Awesome food, great wine, excellent service 12/11/2009

My fiance took me to Vincent to propose. We had the tasting menu with wine. The staff was great---especially our server, Jennifer. They played along with his plans for the proposal so that I didn't know it was coming. They were polite, and our water and wine glasses were never empty. The food was delightful, each course beautifully plated with well-balanced flavors and a great wine pairing. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and polite. Hopefully we can celebrate anniversaries with trips to Vincent! Pros: Tasting menu with wine pairings Cons: Parking in downtown Minneapolis more

Unpleasantly surprised 10/15/2009

I have mixed feelings about Vincent. The first time my husband and I went there was when we had excellent service and food (coq au vin). About 6 months later we came back and had the total opposite. We waited for about 15 minutes to even get a menu. The waitress seemed ""out of it"", not friendly, engaging or helpful. We ordered wine which never showed up, in fact nothing showed up, not water, not bread, not anything! I don't know why the staff ignored us. The restaurant was busy but, I noticed many other patrons ordering and receiving things in a timely manner. We weren't rude to anyone, we just waited patiently until we couldn't take it anymore and then we left. As we were leaving the manager came over and said to us ""you're leaving"" in a surprised tone. I said to him very calmly ""yes, you're staff seems to be too busy to serve us so we will go elsewhere"". And you know what, he just let us walk out, with no apology or anything. I know some people who complain about the slightest thing at a restaurant just to see what they can get for free but, that was clearly not happening here! He didn't even need to offer us a free meal, just his assurance that he was sorry and would see that it wouldn't happen again might have made me feel better about the whole thing. I've considered giving them another chance because we did have a good experience once but, even in light of that I am extremely hesitant to go back and have not been back in over a year. I have such a bad taste (no pun intended) in my mouth from the last time. I really got the feeling from everyone from the hostess to the manager that they thought we didn't belong there for whatever reason and I'm not sure I want to belong there if that is how they treat customers........ Pros: The food is good- when you get it Cons: Service was terrible more

Homophobic, rude. 9/9/2009

My boyfriend and I went out to celebrate our tenth anniversary. We had a decent dinner, and were enjoying a special night. We were holding hands, and the chef took away our plates of food and told us to leave. We asked why and he told us that our kind was not welcome at Vincent. We did nothing other than subtley hold hands and talk... things that other couples were doing in house-yet he was kind and engaging to them. It was horrible. Insult to injury happened when we were presented a bill even though the chef took away our food. We refused to pay for a meal we were not allowed to finish. We left being called anti-gay derogatory names. I have heard the guy was pretty mean, but this is of a way different light. Perhaps he does not know that discriminating against Gay couples is against the law. He will soon find out. We called our friend Chef Anthony Bourdain (a friend of the place and he was incredulous too-it was he that sent us there). We went for solid French cuisine. We left feeling angry and quite upset. Legal action is being worked on. This guy is so wrong. Pros: nothing Cons: Homophobic chef more

Great Place Awesome Tasting Menu 6/30/2009

It was our anniversary and we wanted someplace special. We have walked by this place and always wanted to eat there. We have recently said, its been a long time since we have had a meal that made you say ""WOW"" That was awesome. Vincent provided it. We opted for the tasting menu along with the Wine pairing. We figure the Wine pairing was less expensive than the one bottle of wine we were going to order. They did nice pours and never were out of wine. Vincent himself stopped by the table and was very gracious. The food was awesome. Vincent, if your reading.. Loved your restaurant and your food.. one suggestion.. loose the curtains.. Good luck on the Triathlon! Pros: The Food Cons: A little Spendy, but WELL worth it more

Vincent ""NOT A Restaurant"" 2/21/2009

My husband and I have been to ?Vincent ? A Restaurant? twice ? once together and another time with my sister and brother-in-law. Both were horrible experiences and we?ll never eat there again. more

Excellent Service 4/30/2008

I went with some business associates on a Tuesday night. We didn't have reservations but they weren't busy and could easily accomodate us. Our server was very good. She managed to be there when we needed her but she was not intrusive. The food was good but not great. Starters were well received. The mushroom rissotto is enough to get me back. Two of us at the table ordered the rissotto and after the first bite neither said much until the plate was empty. Two others had theScallop Starter and raved which prompted me to order it as my entree. Things went a little wrong after that. My scallops could have been warmer but I didn't send them back. One person at the table stated there was so much going on with his walleye dish that he wasn't sure he ever tasted the walleye or could say for certain that it was walleye on the plate. I didn't have dessert but did taste one of the specials, a passion fruit sorbet. It was so good, I'm thinking about going just for dessert. I do recommend Vincent - A Restaurant. The Starters were amazing and I want to try other things on their menu. We were never hurried and all enjoyed the evening. Pros: Great Service Cons: Some disappointing dishes more

French comfort food 7/29/2007

Vincent is a great guy. He's like his food mellow without pretense and dedicated to making you happy. Vincent's isn't fancy French food, it is about the food the French eat. Sometimes at home, competent, swayed toward Alsace and it is what it is. It is a great bar, you'll find fine food, service and drinks there. The bread and butter are super. It is a nice night out and a major winner for first dates. Pros: great bar food more

Wonderful dining experience 5/30/2007

My husband made us reservations here for our first Valentine's Day as husband and wife. We were not disappointed! They had valet service that took care of the parking problem and checked my coat once we got inside. more

