I finally got to Ago last Thursday, and was weary from reading all of the bad reviews before, especially of the staff. From the moment that I arrived, I was greeted by a super ni...

Spa-esque and delightful 12/28/2007

I read so many negative reviews about this restaurant and they were all wrong. Must have been submitted by a bunch of savages looking for California Pizza Kitchen...or should I say CPK...instead of an amazing, authentically italian dinner. Pricey for sure but we were treated like a king, queen and prince. Terrific. Americans and weird tacky eurotrash looking for 600 pound plates of food served with a craven, hooters-esque suburban ""flair"", please stay far, far away. Pros: fantastic food, great, attentive service Cons: a little bit pricey but worth the money more

Rude wait staff, treated like my money was no good 10/28/2007

I was in town for a few days and we made reservations for Ago's well in advance. When we arrived we were told there would still be a 20 minute wait. We requested the patio and they tried to shuffle us into the main dining room which was so loud you have to shout to hear anyone. We were put in a back corner of the patio that you have to wedge yourself into. When we were finally served it was by a very rude French server who acted like were were a bother. Maybe we were interrupting his failed Hollywood acting career who knows? We paid way too much for risotto which was about $24 bucks. Bottom line: if you want to pay a ton of money, get treated poorly and like it..then this is your place! Pros: Celebs Cons: Food, service, price more

Large parties beware!! 9/21/2007

We recently dined at Ago for a friend's birthday. We had actually dined there the week before and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, our friend's brithday was dampered by the waiter insulting us by automatically filling in and totaling the gratuity on our credit card receipts. While most people do expect an automatic gratuity for large parties, they also expect to see it posted on the menu. You can imagine our surprise when the bill came and it only said "%" with an amount totaled at the bottom. We had to do the math oursleves to figure out that we were automatically gratuitized 20% on the final bill (including tax). On top of that when we split the bill with multiple credit cards, the waiter wrote in the tip and totaled it. The last time I checked the only person that can fill in the total and sign is myself. We were all completely insulted and felt that the waiter and management practices were misleading and borderline fraudulent. My questions is: "Mr. DeNiro, how would you feel if someone wrote in your tip for you?" more

Ago's needs to learn to treat parties of 5 women as well as they treat the stars and celebrities that dine there. 9/21/2007

Ago's needs to learn to treat parties of 5 women as well as they treat the stars and celebrities that dine there.\r \r A couple of months ago we had a reservation for 8:30 and they did not seat us till almost 10PM. I begged for a round of free drinks for us girls while we were waiting at the small bar, they finally gave in.\r \r When the table was available they insisted to seat us in the back room. A definite no no for 5 beauties who wanted to be in the main dining room for the buzzy atmosphere of the place- it's not the food that makes it 100 percent.\r \r When the food came it was sub par- On my order the salad was good, the Salmon should of been return ed straight back to the kitchen. And it was cause if was highly under cooked.\r \r Perhaps they should think twice and treat people as equals, because they do not know that the person who is not a celebrity- may be the behind the scenes person who is responsible for that celebrities career.\r \r As well the service could be better as well as the noise level. Pros: energetic atmosphere a ""BUZZ"" for sure Cons: reservations mean nothing and the service is sup par more

got to be kidding 9/14/2007

can't believe this restaurant is still around... if you like drinking wine from a cracked wine glass (with no apologies from staff) and like eating very bad food, keep going to Ago. if you like rude, rushed service, Ago's your place. have to say that it was good once... but that seems like a very long time AGO! Pros: none Cons: food, service... etc more

Best dinner experience in a while... 8/13/2007

I went to Ago last week with a two girlfriends to celebrate one of their birthdays. My friend had heard about this place so we finally tried it. Can you say amazing? We had to wait a bit for our table and eventually we were sat in the wine room. This is in the back of the restaurant and kind of removed from the "scene". I asked that we be moved to a different table and after about 10 minutes, they moved us to the main dining room. We each had an appetizer (each were amazing...the tuna tartar special was excellent) and our entrees were fantastic. We had rigatoni with pancetta and the ravioli with ricotta and spinach. We were all amazed as to how good the food was. I would go back here in a heartbeat...actually, we have reservations for next Wednesday! Try and get the main dining room or patio...the wine room is quiet and it's where they sit the kids. Pros: Food, service, overall experience! more

Great Graduation Celebration Spot 6/4/2007

Went to celebrate our cousin's graduation from high school for lunch and found Ago to be the perfect place! Great for groups. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in picking our food. The ambiance was great-out on the patio in perfect summer weather. \r \r The food arrived hot, fresh and full of flavor. Would recommend Ago for an intimate evening for two or a group celebration (seems that some of the complaints about service could be related to regular Friday or Saturday night rush, which we avoided by a weekday lunch). \r \r The mushroom risotto was wonderful, the steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The halibut special with pureed sunchokes was light and exquisite, perfectly cooked. The papadele with lamb ragou was a special of the day and was wonderful. For dessert we all shared a dessert sampler and everything was to die for. All in all the experience was perfect! We'd definitley go back and highly recommend it. Pros: wonderful and friendly service, delicious food, beautiful patio seating more

Pleasantly Surprised with a great experience 3/14/2007

A friend made a reservation for us to dine at AGO. After reading the reviews I was a little concerned. It appears that it does not receive great reviews. I myself had a great experience. We entered the restaurant and were greated with a smile from the hostess. We were promptly seated at our table(It was 7:30 on a Tuesday). The restaurant was very busy. The waiter was very friendly and had a great Italian accent. The appetizers were very good. I ordered gnocchi although ravioli was delivered to the table. When presented with their error the waiter took care of it with a smile. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the gnocchi! The dessert was fantastic. I had the strawberries and cream. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would go back. Pros: Excellent Food Cons: Loud more

Incredibly Dissapointing 2/25/2007

Sadly, some of the worst serice i've ever had in los angeles. For a restaurant with those kind of prices and that ambiance, it was incredibly dissapointing. Service was indifferent, inattentive and when anyone actually stoped at the table they were simply rude. more

Expect LONG waits even if you have a reservation! 2/23/2007

Long waits to sit down even if you have a reservation. OK, here's how it works at AGO. You make a reservation and you show up on time. They tell you to grab a drink at the bar while your table is coming up. In the meantime, the regular customers (that look like the m a f i a) come in, tip the guy at the front and go straight to the first table eventhough they don't have a reservation. Our reservation was at 8pm. They sat us down at 9:30 pm. The staff is quite rude as well. Always telling you another 15 minutes to calm you while hours are passing by. So expect to wait a long period before you sit down. Pros: No Pros Cons: Long Waits - Rude Staff more
