I gotta tell ya, I had high hopes for this place as so many people I know raved about it. My experiences here have left much to be desired. The food is decent but, in my opini...

Decent, but not noteworthy southwestern food. 2/12/2010

I finally made it out to try this recently, I love southwestern food so I was really looking forward to it. Unforunately my food didn't end up tasting that southwestern. I loved that they brought cornbread rather than chip and salsa, but I didn't realize this at first so I ended up ordering a 4.99$ all you can eat chips appetizer that comes with 3 types of salsa which I believe change often. This was pretty good, my pasta dish was pretty good too, but it's just not good enough to make the trip to the mall and deal with all that hassle when there are so many other great restuarants right around there. This particular night though they did have a great beer special where you could get 3 $ beers and keep the glass, but I think that's not all the time. Pros: cornbread, southwestern more

Yuck 6/26/2009

I had the worst steak I was ever served. It was tough, poorly seasoned and overcooked. I've had way better everywhere else -- even at Sizzler, Bonanza, etc. To be fair, some of the food we had was good -- the cornbread and the butter. They have a Texas theme though I doubt many Texans make Margaritas with sweet and sour mix. Real margaritas are made with real lime juice. The beer was OK. Pros: Service is friendly Cons: Food is mostly terrible more

Substandard food, poor presentation and over priced. Worse than airline food! 9/26/2007

I just dont understand how this place could have almost 5 stars. i think the employees must be pumping the numbers. i had a chicken enchilada that was worse than taco del mar. My girlfriend had the mac and cheese with chicken and for 15 dollars this was the biggest crime. Service sucked. I was not served water and the waiter took my unfinished beer when I requested water. This place stinks (it would not let me say it su*ks) and I regret my decision to deviate from my original plan to eat at PF Changs. If you want real 5 star food at a decent price, take yourself to Betty in upper Queen Anne and you will pay about the same but get great food! Avoid this crappy chainstyle food. more

I Stand Corrected 2/12/2007

I had written a glowing review of this restaurant based on past experience. Although, we have been customers for several years, I had not eaten there in the last 12 months, and should've waited before writing the review. Just 2 days ago, I went to eat lunch there with a friend. On this particular day, we were seated promptly, but then again, we came after the busy lunch rush. The service was mediocre, because the waiter seemed indifferent. Oh boy. Their signature corn bread was a bit mushy, and we waited quite a while to receive it. When our dish came, it was delicious, no doubt, but the portion amount could've satisfied a toddler, but NOT an adult. How disappointing. And to add insult to injury, the dish was $11.99. Hmm....one would think they would at least get enough food to cover a small dinner plate. Pros: Prices are too high for the small portions Cons: Gets very busy on certain nights; long waiting time more

Careless service, mediocre food 1/16/2007

I've only been here once, but I was not too dazzled with my experience at Z'Tejas. I ordered a chicken club sandwich and was faced with the classic sandwich dilemma: way too much of the makings and not enough bread to accommodate it. Because of this, it was really awkward to eat my sandwich without having it spill all over me ... When my server came by to ask ""how we were doing,"" I told him that my sandwich was falling apart. His response to this was: ""Oh ..."" And then he gave me a hapless look and walked away! Maybe he was caught off guard to hear a negative response to what is probably a question he asks about thirty times a day, but still, I found his lack of willingness to fix my meal very irritating. For an ""upper-scale"" restaurant, he came across as being very unprofessional and rude. It seemed the least he could've done was offer more bread for my $8+ sandwich. Overall, the ambiance was decent enough, and the food so-so, but it's really the service that compels me to give Z'Tejas a poor review. Pros: good for groups Cons: service!, so-so tex-mex food more

My family has gone to Z'Tejas many times. We love it because of it's connection to Texas (we're from Texas) and for the great food. Each visit has been a great experience, even the kids cheer when I suggest Z'Tejas. My son loves the pan of cornbread that is served prior to his meal. The rest of us love the fish taco appetizer (and the cornbread, too). My newest favorite there is the shredded, roasted pork enchiladas. They are delicious. Make sure you have a margarita while you're there. They make the best I've found in the area. Pros: Delicious food, Ambiance, The Best Margaritas! more

