Don't pay attention to the one star reviews 12/27/2011

I just read the reviews and really don't know what to make out of them except maybe some people just like to complain. By reading those reviews the consistent theme was the A/C might have not been working very well in the dog days of summer. After all it was 40 straight days above 100 degrees so that is possible. I can't argue that but can give you a review on the food.\r \r My wife and I went to Angus Grill on a whim at the spur of the moment in late November. I did not have a coupon of any sort. It was a date night and I wanted to try something different. We used to love Rodizio's in the same complex before it closed years ago. We went on a Saturday night and walked straight in for dinner without a reservation. I was concerned because that's never a good sign when you can walk in on a Saturday night on Westheimer and go straight to the table. \r \r Anyway our waitress was exceptional. Since we knew what to do we just needed to know how to call for meat. We started with the salad bar and honestly it seemed a little light in terms of diverse foods. I am comparing them to Fogo de Chao in this instance. But I agree with the thought, ""You don't win friends with salad."" I am here for the meats!!! \r \r They must have had a spy looking at our table because as soon as I flipped the meat card over the meats were there. I always make sure the card is visible on the edge of the table as to not interfere with the staff or them to interfere with me. Meanwhile between juicy bites our waitress never let our glass get below the halfway mark. My wife loved the cheesebread as well as me, but I am there for meat. So once my wife had a not so hot batch, she barely mentioned it to the waitress and voila she brings back a steaming hot rack. My waitress asked was everything to our liking and I mentioned there was one meat I was in love with but I haven't seen it in a few go rounds. No sooner said than done. A fresh skewer was brought to me. Tremendous!!!\r \r I rated this only 4 stars as there were only a handful of things that need minor improvements. The salad bar was really just ok. But if you are a carnivore then you can pass it up. One one star whiner was right in the mash potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. My key lime pie dessert was just ok as well.\r \r The strength of this place is the great meats and exceptional service. Judging by the bad summertime reviews and reconciling it to my experience, management must have heard the complaints and rallied the troops to initiate a turnaround. I think the one star reviewers need to try it again without being biased toward your last impression. I will return to dine again in the near future. \r more

Wonderful experience! 12/20/2011

Wow. After reading some of these reviews I'm thinking either I didn't eat at the same restaurant or these people are crazy, snobby whiners, the likes of which I don't want to know. And even with a coupon!? Any way...we recently dined here for the first time using a LivingSocial coupon. Although the ""fine print"" said we couldn't use it on certain dates, the owner was gracious enough to accept it. Good P.R. We went on a Saturday night, so it was busy and there was a reasonable wait, even with a reservation. I wasn't upset because at an all you can eat establishment, it is hard to tell when tables will open up. Right? No prob. We went to the bar, ordered a glass of wine ($9 each), chatty and enjoyed the bar area and some of the people in it. That's what reasonable adults do in nice restaurants. This ain't Denny's folks. It's a night out, relax and enjoy. In fact, there was some obnoxious dude in the bar whining about a 10 minute wait, trying to score a free drink because of it. Really? Get out a little will ya? I feel bad for his girlfriend/wife cuz she was nice.\r What a cheapo. Stay home.\r \r They didn't have a full time bartender, but we had no trouble getting a drink from the owner. When we were shown to our table, the dining room was lovely and our table was perfect. There was a jazz duo playing and the place was packed. There was one very large party that took up many tables, so I suspect that was the reason we waited a bit for our table. As soon as we were seated our server came and offered us a drink and explained how things worked there. We were given our ""meat cards"" and a basket of mini rolls and off we went to the salad bar. Perhaps I am not a picky whiner, but I found the selections to be wonderful, fresh and unique! Bread, cheeses, vegetables, salads, dressings, rice, potatoes, black beans, etc, etc. We came back to our table and enjoyed our salads while grooving to the awesome music. Then we flipped our cards to green and wowzers! Lots of meat!!! Filet, top & bottom sirloins, chicken, sausage. Some were wrapped in bacon. Decadent!! The servers came to us frequently to be sure our plates and glasses were never empty. \r \r When we were ready for dessert, we asked about their dessert choices. Turtle cheesecake, key lime pie, creme brulee and papaya ice cream, I think. We passed because we were in the mood for something chocolaty. We had NO idea there was more to come! The grilled pineaple came along with fried banana and breaded (fried?) yucca. Delish!! I've never had grilled pineapple. Boy, was THAT yummy! I will have to try that at home. \r \r Then we asked for our check, it was promptly processed and the server returned with a souvenier pen and when I asked if I could keep the meat cards, she said sure! I thought they were a nice and fun momento to our wonderful dining experience.\r \r On our way out, the owner (Airton) personally thanked us and asked if we enjoyed ourselves - which we did.\r \r All in all - we had a super time! We will surely recommend it to friends and will come back someday soon!\r \r more

