has enough business. very sad. Pros: popular Cons: long wait, dispicable service with an attitude, made us feel like an inconvenience more

Best Breakfast in town! 1/8/2007

Blue Moon is the greatest place. It's a relaxed setting, small with limited seating. Pretty cool staff that likes to sing to the oldies playing in the back ground. The food gets better each time. Been pretty lucky with getting a table. It doesn't seem to be crowded when I get there but it tends to be when I leave. Awesome fresh fruit and cinnamon buns, If you can't eat it there, take it home! It's worth it. Our waitress was super nice and peppy. She made an AWESOME Mocha with real whip cream. I make it a point to eat breakfast there every time I'm in Baltimore. Pros: Great food! Cons: Limited seating more

TERRIBLE, RUDE SERVICE 12/20/2006

The most unfortunate aspect of Blue Moon is the rude wait staff. It's a terrible shame that a place that serves awesome food can't seem to employ people who give a hoot. Case in point: when my breakfast arrived on one beautiful morning it was minus the toast I ordered, so I politely reminded the server. It took the server 10 MINUTES to bring it out to me when there were only 4 tables eating at the time. The best thing is when I again politely asked for my toast at around 8 minutes, the server shot back a nasty comment. This scenario has happened 3 times before in the last 6 months with varying comments. I have had it with Blue Moon! The only thing that keeps the place going is the food, definately not the service. The wait staff needs charm school, because soon people won't care that they have good food, all that they will remember is how nasty they were treated. more

best brunch 11/19/2006

awesome brunch. best scones and fruit i've had in baltimore. make sure you go a couple of hours before you get hungry cuz the lines are long! Pros: best brunch Cons: long lines more

Not all it's hyped up to be... 8/26/2006

Food is pretty good but we've had better. Most annoying (and common problem) with Blue Moon is that they get very busy and have a haphazard ""list"" to put your name on. People above you will come and go and show-up after their names are called and not loose their place. Being a hallowed regular or one of the favorites definitely seems to be a bonus to getting in. Otherwise, be prepared to wait for upwards of 60 to 90 mins outside and see random people appear from no where and get one of the ~25 seats inside. Pros: Eating after waiting an eternity. Cons: Random seating/wait-list system and waiting for an eternity. more

wonderful food, service can be slow 6/27/2006

I absolutely love Blue Moon, the food is out of this world. My only complant is that service can be very slow and unpredictable. Pros: food Cons: service more

Best Breakfast Ever! 4/30/2006

On a Sunday morning it was hard to find a place for a good cup of coffee, let alone a good breakfast. Thank god we waited an hour for our table. It was positively the best breakfast I have ever ate in a restaurant. I had a burrito with eggs, chorizo, black beans, hash browns and tons of fresh veggies (brocolli, mushrooms, peppers, onions...). I loved the fresh fruit on the plate, everything from orange slices to kiwi. It is defintely worth the wait. Looking forward to going back on my next trip to Baltimore. Pros: great food, fresh fruit Cons: long wait, slow service more

Good if you have all day 1/13/2006

The food at Blue Moon is very very good. Despite waiting for an hour and a half I went back once. However, the staff were unfriendly and rude, the restaurant smelled like body odor on one occasion, and my friend found a hair in her food. It is about a million degrees inside at all times. So, if you have nothing to do for a day - and dont mind sweating the food is great. but from now on i am taking my business elsewhere. Pros: great omelette, cinamon buns Cons: staff, heat, wait more

Best Breakfast ever 12/28/2004

I used to spend alot of time in Fells Point, and started out eating there for the late-night post-bar-hopping reason. I found I enjoyed the food so much, I went there as often as I could. We even stopped there on the way home from the hospital to get carry-out when my wife gave birth to our first child. Pros: Great breakfast food, Inexpensive, Great atmosphere Cons: , Small seating area more
