Zing Salon

I love this hair salon. Im a brunette turned into a blonde. Ive been to several hair salons in Boulder and in the Denver area in the last five years and i had not found a salon that knew how to make blonde look good until i discovered Zing. I have been going there for the last year and i absolutely love it. Rachel Fox does my hair and i love how she does it, shes also very friendly and has alot of energy, i always enjoy my expirence with her. Shes very good at making fake blondes look more natural :) The last time i went in she added carmel lowlites and i was kind of nervous that it might make the blonde look too dark but it didnt at all, it actually made it look better. I also got some pink feathers and i love them, i always wanted pink streaks but the feathers are even better, they dont fade and last a long time. I get alot of compliments from little girls, young and older women and even men. I also love the actual salon itself, its very modern and the enviornment is great. All the girls get along like sisters and Joy (the owner) is super nice and fun. more

Very impressed, and very happy with my experience there! I was nervous at first going there-because I have had some pretty bad experiences in Boulder, and because I was worried it would cost me an arm and a leg (its a beautiful Salon RIGHT near Pearl/Spruce)-and scared that I would STILL be unhappy with my hair. BEST SALON EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD! I don't plan on going to another salon. * I got a great price during Happy Hour-Rachel did a great job on my hair! She listened to what I wanted, was SUPER friendly- *Everyone was super kind and friendly to me-EVEN though I was going in during happy hour and not during the full priced hours (This friendly attitude has NOT been my experince in Boulder in other salons). This is the first time in literally 4 years that I have been happy with Salon results. Got a color, and highlights done-Rachel was smiley, kind, and listened to what I wanted. SO NICE! Everone was friendly-even the girls NOT working directly on my hair. The salon is CLEAN inside, the girls are nice to eachother,and costumers, *friendly*clean*GREAT* service. GO GO GO if you haven't tried it, DO!!!!! Can't believe I waited this long to try Zing salon... Price is fair-Job is well done-Rachel did a great job :) so happy... more

Dude, check this place out - just got new feathers in my hair - there was a whole table of them man! Like 40 different colors or something crazy like that! The girl that did them - way talented - Antonia. People there way cool too - great music, fun salon, energy rocked! more

My wife and I just relocated here and found Zing while exploring Pearl street one weekend. I'm much more of a barber shop guy but my wife talked me into being adventurous and I'm so happy she did. The salon was really busy but Joy, the owner, took me in about 10 minutes and I've never had such a great haircut. My wife was going crazy for feather in the hair craze there and was checking out the entire table of feathers. We had a blast and can't wait to go back! more

I've been in CO for 10 yrs. & have been searching for a stylist who knows how to cut my thick, curly hair. I finally found someone who knows what she's doing! I had Joy who spent 2.5 hrs. on my hair. She colored, cut, and styled it. I've never had a stylist who paid so much attention to detail. I'm used to stylists who try to do my hair as quickly as possible. Joy seemed genuinely concerned about the condition of my hair. She sold me a fabulous DermOrganic shampoo. I thought the price was fair for all the time she spent on me and for the product. I love my cut and color. I thought the dogs in the salon were adorable and everyone who worked on me was very friendly. I highly recommend Zing. more