Mall Chic, not tragique 1/18/2005

Beautiful, relaxed, change of pace from the frantic food-court-less Bellevue square mall scene. Entering Z'Tejas was like being transported millions of miles away from the parking garage it is so conveniently located on...to a premier view of the construction site across the street. I'm not a southwestern food critic, nor do I critique the difference between Bobby Flay's Mole and that of Rick Bayless. But I can say that the food we ordered was great, the ambiance was terrific, and although the service was a bit slow and not quite polished...it was just fine. And by the way, I don't care if it was authentic or not, but the warm cornbread with whipped butter was too darn good for words. It would make a carb-counter give up and face the fact that you just gotta shove a little warm cornbread in your face. Pros: Ambience, lighting, Food TASTE, Beautiful People here Cons: , Price (a little), Beautiful People here more

I didn't know you could buy a spot on this list. Even though I recommend this restaurant it's linked as a sizzling hot place to meet singles. It's a mall restaurant with good food but it's not even close to a cool singles hang-out. more

You must stop here:) 9/5/2003

I love over the mountains in the Yakima Valley and when we go over to Bellevue or Seattle for a shopping trip, it is a MUST that we stop at Z'Tejas for a Margarita. No matter who I am with, they are required to stop and have a margarita and the ahi tuna appetizer with me. I love the place!!!!! Pros: Best Margaritas more

Smoking New Happy Hour 6/28/2003

The new Happy Hour they have there is a great deal! The apps are all half off and the margs are super cheap. It runs 7 days a week from 3-6:30, which is nice for those of us who like to drink on weekends! The bartenders are really nice and they remembered my drink even though I only went once before (6 weeks ago!). Only down side is that it is tough to find. Third floor of the parking garage! Pros: Good Service, Great Happy Hour, Great Margaritas Cons: Tough to find more

Oh it's good! 1/10/2003

I too missed this place from when I lived in Austin! When it first opened, I had to crack the whip on them. There were not any jalapeno margaritas that are favorites in Austin. Some of the food was not prepared properly. A few waiters were less than desirable. But once the kinks were worked out...this place is great!! The wait staff is attentive and nice. The drink selection is great. And my cajun grilled chicken has never disappointed!! more

This sure isn't the Austin Z'Tejas 11/17/2002

Z'Tejas was my favorite restaurant when we lived in Austin, TX for a few years. We went today for lunch. The ambiance was good and our waiter was very attentive. I had the ahi tuna entree. The blackened part tasted just like charred wood might. It certainly didn't taste like food. The tuna was very cold..still almost frozen and it was flavorless. The sauce was good. The veggies were overcooked and the rice tasted like something you'd get in a cheap chinese tv dinner. My husband's pork enchiladas were bland and cold. We thought we'd save the day with the ancho fudge pie we loved in Austin. It's served all hot and gooeyn, not here. It was a slice right out of the fridge. Although it was tasty, it wasn't the heaven we knew in Austin. Z'Tejas Austin would be embarrassed about their Seattle counterpart. Pros: good service, nice atmosphere Cons: bland food, not Austin more

tasty, ""suburban trendy"" fun 8/28/2002

""Suburban Trendy"" means cutting-edge for family-men and -women:) Most people will like the atmosphere, and the food is interesting and fun. The chef is careful not to offend pallates (just like suburbia -- safe!) by serving anything with any kick to it on the side. Hey, at least they are brave enough to go there! Bravo! (Take note of the tasty seafood skillet dumplings, served with spicy sauce on the side). Skip the bland nachos, go directly to the house margaurita (stiff and interesting blend) and expect emphasis on southwestern food. Don't let the name ""Tejas""fool you -- very few signs of real Texas food here -- but don't let that take you away from some southwestern treats to be savored. PS -- I came here with a pre-arranged group of more than 20, and the service was fabulous. This place is well-managed and therefore, great for groups! Pros: great service, good, creative SW foo Cons: no Tex Mex here more

I like it 8/26/2002

I love the steaks and the strong margaritas. The Gorgonzola New York Strip is the among the best I've ever had. The margaritas are a little on the strong side and tasty too. I like it there. Pros: great food, service, decor Cons: werid location, parking, no view more
