Best

I used to study here while in Law School. great crowd, good food, love the outside patio!

Worst

Had our 2.5 year old who is great at restaurants, tried to order from the Kid's Menu a Turkey Panini, but asked them not to ""panini"" it because our daughter isn't really into me...

Best Coffee on the Planet 9/21/2008

Urth delivers QUALITY food and the BEST coffee I have ever had anywhere in the world. Their products are organic and they care about what is put on your plate. I drive all the way across town to get it and my only complaint is that there are no Urths east of Beverly Hills. The salads are incredible, fresh, original and totally satysfying. The baked goods are equally addictive. You will not go wrong if you order anything here and be prepared to buy some ground coffee to take home! Pros: Coffee, consistent qualty of product, terrace Cons: no parking, insufficient seating, need cafes in the Valley or Los Feliz more

Save your money $$ and eat somewhere else down the street 8/11/2008

I would not waste my time at this restaurant. I am really picky about good food and price is not the factor when I write this review about the restaurant. Desserts are mediocre and the food is horrible. I say with experience of visiting 3 different times. Please save your money and eat somewhere else down the street. There are so many other good places to eat at in LA. Cons: FOOD, DESSERT, PARKING more

Great Coffee creations and the desserts are heavenly 6/24/2008

I go here all the time with the girlfriend and the service is wonderful each time. Go here during the week you can periodically see a celeb (Lindsay Lohan, one of the guys from CSI: Miami, a Baldwin brother (can't tell them apart)) were a few we saw there. I would say that the coffee is consistent on its preparation (unlike Starbucks where one day your drink may taste great...and the other it seems the barista poured too much milk). I haven't really dabbled into the menu much...since I use this as my dessert and coffee place after dinner. The prices are reasonable. Their large coffee mugs run about $5...and two can share it. \r \r The only drawbacks is the utter lack of parking. Given its proximity to another restaurant and the nightclub, Villa, you'd be very hard pressed to find parking Thursday through Saturday night (however, every day is a challenge to find parking). WeHo's parking restrictions make parking off in the residental areas a very bad proposition. more

A great place with a great heart! 6/19/2008

After a wander through the Bodhi Tree, the Urth Caffe is a great place to get that book started! The drinks are wonderful, hot and fresh. The desserts are decadent or simply Delicious! The wait is never long. The people watching is always entertaining and the location is perfect. I have had the chance to meet the owner of Urth Caffe and he is a good soul with a good heart. People and businesses like this shoud be supported! A perfect start to a Sunday morning! Pros: Location - Food - And Service Cons: I wish the outdoor patio was bigger! more

Worst delivery service ever 6/17/2008

The good food fails to make up for the ALWAYS HORRIBLE SERVICE. My order tonight took 2 hours to be delivered. In the past, they have done the opposite of my desired order. I will never order from them again and I recommend anyone who doesn't like unpleasant surprises to do the same. more

BAD Tea! 3/6/2008

The Urth Cafe in Santa Monica is less crowded than the one in W Hollywood, which is good, but as a tea drinker I was very disappointed. They serve black tea in a French press with a small and inadequate amount of loose tea. Instead of bring it right out to you, they keep the tea to steep it in the back and bring it out with the press pushed down about 7 minutes later. If you complain that the tea is not dark enough, or hot enough, they will tell you to steep it more. This has happened to me about 3 times before I quit ordering tea there and started bring my cup of Peet's great tea over there to meet my friend. Even if you order something to eat, like a muffin, they will ask you to leave the restaurant with you cup of competitor's tea. I think they are very rude. Pros: Good Location Cons: Bad Tea more

Worst location out of all Urth Cafes! 11/13/2007

...I'd be repeating the same stories as the reviews above me if I went on- they are all fairly correct. On a more positive note, the other Urth Cafe locations don't have this same downfall- oddly enough, the least pretentious one is defenitely Beverly Hills. I can usually find a seat, and a decent one at that- it's more spacious, no smoking, nicer staff....I have to say, in West Hollywood, you'll be so angry with the whole experience by the time the food comes, you can't appreciate the quality- actually the food is quite good, especially desert. They have the best lattes and espresso drinks I've ever had- but it doesen't ever compensate for ""scene"". Pros: Truly great coffee and deserts Cons: No parking, no seating and no help finding seating more

Prepare for BATTLE! 10/9/2007

One could make a living as an ""Urth Caffe coach."" There are so many conditions, caviats and restrictions to this place, it's borderline lunacy. Let's begin with the parking: none. Melrose narrows to one lane here, and after making fifteen sortees past perpetually-parked cars (each costing 3-4X more than yours), one is ready to call it quits. Then there's the line: a thick, teeming mass of bodies packed near the front door and spilling out onto the stairs. No signs, no explanations: just mass confusion as everyone jockeys for position. If you're able to deploy an agile dwarf through the wall of humanity in order to retrieve a menu, you'll notice dozens of yummy choices. Try to read quickly as Mexican busboys narrowly miss you with trays fill of dishes, squeezing between customers as they work their way in and out. Shout your order loudly over the din of the crowd. Then comes the fun part: looking for a place to sit. Indoors? HAH! Good luck. They have about 3 tables inside, and they're already taken (at double occupancy). Perhaps outdoors? Watch out for that doggie leash! A thousand high-maintenance golddiggers are seated outdoors, each in a terrycloth tracksuit, yapping away on their Razrs behind oversized Jackie-O sunglasses. Hold your breath past the dozen chainsmokers (enjoying their healthy, natural food in the healthy, natural fresh air). If you're lucky enough to find an open table before your food is ready, then you can brace yourself for the screaming brats (No, Taylor, mommy said no!), the homeless panhandlers, the can't-help-but-overhear-them cellphone conversations, the parade of dogs, and the car exhaust. Enjoy! [On a lighter note, the food is excellent and the busboys go out of their way to assist you.] Pros: Excellent food, prompt and friendly service from the busboys Cons: Where do I start? Noisy, overcrowded with annoying, self-important customers... more

great granola, salads, smoothies and lattes 9/25/2007

I love Urth on Melrose. The granola is the most delicious you will ever taste! I've had their granola/yogurt parfait and it's so yummy I bought a bag of granola to bring home for cereal. When I go for lunch, I get the pesto salad with chicken (unfortunately, the side of bread is irresistible), and my husband gets the same only in sandwich form - it's served on ciabatta bread - yuummm. The lattes are huge and delicious. And just this week, I tried my first smoothie, recommended by one of the guys at the counter: kiwi, pineapple and mango. Smoothies are served with those huge boba straws so I sucked mine right down! Now I need to try more flavors. The service is outstanding and there's no attitude - everyone is hardworking and conscientious - every restaurant owner in LA should check it out. Pros: best service in LA, tasty food Cons: takes patience to find parking more
