Had a great experience 3/25/2012

Had a great experience at Animal Urgent Care. I took my Dobie on a Sunday morning due to having an allergic reaction to something and developing hives all over her body. We tried Benadryl, which helped, but did not eliminate the issue. I debated on waiting until Monday to take her to her normal vet, which I LOVE, due to the reviews posted, but became concerned that her condition may get worse and would possibly affect her organs, so I thought it was best to get her checked out. From the moment I arrived, the receptionist, the 2 technicians, and the doctor were GREAT, friendly, and helpful. Trust me, I have had a number of dogs over the years and have experienced sub-standard service. That was not the case with Animal Urgent Care. The price was reasonable for an emergency weekend visit. I have no complaints with AUC. more

To this ignorant Sandi!!!! 9/26/2011

To the lady who wrote the comment below. I find your absolute ignorance to be astounding!!!! You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. First, you have no idea how hard those people work and how many pets lives they do save. Its a shame good news does not travel as far as bad news. Maybe if you watched your dog better it would not have been attacked. Obviously your negligence was the cause of this whole situation. As far as your ""research"".... I'm sure you have been able to learn as much as a veterinarian in this short amount of time. Shame on you. As I have been there many times, I also know that none of their DVM's are fresh out of school. You really have no idea what you are talking about and you are just trying to spread rubish. You should seriously be ashamed of yourself and should go bury yourself in a deep dark hole where no one will ever have to hear from you again. You truly prove the old saying ""ignorance is bliss"". Have fun living in your ignorant, depraved world. more

UNBELIEVABLY CALLUS! TOO BAD YOU CAN'T RATE THEM BELOW ZERO 8/7/2011

I frst went to Animal Urgent Care several years ago and then again about 5 years ago. Neither experience was pleasant and was very costly. I can't go into detail becaue you can write only so many words. \r \r The real INJUSTICE is that THEY ARE THE ONLY AFTER HOUR URGENT CARE IN FAYETTEVILLE!!!! \r \r \r Then in January of this year my poor little chihuahua, Rocky, was attacked by a pack of wild stray dogs. I have to make this short also because of limit of words. We rushed him to Animal Urgent Care. The vet on duty took x-rays and found that Rocky's abdomen had been punctured. They did not do the surgey until 6 hrs later. THIS IS THE WORST PART!!!!! I had to pick him up at 8:00 am monday morning and transport him to his regular vet and THEN I had to pick him up at 6:00 pm when the regular vet closed and transport him to Animal Urgent Care. This went on every morning and evening until Wednesday night when he died at Animal Urgent Care. The place was chaos. There was a lost of seriously ill and injured animals. They called me to a room about 1 hr later and told me that Rocky had crashed and did I want them to take ""extraordinary measures?"" Yes, Yes, Yes. I waited and waited and prayed and prayed. Rocky was such a sweet adorable little guy and he had been my best friend for 6 years. He had a lot of living left. A tech (not the vet) told me they ""couldn't save Rocky."" There is more horror that I have to leave out but most important I want all to know is: Rocky's little body was so tortured. \r \r As I write this I am crying again. I did research on Rocky's type of injury and found out that only an experienced animal surgeon should even try that kind of surgery and that it was almost always fatal. We had charged over $3,000 on our credit card trying to do everything to save his life. The worst part is how much my sweet little boy suffered before died. \r \r It is not only Animal Urgent Care to blame. It is all the V ets in Cumberland County. I tried to find 1 vet that kept sick and injured animals over night. They all only board healthy animals that don't need medical supervision. Look in the yellow pages and you will find that all the Vets' offices in Fayetteville list Animal Urgent Care as the emergeny/after-hour number to call.\r \r I also researched the vets that work at Animal Urgent Care. I found out that they are all fresh out of college and have very little experience. They are all low-man on the totem pole. Also, they don't even have an experienced vet oncall for emergencies they are unable to care for. I learned that Rocky had only a 15% chance of survival even if he had been treated by the best vet in Fayetteville. I loved him so much! Can you imagine having open heart surgery or some other major surgery at Cape Fear Valley Hospital and every morning and evening a family member would have to come and pick you up and transport you to a different location? I am so outraged. It took me 8 months to finally decide to say and do something about this travesty, I am first going to find another Urgent Care even if it's miles away and I'm also going to try and find a vet in another county. I blame them all for Rocky's death. If you have had a similar experience, please write me as ""Loves Animals"" at P.O. Box 64848, Fayetteville, NC 28306. They won't let me publish my email address. I intend to contine research, notify all the animal protection societys, and present the information to the Fayetteville Observer. This has to stop. Animal Urgent Care's first priority is to get as much money as they can. Maybe the vets in Cumberland County don't know what their practices are but trust me they will soon! more