Wonderful food, service, atmosphere 2/6/2007

My recent expierence at Vincent was amazing at worst. The atmosphere is simple and lovely - so exquisitely french. The wait staff was extremely knowledgable and helpful in making our wine selections. The food was simply delectable (I had the braised wild boar ). Don't leave without trying the chocolate cake that is currently on the menu with a glass of port wine. Vincent came out to greet my date and I, and we have nothing but his praises to sing. I have had plenty of expieriences dining in France, and this was very reminiscent of those expieriences with a little twist and dash of character compliments of Vincent himself. Pros: Great atmosphere, excellent service, unforgettable food more

go back to learn the real frensh cuisine 9/16/2006

our anniverssery was yesterday 09/16/2006 . we choose this romantic place like some said ,""vincent restaurant"" in the center of minneapolis downtown. the first they had no hostess by the door welcoming us ,we had to go the stand ,and for first time visitor ,""you job to look for her or him to set you "". after that we wait in the table for about 15 minnute for the wittress to take the order from ;but we didn't mind because we were excepecting the exelent frensh cuisine .and worse come when the food show up ,relly it has nothing to do with frensh cuisine ,after when we left ,i relise that people pay$$$$$$ for the word of french cuisine not for food of french cuisine.my suggestions to the chef ,as someone who been in lot of places in france and eat in a lot of places their ,you need to go learn more about french cuisine as well as moroccan cuisine""on your way"" .not worthy at all. more

one of the worse frensh cuisine 9/16/2006

it was the worse frensh cuisine that i ever eat from france to morocco to united state, as start i got ,fois gras""cuit au torchon"" cooket in cloth ,but a part of it had shape of can,and for ""gross piece""entre thai snapper it wasn't fresh. the best part ,is if you paying with a gift card you cannot charge the tax and tips in it. more

Elegance without the attitude 7/7/2006

We gathered several couples to revisit a recent cruise experience on a premium cruise line. Vincent's quickly made us forget the wonderful vactation as we entrusted the server to bring us the wine flights and appropriate pairings. we were not disappointed. My wife and I personally extended our thanks to the chefs by taking a brief tour to the kitchen. They were professional, humble and quiet in there appreciation while confident, creative and expert in the cuisine delivered. Pros: Atmosphere, service and unique combinations Cons: None as long as you valet park more

The Best in French food in Minnesota! 3/25/2006

A Great time-- very well crafted dishes and a nice waitstaff-- these people are on top of their game-- great traditional Classic Frenchie food! Pros: Price, dining room, dessert! Cons: Parking more

Not Fantastic 1/8/2006

Maybe my expectations were too high but I recently ate at the bar with my girlfriend on a Friday night. Bartender was as attentive as he could have been but it seemed as if he had to service the whole bar area including the tables. Spanish Sketches were really good, bread was fair. The fries are good but not one of the tops in the cities as their reputation states. Burger was average, was not to keen on the sauce/mayo that was on it. Will probably give it another try. Maybe in the restaraunt area. Nice place though Pros: Bar Area, No Wait, Spanish Sketches more

Dissapointing (10/21/05) 10/21/2005

I've dined at Vincent on at least 5 occasions in the past 2 years for personal and business dining experiences and I've been delighted. It saddens me to report that we dined there last night (10/21/05) and we were extremely dissapointed. We encounted an unfriendly hostess (no greetings before or after dinner, no coat check) and over-cooked, unremarkable food. My grouper was a dissapointment as was my husband's choice, the pork filet- both overcooked and nothing special. An order of fried chickpeas proved to be actually inedible (saltless, pasty starch sticks?). On the bright side, the bread, squash soup, wine and desserts were excellent. However, for the cost of the experience ($180 for 2, including wine) I expect someone to hang up my coat AND present me with an outstanding entree. Maybe Vincent took the night off? Sadly, we will not return and are crossing Vincent off our 'favorites' list. Pros: wine list, desserts, location Cons: unfriendly hostess, porrly cooked entree more

ooooolala! NOT 8/17/2005

this is NOT the same restaurant we loved....service was off from the start (9/15/06)begiining with the curt and very young woman at the front;she seemed really stressed and unwelcoming -barely greeted us-and the French guy (not Vincent) had way too much attitude. the ONLY familiar face was the always happy bartender...there are too many other options in town now to drop this kind of cash. it was late enough that we thought we'd have a great experience, but no luck. Pros: still a nice bar with great bartenders, decent bar-fare Cons: overpriced, mediocre service, food uninspired more

Great lunch restaurant! 8/11/2005

We held a going-away lunch for a co-worker here and we were all very impressed with the restaurant. The food was excellent was a good value for the price. Our service was average, but the waitress was extremely busy and did the best that she could. I will definitely return to Vincent and would recommend it to others. Pros: Imaginitive dishes, Good Value, Nice atmosphere Cons: Hard to find parking more

Won't Give It aAnother Try 7/31/2005

Snooty service, not enough food for the price. Cornish hen and duck were so over done. My husband sent the game hen back--we noticed another table had to do the same. We had to flag down the waitress for another round of drinks--and she admitted to not being busy. She did not have any knowledge of the beer selection nor did she know her wines. We sat with dirty drink glasses and dirty dishes at our table for at least 15 minutes. I observed her resetting open tables for more guests while we sat with a dirty table. Our waitress didn't offer coffee after the meal even though we did order dessert. The desserts are good and so is the bread that is offered. This is an expensive restaurant and we will not be going back--definitely not worth the money! Pros: Bread, desserts, atmosphere Cons: service, price/value, food more

always a good performance 6/26/2005

we visit every 2-4 weeks and this place never misses; if you have questions about the wines, ask the sommelier or the manager they are VERY knowledgeable and pleasant frequent menu changes keep us comin' back for more...MPLS has so few places worth a regular trip, but this is one of them! Pros: consistant food/servi, wine list*****, great bar menu Cons: reservations needed, can be noisy more
