Very quick and honest 7/9/2010

Internet response from Ryan was very quick and honest ( we bought thru Costco, so quote on price was accurate). Financing adn dealer incentives explained and honored. Al was helpful on site in picking out car and test drive. In and out with the new car in about 1 1/2 hours total. Easy experience.? more

Best Place to Buy a Car 11/28/2009

I worked with Seth initially through email, discussing what terms I was looking for and what kind of car I wanted. First, I found him extremely responsive -- no email ""auto responses"" common from other non-net savvy dealerships. It was a direct series of emails, quick and responsive to every question. He was professional, honest and to the point. No pressure, just information. We agreed on price. I came to the lot and met Seth. Again, not anything like the stereotypical salesman. Patient -- even encouraged a car with less options since he knew I was cost-sensitive though I stuck with the LE version (OK, maybe I do like the power seats after all). There was no up-selling (obviously the business manager was going to discuss extended warranties but with no pressure applied and I was offered chip protection, etc.). The deal we struck was exactly what we agreed to. We had to work on the trade-in but that was expected beforehand -- I had a 15 year old beater that had been in a side-door accident, so I knew we'd have to work on it. I got the mandatory ""visit to the manager"" about the trade-in (not the agreed to price of the auto), but Seth came out several times to apologize for the wait and explain what was going on and I was extremely satisfied with the final deal. I'm a business owner and no stranger to sales myself and I must say that my experience with Seth and others was very positive. I believe in honesty, being straight forward and keeping one's word in a business negotiation. And Seth came through with flying colors. I got the tour of the entire business and I must say they had the cleanest repair shop I've ever seen. Best experience I ever had buying a new car. Pros: Salesman more

Pushed Around 8/24/2009

I found a used Yaris advertised for just under 11k on Craigslist at the Gladstone used dealership and immediately made an appointment to test drive it. During the test drive, the salesperson mentioned the car being priced at 16k. I told him about the KBB value and the original advertising price, and he feigned ignorance. Um, hello, NEW Yarises don't even sell for $16k, especially the ones with absolutely no features (no power locks, power windows, etc.) Fortunately, after deciding that I loved the car, I easily argued it back down to being just under 11k because the original Craigslist ad was still up. HOWEVER. The car was advertised as having a standard stereo/CD player in it, but it did not even have so much as a radio (the spot on the dashboard for it was blank). I told them they needed to get a CD player installed before I picked it up so that it would match its original advertised value. They did this for me. And then charged me $500 for it. However, they told me it was a really great system, etc. etc., and that they charged everyone $500 standard for CD player installation and that they would issue a refund later. Later, I looked up the make & model of the CD player online. It wasn't even worth $100 (usually sold for about $70-$80). I went back to the dealership wanting to return the CD player and get my $500 back. I was pushed around to various different associates and salespeople and departments and no one could give me an answer. I went home very disappointed and wrote the dealership a letter explaining the situation and demanding a full refund. Later in the mail, I received a check for $170. Hello, where was my full refund? I wrote again explaining the situation, once more stating that I should not have been charged ANYTHING for a CD player advertised as being ALREADY INSTALLED in the car and asked for the remaining $330 to be refunded to me. Still haven't heard back. I am very disappointed and frustrated. The car's great, but that's thanks to Toyota, not Gladstone dealership. Pros: Cute car Cons: Lies. more

Passed along to 6 different people 2/22/2009

I tried to work with Gladstone Toyota to buy a used Scion through the Costco program. I ended up speaking with about 6 or 7 people over a 3 day period. Some were plain rude...when I returned a phone call, the person answered by saying, ""Yeah?"", ""Yeah?"" Uh...don't you want to sell me a car? Then a lot of complaining that ""Costco ensures we don't make any money on these deals."" Well, not my fault, sounds like you should not have been a participant in that program and really doesn't make me want to give you more money. more

Twice Burned 7/21/2008

After purchasing a ""Certified"" Toyota from Gladstone - known for their pressure tactics, I discovered that the Transmission fluid was brown, the brakes were down to 3mm, the brake fluid was low and the air filter hadn't been changed for over 3 years. I recently took the car in for a recall problem and while I was there decided to see if they would do anything for me by way of giving me a good trade since they left me with a car I was completely miserable with. After another entire day of pressure tactics and them playing on my unhappiness I found myself purchasing a Honda Accord that I did like much better. I asked them 4 times to ""show"" me the Kelly Blue Book on both my Corolla and on the Honda and they kept pushing it off. In the end I purchased without looking at the KBB. Now I truly regret it. My Corolla was worth the 2K more than the Honda, which I ended up eating on the first deal. I really ""DON'T"" recommend going to these guys for a used car. Cons: Dishonesty and Bad Product more

wonderful service department! 7/17/2007

i have not dealt with the sales dept. of this dealership, but the service department is the best! even the person on the phone who made the appointment was courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. the shop is clean and welcoming. i came to gladstone because another dealership (broadway toyota) was trying to swindle me- they said that my engine was shot and i needed to trade in my car for ""one on their lot"". i obviously wanted a second opinion, and the gladstone toyota service department came through with flying colors. i was given in writing a full and thorough explanation of everything that would be done to my 2000 celica for its 60,000-mile tune-up before anything was done. Skye made me feel appreciated and took his time to let me decide what my options were. they gave me a loaner car for FREE while the service was done, which Tiffany took care of in the most cheerful and personable way, making sure i would be driving a vehicle which would suit me. she was terrific. Skye called me during the course of the service to let me know how things were going, and when he diagnosed the loose timing chain (which broadway toyota said would cost $6000-$9000 to fix, unless i traded it in), he quoted a repair of $746, in writing, and with an honest assessment of how soon it needed to be taken care of. the car was ready to be picked up at the promised time and was spotless inside and out. all in all, it was an excellent experience. it is a long way for me to get there (45 minutes one way), and they are probably not the cheapest in town, but the overall professionalism and regard shown by everyone i had contact with was well worth the drive and every penny. they offered a complete and itemized list of all that was done, and a year's warranty on all parts and labor. i didn't tell them anything about my experience with broadway toyota, so they had nothing to prove to me other than their own professionalism and honesty. what a great shop. more