give them a shot 10/30/2011

I was Very concerned once I had read the review for Angus Grill, Almost didn't go. But now I am glad I did. We arrived early for reservations and told there would be a few minute wait. (no biggie we were early) Went sat down in bar area. Was offered a drink by 2 different staff members that was standing in for the bartender. (probably don't do enough bar business to have a full time one.) We were promptly seated and let the adventure begin. The trip to the salad bar ~ I was surprised that there were actually salad on the bar and it was amazingly fresh. Now was it a typical salad bar ...no. I had marinated yellow and red bell peppers, mushrooms, asparagus, roasted tomatoes, broccoli, cheese, an assortment of other items. Then to the side bar of that was steaming hot mashed potatoes black beans and rice. All which was very tasty. But lets get to the real reason we chose a restaurant of this concept. The MEAT. As soon as we turned our card to green the meat started flowing. I am a very picky eater and will only eat well done meat. So I had a little longer wait for my wave of meat to come. But I gently pointed out to our waitress ""does that meat ever come well done"" and immediately after that the well done meat was coming our way often enough I had to turn my card to red to catch up. The meat was juicy, flavor able, tender, well seasoned, everything you could ask for. The servers came around very often, Never was lacking in something to eat. Now on the the favorite part of mine~ the grill pineapple was to die for. The fried bananas was good but dang that pineapple was a great addition to cut some of the monotony of meat, meat and meat. yummy cheesy bread too. I used a voucher for this meal and my agreement on the voucher was for me to pay tax and tip. Our tab was 5.41 and the tip was left up to our discretion. Read your voucher to make sure you don't get hit with surprise charges, We will go back and will use a voucher again. They are voucher friendly. I was greatly surprised and definitely got our moneys worth and then some. more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! 9/27/2011

Like most people, we had a coupon so figured why not go. After being seated we waited for 15 minutes for someone to come by and take our drink order. No one came... I had to actually get up and ask them for water... SALAD BAR: Me and my wife then proceeded to to salad bar which was awful, the vegetables were soggy, the meats and cheeses were slimy, and the potatoes/yuca were old tasting. The only things that were half way decent were the black beans and rice. SERVICE: After gettin back from the salad bar we waited about 15 more minutes until we got our cheese bread which suprisingly was really good/hot. We flipped our cards to green and it took a while before anyone even came by with meat. I had to actually get the guys attention from three tables over before they would even look in our general direction. Overall, the worst service I have ever received. QUALITY: You would think they would at least get this part right but they didn't. They were really conservative with their ""quality"" meats such as filet mignon and top sirloin and only brought by chicken, sausage, and pineapple. Once we finally got some picanha or filet it was undercooked so much that the meat was bright red and completely inedible. My wife likes her meat rare but she couldn't even attempt at trying it. Overall, I went home on a full stomach of cheese bread and water... Worst service I've ever experienced, meats undercooked, and salad bar not maintained at all. To top it all off they added an 18% gratuity for a party of 2 people which was not earned at all. more