Im not one to go online and say bad things about where i have been, however i just couldnt sit back any more. I have been getting my hair done at zing for awhile now, i always thought that i would stay. However in the past few months every stylist that i have grown to love like Mattie, and Veronica are gone. I now have been informed that Mattie is with Travis at Chaz Salon in Boulder. myself and my friends will be taking their business there too. Its such a shame to see such hard working stylist be treated so bad. I was over joyed with my last cut and color with Veronica that i was going to bring in my whole family to see her. But now she is gone and i am sure no fault of her own. the owner does not run a fair business and treats her stylist as though they dont matter. Dont you get it they keep your salon going. Its such a shame to keep seeing these people go. Cant wait to see Mattie and Travis again. more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!! I honestly don't understand how this so called ""salon"" has 5 stars. I wish I could give it a zero, but I can't, and after reading this, you'll know why, My first visit was AMAZING, which probably sounds strange to say, but that was when I met my current stylist Sierra (she now works at Salon Sabiha, since quitting this terrible place). Since that first experience I thought highly of the salon, assuming that all the stylists were as talented. Things started to go down hill fast. The second time I went I got highlights, or so I was expecting to get highlights. After my hair was dry, though, I couldn't see any difference in my color at all. I waited a few hours afterward deciding if I should complain or not. Eventually I gave them a call and they got me an appointment for highlights with the owner, Joy, free of charge. I came in, got seated right away, and she got to work. After she was done a few of her friends stopped in and she told me she was going to step out, but that she would be back in 20 minutes and she ""wouldn't forget about me"". Well, 30 minutes pass and I'm starting to panic, she's no where to be seen and my head in starting to burn. Another stylist takes over and finishes up. In the end they looked great, thank god, but I could not believe how unprofessional the owner was, of all people. The third, and last time, I got my hair cut and colored there was the worst of all. I don't remember his name and I hope to god this guy got fired. I went in hoping for a light brown over all color for a fresh look and a trim, since I was growing my hair out. Not only did my hair turn out BLACK, it took him two tries to get an all over color, because the first time I ended up with spots of blond. If my hair being over processed wasn't enough, he also butchered my hair. Instead of the inch I wanted off, he went the extra mile and cut 3 off. This was one of the few times I've cried over my hair. Finally, I did return to the place to get my eyebrows waxed because I was downtown and it was convenient. After waiting 30 minutes someone finally helped me. She sat me down and as she was putting the wax on she announced that this was the ""first time she's done this before"". Nothing is more scary than having hot wax out around your eyes by an amateur. After she was done I went home and noticed that, although they looked tidy, they didn't even look alike! All in all, if you want to get ripped off and end up in tears, do not even think about going to Zing, and trust me, I've had my share of nightmares from this place... obviously. more

I love love love Zing Salon and especially Joy! She has done my hair now for a couple years and I am still amazed at how great it looks every time she finishes coloring, cutting and/or styling! My brother in law got married out here and we had Joy do some of the bridal party, including all the flower girls and mother of the bride - everyone still talks about how beautiful they all looked. Plus talk about convenience, what other salon is open 7 days a week - that's unheard of. The staff is so friendly and I love the fun atmosphere every time I'm in there. Plus the products are great and it's like getting an education in hair care each time I ask about something new. I always feel like I can take a little better care of myself after visiting Zing. Go go go to Zing! Pros: Amazing results, fantastic staff and atmosphere Cons: Couldn't think of one if you paid me more

I brought in several photos of the hair style I wanted -- going from long hair to mid-length layers. I even clarified where I wanted the long layers to fall -- about three inches past my shoulder. Not only did my cut fall about 4 inches short of this point (nothing below the shoulder...), but my style was dull and looks like the hair cut I had back in 3rd grade - cut straight across. To top it all off, my idiot hairstyles Jamie took about an hour and a half to do the entire thing. He kept 'adding layers' and chopping off small pieces on the end. It was also nice to see the smoke coming off my hair from the flat iron. Turn that thing down, dumbass! more

I am really picky about my hair. It is curly but I like to wear it straight as well, so I require a stylist who can give me a flexible and great haircut. I have been looking for a new stylist for 4 years since moving to Boulder. I decided to check out Zing and they set me up with Salina. Upon arrival I was welcomed to the salon and offered something to drink. Then I met Salina. To say she is an amazing hair stylist is an understatement! This is the first hair cut I have received that was styled the way I like it. The cut itself is perfect to my taste and exactly what I was looking for. Salina really listened to what I wanted and gave me a cut that was flattering to my face and the shape of my head. I was and am beyond impressed by her and will certainly be a returning client. It has only been a few days and I have already received a ton of compliments and inquiries about my hair cut. Salina also gave me tips about how to style my hair so that I can successfully recreate the style at home. If you are looking for a fantastic hair cut and great company schedule with Salina! I am VERY picky about my hair. I'm only in Boulder during the summer months for school. So I looked up salons online before I arrived. Zing wasn't one of the ones on my list to try. Keep in mind if I found one I liked I would stop looking. Well.... within the 4 weeks I have been here I've gone to 4 different salons. I just happened to pass Zing last night on the way to Amu and was curious as to what a hair salon was doing open at 9:15 pm on a Saturday night. When I got back to my apt. I looked it up online and was totally shocked. Open 7 days a week (yes you read that right)!! Open 10:00am to 10:00pm daily!!!! And they're talented!!!! I guess I can stop looking now. Pros: Staff is friendly yet professional & efficient Cons: I can't take them with me when I leave in August :-( more

