The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Great Food Weird Atmosphere 7/13/2009

I went to the Blue Moon Cafe last Thursday for the first time. My food was amazing and I even got a chance to thank one of the Chefs. Her name was Amanda, and she had come out of the kitchen to help the waitress (Who was clearly overwhelmed) clear tables and run some food. She made sure my coffee was full and I asked about the cinnamon rolls which she said she had baked this morning. They were delicious! I also had Heovo Rancheros, and she had said it was her mother her cooked that for me. How cute to have a mother daughter team in the kitchen! I was a little dissappointed by the wait but was more then happy with the food. If the chef hadn't come out of the kitchen, it wouldn't have been as pleasant of an experience, but she really did make us feel at home. My partner tried the Red Velvet Pancakes, which were a special that day, that the chef who visited my table appearantly came up with. They tasted just like the red velvet cake I remember as a child that my grandmother made, and were great topped with the fresh strawberries. Our server was a little absent during our meal but she had a lot to do that day. But the chef coming to our table really made the visit special. The girl who was bussing tables, who spoke little english, was also very helpful, she was buzzing around like a bee making sure people had drinks and tables were clean. It seems to me that the staff is all very friendly and get a long and make it a fun experience to work together. The only downside was when we went to leave an exterminator came in with traps in his hands and said very casually that he would just drop those off in the basement. I understand they need to take precautions against vermin but it was unprofessional of the guy to waltz in the dinning room like that. The two ladies in the kitchen (Amanda who we met, and the lady I assume is her mother) came out quickly to remove the gentleman and have him be a little more discreet. The owner also came in that day, with her little dog in her arms. I'm okay with dogs but I can see how other people might not want a dog walking through the kitchen where there food is being prepared. Overall, I think the kitchen chefs, were amazing and friendly and keep that place going. Their food was exceptional and the fact she came to talk to us was so special to me. I'd gladly visit again, but I want to make sure it's the same cooks. I overheard other customers talking about how the baking was good that day, and now that I know there are different cooks on different days, I'd make sure it was Amanda and her mother in the kitchen for my next return. Pros: best cinnamon rolls in town, amazing red pancakes Cons: long wait, pets on site more

If You Like Dogs Hovering Over Your Food....... 6/3/2009

About a month ago, I ate at Blue Moon for breakfast. My seat gave me a terrific view of the kitchen. I was astonished to see the owner carrying her dog under her arm, yet above the food being prepared for customers. I told the waitress but the owner disregarded my concern. The person at the table next to us said that he had noticed the same thing. If the owner disregarded my concern, who knows what else happens at this place. more

Amazing Breakfast Restaurant 5/24/2009

I am a huge breakfast fan and very critical when it comes to various breakfast delights. This restaurant is truly amazing! I enjoyed the special of the day....a Spicy Crab Omlette and a short stack of the world famous Captain Crunch French Toast! Any time I am in or near Baltimore, I will always drop by and enjoy the best breakfast I ever had. In addition, the service was great and food delivered with a smile!! more

Best Breakfast of my life 5/22/2009

My friend convinced me to go out to breakfast this morning, even though I am not a breakfast person. I am VERY happy that I went, and am now craving breakfast again 5 hours later. I told the waitress, who then had me tell the cook myself, it was the best breakfast of my life. My breakfast included earl's vegetarian eggs benedict with a side of hashbrowns, and a short stack of their AMAZING captain crunch french toast. If you go there- you have to try the french toast- I'm not even a huge captain crunch fan, but for some reason, this was mind bogglingly good. It was topped with powdered sugar and whipped cream and an assortment of fruit, which all went together perfectly. If you are in Baltimore, you should definitely go- if you don't want as long of lines apparently go on a weekday when they open at 7 until 9, after that prepare to wait. However, the line did move fast. Enjoy! Pros: delicious food, fun setting, down home feel Cons: crowds more

Best Breakfast in Baltimore-Hands Down!! 5/15/2009

I'm not a big breakfast eater (cereal and I'm good) but this place will make you want to eat breakfast everyday! Although we were told the wait was 10-15 minutes, it wound up more like 45 min but once we were seated, it was CLEAR why this place has a wait and I'd wait over and over for an awesome food experience as this!\r \r We were served by one of the owner's with amazing tattoos up and down her arm and could not have been more pleasant, if we were sitting in her kitchen. Of course we HAD to have the Capn' Crunch French Toast featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives...AMAZING!!!! I can't use enough positive ""food"" words to describe this entree but I will say, I don't think I can go there without ordering it. We also ordered the ham & cheddar omelet and the special of the day which was Bacon, Lump Crab and Brie omelet - again, all awesome!! This place needs to expand (9 tables) so that more people can enjoy the amazing food served, without having such a long wait. \r \r A little air conditioning on a hot day wouldn't hurt either. :-) I will definitely be back!!\r \r Pros: Food is Worth the Wait Cons: You Have to Wait a Bit more