WORST FOOD IN TOWN 9/14/2011

ONE STAR IS TOO MANY!\r \r I purchased a deal off of LivingSocial for the Angus Grill Brazilian Steak House in Houston, TX (77057). I absolutely love Fogo de Chao and thought I would give this restaurant a try, as Angus Grill has a similar theme of dining. I checked your website and it seemed like it would be a pleasant experience for my guest and I. Well, I was completely wrong and your website seemed very misleading from the moment we walked in. With a reservation, made a week in advance, we were asked to wait in the waiting area to the right of the restaurant, located by the bar. Not only did we wait for nearly an hour to be called, but it was VERY hot in the restaurant and others in the waiting room actually had to fan themselves! When we were FINALLY called... we were seated next to a table of about 15 or so guests, and had to experience an even longer wait just for drink orders. Once we received our drinks, and flipped our table cards on GREEN to be served... we did more waiting... which was not only frustrating, but ridiculously awful business/restaurant management. The wait continued throughout the night for every meat option available... all-in-all, Angus Grill Brazilian Steak House was, by far, one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Not only was the ""salad bar"" selection not re-filled... but the small amount of options (after dining at Fogo de Chao) was shocking. The mashed potatoes, rice, bananas, etc... were also cold and fresh food was not being brought out. The dinner itself was nothing special or anything I would even describe CLOSE TO being ""delicious"". \r \r In conclusion, waiting area was awful, seating was awful, service was awful, ""salad bar"" was awful, food was awful, and I wouldn't recommend Angus Grill to any friends, family members, not even an enemy!!!... Thank goodness for the ALWAYS pleasant Fogo de Chao! I really suggest all management of this restaurant to head back to restaurant and business management classes to realize how your website is misleading and how your customers' experiences REALLY are! Please, do the city a favor and stay OFF of GroupOn, LivingSocial, DailyDeals, BankHero, etc... more

Worst Churrascaria EVER! 8/21/2011

Went there for our anniversary dinner and I could not have been more disappointed! The salad bar is terribly stocked, with very few things and full of almost empty plates. Side dishes are set up to the side of the salad bar, and even though you get a ""decent"" variety, I was very upset that their Mashed Potatoes was made of Flakes (yes, like the ones you buy in tins at the supermarket) - how can a restaurant that charges $35 per person have fake mash potatoes? That is simply beyond me... Their meats lacked flavor, they were either too bland or too salty... That is if you were lucky enough to get one of their ""Gauchos"" to come around... The ambience was terrible and it was so hot inside, we were sweating... They had portable a/c units all around the restaurant with pipes coming out of them and on to the ceiling... To say I was shocked and disappointed, is an understatement... No wonder they have so many coupons and deals going on... Needless to say, we were there for only 45 mins, and only tried about 4 different meats... It was absolutely pathetic.... Never going back! more

Have had no problems 8/2/2011

We have been regulars for a year. The owner/manager knows us and which table we like to sit in. We have never had any problems. The servers can be sort of slow with their service, as the place has become unusually packed in the recent months. The desserts are good and the atmosphere is as well. Parking is a pain, but has been this way for ages (this used to be Ephesus Turkish restaurant years ago). People who have had problems with Group On have that problem because, well.. its Group On. We have never had any of their vouchers actually work. I don't see the problems that the others have had and will continue to visit Angus as I have always have. more

Don't honor their word 7/22/2011

I bought 2 Groupons to Angus Grill because they wrote in the discussion they would honor ""You may use as many coupons as you party members"", but when I called them to make a reservation they won't let me use both! The manager said the only way both would be able to be used is if we seat separetely?! \r Then I talked to a friend that works at a pasta restaurant around and he said they are suppose to go out of business in 1-3 months. They already started firing people. Why would you sell groupons if you may go out of business?! more