CAN YOU SAY UNORGANIZED HORRID AND HOT MESS?!?! 4/23/2011

THEIR PASSION FOR ANIMALS WERE AS EVIDENT AS THEIR SKILL AND ORGANIZATION WHICH LACKED IMMENSLY!!!!\r The vet was packed with cases that varried. (snake bites, dog bites, broke bones, open wounds, and etc)\r the estimate quote for all of the quest was ""oh less than 2hours"".(reasonable time)\r after over 5 hours of waiting patiently; i asked when will my number be called. the repsonse was well rehearsed and repeatitive ""oh less than 2hours""( yeah i was told that 6hours ago)\r stil waiting patiently and wondering the terms URGENT and Care and how it corresponds with this location. Not once did a vet tech analyze my dog or anything!! My dog was attacked.(cut up in places and bleeding all over the floor and towel i provided) \r With a bleeding dog i wasnt concidered urgent and told i wouldnt be seen until morning! WOW the service of this location is below a 1 star.\r rude employees that dont take true respect of their work and others!! (lacking in staff and intelligence or maybe it is social skill. COULDNT TELL DUE TO THE FACT I WAS NEVER CONCIDERED AN URGENT CASE)\r I would gladly drive an extra hour to real location that i can trust with my animals. this locations isnt fit!!\r I WOULDNT SUGGEST THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!!! more

Do not use Animal Urgent Care of Fayetteville 10/18/2010

We had a cat that was bitten by a stray dog on a weekend. She had a minor puncture wound on her abdomen that we wanted to get looked at. We took her to Animal Urgent Care of Fayetteville because we thought it was the only option. We were made to wait over two hours (which for the last 30 minutes we were the only people in the waiting room) before we were even seen. While waiting a puppy was brought in that needed to be seen instantly but the people were made to wait while the receptionist tried to run their credit card before they were seen (standard practices a AUC). The people were made to wait over 45 minutes in which time the puppy passed away in its owners arms. The receptionist then came out from behind her window and immediately began talking other payment options while the owner was sobbing. When our cat was finally seen the vet spent less than two minutes looking at her and said she needed to do exploratory surgery to see if any damage was done on the inside. We questioned this because the wound did not seem to be that deep but trusted her judgement as a vet. We picked her up two days later and took her home. We were not given any medication for her or any instructions for care. We were shocked to see her abdomen which had no bandaging. It looked like a child had done the surgery and stitched the wound closed. Needless to say part of the stitching came out within a few hours and we could see inside of her abdomen. Luckily we were able to take her to her normal vet and he was forced to do another surgery to fix the mess. Afterwards, he told us that AUC had done more damage than good. We recommend driving the extra hour to take your animal to one of the other options for emergency vets. Animal Urgent Care of Fayetteville shows no compassion towards animals and only cares about getting paid for the shoddy services that they provide. more

Pet Care 10/13/2010

I am sorry that the people that previously posted had bad experiences with AUC,,No I do not work there, nor do I have any pets. However last year when a dear friend lost her husband to cancer, her beloved dog was hit by a car just two weeks later,,This couple had no children except their dog. And the widow is totally blind. She thought her entire world was crashing with the loss of her husband then what appeared to be the loss of her beloved pet. These wonderful folks at AUC took incredible care of her dog and he survived thanks to them. While we were there waiting,we also noticed that the staff took the time out to feed strays and show them love and compassion. So I simply cannot agree with these other reviews. more

