The food can be good, depending on who's in the kitchen. The cinnamon buns are the best, by far. Avoid french toast unless you like is undercooked. The biscuits and jam are great....

Best Breakfast in Baltimore! 3/10/2009

Unbelievable food. Service to match. Baltimore's best breakfast. Quite possibly, the best breakfast on the East Coast. more

Blue Moon Cafe, another charm for Baltimore 3/9/2009

I had heard about this delightful cafe' on the Food network and wondered if the food was as good as the show indicated. The Blue Moon Cafe' in Fells Point is even better! The food was excellent, the staff wonderful, helpful and enjoyed working there as evidenced by their smiles and commaraderie, and the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. The food portions were very generous, even short stacks of large pancakes, french toast or waffles. I would suggest everyone order their favorite morning food and then order a short stack of the Captain Crunch waffles for the table to share- what a treat! I will be bringing all of my out-of-state family and friends here to show off yet another charm that Baltimore has. In addition to the great food, the location is great to for walking around Fells Point and sight-seeing. And as far as my local friends and I, we're already planning our next visit. Pros: Great taste and portion size, wonderful staff, convenient location, good parking Cons: Wish the restaurant was a bigger more

A Great way to beat the Breakfast Blues 3/8/2009

As a 'bonafide Balitmorean'- I've found Blue Moon to be one of the best spots to take my out of town guests. It boasts one of the better breakfasts in the city and the wait time is similar to that found at other restaurants. If you're really impatient, then I suggest you go early- but be assured the food is well worth the wait and absolutely delicious. I have yet to find a tastier cinnamon roll and would highly recommend their Mexican omelette and the vegetarian eggs benedict. The cafe has a great family and just generally comfy feeling to it- So next time you're in the mood for a good Breakfast- make it a Blue Moon breakfast. more

Best Breakfast Around 3/7/2009

I am from Ohio and am in love with Diners Drive ins and Dives, so when I saw the Blue Moon Cafe on the show, I knew I had to go. This was my first to visit from the show, and after reading the reviews I had no complaints at all. I went on a Tuesday at 7 am right when it opended. The waitress was very hospitable and we got our delicious food right away. Excellent Omlets, Captain Crunch French Toast was amazing along with the hot chocolate and cinnamon roll. HIGHLY Recommended...Go early though, it fills up fast even during the day. Pros: Excellent Food, Service Cons: No parking, park on the street more

Slow food goodness. 3/7/2009

The epitome of Baltimore attitude and character. The prices are great, the portions large, and the taste superb. They have all the basics, like omelets, scrambles, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and burritos. But they also have their own flavor available should you feel adventurous, like the Cap'n crunch french toast that was featured on Food Network. I go there often, and today tried, for the first time, the crab, brie and bacon omelet. It was a stroke of genius. I eat a lot of crab, and was a little hesitant when I said yes because one can have too much crab. But the combination of the flavors made the omelet really unique and tasty. \r \r Blue Moon makes all their meals fresh, at least thats what they say, and so their meals take a while to prepare. If you don't arrive early in the morning on the weekend (before 8 30) be prepared to wait to be seated, and then wait to be served. If you want your food fast, go somewhere else! That isn't to say that the service is bad, you will get your coffee, drinks or cinnamon bun right away, but your main entree is being carefully prepared, and just won't come as fast as in other breakfast joints. But this is part of the charm. Go there to relax, then eat, then relax some more.\r Pros: Great Food, Great Prices, Great People Cons: If you want your food like you want your McDonalds, don't go there! more

Great Food, Bad Service 3/4/2009

The food here is out of this world. Unfortunately, the service is not very good. I really can't blame the wait staff though--they usually have one person handling all the orders and the multitudes of people waiting and another person to bus tables. The owners need to hire more poeple! more

Worth the wait and the crowd! 3/4/2009

AMAZING food! It is a pain to wait to eat anywhere but once you taste the food at Blue Moon you will see that it was well worth the wait! Usually breakfast is breakfast, but here it is SO much more! Try the breakfast burritos and cinnamon bun french toast. Go late-night if you want less of a crowd. more

You measure up to the hype!! 3/3/2009

I was flying into Baltimore on Monday 3/2/09 to meet with a friend and he told me he had to take me to this place that was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The ironic thing is I had just watched an episode that made Captain Crunch french toast and I had tried making it for the guys I work with at the firehouse. I say 'tried' because I kept burning the crunch. Little did I know this was the place he was taking me to. Yes I had the french toast and it was great! The added bonus was we didn't have to wait, as my friend prepared me for that scenario. But it would have been worth waiting for. A totally enjoyable experience...don't miss out on it. Though I couldn't get you to tell me the secret to not burning the toast, I'll keep trying. And I look forward to the next time I'm in your city to seeing you again. If you are ever in Ashtabula, Ohio...please stop into the Ashtabula Fire Dept. and make these guys the Captain Crunch French Toast. You are great people. Pros: Comfortable, pleasant, friendly...great food! Cons: Can't think of any... more