I just got my hair done by Travis. He did an amazing job and gave me a cut that will keep me coming back for more. I loved listening to the Britney Spears music and everyone was super friendly. I just got my hair cut and colored by Alden for the first time and I couldn't be happier! I am really, really picky about my hair (I have long hair and have gotten it chopped too short too many times) but Alden took his time with me to understand what I wanted, as well as to suggest improvements to my style. I felt like he really listened to what I was saying. He did an awesome job and people haven't stopped complementing my color. I would definitely recommend this salon and this stylist! Okay if you really have to know the best secret in Boulder its Alden! I got my hair bleached and cut by him.. First he is fast...second he is funny..and last but most important he cut the best bob Ive ever had. Alden has worked in New York and it shows. I am so happy to finally have a qualified hairstylist that cares and knows his profession. Pros: I got my hair done at 8pm Sunday night Cons: I cant take Alden home with me!! more

I personally was not satisfied with this salon. I should have asked how much a hair cut was before I took a seat. I felt that my stylist did not listen to what I wanted and went really short without asking me. After talking with the owner I will be sure to never go back. I was not satisfied with the way I was spoken to during a phone call trying to express my feelings. more

I have been comming to Zing for two years now and have always had the same stylist,( that I love) Salina. I don't know what all the gossip and bashing is about. Zing has a steady staff Travis has been at zing for a little over one year and Sierra has been there for a while now as well. I can say that because I am a regular. Sure you dont have to like the owner of the salon, i personaly don't know her enough to make a judgement. You can't bash the whole salon just because they may have a high turn over rate or you didn't specificly get what you asked for, maybe you didnt give your stylist enough information, or maybe they didn't ask enough questions. But one thing, I can stand by is I am completely satisfied with my results from my stylist I always change my hair color and cut, she totally keeps up with the latest trends and makes me feel good. She always remembers whats going on in my life so I know she cares and listens. Lets all admit when we visit our hairstylist we vent out whats going on in our personal lives so with that being said I would recomend Zing to anyone looking for something a little different and something a little safe. My whole family now goes and visits Salina but im sure you can find your perfict stylist at Zing. Pros: I absolutly love my stylist and the fun atmosphere Cons: parking is horrible more

I just moved here from California and I didn't think that the hair salons in Colorado would compare to those found in Hollywood but I was sorely mistaken. After using CitySearch to find places near my house and after reading a bunch of positive reviews about Zing I decided to check it out. The guy who cut my hair was Travis and he did an absolutely amazing job. The cut in California would have cost me easily twice as much and looked half as good. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a new stylist. Pros: Enthusiastic Employees, Great Hair Stylists, Plenty of Products to choose from Cons: Parking in Boulder is a pain more

Once again the majority of people writing posts talk nothing about the way this salon is run and focus more on the owner. This is a hair salon filled with highly energetic employees and all of you just sit here and say how horrible the owner is. I see Joy on average once again when I get my haircut from Travis Smith. He does an excellent job and Joy and I talk about all kinds of things. She is really friendly and has quite an outgoing personality. Those of you mentioning all these ridiculous accusations about her using illegal narcotics, where is the proof? If she really was highly involved in narcotics, do you not think that it would start to show somehow? Lay off talking all this negative stuff about anybody outside of work. This is a site meant to give negative or positive feedback based on your visit there. For some reason I don?t think that the majority of negative comments on here have any real credibility. I am writing this review on behalf of myself. Not because anyone told me to write it, not because I felt obligated or was being paid, but because I merley felt the need to voice my opinion. After all, it is a free country isn't it? I got hired as a receptionist about a week ago. I had never heard of Zing prior to this. I just wanted to mention, from the bottom of my heart, how wonderful of a busniess I think Zing is! I have never felt so passionate about a place I had barley worked at for a week. I had been through about four jobs in the past year. I quit most of these jobs, or was let go of for the same common reason, the management and I did not see eye to eye. I had managers that didn't train me, managers that were sketchy, managers that weren't honest, managers that say one thing and then do another, you name it and I've had it for a manager! In the week I've worked at Zing I can honestly say I've never felt so comfortable at a job within such a short amount of time of working there. Joy, my manager, is wonderful. Not only does she care about her staff but she takes the time to listen. Just today, I brought up an idea for better orginization for papers and even though I had only worked there for a week, she listed to my idea and gave me the ok to try it out. Joy values every LOYAL member of her staff. I also have never had a manager that is so open to talk to about anything, let alone that I feel comfortable opening up to after only knowning them for a week; Anyone that can be that honest with someone right off the bat, must be a very grounded and a good hearted person.