Worst experience ever 5/17/2010

The weekend before Christmas, my dog seemed dizzy, stopped breathing &went stiff as a board. My husband & I do not have kids, so this is our one & only baby. Our regular vet was not open, so we rushed her to AUC for the 1st time. On the way there she began to breathe faintly, but was not responsive at all. As she lay motionless in my arms, she lost function of her bowels. As we arrived we were greeted as like it was a regular appt. We sat in the lobby with her in our arms for 30 mins before being called back. A ""tech"" came in approx 20 mins later & advised they needed to run a series of tests & keep her over night but had no clue of what the prob was. The lady was very nice at first. She had an estimate (included 2 nights stay with 24 hour care ""just in case she had to stay more than 1 night."") in hand, told us the cost & insisted we pay in full. We could not pay the amt she was asking in full that day, so I asked for a pmt plan, or to pay half today & the other 1/2 Friday when we got paid. I told her I could show them our stubs, or leave a post dated check. She was very rude & quickly told us no. She never left the room to ask anyone else if this could be an option. She bluntly told us no & said we needed to go ahead & pay for the visit. I told her our dog needed to be treated & she left the room. 20 minutes later she came back with another estimate in hand & told me they could only give her charcoal ""just in case she had eaten something."" I insisted my dog receive sufficient treatment &asked about the pet credit info on the wall, that she failed to mention. I told her I could pay 1/2 in cash, and the other 1/2 on the card. She told me she would get us an app, but we probably would not be approved. No, I was not approved for the card. I had absolutely no credit. We were given the option of charcoal & a hope for the best. The lady told us we had to leave the room & ushered us to the lobby. We politely asked the lady at the front desk to speak with someone that has the authority to approve a pmt plan & pleaded for proper treatment. She told us there was no one we could speak to, absolutely no exceptions, & we should not have an animal if we cannot take care of it. She said to pay $380 right away or no charcoal. She said they would not do it until funds were in hand. Meanwhile, I already had my debit card out. As we sat in the lobby waiting on our ""baby"", several things happened. 1at, a man rushed in with his puppy that had been ran over. She was bleeding everywhere. He cried & begged them to take her back, but the said take a seat. She died in his arms. 2nd, a man came in with a larger dog that was bleeding from a detached ear all over the floor. No bandage or gauze were even offered. He was still sitting there when we left. 3rd, a lady & her daughter with a smaller dog. She had a very bad infection where she was taken there for a procedure the prev week. When our dog was brought out to us about 45 mins later, she was cover in charcoal. It was splashed all over her & it was dripping. They did not even wipe her off. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone AT ALL. If you are in this field you need to be an animal lover. You need to understand the bond between a normal human & their pet. You also need to understand that unexpected events occur in peoples lives every day. We do not always have extra funds on hand for emergencies, but that does not mean we are unfit/bad people. It is not professional to treat people like they are scum. If you don't like your job, then find another . My experience may not be a reflection of the doctors, but we never even saw a doctor to begin with. I would drive my dog hours away before I took her back to AUC of Fayetteville. Cons: ENTIRE EXPERIENCE more

PREVENTION is the best cure! 5/4/2010

Parvovirus is caused by a virus that attacks the fast dividing cells in the intestinal crypts (valleys) and bone marrow of dogs and puppies not fully vaccinated resulting in vomiting and bloody diarrhea, dehydration, secondary bacterial infection and eventually death if untreated.\r \r Antibiotics treat the bacteria, not the virus. Putting a parvo infected pet on antibiotics and keeping them hydrated sounds like a plan for a cure BUT it is not!\r \r Patients with parvoviral infection are vomiting and having bloody diarrhea of such a volume it is almost impossible to rehydrate them orally, and they're VOMITING (not keeping anything down orally)!\r \r Ideal treatment includes hospitalization, IV fluids, antiemetics (stop vomiting), antibiotics for secondary bacterial infection, GI protectants (antacids, etc), immunostimulants, etc until they stop vomiting and having diarrhea and start eating and drinking on their own (AFTER virus has run its course as there is no cure for the viral infection). This can take anywhere from 2 to 14 days with average being 4-5 days. \r \r Can parvo puppies and dogs be treated outside hospital setting? Yes, but it IS NOT recommended because it is very difficult if not impossible to keep them hydrated.\r \r BEST TREATMENT FOR PARVO: Have your puppy vaccinated every 2 to3 weeks until it is around 4 months of age (older fro some breeds) starting when 6 to 7 weeks old. \r \r Do not take your puppy to public places where other sick dogs and puppies frequent such as the dog park, pet shops, etc. until it is fully vaccinated (approximately 4 sets of shots-5-way,7-way,etc).\r \r If pet owners follow these simple steps they can prevent parvovirus infection from even being a concern and not have the heart break of making a tough decision such as Titan's owner had to make. \r \r RIP in Titan and 1000's of other puppies and dogs who've died from parvo or been euthanized to prevent suffering and dying a slow miserable death. more

HORRIBLE 6/14/2009

I took my puppy in and after waiting 2 hours he was finally diagnosed with Parvo. Most of the staff were unfriendly and looked like they didnt even want to be there. The Dr. wrote an estamate and for little over 1 day at the facility it was going to cost me $800!! Then I would have to transfer him to another vet for anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks! He gave us no hope, and we couldnt even afford the 1 day there. He told us that he wouldnt make it unless he was hospitalized and he recomended euthinaztia since we couldnt afford it. Sadly I wasnt knowledgable on Parvo so I told them to just put him down so he wasnt in pain. Come to find out I could have got the antibiotics from him and then taken him home and nursed him back to health, with alot of dedication and a few things to keep him hydrated!!! I am OUTRAGED that the Dr. said he wouldnt make it unless he was in his VERY EXPENSIVE hospital!!!! We caught it very early and he had a very good chance he could have made a full recovery at home.....Sadly he isnt with us any longer and I blame the Dr. for not providing us with the knowledge or option to take him home. ~RIP Titan- 1/09-6/09~ Cons: EVERYTHING more
