Go to Dante's California Style Pizza in Stockton instead 2/24/2008

If all you people want the best pizza in northern California dont go to Sac or Zeldas go to Stockton California and look up Dante's California style pizza. I have been eating there for 20 years and you can get pizza or steaks or pastas or sandwiches. The dough is great! The sause is great! The pizza is the best if you dont like it I'll pay you back! Pros: it's pizza Cons: it's not Dantes more

This is the place that should be avoided. Lousy service and lousy pizza 12/11/2007

i've heard alot about zelda's. I tried it oneday and I was disappointed. I think it was overly hyped by the owner. The pizza was lousy. It was not I've expected. Honestly, Costco pizza taste alot more better than zelda""s. I will not even feed this to my dog..I'm really sorry but I have to be honest Cons: alot more

Over hyped pizza... but it is good. 11/26/2007

After having read numerous reviews, both internet and magazine, about Zelda's, I just had to plan a visit. I happen to be in Sac today for business and found myself near Zeldas... and hey, it was lunch-time! more

Cafeteria food 10/19/2007

If I didn't know better I would think the reviews for this place were written by the owner or an employee of the restaurant. My family and I bought a pie yesterday and we're very disappointed by how awful the pizza was. Imagine hard crust that has so much corn starch on it that it tastes like stale corn chips, add tomato sauce without spices and the smallest amount of cheese possible throw in a few slices of pepperoni overcook and presto you have a Zelda's pie. Pros: Not too many Cons: The pizza more

Great pizza! 9/24/2007

Great pizza and from someone originally from NY I must say it rivaled a few other NY spots. I love the variety and they are quick with their services. Definitely try this place!! more

Yuck. 8/15/2007

I traveled all the way from roseville due to the good reviews on this place. I was NOT impressed with this pizza and actually couldn't even eat my portion due to the yucky consistency of the dough. There were huge gross chunks of meat all over the pizza that gagged me even though I am a pretty big meat eater. ;Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. Won't ever be going there again! Cons: Disgusting Pizza more

Yum!! 8/8/2007

My husband and I went to Zelda's for the first time this past Sunday. I had heard lots about it and wanted to experience it first hand. Wow! I loved the ""dive-y"" character of the place, and the waitresses were perfectly fine---not rude, just busy. We didn't call ahead but only had to wait about 25 minutes for our pizza, and it was sure worth it!! I've eaten lots of pizza in my time, including authentic Chicago-style pizza in Chicago, and Zelda's is right up there. I highly recommend the place, but I suggest you don't try to show up there with the entire family. It's small, dark and crowded and doesn't have anything to help little kids pass the time. Great for date night for mom and dad, though!! Pros: The pizza!! Cons: Limited seating, parking on street only more

Gourmet Pizza Face!!! 7/30/2007

We were there for two hours and turned ourselves into pizza faces. Beer was extra cold and pizza was extra tasty. And she offered to turn on the tv for us and we didn't even have to ask! That's good service. And she had really big...eyes. And the waitresses has tig old bitties! Pros: pizza, beer, rocks Cons: no lap dance more

wow best pizza anywhere i mean anywhere 7/24/2007

Zelda's is the very best pizza i ever have had. The pizza is so very very different than i am use to and i am glad to be part of the history of this pizza join i love you zelda i live in davis and try to come a lot but have had hard times and have not been to you in about 6 months try to go soon thank you zelda's Pros: Great food they put there love in to the food Cons: the long wait but it is worth it! more

Service DOES count for something... but so does pizza 7/5/2007

I'm a native of Sacramento and I've been going to Zeldas all my life. The pizza is devine! It has such a unique crust, you can eat this pizza with a knife and fork if need be. But the flavors are AWESOME. Do yourself a favor at Zeldas and ""Keep It Simple"". I like a fancy shmancy pies too, but here, some mushrooms, or pepperoni is really all you need. Pros: Hands down BEST pizza around Cons: Hands down WORST service around more

Best Pizza on Planet Earth! 5/15/2007

Say what you will about the service, the decor and the wait... just shut up when it comes to the pizza. It's the best there is. I grew up in the Midwest and have very high standards for Chicago Pizza done right. The sauce, the cheese, the crust... divine! While they don't have my favorite Hawaiian Pizza, they do have a pesto pie that's great, as well as an all-veggie delight! Pros: Pizza and Cocktails Cons: Slow Service, Campy Decor more

whine whine whine blah blah blah 5/12/2007

folks really should grow up and see things for what they are. Zelda's is a pizzeria, not the concierge at a hotel. the servers are not rude, but they don't waste their time or your's with silly chit-chat. there are no windows to the place so the weather is a moot point. if you go to Zelda's know you're getting good food so sit down, chill, and enjoy the place's funkiness knowing you're partaking in a part of Sacramento's history. No carboard cutout chain in the 'burbs comes even close to the experience here. Pros: food, vibe, location Cons: suburbanites playing ""urban"" in discomfort more

