Expect LONG waits even if you have a reservation! 2/23/2007

Long waits to sit down even if you have a reservation.\r \r OK, here's how it works at AGO. You make a reservation and you show up on time. They tell you to grab a drink at the bar while your table is coming up. In the meantime, the regular customers (that look like the m a f i a) come in, tip the guy at the front and go straight to the first table eventhough they don't have a reservation.\r \r Our reservation was at 8pm. They sat us down at 9:30 pm. The staff is quite rude as well. Always telling you another 15 minutes to calm you while hours are passing by.\r \r So expect to wait a long period before you sit down. Pros: No Pros Cons: Long Waits - Rude Staff more

GO HERE GO HERE GO HERE!!! 2/13/2007

Heard good things and Ago is around the corner from where we live, so we gave it a try. Service was exceptional and the food was even better. I had the vegetable risotto and my fiance had the filet mignon and we split a pizza for an appetizer. The drinks were very good too. I highly suggest dining at Ago if you have a chance. Pros: High-end food, high-end service, great atmosphere Cons: Pricey, but what do you expect? more

Nice Place 11/17/2006

Not much of an italian fan, but Ago is an exception. I love their seafood pasts.. cooked just right. The wait staff is very courteous... even take down special requests with food.. =) Their octopus ink risotto, which is off the menu, can be requested... it's amazing..=) more

Okay food, terrible service 11/14/2006

When we got to Ago, it was fairly empty. We had requested a table on the patio, but they tried to seat us inside. When we argued, the host went on about how outside is really a cigar smoking section. Finally, he seated us outside - we didn't see a cigar the entire time. \r \r The waiter was very distracted and when he listed the specials, he said, ""we can make risotto with truffles or chanterelles."" I ordered the risotto with truffles. I know from expereince that truffles are expensive, and truffle risotto can get as pricey as $45. That was okay; this was a special occasion. I was shocked to receive the bill and see the dish cost $95. The restaurant had no remorse about not telling us the price in advance (a common practice in even the finest restaurants is to warn the customer), saying, ""Sometimes customers get angry when we tell them."" So, bad service from the host, slow service from the waiter (plus he forgot one dessert entirely) and $95 for risotto (come on - it's just a bowl of rice!) and we will not be returning to Ago. Pros: Saw Vin Diesel Cons: Bad service; noisy more

Great Atmoshpere 11/13/2006

I liked this restaurant for its ambience. It's great for people watching, and if you get star struck, then you will definitely do so at this restaurant. The food is good, and the service is always fair. The best thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere, and the people watching. more

Horrible Service 11/11/2006

The first time my husband and I went to Ago we had a decent meal and enjoyed the experience. We decided to go back and take our out of town guests there on a Saturday night. The food was below average and the servise was horrendous. My husband ordered the Chilean sea bass special, which was awful! After sending it back for some simple pasta, we waited over a half hour for his meal. The table was cleared, the group waited 30 minutes, (asking where his food was multiple times) he finally got his pasta. The waiter was rude about the entire situation. To top off the horrible experience - we were charged for his meal! I would not recommend anyone to go to the overrated restaurant. There are so many better places in this town!!!! Pros: Fun scene Cons: horrible servie, below average food more

Happening is Right 11/3/2006

I went for dinner on a Tuesday and the restaurant and bar area were so packed I couldn't hear my friends across the table. But apparently that's why you go to Ago. The restaurant is small and warmly decorated, and the wait staff is pretty attentive, though not necessarily friendly. The food is very expensive, but there are the rare deals thrown in. ""It's a rich-man, poor-man type of food,"" Chef Agostino says on the restaurant's Web site, and he's right. The $12 Zuppa del Golfo soup (like cioppino) I ordered had a delicious flavor and was so laden with tender chunks of salmon and other types of seafood (honestly, the best seafood I've ever had) that I couldn't eat my entree. I'll just get that next time! Pros: Good food Cons: Expensive more

Desserts are fabulous, food is another story... 9/7/2006

For such a swanky, scenester-type place and the prices of the food here, you would think the quality would match - and it did, the first time I went to Ago. However, the second time a couple of weeks ago was the exact opposite. I brought an out of town friend to this restaurant on her one night free from work, which I regretted. Appetizers were so-so and the pasta dishes were VERY salty, so much so that she sent her plate back. Our simpatico waiter did hook us up with an amazing dessert plate (the best part of the meal), but if you're going to drop $80-$100 on a meal, everything should be up to par. more

Ago is a "No-Go" 8/15/2006

My daughter and I had dinner here and were very disappointed. We were seated and waited on promptly until someone more important arrived. I ordered a house salad that was so heavy on the dressing that the lettuce was "wet". My main entree was veal picata. There were four small pieces of veal and a "pile" of cooked spinach. The veal was moderatly warm to cold, so I sent it back. It was obviously microwaved because when it was served to me again, the veal was about as tough as shoe leather. The waiter really lost interest us because he had "more important" clients to serve, i.e. some Hollywood mogul. The presentation was awful - who serves a pile of cooked spinach with veal? They must have a chef that doesn't know much about food presentation. And what's with the 80's disco music playing in the background?? more

This place is full of charm! I have lived in LA for 3 years and go here at least 2x a month! Great food, authentic accented servers lol, Peach Martinis that will take you to a new place! Lots of celebs, beautiful people, and wonderful food choices... Make a reservation or you will be banished. Pros: Beautiful romantic patio/great food/lovely crowd Cons: Noisy inside.. Sit outside and bring out your inner Celeb. more

  • This Tinseltown fave still banks on its big-name backers (Robert De Niro and the brothers Weinstein), but it's the food and scene that keeps the tables filled. Like the clientele, it's as elegantly...
