Don't bother unless you want to be insulted 7/24/2011

The food was better than average bar food - but don't expect to pay bar food prices. We ordered appetizers, a mix of entrees and dessert (the works) and everything was ok. The cherry on top of our otherwise mediocre evening was to have the very witchy hostess (I could use other terminology but wanted to keep this review rated G) come over and literally kick us out of our table because she had another reservation coming in. Mind you, no one had bused our table - I barely even paid the check. Look, missy, if you need the table, plan better or at least do the right thing and have your staff bus tables properly or offer a special incentive like ""come to the bar and have a free drink"". Anything but how she handled this would have been better. more

Great Place for a late weekend drink 6/15/2010

Great drinks and good service. However a bit expensive but what do you expect in the Marina. It's also not that crowded usually so you can actually have a conversation without shouting for the most part. A good chill weekend lounge spot. They serve food late too which is a plus. Pros: Great atmosphere and generally not too crowded Cons: Expensive more

THE WORST 6/23/2009

I couldn't believe how bad the service was and there were only a hand full of customers. It got way worse from there. My wife got a salad that was BROWN and smelled like garbage. When we tried to return it, the manager told us that it wasn't that bad. Wow. Pass on this place. Too many other great choices in LA. Cons: The food is SOOOOO disgusting! Never go! Yuck! more

Not Worth A Dime 5/18/2009

We (7 people) spent three hours drinking and eating and then were asked to move inside because another party showed up. They movedus near the bthroom area indoors. Manager was the worst - snapped at me and told me to sit down. Waste of money especially for No happy hour with bad attitude and rude service. Plenty of great places down the street that appreciate your business. more

Great for big groups, good food for $ 2/25/2009

I went there with a party of 10. We ate in the ""back"" room. The front part of the house seemed much more happening so if I were a small party I'd recommend going without a rez and eating apps there. Scallop app was good as was the Duck confit. The one blemish was the Spaghetti Squash app that came out during the first course and also on the main course. It was way over garlic'd and I told the waitress that the chef had ruined the dish after we had our appetizers, and when it came out the second time, it tasted the same, so clearly they make the dish before service starts. Pork tacos very good. Salmon also very strong. We went on a friday night and it was very loud so if you are looking for an intimate spot the back room is not it, but you're better out front anyways. Service was very good and the Red Velvet cake for desert was solid as well. Overall great value considering how cheap the bill was. Pros: Menu, Service Cons: Spagetti Squash more

great place to hang out 6/29/2008

I have been to this place few times now and I honestly always enjoy the experience. I like the place itself and the atmosphere, and I love sitting around the fireplace. The food is pretty good, just not enough for the 4th star on my book. Overall I recommend it. It is the ideal place to catch up with a friend that you haven't seen in a while. Pros: ambience more

LAME Midget Redhead 'Manager' 6/3/2008

Wow. I used to come here alot and dealt with mediocre service, whatever---to be expected. But tonight= outright RUDE management.\r Way too long of a story to spend time on, but as a previous bar / club manager...i was met with the most ridiculously outright rude management imaginable for such a mediocre neighborhood bar.\r \r The owners of this 'bar' ought to be ashamed to have such a TOOL working as manager. Next time i'll bring my party of 20 plus to a competitor. Can't wait to see this place go down, they deserve it. more

Have had more pleasant experiences in a hospital cafeteria 5/27/2008

All reviews on this site commenting on the rude and arrogance of the staff here are entirely true. My husband and I went here for a nice quiet Saturday night dinner. We were led into an EMPTY dining room, with 3 of the approx 10 booths taken, and the rest of the free standing tables in the middle entirely empty. We asked, since there were several empty booths, if we could sit it one. They said, ""no, they are all reserved for large parties."" Five minutes later, another couple, walked into the restaurant, and were led to a crappy table like ours. They protested like we did and asked for a booth. When they stated they were going to leave if they did not get one were led to one immediately. When I asked the hostess staff and the manager what was going on, they stated, ""We were going to make them move anyway."" We promptly left the place.\r \r What a joke this place is. Who do they think they are? Talk to me when you can fill your tables at prime time on a Saturday night. It is clear that other people have figured out that this place is not worth it, as it is pretty much vacant. You have places all over LA to chose from. Don't waste your time with these people. Pros: When we left before even ordering, valets did not charge us Cons: Service, attitude, its empty more

Horrible service and management and over priced food 5/27/2008

I went to Beechwood for a friend?s birthday. Service was extremely slow. It took over 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive once ordered. I ordered the red snapper. When the waitress brought out my dish a horrible odor of fish engulfed the surrounding area. Fish is not supposed to smell, especially at the price Beechwood charges. My friend's tagliatelle with mushroom sauce was equally disappointing. Tagiatelle should be homemade and the mushroom sauce should be rich in an earthy mushroom flavor. Instead the tagaitelle was obviously store bought and rubbery and the sauce was simply butter with a few mushrooms and herbs. If you go here, only order from the small menu. My friend spoke with our waitress and manager about the long wait we had for our food. The manager was unfriendly and unsympathetic. He did not offer to discount our bill. Instead he placed two bouncers by the door to make sure we didn't skip on our bill. How much more low class can one be made to feel? What a disappointing birthday dinner for my friend. I will never go back. Pros: Nice atmosphere. Cons: Service, food, management more

