Great PulledPork & Chicken sandwiches 11/23/2009

I ordered a half pound of brisket, it passed the tender test, falling apart as I picked up a single slice and was pleanty moist. It was lacking a bit of flavor. Paired up with BBQ sauce, it became much better. Perhaps I am a bit spoiled in the brisket department, so take a 3/5 on brisket as better than most! By comparison, BigLou's whips the crap out of russell st , smokehouse and tennessee red's, and at a fraction of the cost. Pros: Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Beefribs Cons: brisket more

Very good barbecue 8/30/2009

I have a mission in life. A couple of years ago, I found my reason d' etre...to selflessly and boldly identify the best barbecue within a stones throw of PDX. This involves the barbecuing of meat...ambiance, side orders and service are non-factors. So far, Big Lou is it. Pros: meat more

GREAT SMOKING BBQ 7/21/2009

As a Texas who has ""specialized"" in real bbq (smoked meats - not grilled) for over 50 years, I am pleased to report that Big Lou has mastered the smoking process for his meats, especially the brisket. Great smoked taste which requires no sauce (although his sauce is excellent). I ate recently at Sonny Bryans in Dallas (which is known throughout the bbq world), and Lou's smoked brisket was better. We also love his pulled pork and fried okra. Deserts are quite good also. We are fortunate to have some really good real Texas BBQ in the area. Pros: Great smoked brisket more

Excellent BBQ 2/26/2009

The first time I ate at Big Lou's I had a Big Lou Potato and was hooked! I started trying everything and to my surprise the potato ended up being one of my least favorite things there. Everyone has got to try REAL brisket, slow smoked, wonderful peppery crust. The Pulled Pork is always the most tender and juicy meat I have ever tasted and the Virginia style sauce is to die for, made by Big Lou's wife. The kids love the mac and cheese, which is also a Mrs. Big Lou recipe. But if your not that into bbq, you have to at least try the steaks, which are truly melt in your mouth marinaded to perfection goodness (they are worth the one month of waiting anxiously). The customer service is always great, your always greeted with a smile, and most of the time its Big Lou smiling at you as you walk through the door. I truly hope if you live in Camas or Washougal you try this place, its worth every penny and you will never walk away hungry. Pros: Authentic BBQ, Customer Service Cons: Steak Night is only once a month more

Best BBQ in Town!!! 12/6/2007

I eat at this restuarant all the time and it is the BEST BBQ around! The brisket is tender, the ribs are meaty, and the Big Lou's Potato will fill any hearty appetite. I've used Big Lou's for catering in our office numerous times as well with no complaints from my co-workers what so ever! This place is well worth the drive and the Saturday Steak Nights each month are too die for!! Watch for the Smoked Prime Rib...you'll never want to eat regular prime rib again!!! Pros: Outstanding BBQ!!! more

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS FOLKS!! 12/6/2007

If you're into authentic Texas BBQ and a friendly people then Big Lou's is your place. The beef brisket is slow smoke over mesquite 12 hours, the ribs are to die for and don't even get me started on their monthly steak night which is practically standing room only for cooked to order steaks that melt in your mouth as does the smoked prime rib on the special nights that those are offered. The sweet potato pies are home made and wonderful if you manage to still have room for them after your meal. Pros: Best BBQ and personal service in the NW Cons: can be hard to find seating on Steak Nights more

Best BBQ in town 12/6/2007

I have eaten BBQ all across the south and in Texas and I will put Big Lou's up against anyone. It is clearly the best BBQ in town. The food is great and the service is wonderful. I can't believe anyone had a bad experience at Big Lou's. Contrary to the prior review, the portions are large. I have never left unsatisfied, and often have some for a meal the next day. The brisket is not dry, it is cooked with care, and the sauces are great, but not even needed. If you are in need of a great BBQ meal, go to Big Lou's. Pros: Ribs and Brisket are the best I have ever had more

disappointing and cold on a plastic enclosed porch 11/12/2007

My family and I drove all the way out to Big Lou's, (we live in Portland) encouraged and excited by the reviews that we read here. You see, I was born and raised in Texas, near Big Lou's hometown. Like most Texans, I feel that I know good BBQ and Big Lou's was not. Sure it was good ""enough"" but the brisket was dry and fairly unflavorable. I ""Texas-sized"" my meal and found the portions to be quite small. I can't imagine how little they would have been had I gotten the regular plate. Maybe it was just a bad night but I got the feeling that almost everything that we ate was old and had been hastily microwaved. The cornbread was downright bad. We didn't complain because it wasn't horrible, just terribly disappointing. The girls working were pretty friendly and we certainly didn't feel like ruining their evening by being rude. Shame on you, Lou, for misrepresenting good Texas style barbeque. Oh, and they had almost no dessert left on a Saturday night! Pros: ribs were pretty good and they have Big Red soda Cons: everything else more

Nothing Fancy, Just great BBQ 6/22/2005

Everyone from the employees's to the customer's were incredibly friendly. And the food was great. I was impressed to see the owner come around a check on everyone. Don't expect your traditional sit down restaurant, and don't dress up for it. Jus tenjoy a good selection of BBQ food. more

Best TEXAS BBQ in the Northwest! 9/14/2004

Great, great food in a traditional bbq ""joint"" atmosphere. The smoked brisket melts in your mouth, the smoked chicken is heavenly and youd be a fool leave without stepping up to the challenge of eating a Big Lous potato. They have all sorts of other smoked delicacies, as well and we like to get up there at least once a month to eat. My wife and I usually get a sampler plate each to try a little of everything. Decor is very whimsical with all sorts of Texas memorabilia and an incredible mural on the side of the building depicting their journey from Texas to Washington. The owners are extremely friendly and love to come out and chat it up. Very much a down home feeling that is rarely found here up in the Northwest. I highly recommend the beautiful drive to Camas for the food! Pros: Friendly Serivce, Incredible menu, Easy to find more
