I purchased a Living Social voucher for a Couples Massage and it also included 2 glasses of wine. Everything about it was false advertising: 1 hour massage was only 40 minutes, my husband and I were in different rooms (not a couples thing at all), and they conveniently were ""out of wine and didn't have time to go get any."" The woman who did my massage was nice and did an OK job (however I am not positive my husband's person was trained - she hurt his spine several times!). The owner was there and she was discussing issues with the employees right in front of us! She gave no apology for the shortened massages and no wine. I could hear her on the phone the whole time I was getting a massage - the facility is not at all a ""spa"" - I am a relatively positive person who does not complain often. But, I would tell people to NOT go here if you are looking for anything other than weird experience. Sorry Ava - it was not good. more

A long with excellent service and great results, I have always felt welcomed, it is a small intimate salon and I have always felt comfortable - unlike the larger salons which can be intimidating and much more expensive ! Ana is great ! more

wow something does smell and sound fishy at ava's all i know is its false advertisement, the owner ""ava"" is rude and lack of business owning, and how come all the good reviews is short and everytime its always said that the massage is great going back...sound fishy sounds like the same people or person writing it...but the other one is always long and descriptive...about the massuses and massage they receive....i had purchase a living social and it was terrible....the massuese was eating in front of me n i could hear her texting when she was giving my massage....and the place smells like a food place.....for all i know it was horrible experience the place does not look like the website at all too.....very deceiving and false advertisement.... regret buying the coupon and always go check out the place before you go to it... more

First time I've had a masseuse (1) text during a massage (three minutes without any activity made me open my eyes and sit up to see if Joanna had left the room - nope, she was TEXTING!), and (2) take a call during a massage (the response to her text message). The promised 60-minute massage was about 45 minutes long, Joanna was totally disorganized as well as a mediocre masseuse, which made the fact that there was actual ""laying on of hands"" for about half the time I was on the table OK. A friend had what she described as a perfectly fine massage at the same time from another masseuse. more

I've been going to Ava's Salon and Spa for years an have always been treated like a good friend there. The staff, and Ava herself, have been professional and are all good at what they do, The Salon would not have lasted there for 10 years or so if they weren't. What strikes me as fishy is that the reviews are all five stars until the last few months and then the place and staff are getting trashed over and over in a short time span. Doesn't this smell of disgruntled employees? While I can understand if an appointment gets cancelled I just don't believe that this happens repeatedly. I've seen bridal parties and groups of women in together and they are having a fabulous time. It's not the biggest or the fanciest, but it is clean and the staff is great. Don't believe everything you read . . .remember that the internet gives people courage to write what they would never say out loud if their identity was known. That's just sad. more

Appalled at the moment, I will be telling everyone and anyone NOT to go here and to spread the word that they have the WORST customer service, are running a scam where they sell products then conveniently close up shop or don't show up. This happened to me and when I finally got a call back (3 hours after driving there, calling to see why the place was closed at 12:30 on a weekday when operating hours are 10-8 and I had an appt?????!! hmmmmm) the brat never even apologized and tried to blame it on me and gave me some bs story then refused to refun. Needless to say I am having my police officer brother look into this business' practices and as a lawyer myself I am debating taking them to small claims court to stop them from taking advantage and scamming any more people. NO WONDER I UNDERSTAND THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS....I DON'T KNOW WHAT AVA'S SALON IS UP TO BUT I 'VE NEVER BEEN THERE AND TALKING TO HER OVER THE PHONE I COULD FEEL THE DISHONEST AND DECEIVING ALREADY THAT THIS PLACE WAS A SCAM..THANK GOD I DID NOT PURCHASE THE COUPLE'S MASSAGE OR WOULDN'T EVEN RECEIVE ANY WINE LIKE THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT EXPERIENCE THIS ""PROBLEM"". My husband made the mistake of purchasing the couples massage on the Living Social site without any research. I think we assumed that since it was on Grand Ave, it would be a charming place. SO NOT THE CASE. When we drove up and I saw the massage sign, I was laughing and joking that this better not be the place and really did not think this could possibly be it. Sadly, it was it. It looks like a rundown, gross, illegimate business that uses the spa name as a cover for something else. I just wanted to run and go home and let the certificate go. My husband felt we should give it a shot. It's gross, dingy, dirty, small, lackluster and uncomfortable inside. The massage room was in a space that looked like an old dirty closet. There were no lights, which was strange. I felt it was so I couldn't see the dirty sheets or floors. The masseuse was decently nice but wasn't a great masseuse and her hands were like sandpaper. I felt dirty when it was done. I have never WISHED for a massage to end. The promo also included wine but the woman working told us they didn't have any and the owner didn't want to keep re-stocking it. THEN DON""T PROMOTE THAT!!! I absolutely cannot understand WHY anyone every gave this place 5 stars let alone even 1! I had to give it a 1 as they dont let you give it no stars. And I NEVER write reviews but was so appalled, I felt I needed to save others from this pit. It's so awful. Unless you want to just throw money in the garbage, DON'T GO HERE! You will regret it like we did!!!! Disgusting!!!! more

we purchase a living social coupon and endup going and not getting our massage very disappointed, is this a scam or what is this salon up to... i hope anyone that reads these reviews think twice before going....and the place is not that nice looking or attracting and the things on the wall with frames look very tacky and cheap, the stars were not straight and i bet some of the reviews were made up sounds like it.....well next time when your appointment is book it should be kept on and not rescheduling or canceling...im just so disappointed.....i ddn't want to rate it at all this ava's on grand deserves no rating... more

I was in this disgusting place about a 3 weeks ago. The massage person that I had was really nice and she did a really good job, but the owner and the African American women were in front and I could hear them just gossiping about the person that was giving me a massage. I felt so bad for this girl and she just looked really young and you could tell that she was hurt from this. They were call her names like a stupid knave little girl and how she stupid and a bitch. Now if these people were professional they would have not even have said anything, and the owner at that. this lady is just pathetic. What a boss!!!! Oh I called there to see if I could schedule appointment with this girl again but found out that she quit.! If your reading this good for you I’m so happy you got out that place.! But to everyone else believe what you read cause this place is just no good.!!!!!!!!!!!! more

I was so disappointed the salon is nothing like their website two words FALSE advertisement ! I bought a spa package and one person did EVERYTHING! She did my manicure, pedicure, massage and facial which was horrible. I thought to myself jack of all trades and decided to ask her during my session where did you go to school ? she answered ""oh... Ava trained me"". Ava I'[m assuming who the owner is. She is taking untrained ,unlicensed individual and having them perform these sessions (whatever the customer chooses) ,For example the customer may have a medical condition an untrained individual may not be able to identify my cause condition to worsen or maybe even result in death. This place should be shot DOWN! more