Absolute MUST for Baltimore's Best Breakfast 3/3/2009

As you look at all of the reviews for this restaurant, you will see a recurrent theme regarding the length of time waiting for a table. First, I don't care where you go at 11:30 on Sunday morning, even Denny's, you are going to be waiting!! This is a unique, SMALL gem of a restaurant with fantastic food served in a ""stress-free"" atmosphere. The wait staff has never been rude or indifferent, they actually have a personality and have a sarcastic, and engaging, sense of humor. There are only about a dozen tables in the entire restaurant, and during peak periods if you are a party of three or more you WILL be waiting while parties of one or two may be seated significantly sooner than you ... because they MAY be seated with their new best friends, previously called ""strangers"", at one of the larger tables with empty seats. It is part of the experience, charm and personality of the place. The food is fantastic and the portions are HUGE. The Cap'n Crunch French Toast is as advertised ... remarkable with mounds of homemade whipped cream. The bacon and sausages are thick cut, prepared perfectly with a slight crunch and the portion sizes leave even the largest appetites satisfied. Every egg dish or omelette is served on a platter that resembles a hub cap, with food falling over the sides. The hash browns are cooked with butter, which gives them a unique taste and texture usually not found in restaurant prepared food. The cinnamon rolls and biscuits are about the size of softballs, and could easily have an entire review just about them !! The local Bluebird blend coffee, served hot and plentiful in bottomless mugs, is worth the trip itself. The Blue Moon Cafe is located in Fells Point, which is the heart of the Baltimore Inner City revival, and the restaurant is surrounded by quirky shops, restaurants and an artisan atmosphere seen in places like Austin, TX and Aspen, CO. A Baltimore original, this place should be on the list of things to do while visiting town. Pros: Food, ambience, originality Cons: You will be waiting during peak times more

IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THE BLUE MOON CAFE! 3/3/2009

I have been going to the Blue Moon for the last two years and I plan on going as long as they are there. The food is consistently awesome and you can't find a menu like theirs anywhere else! (I'm salivating as I type just thinking about the huevos rancheros and the breakfast burritos!...........And then there's the cap'n crunch french toast. WOW!). I love that the staff is laid-back and down to earth. I deal with enough ""stuffed shirts"" in my business. If there is a wait, it's because it's worth it and it is usually less than they say. It is a ""must"" with my out of town guests as well as locals. There's nothing like it on a Saturday morning or even after a Saturday night out on the town. Pros: Food, staff, atmosphere Cons: I can't get there enough! more

Great Food, Terrific Service, Don't miss this ONE!!! 3/2/2009

My husband and I enjoyed a delightful breakfast here on Saturday morning. The food was out of this world and our server. Gina, was an absolute doll. The environment was very friendly, and the time we spent waiting- we enjoyed some nearby shops. If you ever have a chance to visit the Blue Moon Cafe please do so, you will not be dissapointed. We travelled from Philly to spend the day in Baltimore, and we will definetely be back for some great food, and great fun!!!!!! Pros: Great food, great service more

Best Breakfast in Baltimore 3/1/2009

This small but unique resturant is a gem. Went on 3-1-09 and did not get there early, the wait was 45 min but we were told it would be an hour. As soon as we sat down the coffee was there, very good along with a hot cinnamon bun. Breakfast was also quick and good as we had the potato pancake and capt crunch french toast. The fruit that decorated the plate was ripe and perfect. We will be back often. The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming and made you feel comfortable in spite of the crowd. Must try when in baltimore between Harbor East and Fells Point. A place for the locals.\r Pros: Food fresh and well made, they know how to use and highlight the ingredients. Cons: Wish they were bigger, more

Good food, cramped quarters 2/27/2009

The two of us got there at 10:00 on a Fri and were seated in about 20 minutes. Staff was busy but attentive..this is not the place where the waitress stops and talks for 20 minutes. We shared a cinnamon roll which (please don't tell my mom) was better than momma's! We then both got the Capt. Crunch French Toast with sides of hash browns...whoa. Sugar overload! Never had french toast that didn't need syrup. Hash browns were good but too much butter. Overall, I'd go back but only when I'm in a patient mood. Food was killer but sometimes you'd rather have a relaxing experience with good food and good coffee. Pros: Food, service Cons: wait, cramped quaters, rushed feeling more

Atrocious Treatment 2/19/2009

After arriving at 8am, our party of 3 was told that the wait would be about 25 minutes. After waiting for 1 hour and 15 minutes, I expressed my concern to the staff that we had been waiting too long and that many people that came in behind us had been seated; the staff responded that they didnt care. Come to find out, the staff had been seating four tops with two unaffilitated couples each to keep the tables full. We left, and will not be back, no matter how good the food is. The staff are all young and do not know what they are doing. more

WORST SERVICE, TRASHY SNOB WAITRESSES 12/29/2008

I live a block from this place and I've tried to go to eat here at least 5 times but have only successfully been able to sit down and eat once. The line is ridiculous. If they say it'll be an hours wait, expect to wait 2. If its nice you can wait outside but if its cold expect to be packed like sardines in a corner with all the other people waiting to be seated. After waiting for 45 minutes I tried to order take-out and they completely ignored me. The waitresses are a$$-holes, they aren't polite. I think the message they are trying to send everyone is - if you don't put up with us then leave because we'll get plenty of business without you. If you want breakfast in Fell's Point go to Theresa's in the Broadway Market, at least you'll be supporting nice, down to earth people as opposed to trashy people who think they're too good for their customers just because they were on TV. Pros: unique menu Cons: hole in the wall, not a good value, feel as though you are being pushed out the door, long wait for sh!tty service more