TGI Fridays tying to be cool 5/17/2008

This hole in the wall is full of 21 year olds tring way too hard. The same is true of the staff. The place smells and everyone is standing around like there in a nice place. They dropped an order of fries on the floor and picked it up and served it. There are too many good places in ther area to waste your time and cash on this dump. The staff was rude. skip this place Pros: easy to find Cons: ambience, parking, service, food safety more

Average, over priced, poor service 5/17/2008

This could be a cute dive, but the snooty staff and car noice destroy any chance for a nice dinner. limited bar mean you can't get the brands you want. Staff not well trained. the patio is like a trash bumpseter enclosure. It's like a saterday night live skit about stuck-up service. go anywere else. Pros: near beach Cons: Staff, car noise more

Fun Place, good food 5/9/2008

\r We went to Beechwood the other night, the service was good. My girlfriend had Snapper and I had the chicken. Both were very good. I like the chicken more, but I ?m more of a steak and potatoes guy. My girlfriend loved the snapper enough to ask for the recipe. The drinks were fair priced and the cocktail list looked interesting. Overall we will be back to try more. more

Once upon a time this place was awesome! 5/3/2008

This is a hard one to write. I once loved Beechwood and would bring anyone there who came into town to visit, but until recent this place has gone from ""Great food and service"" to ""STAY AWAY."" I actually signed up for Citysearch just to write this. Something I would normally go to the management to complain about if this weren't specifically about him.\r I have been a patron of Beechwood since the pulled pork sandwich and Tatiana. (Both should still be there) Until the end of last year I used to walk into the restaurant and was greeted with three beautiful smiles from three ladies (Again, they should still be there, wish I remembered their names. I think one might have been Brooke???) great energy from the bar staff and servers, the music was always right and the food was beyond compare. Now I enter the restaurant and I get a grunt from the lobotomized hostess and a man (assuming he is the new manager) is braiding her hair. Not only is that foul to do in a restaurant, but offensive and downright inappropriate.\r The new staff is rude and inattentive...the feeling of being at a local joint is now gone. If you guys fired the last staff...BIG MISTAKE...if they quite, I understand. \r Again, I would have called the restaurant to make a complaint, but it was the managers offense, so the only way to get the message out is by writing. \r Please, if you are reading this and own Beechwood let's get back to business as usual Venice is waiting. Pros: The food is great and the restaurant looks cool Cons: Management and staff are rude and not worth the trip more

Horrible Service, Rude & Arrogant 2/24/2008

We have been to Beachwood numerous times. The food is really good, the drinks are weak/overpriced and the pompous waitresses and management are disgusting. They act like their patrons are lucky to be there, total jerks with no understanding of the service industry. I was there for my birthday last year and they tried to charge the entire bar tab to one credit card, saying that their ""policy"" is to only accept one credit card for groups, the waitress had a nasty attitude to go with it. Last night we met a few friends over there for drinks and bar food, then a few other friends showed up. The waitress accepted credit cards from each group of friends as we arrived but then charged different people for the wrong orders and refused to correct it. She acted the whole night like she was too busy and never came around. One of my friends wanted a drink so he went to the bar b/c the waitress was absent. Then she ran up to him at the bar and yells at him, saying that ""it isn't fair to her"". Our check was $40 over, and she said ""well you better go ask your friends (who left an hour before) for some money"" , then she gave herself an %18 tip. I spoke nicely to the manager who proceeded to defend his wait staff and made no effort to acknowledge an obvious problem. He basically said that it was our fault for coming in with a group and ordering too much??? Anyway, we go out drinking with friends every weekend and don't mind spending money. I guess we'll spend it somewhere else. The problem comes from the top, a friend told me that one of their wine suppliers canceled their account b/c the owner guy was so rude, arrogant and never wanted to pay their bill. Too many other great places in town to waste your time here. It's a shame b/c I do love Brooke Williamson's food. more

SKIP IT! 12/21/2007

i took a friend from manhattan and a friend from denmark to this dump. neither of them could figure out why in the world the doorman/bouncer or the bartender were so dang arrogant. the bartender told me that i ""need to tip"" him. uh, yea, real bright guy, stating the obvious. mind you, he said this as he was handing us our first round and i had left the tab open. duh, much? for a place that claims class, it employs the trashiest people. never again. we went down the street to the brig, where the bartenders know how to pour well and do so w/o pretension. and they're actually hip. beechwood, who are you kidding? embarassed to say this is a business establishment in my town. Pros: valet parking Cons: its existence in entirety more

Great food & atmosphere! 12/18/2007

I had a great time here. The only downside was that I had a reservation, but still had to wait about 30-45 min. to get a table. Fortunately, there's a great bar and heated patio. I highly recommend this place for drinks, dinner, or both. more

Hollywood attitude for no apparent reason... 11/17/2007

In two words, baseless arrogance. Despite a decor that would be cutting edge for a suburban Chili's in Wisconsin, the staff at the Beechwood seems to think that they belong on a movie set. After taking a friend from out of town to this disaster of a spot for drinks after dinner, I was rudely told by a bartender to close out my $12 tab immediately at 1:15 AM. Before I could sign out, a barback/ bouncer advised that I tip more next time (keep in mind here, I have lived here for less than six weeks and have never been to this place before)....\r \r While I am new to LA, as someone who has worked in the service industry of a well regarded ski town, I can say that an outdated and/or lame decor, poor service, and an aggressive attitude from staff is a losing combination. TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE AND BE TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THAT YOU DESERVE.... Cons: Service, outdated decor more
