Shelly is very very good. What I like most is she listens to me. I have had a great deal of experiences where stylist will just do what "they" want with my hair. Also she will ask me before she whips out the loads of product or uses a flat iron on me. I am a big client on receiving my hair blown out with a round brush. Believe me, there is a skill to it. Most don't know how to do it. Shelly does. ( Seperate and blow out each section until its smooth and completely dry) I know its not hard, but for some IT IS!!!!!!! Give Shelly a try you will love her. She's a great therapist too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Shelly has been my hair stylist of choice for years now, and I don't know what I would do without her. She always knows the latest techniques and styles, and keeps me looking contemporary, without going too edgy. Best, though, is her "bedside manner". I've finally found my stylist in Ronnie! I recently went to Joseph Michaels after reading and hearing great things online. I was scheduled with Ronnie for my highlights and a haircut and could not have been happier. His detail oriented, creative eye is just what my hair was looking for. I have been searching for a great hair stylist since I moved to Chicago over a year ago, with no luck despite spending a fortune. I was at a happy hour recently with a woman with great hair. I asked her where she got it done and she referred me to Stacie. She couldn't remember her contact information so she turned to her friend who also had beautiful hair and also went to Stacie. I loved their cuts so much I called and made an appointment despite having gotten a cut about a month ago. I had my hair done yesterday and I absolutely love it. It's exactly what I've been wanting for several years but could never get quite right. I can't say enough about Stacie's technical mastery, listening and communication skills, and overall talent. She gave me the exact look I wanted tailored to my face shape, hair type and existing cut, and to my current lifestyle. Stacie is every good thing you could hope for in a stylist. I've been going to Shelly for years so when she told me she was going to the suburbs I was devastated to say the least! now she is back at the fabulous joseph michael's salon and me and my lifeless hair couldn't be happier! I have long thick hair and shelly knows exactly how to cut it so it lays light and pretty. When I walk out of an appointment with shelly i feel like a million bucks (and the feeling lasts for weeks!) i would definitely recommend shelly if you want someone who is professional, listens to what you want but also gives expert input and advice! love you shell, so glad you're back where you belong! more

I have been going to see Gregory for many years now. I hate to give up my best kept secret, but he deserves the recognition! Gregory is AMAZING. I have curly, coarse hair that I have always struggled with. I have never been able to find someone that could cut my hair the way I wanted let along make it look good!! My hair is extremely difficult. Gregory is like a magician. My Mom (who loves him as well) has the same hair troubles and he is able to straighten our hair and give us a cut that most people would die for- straight or culry hair) I am so loyal that last time he moved I swear I didnt get my haircut for over a year...I literally was about to book a flight to Miami and luckily he came home. PHEW! If you can get an appt with Gregory- whether your hair is curly and difficult or straight and easy- MAKE IT. Anyone that I have ever recommened to him is a lifer as well. Just don't steal my appts:) more

Once I found Margaret, I would never go anywhere else. I have tried Elizabeth Arden (my face HURT after that place), Michael Anthony - (never found the "right" person that did everything the way I like it), that place in Bloomingdales mall (So un-memorable I don't recall the spa name) and countless others...... Margaret is phenomenal. My face is CLEAN, clear, not irritated and I am totally relaxed when I leave. Friendly, will talk if you want to or be quiet if you just want silence... you won't be disspointed. Pros: Non-Irritating, Thorough, Cleansing - PERFECT Cons: Wish I lived closer! I'd be there once a week. more

Shelly is the most talented hair dresser ever! She took a long time to meticulously craft the perfect color to help with my dry, dead and tri-color hair mistakes. She didn't settle for the ordinary, out of the box color. Instead, she mixed different colors to get the perfect blend. After fixing the "root" of the matter and the ends, making them a luscious warm red, she quickly and carefully chopped my overgrown hair into a sculpted and edgy bob. I love love love her. Walking home I actually had two women stop me and tell me that they loved my hair cut and color. Thank you Shelly. I will, of course, be back. Pros: Extremely talented, Meticulous and Gifted more

Gregory is tremendously thorough about his work, making sure you walk out feeling happy with the end result & looking beautiful with a sleek, cutting-edge style. So every girl knows just how traumatic experience having to find a new colorist and stylist can be. Well, I found him and his name is J-D. I can't believe I thought I was even somewhat pleased at the other salon's I've frequented of late while still keeping my options open so to say. On the advise of a few friends and having met J-D I thought what the heck I'll give him a try and boy was I happy I did. Mine is not an easy process to sit through either having color and highlights and cut and style but overall it was such a very pleasant exerience and I am beyond happy with the results. I've had so many compliments on how natural my color looks. Another plus is I start and finish with J-D I never did like having to go from one person for color and the other for styling. He is simply the best. Not to slight the salon itself it is a beautiful location and the overall atmosphere is great - very comfortable cozy waiting area. Seriously I have nothing negative to say about it. Pros: J-D, great atmosphere, comfortable chairs. Cons: none that I can think of more

One of the best salons in the city in terms of talent pool and service. The staff is VERY knowledgeable and easy to get along with, usually most people end up talking to the stylists for about an hour if the clientelle doesn't have anywhere to be (there's usually stuff to drink and much on while you're there which makes it more enjoyable). Haircuts, nails, and spa treatments are always performed with precision. As far as the bad, and this is ONLY due to their new location so this review may be subject to change. The place is hard to get to, Ritchie is an impossible street to find! Also, the actual physical space they have is very bleh. The ceilings are very low, coupled with they have exposed piping like a loft, it ends up feeling cramped. The lighting is horrendous, the light from the windows is all blocked by partitions. Hopefully many of these problems can be rectified in the coming months. However! As mentioned before, if you want to make sure what you need to get done is performed correctly and in a professional manner, look nowhere else in the city. Pros: Excellent Service, Friendly Staff, Pleasant experience Cons: Hard to get to, cramped space more

Gregory Dickenson is by far the best stylist in Chicago. After convincing me to allow him to color and cut my curly, frizzy hair I could no longer even conceive the thought of having some else do it. He had worked his magic and I came away with the best cut and color I have ever had. When he moved away to Miami a couple of years ago, I was heartbroken and had no idea who was going to understand what someone with natural curly hair goes through. I'm really glad he's back! I don't live in chicago and I drive 80 miles to see him, and also flown to Miami. And every trip is worth it. Pros: so much attention to detail Cons: NONE! more

Spyro is one of the best extension hair dressers. I have had extensions from the same people who have done Paris Hilton's and Britney Spears (when they were great), and Spyro's technique is detailed, he is a perfectionist and he will give you the best advice for your hair. As long as YOU take care of them, they can last as long as 6 months. Finally a place in the Midwest you can count on. Pros: They follow up with you, they are on time Cons: They are expensive, but worth it (they last for 5 months) more
