The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Awesome 12/12/2009

We had to wait 45 minutes in the cold...but it was well worth the wait...the French Toast was to die for...definitely a must when visiting Baltimore Pros: French Toast was awesome Cons: Wait more

Oh Captain my Captain 12/8/2009

Yes, we have all experienced this view from our cars. Driving past Blue Moon cafe any weekend morning you will find the restless and loyal bunch standing outside waiting for their name to be called. While living in Baltimore for a total of 8 years I have never visited the BMC. Then one rainy morning (during the week) I had the opportunity to devour the best waffles I have ever had. Staff was wonderful and the experience is remembered! Can't Stand the line...Go during the week. Duh.. Pros: Best Early Bird Waffle Ever! Cons: It was raining the day I visited more

Best Bet For Breakfast 12/4/2009

I have been waiting a long time to sample this icon since I saw the report on it on the Food Network.\r \r I was not disappointed.\r \r Place is cozy but the food is terriic. \r \r Gina was a great waitress. \r She suggested a small order of French toast with the Capt. Crunch coating. What a great idea. This is not to be missed.\r \r I have been sending out-town-guests here for a long time. Now I can give them a first-hand review.\r \r Don't miss it. Pros: Best French Toast Ever Cons: Long Lines more

Crappy Attitude 11/29/2009

We went and were greeted at the door by a young kid with a bad attitude who appeared to be bouncing the door. He was sitting in the middle of the steps and was taking names and letting people in when it was their turn. When we asked him how long the wait was we had to ask 3 times to be given a snotty answer. We were told it would be an hour for a wait. We decided to try and order to go, only to be given a bad attitude yet again when we asked to view a menu. So in short we didnt even get in the door and had a bad enough experience to make us want to leave. They should reconsider who they have outside representing their establishment. We decided to go to Jimmy's where the food, staff, and overall experience was EXCELLENT! Pros: none Cons: attitude more

Great hangover food 11/28/2009

Great greasy spoon that is open late and never fails to deliver excellent food. When I've been out on the town with the boys I need grease before hitting the bed. If you've been out with the fellas for a night of good ol' American debauchery this is the place that hits the spot be it burgers, pancakes or anything that goes well after about 15 pints of beer. Pros: cheap and good more

Lives up to it's my expectations 11/28/2009

The four of us ventured out on a Saturday morning to try the infamous Captain Crunch French Toast we had seen on TV. Gina suggested we get an order of the french toast and then for everyone to get their own entree's. What a wonderful suggestion, everyone got to try it, it was as delicious as it looked. We all raved about our choices and found ourselves trying each others food. We were very surprised with some of the mixed reviews, this certainly did not reflect the experience that we had. Great service, Great food and great fun at this cozy cafe. When leaving we were already anticipating a return visit. Blue Moon Cafe was definitely worthy of the praise given by Guy Fieri. more

overall excellent 11/22/2009

We go to blue moon about 10 times a year, and regardless of sometimes having to wait for a table the food is well worth the wait hobo eggs just love them and my husband looks forward to there french toast topped with anything or waffles topped with anything just mouth watering. Worth the drive LOVE IT!!!!!!! more

Just what we needed 11/18/2009

We waited a good hour or so, but why not walk around a bit before you stuff yourself with the best cinnamon roll, french toast, biscuits and cool staff. Good size portions to satisfy the long hunger. Thanks Gina, It was worth the trip from VA! We will be back. more

Looking for a great breakfast? 11/17/2009

Breakfast was great! The homemade biscuits are to die for. The cinamon rolls are absolutely the best I have ever tasted. Captain crunch french toast was teriffic and the homemade jelly was supurb. A great experience and Gina is a delight! Pros: Everything more

Worth the wait !!!!!! 11/14/2009

We waited in the misty rain for 1 hour, it was worth every second. The biscuts that are brought to the table, when you are seated, are wonderful. We always get an order of captain crunch french toast for the table ( the presentation will blow you away). The daily specials are my favorites. The wait staff (Gina) was very friendly and she made the atmosphere enjoyable. This was our 2nd visit and we will return again. Pros: the biscuts more

VERY GOOD FOOD, WONDERFUL TASTE 11/12/2009

The decor is kinda dark, almost gothic, BUT I enjoy the fact that they aren't afraid to be individuals and give their own personal touch to the decor....my partner in crime and I enjoyed the food:\r \r I had potatoe pancake was delicious because it contained bacon, peppers, and onions\r \r The captain crunch french toast was out of this world! Pros: PLENTY OF FOOD, PORTIONS LARGE Cons: CLOSES EARLY ON WEEKDAYS more

