My family and I drove all the way out to Big Lou's, (we live in Portland) encouraged and excited by the reviews that we read here. You see, I was born and raised in Texas, near Big Lou's hometown. Like most Texans, I feel that I know good BBQ and Big Lou's was not. Sure it was good ""enough"" but the brisket was dry and fairly unflavorable. I ""Texas-sized"" my meal and found the portions to be quite small. I can't imagine how little they would have been had I gotten the regular plate. Maybe it was just a bad night but I got the feeling that almost everything that we ate was old and had been hastily microwaved. The cornbread was downright bad. We didn't complain because it wasn't horrible, just terribly disappointing. The girls working were pretty friendly and we certainly didn't feel like ruining their evening by being rude. Shame on you, Lou, for misrepresenting good Texas style barbeque. Oh, and they had almost no dessert left on a Saturday night!
Pros: ribs were pretty good and they have Big Red soda
Cons: everything else