Blue Moon - I am in love 5/3/2009

We drove 80 miles one (160 miles round trip) from Leesburg VA to taste the treats of the Blue Moon Cafe on a damp day in country - and it delivered the best breakfast I have had in two years. \r \r The area of Fells Point (once I realized where we were going) is not a dump. The area around it is, but stay in Fell's Point and you will be fine.\r \r We were personally served by one of the owners and she did a great job once we got seated. I loved the full sleeves of ink she had and she was very friendly for running her butt off all morning. \r \r The food was nothing short of spectacular. We started with warm, home made biscuits (which I am generally not a fan of) but these made me a believer. They were fresh, soft and had a nice crispy top. They were served with fresh blue berry jam (home made too I might add). My wife and I shared a huevos rancheros to start, and it was INSANE. Lots of great heat from the salsa verde and the home style Chorizo!!! I have eaten huevos a million times at real Mexican restaurants, but none touch this place.\r \r We then split a short stack of their house special - Captain Crunch French Toast. Crispy outside, warm chewy inside, with flavors of cinnamon and sugar. It was everything that you could ever want for breakfast. \r \r We split both dishes and left satiated. \r \r It was raining today, so if you make the trek, bring an umbrella and be prepared for long waits. When we checked in, we were told 45 minutes to wait. We waited close to 70 minutes and wound up sharing a table with a couple guys just so we could finally eat. It is hard to complain though. Great food, cool spot and good company. If I lived closer, I would be 100 lbs over weight. \r \r Thanks for keeping fresh food affordable.\r \r Dallas in Leesburg\r \r Pros: Unreal food quality mixed with generous quantity Cons: LONG Wait!!! more

WOW A Great Place to Eat. 5/2/2009

Okay this was the place on that cool Food Network show. I can see why this place was selected. Yeah okay there was a bit of a wait, because the place is a little small. But Hello, a bit of a wait in a time when places are closing up. Thats a good sign.\r Now the food, clearly made from scratch cinnamon bun to start with was great. Each bite a freshness and burst of flavor.\r Followed that up with the Captain Crunch French Toast which was bursting with flavor. Whoever had this idea should get some sort of prize. The combination of flavors was remarkable, and talk about filling, I am taking off from eating for the rest of the day.\r The wife got this omlette with crab, ham and chedder cheese, and she smiled the whole time. Once again she talked using the terms freshness and flavor. Even the hash browns tasted very good. \r The service was top notch. First thing was a apology for the wait, which was considerate. Then a reading of the specials, then a informative discussion about our choices. Contant refills of drinks without asking, very professional!\r The place is a little over the top with the decor but that is to be expected. It location is unique so it would be expected that the inside would be unique. \r Look so many chains have lost the things that make this place so special. This place is so worth a visit for a breakfast, and you would be wise to take part. Pros: Fresh Food Cons: Bit of a wait more

Wow, what a breakfast! 4/27/2009

Indescribably good! The French Toast is better than you can possibly imagine. more

Outstanding and worth a wait 4/24/2009

Despite a longish wait, even at 10 am on Friday, this place was special at every turn. The menu began by offering unique twists on breakfast classics. Then, every dish delivered. Fresh, I mean really fresh, orange juice teased us to begin the feast. The Mexican omelet, even minus the cheese for our lactose intolerant one, was a superb balance of fluffy egg and savory, wonderfully spiced, filling paired with a huge helping of delightfully buttery hash browns and an incredibly light biscuit. The other adult in our party had the Full Moon with the Captain Crunch French Toast and scrambled eggs. That too was very well-received - everything was notably fresh. It was not the cereal on top of the French toast, but the bread inside, which won her praise. I can verify that it was delicious. The younger (9 year old) member of the party was thrilled with her cinnamon roll and a side of sausage. The adults each got some of the cinnamon roll and were equally ecstatic in their reviews - Best. Cinnamon. Roll. Ever. The staff were helpful and cheerful, and just attentive enough to meet our every need quickly and efficiently. We will definitely come back and tomorrow, when they might be even busier, we already plan to do take out! Pros: Outstanding preparation of great ingredients! Cons: Long wait, even weekday mid-morning more