Worth the drive 11/11/2009

I was surprised to see how small the cafe was, but we were quickly seated at the counter. The dining area is quite cozy and charming and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves (always a good sign.) We started with the chocolate bun which I have to say is one of the most delicious things I've eaten in quite some time. Our meals were also quite tasty, and I feel compelled to address the amazing hashbrowns. Not quite sure how they can be so crispy on the outside and be filled with fluffy goodness on the inside. The kitchen was a tad bit slow, of which the owner apologized for. We didn't mind a bit and were happy as clams to be enjoying lunch. The only thing I would change would be the weather! Pros: deliciousness Cons: small dining area, kitchen a tad slow more

Best Breakast in Balto 11/11/2009

One look inside the Blue Moon and you have to realize that this is no ordinary restaurant. There are about 10 tables with little room for anything else, and basically one server. So anyone who complains about the long wait or the lack of space will never appreciate this little diner. After a 30 minute wait on a Wednesday morning, our waitress apologized about 15 times to us, which was unnecessary, since we knew what to expect. She took our order in less than 5 minutes and 10 minutes later we had a hot, fresh breakfast in front of us. The Capt Crunch french toast is out of this world, the omlettes are stuffed with fresh ingredients and the cinnamon rolls are sinful. The portions are large and you will not leave feeling hungry. The waitress was extremely friendly and efficient, especially considering the room full of diners. 30 minutes outside in the cold and the rain was nothing compared to the warm feeling we felt when we left! Expect a wait (hey they were featured on DDD after all!), but go here anytime you're in the mood for a relaxed and fantastic meal!!! Pros: delicious everything, laid back attitude Cons: long wait more

World's Greatest Cinnamon Bun 10/30/2009

I went there on a Friday morning about 10 am. I had to wait about ten minutes to get seated. It was well worth it. The Captain Crunch French Toast was wonderful. The cinnamon bun was out of this world. Go to the Blue Moon Cafe to enjoy life. I took a cinnamon bun to a buddy of mine. He called me up to tell me I was right. This cinnamon bun does not need butter, but is great on it's own. Pros: French Toast and Cinnamon Bun Cons: It is fifty miles from where I live. more

Fresh Breakfast 10/25/2009

This was a very good place for breakfast with a nice portion. Hashbrowns were perfectly cooked and eggs nice and fluffy. Pros: Nice and Hot Cons: lack of space more

Horrible weekday service 10/21/2009

I live in this community and like to frequent the local establishments. I went on a weekday morning, Tuesday. There were only 7 people in the restaraunt when I got there. I was served a drink and given a menu. Then nothing. 20 minutes later, 3 more patrons came in and got their order taken and I was still waiting, as the waitress looked at me several times but would not take my order. I gave her the benefit of the doubt for another 10 minutes. Then it just wasn't worth it. I left money on the table for my ice tea, with a tip, and left. The service was absolutely horrible, no matter what I've heard about the food, it does not make up for the bad service. Not that they care, but I won't be back. Pros: Good word of mouth, but lacking on follow through Cons: Horrible service more

Best Breakfast Ever!!! 10/19/2009

Absolutely the best breakfast I have ever had outside of our home. The menu selection satisfies every palate from the basic foodie to the adventurous foodie. We struggled on deciding what to select so we asked our waitress and she did not disappoint us. Worth the wait in the rain. Food and service complement each other equally. Pros: Close one -- both the food and service were excellent Cons: Waiting outside in the rain more

Everything I thought and more! 9/21/2009

I saw the Food network show on this place and my husband is from Baltimore so I mentioned I would like to go try it one day...so for our anniversary he suprised me by taking me there! There was a wait which we expected..so while we waited we walked around Fells Pointe...which is a beautiful area and came back and got seated! We ordered the captain crunch french toast to share, I ordered the crab, brie and bacon omelet and my husband ordered the mexican omelet with a side of cream chipped beef...we enjoyed every bite! The best french toast I ever had and the chiped beef was amazing! We had wonderful service,,,everyone was very friendly and we plan on making this a tradition and taking our kids next time! Pros: Great food more

ABSOULUTELY DELIGHTFUL! 9/17/2009

I heard about the cafe on the Food Network, I believe it was the Diners, DriveIns and Dives show and had been wanting to visit ever since they featured the Capn Crunch F/T. WE WERE OVER SATISFIED! The food was awesome, the fruit was fresh, the eggs were perftect, the hash browns were yummy and they even had grilled, peppered turkey to safisfy us non-pork, non-beef eaters. We had the day off and are ecstatic that we chose to spend it here. We will be back and we told all of our friends. Thank you for an awesome experience. Pros: WEEKDAY, MID-DAY...NO WAIT Cons: NO LATE NITE MUNCH FEST HERE... more