Vouchers worthless 7/22/2011

Went to try out this restaurant after purchasing vouchers online. The restaurant had only a few things on the salad bar.....many many trays of sliced cucumbers!! No asparagus, no cheese, terrible. Not comparable to the many GREAT Brazillian restaurants in Houston. Such a dissappointment! We overlooked this, because we are more interested in the meat. They were out of Filet, Beef Ribs, Shrimp, Lamb and pineapple!!! Really??? Out of all of those things? BULL. The bottom line is they sold over 3,000 vouchers on Travelzoo....and now don't have most of the things they advertise. My husband and I left, after we realized they were out of everything we wanted! Immediately called Travelzoo and received a full refund for all 3 vouchers I bought. So glad I did, because now I am reading how the owner/manager is adding charges to bills when you have a voucher. This activity is at the VERY least bad business, if not illegal! STAY AWAY! more

Don't use vouchers bought online. What a dissapointment. 7/17/2011

This was a special occaision for us, a special dinner. We drove 50 miles to get here\r We made reservations for 6 and when we got there the table was ready. The temperature inside the dining room was BLISTERING. I was complete covered in sweat in 45 mins. We got one drink (iced tea) and the guy working the drinks was sleeping on the job, we were so parched! Asked 3 times for another drink. Took another 30 mins to get one. It was 20 degrees cooler in the restroom. The sparce salad bar really wasn't an issue at all. The mashed potatoes were instant. The meats and the little dinner rolls were delicious. Ice cream deserts were melted and chocolate cake was dry and unappetizing.\r As we were finishing our meal we noticed other customers having issues presenting their coupons bought online. We also had vouchers for dinners bought online and wondered what kind of treatment we were going to get. After an hour and a half in a 100 degree restaurant, in dress up clothes, we were not very happy customers. The guy came back with the receipts and had added a bunch of extra charges to the dinner, we pointed to the voucher and started to read what the terms were. He did not want to honor them.\r He told us to get the **** out and never come back, \r and I don't think that we will. more

Don't except a good meal! 7/15/2011

I had come across this place online and after reading some of the reviews I wanted to go.I took two of my friends with me hoping we would all have a really great time. Boy was I wrong!!We started out at the salad bar which had a piece of lettuce with a small thin tomatoe on it. No asparagus like promised on menue, & only one favor of cheese (not a assortment as the review had it). The meat all tasted the same -dry and very tough!! No flavor!! When I asked for rare tenderlion the server replyed ""We only serve our tenderlion well done"".I had a hard time believing it was really tenderlion {being soo tough & dry}. When we asked for desert they were all out of what we asked for or it was still frozen!!!!! Don't waste your money or your time. more

Better than Fogo! 12/8/2010

Love this place! We have our special table and the manager always knows what we want. Management and staff are courteous and helpful. Meat is always cooked to order (if requested) and the pineapple is an added specialty that some of the other Brazilian steakhouses in town don't offer. They're usually not that busy. We stopped going to another one near by and started going here. Its especially great when they offer the deals online. We love the location, as we used to got to Ephesus when it was in the same spot. The best Update- Our opinion of this place is rapidly changing. There are some female employees that answer the phone. No matter which day or time you call, they claim that they have no reservations. We have decreased our visit frequency because of the lack of available reservations. We have to call a manager to get a table and that is pitiful. For people who are long time guests, the hostess should not get rude (shouldn't do that to anyone for that matter!) and attempt to turn away business. This place is great if you can actually get a table without having to deal with the rude hostesses. more

Great bang for your buck 7/13/2010

Hey folks....want a better bang for your buck for Brizilian steakhouse food. Head to the ""Angus Grill Brazilian Steakhouse"" on Westheimer. Friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Absolutely delicious food and great salad bar. My friend and I go there at least once a week. Yummmm! Pros: Wonderful staff...delicious food Cons: No drawbacks more

Schwatzwoodward is wrong 12/31/2009

I will wager that there were other factors influencing the remarks of schwartzwoodward. I can't imagine that my experiences with this establishment are as opposite as those stated by Schartzwoodward. They have only tried to please me and my wife, comped me when appropriate, and acted with the up most professionalism. It is as close to being in Brazil without paying the airfare. People take their time to offer review for a lot of reasons. Some are prima donas while others are realistic. Angus offers quality meats at a reasonable price served in the Brazilian tradition. I can't believe that schwartzwoodward gave Angus a fair appraisal. I bet she did not even pay for her meal. Pros: Best Brazilian Food and Hospitality in Houston Cons: Can't smoke in bar but that is not Airton fault more

