Good atmosphere, ok food and service 2/14/2007

Tir Na Nog was another one of our Raleigh stops during our weekend in town. We stopped in on Saturday night when some local irish dancers were performing, and it gave a great vibe to the place. It was pretty crowded, and service suffered a little from it. I ordered the Guinness Pie (recommended by the waitress) and my husband had a burger. We were both not particularly impressed by the food. The burger was overcooked and the beef in the pie was tough. The meat should have either been allowed to stew for much longer or a better cut of meat should be used for the pie. The gravy in the pie was tasty, but that's not as hard of an accomplishment. Still, drinks were relatively cheap and this bar has a lot of flair and nightly drink specials which are good (more so on weeknights). I'd come back to hang out with friends for a drink or two, but not necessarily for the food. more

friendly, authentic but otherwise just OK 1/19/2007

I found Tir Na Nog to be casual, warm with a friendly staff. The layout of the restaurant side, while reminiscient of traditional Irish pubs, was a bit claustrophobic. Don't get seated near the door to the food prep area in the back -- an unholy smell (turned out to be tons of peeled onions for brunch the next day) was tough to live with until a staff member took care of. Food is not the emphasis here -- come to drink adn be with friends more

Restaurant with Irish Flair 2/11/2006

This is the greatest pub in downtown Raleigh and should definitely be on your list of bars to see during your next pub crawl. This pub has an Irish feel to it and is a fine place to hang out with friends and take in the local entertainment. The beer has a large selection of beers on tap including Irish standards Guinness, Bass, Harp and Murphy's Irish Stout. If you are hungry, be sure to try their fish and chips, nachos or Guinness-flavored cheesecake. more
