this place must be open on reputation alone.i should have paid attention to the fact that any ""best of"" awards this restaurant has are at least fourteen years old.staff and server were excellent but the ribs were tough as was the pork chop and the cut of beef.our server explained to us that wes, ribs are more ""backyard bbq"" and not supposed to ""fall off the bone."" well that's fine i guess but they were chewy as if they were just done even though we were assured that they spend a minimum of four hours being smoked/cooked. i have never gone to eat any bbq with the expectation that anything wouldn't be tender as that's kind of the point of slow cooking things for hours on end.it's obvious this place has lost it completely.too bad. more

Waste of $$$ 3/31/2012

Well, hadn't been to Wes's in over 5 years so I figured I'd try it Sat night with my son. I considered it a waste of hard earned $$$, he was ""ok"" with his meal, I wasn't. Ordered their FingerSucker for $12.00, chose my two (2) meats (beef & ham) and proceeded to be very disappointed. Is it sad when the best thing about the meal is the cole slaw? I got my $12.00 plate, it consisted of a ham steak like you see packaged at the super market, same size & thickness. Then a piece of beef (I swear it had NONE of the consistancy or texture of ANY beef I'd ever had) that was about the size of a flank steak, but like the ham, only 1/4"" thick. It could have been anything, with BBQ sauce on it. I should have driven a few more miles & spent a few more dollars and gone to the Outback and gotten a real piece of beef. I guess it's my own fault for ordering something other than ribs at a rib house. But remember, fore warned is fore armed. more

Wes' Rib House disappoints . 3/2/2009

The meal was a disappointment. The pulled pork had no consistency. I expect my pulled meat to have chunks of meat in it, this was just mush, and it had salad in it (small chunks of carrot and other green stuff). The chicken was burnt on the outside, and cold on the inside. The waitress apologized and brought me another chicken, which was burnt on the outside and warm in the middle. My wife got the ribs which were burnt on the outside, tough, dry and chewy. The beans were sour (too much vinegar??). The cornbread was great. I know an open pit wood fire is supposed to make great meat, but if you char the outside of everything, then everything tastes the same. We?ll not be going back again. Cons: Food not appetizing more

What ever happened to this place? 9/30/2008

I used to love this place but after the last time, I'm not sure I'll ever go back. Here's what happened: Four of us sat down and ordered drinks. Waitress came back with two of the four drinks because she forgot what the other two were (we all got a coke, so I can see where she got confused). So we told her what they were and ordered our some nachos and our food. I got the smoked piggy platter, and the rest got a pulled pork sandwich. She came back about five mins later and brought us a side of french fries (which we didn't order) and said she forgot what drinks the others had ordered (remember it's a coke). She then left and finally brought them the cokes (it's only been about 10 mins). She then came back a couple of mins later and brought us the nachos and of course forgot what those two people ordered again. So once again we told her and stared eating the nachos. We each ate about two chips each and realized how stale they were. I showed the waitress by actually bending the chips and she took them back. When she came back out, she gave us the same exact plate back. It was so obvious that a blind person could tell. I let her know that it was the same plate and that I didn't want it. At first she argued that she couldn't take it off the bill because we ate about 5% of the plate, but then agreed (luckily we had our food by this point or i wouldn't have eaten anything). Then the cook came out (who was some old Armenian lady) and stared saying that nobody has ever complained about the cooking before, that we were the first ones. WTF? I've never gotten into an argument with any cook before and I've been a server and cook before. You don't come out and argue if you're a cook. Go back to Armenia lady! There is plenty more that happened but I don't have enough room to write it (like how she charged my card 3 times, and told me to smoke a blunt when I started to get mad at them) It's such a shame, because this place was a hidden jewel. Pros: Usually good food, Prices Cons: Service, Location, Cook more

Not worth it 5/5/2008

I went here for dinner over the weekend, and I'm a steak and ribs lover period. Tried it out with my boyfriend and trust me if it's too good to be true, it really is!! The outside looked very nice but the inside is a whole nother story, our waitress was very nice but as a former waitress myself, the service was just terrible. If you have to go ask someone about the type of drinks you have then thats a problem, ordered a soda and though it had ice in it, it tasted so warm and flat. Yuck!! Ordered a steak sirloin medium with a salad, the salad tasted dry and when I got the steak lets just say it tasted like a sponge it was that soft and still had fat in it, once you cut inti it there was like a white stringy thing in it....that ended my appetite. I thought this place would be great but it wasnt, none the less staring at messy tables all around just disgusted me, they werent even cleared off. more

If you like authentic bbq, DO NOT GO HERE 4/14/2007

We were intrigued by the location and somewhat impressed by the ambience but as soon as the flacid onion blossom came out, I knew we should have gone some where else...I'm from the south--I know good bbq, this sucked, plain and simple. Wes's boasts in its menu of some heavenly St. Louis style baby backs. I ordered a rackplatter, thinking I'd be totally safe...well, I was wrong. The tough ribs, lacked flavor and were totally unspired, you could tell there was no passion in the kitchen. The chicken tasted burnt. The fries were okay...waffle. The only items I slightly enjoyed were the corn bread and cole slaw. Don't be lured in by the low prices, they are skrimping on quality cooking. Pros: Ambience Cons: Everything else more

Used to be great. However, it has declined steadily over the past 10 years. more

This is the best??? 8/14/2004

My second visit. Very disappointed. BBQ sauce lacked flavor. Chopped pork not up to others I've had. And the pork ribs were dry and tough, had to gnaw them off the bone. If a Texas Roadhouse ever opens in your neighborhood, their ribs are superb, and they literally fall off the bone. And Firefly's in Marlboro and Framingham Mass. are head and shoulders better. Also better: Redbones in Somerville, Ma. I won't be back, and the location is scary, difficult to find without GPS. Pros: service, beer selection Cons: , food taste, quality more

Southern Comfort RI Style 7/30/2002

Wes' Ribs got no flies on them...they run neck in neck (or should I say thorax for thorax) with down home Southern Style sweet, hot, saucy, meaty, need-another-buncha-napkins, just like ma used to make picnic fixins. But don't let your mom see you slobbering over them like that at home! more
