We have been to Beachwood numerous times. The food is really good, the drinks are weak/overpriced and the pompous waitresses and management are disgusting. They act like their p...

Dreadful Service 5/13/2005

The terrible service at Beechwood negates the value of tasty food. The waitress couldn't have been less interested, it appeared to be a boring imposition to serve us. When the food server arrived with the entrees, he barked at us to ""move your salad plates out of the way so that I can put down your meals"" and the busboy literally grabbed up our dinner plates even as we were taking our last bites. Don't even get me started on how inconvenient it was to make a reservation. There are lots of great restaurants in LA with pleasant service, pass by Beechwood for one of them. more

Bad Hostess 5/10/2005

I made reservations on a tuesday night at 6 pm for myself, my fiance, and my grandmother. When we walked in, the hostess couldn't find our reservation and accused me of not making one. Finally when she did find the reservation, she told us to wait 5 minutes for no reason because the restaurant was EMPTY. Then, she had the nerve to seat another couple who was just enjoying drinks at the bar and make my 83 year old grandmother stand and wait until she decided we should be seated. This girl was HORRIBLE. The food was decent. I like the fact that there are options for small dishes and for full dinner. Our waiter was very very slow, but a nice guy, so we chalked it up to them just opening. Looks like a fun bar scene, even early in the week. more

Skip Dinner 4/24/2005

This place is all about the bar, which looked like quite the scene. The look of the restaurant was cool, but we were so crammed in that I wouldn't bother to go back. We got a table for two that was only inches away from couples on either side. I noticed a group of six was seated in a booth, and they looked a bit uncomfortable to me. My husband and I went for dinner, and will never go back nor would we recommend this place to someone for dinner. Our waiter was friendly when he was around, but was the service was very slow. Thank goodness no one was rude (I was a bit worried after reading some of the earlier posts!). The food was disappointing overall, but if you must eat there, I recommend the roasted chicken. Pros: cool bar scene Cons: cramped seating, poor service more

Rather unimpressive 4/21/2005

Went there with some friends last weekend because we heard it's the latest place on the Westside. Its has very nice ambience however was rather unimpressed with the service and clientele. It was just like a neiborhood hang out with very unattractive crowd. If thats your scene then go for it. Have a great time. more

Missed the Mark 4/21/2005

I just took my girl friend there with her friends for her b-day. We had reservation but still had to wait 25 minutes to be seated by one of the worst Hostesses I have ever seen. It took 30 minutes to get the wine. When the appetizers came out there were cold, literally. Everyone if the dinners were terrible, the Salmon was almost tasteless. Save you rmoney and just get drinks there, which by the way are grossly over priced weak cocktails. more

Fantastic Food, Wine and Vibe, but... 4/17/2005

I was so pleasantly surprised by the food, interior and service at Beachwood I can't wait to return. They have a really good and affordable wine list too! My only complaint was the hostess, who when we called to say we would be 10 minutes late she said no problem... but deleted our reservation by the time we arrived. They sorted it out within 15 minutes or so, not too bad. No apologies for the error though... She is clearly not the restaurants strongest asset. more

A++ Awesome Abience, Service & Food 4/15/2005

I'm so excited that I have a new place to eat in the Marina! This spot is perfect to just chill with friends. Service is fun and friendly. This place gets crowded - I recommend hanging out in the bar/patio area. I will definately be going again! ps=> The hamburger on the bar menu is awesome with the sweet potato fries! Pros: Service, Food, Ambience Cons: $4 Valet - oh well more

fantastic 4/10/2005

great bar scene, huge firepit outside - great plates small or big. It's everything you want from a new restaurant in Venice. Pros: get there early more

A Great Experience 3/31/2005

Went there for dinner with my wife for the third time and again was not disappointed. Everything about Beechwood is very good. The Food, the service and the general atmosphere are great and it is worth perservering for a booking. Beechwood is a great experience. more

Nasty Service 3/30/2005

I had dinner on a Tuesday night. To make a long story short, we had awful service. We ordered our main, appetizers and wine all together.. The appetizers and wine came to our table at the same time as a couple sat down next to us. We sat for another 4o minutes waiting, while the table next to us got drinks, appetizers, dinner and the desert menu. Waiter never came back so we asked another server for help, she got our waiter who slapped his head and ran into the kitchen. The manger, Nate, came over and said our food would be right out. 15 minutes later we left. The Manager said ""Sorry you couldn't wait for your meal."" Ahhh, What? more

Bad Service 3/30/2005

The worst service! The server did not know the menu or wine list....we overlooked the long wait for cocktails.... Thankfully, the food was excellent...but as soon as we began to relax and sing the praises of the new eatery...our server topped off the evening by complaining that we only gave her a 15% gratuity on the total bill...she explained that she normally gets 20%... We sent a formal complaint to management and received no follow up...not a peep. Apparently, they don't care about repeat business... Sadly, we were all very excited about a great new place to dine in the Marina area but the lack of follow up has put a bad taste in all of our mouths. Pros: great food, good prices Cons: bad service, no follow up more

Great Bar, forgo the food! 3/22/2005

An attractive, hip bar scene worth visiting again, but please, forget the food. We were seated acceptably late at a spacious booth, but had to wait 50 minutes for our curt server to take our orders. No apology, just, ""Do you know what you want yet?"" I was incredulous! Another 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and in the end we never did get one of the items we ordered. The food was fine but quite unremarkable. more

One part diner, one part hip bar scene 3/15/2005

Nice addition to the Venice/Marina del Rey city line. Ideally, the place to sit is in the good-sized bar area. Definitely try the marinated skirt steak. The service has been spotty-- good on slow nights at the bar, slow on busy nights in the dining area. Pros: bar scene, comfort food Cons: spotty service more

The Hostess is truly ridiculous.... 3/8/2005

After reading the review about Beechwood, I was plesantly surprised that another unfortuate couple came face to face with the EVIL hostess of this restaurant. After all, its VENICE, where people like to enjoy fine dining (and the food is lovely) in a slightly less hectic environment. The hostess was rude, gave looks of disgust and the evening I went, almost knocked us over to get to a model-looking guy with a trucker hat to give him and his group a seat....it was pretty disgusting. At the end of the day, when somone walks into a new establishment, they want to feel welcome and excited to spend their money...if the hostess continues, I doubt that anyone will feel welcome or happy. (although the valet guys were sweet...) All Beechwood needs to do is get rid of her and give someone else a shot..... more

Hip Wine Bar, Good Appetizers 3/6/2005

Finally, there is a hip place to go on Washington Blvd, by the Marina. Beechwood is opened late, even on the weekdays for food and drinks. The Humbolt fog goat cheese with roasted eggplant is mouthwatering. Sit outside by the fire for prime people watching. The waitresses are very friendly. It is hard to get to the bartender on the weekend. They have a good selection of wines by the glass. Pros: Open late, Ample seating, Small Plates Cons: Valet only more

Rude Hostess!!! We left! 2/19/2005

My date and I were early to our reservation, and arrived at 5:45. We didn't know that they opened at six pm. The rude hostess told us bluntly that we had to come back in fifteen minutes!!! We asked if it was ok to sit in the lounge area, and she said no. I could only imagine the service level if we actually we had ended up staying. more