Worst Food Ever 12/6/2009

We went to Angus because of City Search reviews and the Houston Chronicle. We love Fogo de Chao and we were anticipating our experience at Angus. The restaurant was empty except for one other table. The rolls were cold and stale, the presentation of the polenta, plantains and yucca were not appetizing. The meat was so rare covered with butter. The meats were so tough and chewy it was impossible to eat. The salad bar was not served as others mentioned and it was limited served with cold rice and beans. We have tasted much better at fast food restaurants. I'ved never met a shrimp that I did not like. They served my husband 2 shrimp and me 1 that was so salty I spit it out. \r I have never written a review but needed to share our disappointment in our experience. They charge $20.00 for the salad bar which was totally not worth even half of that. There was a reason that this restaurant was empty. Pros: Location Cons: Poor Quality Food more

awesome food, unique experience 11/16/2009

this place is great! the food is awesome. the meet just keeps coming as the servers are constantly bringing out all the assorted cuts. I really liked the fried pinapple thing, which I didn't think I would like, but they put a hint of cinnamon in it which i loved. My family was also referred to the restaurant by Pam Bates who made everything very easy for us. I also really enjoyed the shrimp. this is a great place to eat awesome cuts of meet. not only was the owner very friendly, but he also played the brazilian pipes just for our table which was pretty cool. more

Very cool atmosphere... and AMAZING food... 11/13/2009

We went here for a special family occasion, and it was the perfect spot! We were even treated to a tour of all the cool Brazilian artifacts around the restaurant by the owner! We were introduced to this place by Pam Bates of Creative Collaborations 713-483-8338, and she was able to schedule our reservation for us. I highly recommend this restaurant, and arranging your visit through her. Pros: As much meat as you can eat! :) Cons: none! more

Delicious and fun 11/12/2009

the owner greeted us at the door. Very warm and nice atmosphere. Selection of meat was wonderful and grilled shrimp were a nice touch too. Salad Bar was a meal in itself. Got special promotion deal from Pam Bates at Creative Collaborations 713-483-8338 because she is promoting the restaurant. Great place for small or large groups. Great location on Westhiemer right next to Bering. Pros: variety of selection, delicious meat, salad bar more

Great meal 10/12/2009

Great for a special evening. Service was superb, with the owner welcoming us. Not loud like Fogo, or as expensive, especially with the promotion deal that we got through Pam Bates. She made the reservation and helped make the evening special. Not a place you go every Friday night, (offers a lot of great food) but a special place when you want a memorable night out. Pros: Wide selection of meats, price reasonable Cons: Not for a vegitarian more

Fabulous Meal, exceptional service, great value 9/27/2009

We dined at Angus Grill last night with a party of four for the first time. I was very impressed that the owner met us at the door and welcomed us to our private table. The place is was not crowded and pretty intimate. Started with the salad bar with steamed asparagus, fresh marinated mushrooms and salad. The meats started coming and we enjoyed filet mignot, marinated steaks and lamb chops. Skewered shrimp and baked tilapia were an added bonus. I had several brazilian margaritas that were to die for. My friend said the food was just as good as Fogo and the price is much less. Overall an excellent experience and will be back for special occasions. Dessert - try the mexican flan or papaya sorbet/mouse. We got an excellent deal -buy one dinner get one free from Pam Bates, their marketing person. Book reservation through Pam for money saving offer 713-483-8338. Pros: Delicious meats, warm attentive service more

  • Brazil is a Latin giant that boasts far more than picturesque beaches and lush jungles… It is a haven for wildlife, colonial villages, eclectic restaurants, and pulsating nightlife. It's also famous worldwide for two more things these days - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the gaucho cuisine of Rio Grande do Sul that began its rise to fame in the 1800s.

Airton Demoraes is a top Brazilian chef and entrepreneur whom Houston inspired to open his all-you-can-eat steakhouse (churrascaria).