Fabulous Breakfast 4/24/2009

Fabulous French Toast 4/23/2009

If you want a memorable breakfast, come early, or off hours. You'll want to relax, enjoy the meal, and siiiip the coffee. The French toast is unique, and wonderfull. I had a great time. Pros: Very intimate, and homey Cons: Avoid Sat and Sun rush times more

We must have missed something---- 4/19/2009

We were told our wait would be 45 minutes. We were seated an hour and 50 minutes later. Waitress was sullen and curt. After being seated and eventually having our order taken, we waited another 40 minutes to get our food. We spotted hollandaise sauce being poured out of plastic tub onto our crab/bacon eggs benedict. Not a great visual. Eggs were too gooey. Bacon was cold & hard. (We noticed a few strips of it under our table when we sat down). Crab was cold. French toast that we ordered was pleasant. The part of the hash browns that were actually cooked were good. Other diner's waffles looked good as did the biscuits we didn't order. Very pricey and ridiculous amount of time devoted to that meal. Doubtful that we would return. Pros: Things we didn't order looked tasty. Cons: Meals did not meet expectations. more

Amazing amazing 4/10/2009

Awesomeness! 4/9/2009

Went to the Blue Moon Cafe on a Sunday morning after a long night on the town for my Bachelor Party. Got the recommendation from a few friends and we showed up with a party of 5. Waited about an hour because of the popularity and the limited space but once we were inside, it was an amazing experience. The atmosphere is unspeakable, the decor is fun and the people are down to earth and friendly. My party ordered some of the specials and some of the guys ordered two meals for themselves with an order of the French Toast to share. We were blown away by our experience...there aren't many people like our waitress, who I am pretty sure owns the place. At one point in the morning, after running ragged and making sure that every table was satisfied, she dropped by and we all had an awesome conversation...""Sunday Fun Day!"" We had a humongous order and when it took longer than she had hoped, she dropped by and slapped a Homemade Cinnamon Bun down and said ""betcha can't be mad at that!"" and we certainly weren't. Everything rocked at this place, the food was awesome and even the plates added to our visit... we looked down to see that we all had different ones and it just made us laugh. Very cool. Long story short, I plan on going back tomorrow morning...and I live in Annapolis! If you like good breakfast, GO HERE! Pros: Captain Crunch French Toast is to DIE FOR! Cons: The Wait....but damn is it worth it! more

Great Breakfasts 4/9/2009

Good food. Casual dining. I went there after hearing about it several magazines, and the Food Network. I would recommend their captain crunch french toast, huge cinnamon rolls, and crab omelets. Pros: Everything is HOME MADE - EVERYTHING Cons: Long wait more

Amazing Specials. 3/14/2009

I went in to eat again this week and they had a special of Red Velvet Pancakes, which were absolutely delicious. The waitress told me one of the girls in the kitchen came up with it while baking, and boy am I glad that she did, they were DELICIOUS. I hope to see them as a special again soon and would gladly come in just to eat them again. My partner ate the Cap'n Crunch French Toast, which is equally amazing, but the pancakes definitely are right up there with it. We also shared a cinnamon roll! I'd love to meet the owner but they said she wasn't around, I also asked to meet the girl who made the pancakes but the server told me she couldn't leave the kitchen at that moment as she was doing the baking. (The baking that day was extra yummy. I'd make a point to go in just when I know it's the same person again cooking.) Keep up the delicious work Blue Moon, I plan to start coming in regularly for pancakes! Pros: great red velvet cakes Cons: small wait but worth it more

Just as Guy said it would be! 3/11/2009

I saw this place on triple ""D"" on the food network. I love the show and have tried most of the places they talked about in the Baltimore area. Well I just went to the Blue Moon, and let me tell ya... it knocked my socks off. That french toast is to die for! Three thumbs up to the blue moon! The hash browns are really great, and I still can't figure out why. They were just simple hash browns. I people working there were just down and out great! Very friendly and just fun to talk to! \r If you've never been to the Blue Moon, I have to tell you, you need to go! Try to go during the week because there is no wait at all!! Pros: I've never had french toast like this before in my life! Cons: Would be very crowded on the weekends more