One of the top five in Northern California for Deep Dish Pizza 3/15/2007

Our family are deep dish fanatics that developed this fanaticism from eating deep dish pizza at Giordano's in Chicago - one of the three mecca's of deep dish dining. Using Giordano's and Uno's (in Chicago), as the benchmark, we would rate Zelda's as slightly below them, but still excellent. We ordered three pizzas, the combo, the pesto, & the brocollini, and all three were outstanding. The pesto was the best we have had anywhere, including Zacharie's in Berkeley. If you love pesto, order this pizza! I would rate Zelda's on a par with Zacharies, although Zacharies is made with conventional pizza dough whereas Zelda's is made with cornmeal. We had no complaints about the service, but we went at 5:30pm on Sunday which is one of their slow days. Our waitress was cordial and not rude at all. The atmosphere is typical funky pizza parlor which is a good thing. We ordered enough pizza to take it home and the next day, it was just as good reheated. We only wish Zelda's were closer. Supposedly there are now two good deep dish pizza places in San Fran, but we haven't had a chance to eat at either of them yet. Try Zelda's on a Sunday if you want to avoid the crowds. By the way, we ordered our pizza's 30 minutes ahead of time by phone and we had our food within five minutes of being seated. You can't beat that for service. The menu is on their website. more

Comically Bad Service, Good Deep-Dish Pizza 2/11/2007

I used to live downtown and we would frequent Zelda's Pizza when we were in the mood for a sit-down pizza place. The place looks like it is a bar with a divide in the room and dining tables added to the area where you'd normally see pool tables. Whenever we have walked in, the host has usually been less than gracious. One time we walked in and the host had her back to us kinda hunched over the front desk there, she lifts her head and glances back over her shoulder ... sees us ... then lowers her head back down and mumbles ""how many?"" with her back to us as if she were talking to her front desk ... barely audible ... and then she turns around seemingly annoyed and goes ""HOW MANY?"". It was hard to tell if she was putting on a show or not ... like intentionally being rude to be funny. Each time we went there, the wait was about 45 minutes for the pizza. I think one of the best knee-slappers we had there was when my then roommate asked for a refill on his soda and the waitress looked at him and straight faced said ""you don't want to spoil your appetite"" and didn't get him a refill! Never sat at the bar, so that may be a different experience, I don't know. Pros: Good Deep Dish Pizza Cons: Comically Bad Service, Long Waiting Time more

I miss Zelda's 1/1/2007

Friends and I from UC Davis used to go to Zelda's on Thursday nights. After a couple of months the staff actually became friendly! My favorite is the pesto pizza, especially the crust. I'm not a pizza expert, but this is THE BEST PIZZA I've ever had. I eat so much I almost get sick, I just can't stop. Whenever I'm in Northern Cal, I make a stop at Zelda's. Pass on the ""salad"", order ahead, and BRING CASH. If you're too tender and sensitive for the attitude, head to a chain instead where customer service has a higher priority than the food. more

Best place to get pizza in Sacramento 10/22/2006

Now If you want great or quick service this is not the place to go. The wait is incredibly long just for a table and if you dont order your food before you get seated then you are going to have another long wait for food. Also, the service staff is so busy that they arent very friendly. However, the pizza is amazing which is why there is not only a long wait but is the reason this has been a midtown Sacramento institution for years. If you want to experience what midtown Sacramento is all about and need a change from the suburbs then this is the place to be. Pros: An original place to get pizza, A midtown icon Cons: very crowded/long waits more

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 9/28/2006

We are hard working, church going, animal loving...fools. We've worked in the restaurant business for many years and have NEVER experienced service like this before! The waitresses Pros: They had napkins Cons: Everything else more

Zelda's Pizza is tasty 8/27/2006

All you Clowns that cannot stand Zelda's because the waitress does not smile at you or is too matter of fact, and you think the service is bad, well learn to live outside your damn bubble a little! I can't stand you sheltered primadonna's! Pros: Great atmosphere and charachter and good pizza more

I love this PIZZA! 7/4/2006

I really love great food (it's a hobby of mine.) Whenever I talk my friends out to eat, we go to one of three places. 1) Crepeville 2) Beto's or 3) Zelda's. I've been going to Zelda for awhile now. I must say I'm a big fan of their pesto pizza. The crust is my favorite part, and it tastes great when you eat it cold the next morning! The serive is okay. I've never been offended by anyone there. Granted it's not the homiest place around, it's definantly worth the food you get. Pros: Great Pizza, Grown up Atomosphere (no arcades or screaming babys) Cons: Must pay in cash. more

not QUITE the best.... 5/16/2006

Yes, I do give it a ""Highly Recommended"" thumbs-up. Yes, the crush-velvet retro feel adds a rare and unique ambiance. Yes, the drinks are strong. And yes, the sass of the wait staff walks a tight-rope of frustration and entertainment. But if you are looking for a pure ""Pizza"" over the dining experience, go with Luigi's. Zelda's is a great pie, no doubt. But I think the ""9.2"" rating is inflated by the Zelda's expereince over the product. AS WELL....something I almost forgot that is a testament to their horrible service. There was a time that I took a date there some 10 years ago or more and waited patiently @ my table for the wait staff to take the bill. And we waited. And we waited. I even went so far as to alert them that I was fixing to leave and I needed to pay. After about an hour, I said forget and walked out w/ my date in tow, facing no opposition even as I casually strolled down the sidewalk. Believe me, in my younger years It was not beyond me to employ the ""dine and dash"" for excitement and the lack of $. But this was purely out of frustration. It's like they are so aloof, they don't even care if you pay! more
