dealership use pressure sales tactics 7/8/2012

This review is for the Toyota Marin Certified Used Car dealership on Rice Dr. in San Rafael. Sales managers and representatives at this dealership use pressure sales tactics and to talk to customers with no appreciation. \r I saw a vehicle on the dealerships website and I took quite a bit of time out of my day to visit the dealership to see the vehicle. Without even giving me a chance to see vehicle a sales representative sat me at a desk and tried to up sell me into a vehicle that cost thousands of dollars more than vehicle I was interested in. I informed sales representative that I was only interested in vehicle that I had seen on their website. Sales representative then asked me how I was going to pay for vehicle? I informed sales representative that I would need to finance vehicle. Sales representative then walked over and talked to a sales manager and came back and asked ?how much do you have for a down payment?? And tried to pressure me into allowing dealership to order my cr more

I don't normally write reviews, however this had to be noted for future patrons interested in buying a car and feeling completely comfortable and trusting of the person giving you the vehicle "info". Lana was our sales rep on my boyfriend and I's 2007 Camry Hybrid. She was absolutely wonderful! Rarely do you find a sales person who doesn't actually "sell" you something, but relates to your situation and tries to work with what works best for you. So friendly and easy going too (we had our dog, and the dealership brought him in to give him treats)! We almost didn't get the Camry b/c it looked as though it had been taken, but she saw how much we wanted it and fought for us to get the car, and we did! She didn't want us to wait long to do paperwork, so she helped the financial supervisor who was busy with other customers, by grabbing some documents to get us started any way. A wonderful first car purchase!!! 7/25/2011

I just bought my first car from Toyota Marin. I was really nervous about it - buying a car is not my area of expertise, and this was a huge financial investment for me. The service I received at Toyota Marin (I worked primarily with Salesman Victor Duru, but also with Jay (the Sales Manager) and Keith (Finance Manager)) was excellent. Victor was patient with my questions (I didn't know S meant "sport" so you can imagine what other ridiculous questions I asked about both the cars and the financing), and he helped me find a car that is perfect for me. I had looked at a few other places, but nowhere did I receive the attentive customer service that I did at Toyota Marin. I have had my car for about five days now, and I love it - it really is the perfect car for me. They've also called me to check in and see if I have any questions or needs, which I appreciate. I would recommend this car dealership to anyone looking for great service and good prices. more

Smile in the front, Kick'em in the back. 7/13/2011

We also are having a bad experience. Sure the sales service and smiles were nice. We were sold. But this low-mileage car was a lemon and they're treating us horribly now. Had a similar issue with the service light coming on within the first week of buying the car. We were told it just needed to be reset since they just performed their standard service. We brought it back, they reset the service light and a month later... $4500 in replacements and repairs. We're taking this up with them now. So far they're treating us as if we bought the car somewhere else. Horrible horrible experience. Not the dealership experience you would expect, beware of a polished chicken shack. more

CAR NEEDED: New Year's weekend! 5/29/2011

An unusual sequence of events led us to Toyota Marin on a rainy New Year's weekend. Our son was to drive down to UCLA on Monday. The used Corolla I had purchased was not the vehicle on the title! After checking out prices and cars online - safety, value, etc. I decided to take Michael with me to check out the inventory at Toyota Marin. WOW. This was not the car buying experience I'd had at BMW ...The salesperson was knowledgeable, relaxed, and thorough. We bought the car (the financing dept. was also great), and the service department presented us with an immaculate vehicle. Steve Nix, our salesperson, went over all the functions of the car with our son...Could not have been happier! more

Car Sales Service 5/17/2011

We had a great experience with the staff at Toyota of Marin. All of the staff had a very cheerful, happy spirit and were very helpful. Our salesman was especially nice to work with. He was very patient in explaining all the details regarding the new Camry we were looking at. Once we agreed to buy the car, he even told us to come back and he could continue to answer our questions on how to use the many functions of our new car. Being seniors, we especially appreciated that offer and did return for his gracious help. Over all we had a very enjoyable experience and feel at home at Toyota of Marin. more

Best Car buying experience ever. 5/7/2011

I have purchased two cars from Toyota Marin. The first time I purchased a new car and received excellent timely service and the y worked with me to get a price that I could afford for the car that I wanted. The second time, the used car department called to ask if I wanted to trade in my Prius. I went and checked out their inventory; they had a car that I was interested in at another dealership, which the ydelivered to me the next day. Again, they gave me a great deal and even worked out a payment plan so that I could put down a larger down payment and cut my car payment monthly. This is the only dealership I will ever buy from and I highly suggest it to everyone. The staff is incredibly friendly (even the salespeople who I weren't working with would stop by and chat and make sure that I was comfortable.) Toyota Marin made what is usually a stressful situation into a very pleasant, easy one. more

Excellent Care for Special Needs 5/4/2011

I recently purchased a Certified Pre-owned Sienna mini-van to accommodate a spine injury so I can lie down after driving short distances. The sales staff were very caring and supportive, conducting much of the sale while I was lying down in the back. They gave me lots of time and attention, with no rush or pressure. They seemed to genuinely care. However, once the sale was complete,the sales staff's extra helpful attention seemed to fade some. Their service department has been wonderfully helpful so far, and the free shuttle so helpful! more

Incredible Experience, Will Return When Buying New Car 3/15/2011

I found Toyota Marin through a listing on autotrader.com, I found a vehicle at a price and mileage I literally could not believe. I thought it was too good to be true, but I figured I had nothing to lose by going over and checking it out. \r \r Enter, Victor Duru.\r \r On first meeting Mr. Duru I was greeted with a friendly smile and a handshake, he took me over to the car, answered all my questions, let me inspect the vehicle at my leisure and accompanied me on a test drive. Mr. Duru was my first point of contact in person, with this dealership and I remember thinking to myself.\r \r "If everyone here is as open, honest and just plain cool as Victor. This is going to be alright."\r \r And it was. \r \r My entire experience was pleasant, informative and NO PRESSURE WHATSOEVER. This is the best car dealership I've ever dealt with in over forty years! They are direct, honest, non-pressuring, very friendly, highly knowledgeable, and efficient. Terry Allan, my prime salesperson, was great. He had all those characteristics plus a good sense of humor. Miguel Trujillo, who was my wife's key point person for her Prius purchase a couple of years ago, was also very helpful.\r \r These guys made what is usually a painful process an easy one and I'm now driving a great new 2010 Prius.\r \r As good as it gets in auto sales. more

Very straightforward 9/21/2010

My wife and I decided to visit Toyota of Marin after reading all the positive reviews online. Turns out the entire staff was very friendly and straightforward. They had the exact vehicle we were looking for on the lot and the posted price was close to $3,000 under MSRP, a very good deal. Sure we probably could have spent an entire day working the phone with other dealers trying to see if we could squeeze an even better deal somewhere but we just didn't want to deal with the headache. We appreciated the honesty and simplicity. more

Excellent transaction! 8/2/2010

We bought a car from Toyota Marin, though we live over 60 miles away in Saratoga, and even have a couple of large Toyota dealers within 5 miles of where we live. The story: my wife was looking for a small yellow-color car, which we discovered was not easy to find. We contacted quite a few dealers, but the typical response was ?we don?t have one available? . Seeing our request on an auto website, Luis Duran of Toyota Marin contacted us, and was able to locate a yellow Toyota Yaris at another dealership (outside the area). We had been considering another brand (for much less money) but Luis persuaded us to buy the Yaris - a decision helped by the fact that he and his managers went the extra mile of bringing it over to the dealership, even though we had not made a final commitment. Yesterday, we made the hour + drive up to Toyota Marin, despite the fact that we have several closer dealers in our immediate area because they have a superior inventory and a wonderful sales staff! If you want a Toyota, make the drive to Marin Toyota and ask for Paula Londow! She will do everything she can to make your car buying experience positive and painless...you will leave happy! more

Long wait but good service 7/14/2010

I bought a used Mazda 3 from Toyota Marin and I found my sales person Victor Duru extremely helpful. I could tell that he was trying to make the whole process as fun as possible. There was a very long wait to see the finance person unfortunately, but Victor waited with me and even offered to drive and pick us up food! more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER 7/7/2010

Toyota Marin has been the worst experience I have ever had at a dealer. I found a red 2000 civic and spoke with Paula Londow. I told her beforehand what my credit score was, what my down payment was, and if she can work with me. I was very clear if they dont have the lenders then do not waste my time by me coming down there. I filled out the credit application and came down to check out the car. I arrived and it was in the shop. Understandable, but I got to check it out so I was happy. Paula assured me that she would have it ready by 2pm the next day to test drive. I arrived and waited for her. I went and saw the civic still in the shop.Alone still no Paula. She then sent Luis Duran to tell me it wasnt ready and never came herself. I went ahead and spoke with the only bright spot in the whole dealership a really nice guy named neil..a mechanic...After speaking with him I felt comfortable with purchasing the vehicle. We spend a lot of time shopping the internet in order to make sure that we are promoting the lowest price and overall best value on a comparable used car. We value price cars so that the customer knows they are getting a great price right up front without worrying about being the best negotiator. This in turn, saves everyone time, money, and a lot of headache. We apologize if there was any miscommunication and take responsibility for that, but we cannot post prices including tax, title, and license fees because they vary by address. The customer pays sales tax in the city that they live in and that can range between 8-10% depending upon the county and sometimes the city tax. Shady salesman 6/26/2010

Tried to get an OTD price on 3 vehicles as I was going to purchase that same week. Salesman, Joel Weiss emailed me that Toyota Marin Scion was different from all other dealerships, "they broke the mold of selling cars, the price you see is the price you pay. It is a transparent transaction". Well it was NOT, as I was about ready to travel 200 miles to buy I checked one more time with Joel, he then said that the out the door price was the previous price plus tax, lic, and other adding another $2500 to the price he originally gave. The dealership is NO different than any other, the price on vehicle is what it is plus tax, lic, etc. Will not buy there. more
