Editorial review from Citysearch 4/12/2014

Don't ever leave an animal over the weekend unless you find out what they charge and how soon you have to pay the bill. My Daughter had to leave her dog over the weekend because he had a high fever and brain swelling. They charged her $2,000.00 and starting demanding the $2,000.00 bill in full as soon as she picked the dog on Monday. more

Finally BUT to late! 3/25/2013

Finally Dr. Duckett is gone!\r But it is way to late to save the cat hospital.\r Dr. Williams and Dr. Lindsey are gone and all know why.\r It is all people talk about when the cat hospital comes up in conversation.\r Go to Westside on Mill St.\r \r So sad that it has become the laughing stock of Auburn! more

go elsewhere 1/28/2012

I have to agree with most of the reviews for this place. I WAS a client for 15yrs. and love taking my kids to Dr. Williams and Dr. Lindsey. They treated them as if they were their own. Now I do not believe that any animal is as important to them as the all mighty dollar. It always costs a fortune and when I compared a tooth being pulled to another vet the price was half the cost as The Cat Hospital. My fur babies are my children, I have spent tons of money on them but that's not acceptable. Two yrs. ago I brought one of my cats there on a Sat. and her treatment or lack of was questioned when I returned with her so I vowed a certain DR. would not treat my girls. Two weeks before Christmas I had no choice if I wanted to ease my girls pain and made a very bad mistake and she was seen by that Dr. Her meds were upped even though I was told condition was normal and on New Year's day I had to have her put down. My little girl suffered for a bad mistake.I once again trusted the wrong Dr. but more

Avoid 10/16/2011

For those questioning what became of Dr. Williams, she is now happily practicing at The Sound Cat in North Carolina after being forced from her own practice after its sale-and that is why the place has declined to the abysmal state that most have commented on. I wouldn't bring my cat there to have his nails trimmed. Dr. Williams was a brilliant vet and I have had a hard time finding a vet of her caliber but was fortunate enough to get a recommendation for Martin Maketansky who has offices in both Sturbridge and Charlton. more

You need deep pockets to go to this place! 4/20/2011

Be prepared to pay threw the nose at this place. I could see if we were getting expertise services, but these Vets are no better than any other vets in the area. I've never left a regular office visit without being told I needed to make a teeth cleaning either. Thats how they make there money but $350 for a teeth cleaning???? thats a bit ridiculous! The ladies at the front desk seem either burnt out or they are in the wrong business! more

So glad someone spoke up 4/19/2011

I too had the same bad experiences with the front desk ladies. It's true, when dr. Rosemarie was there it was a totally different story. You could count on first rate care and actually recieve it without having to take out a second mortgage on your home. The new company is absolutely money hungry and doesnt seem to have any compassion for the animals they are paid good money to care for. Shame on the doctor and everyone else there for giving in and losing what brought them to this practice to begin with. People, take your pets elsewhere. There are several better options within a decent radius. more

Very Pricey, not worth the money for the service you get! 4/19/2011

I agree with Sean D. My wife and I use to take our three cats there when Rosemarie owned the company but she sold it to a money hungry management company Pet Partners out of New York. It's all about the money now and is nothing but a money scam. The front desk ladies are extremely rude and poker faced. The doctors do not seem to care about our animals, there was one we did like a Dr. Lindsey that is no longer there that they fired because she tried to help people out who could not afford the triple priced increase in bloodwork they charge now. They are in it for the money only unfortunately, There are much better places in the area to go to. Westside where we go now is very very good and reasonably priced. Putnam Dr. Saul is another good one. Don't settle just because of the name. Its an overpriced place that caters to strictly cats. more

Client 4/18/2011

I had to laugh at the lady under me's response about the cranky ladies at the front desk.....I KNOW exactly what you mean hahaha......One in particular "June" was a nightmare to work with, we got ALOT of complaint regarding her but unfortunately she was there for 9 yrs so were overlooked even if people complained. When Dr. Rosemarie Williams owned the company doing the Iodine treatments things were much different and reasonably priced, she actually cared about the well being of her clients/patients. Not like some doctors when 6pm would come the stethascope was off and they forgot all about their oaths to help felines. No matter if a cat was on its last breath or not. That I think amazed me the most!! But yet fired the one doctor that really did care. Dr. Debbie Lindsey.\r I called last week and spoke with The Practice Manager Nancy who is great and explained i was close to catching a stray i'd been feeding for over a month so it was going to be hard to pinpoint an appt I wasn't sure whe more

Great place for cats! 10/26/2010

I had a cat have the iodine treatment for her thyroid many years ago and it went smoothly and wonderful. \r \r I've taken 3 other cats there for routine visits, spaying, declawing and never had one problem with the staff or the procedures. \r Expensive, as is any vet, but good professional people who know what they're doing.\r \r ALSO wanted to add that I spent $200 more than I did at Auburn for a spay/declaw procedure at Abbott, so high costs are common anywhere. You can go to Tufts or Abbott and pay much more for the same things. And the conditions are quite good at Auburn. I requested to have a tour out back when my cat had her treatment, put them on the spot, and everything was up to par.\r \r People say they lost their pets anyways after going to Auburn. So did I because no one could have cured my cats lymphoma. I have been going there more than 10 years and will continue making the commute there indefinitely.\r \r Pros: Dr Duckett, treated with care, less cost than many other places, hon more

Run away as fast as you can 9/29/2010

I can't agree more with the bad reviews for this animal hospital.\r My cat had surgery here and ended up with a terrible systemic infection. I had it cultured at another hospital and she was full of gram nev and gram positive bacteria. The sterile conditions of this hospitail are very lax. \r \r Going to a cat only hospital seems like a really good idea but I learned that it is more tramatic. Cats howling and screaming are very disturbing to my cat. At least a dog is something she isnt instinctively afraid of. Not to mention the higher rate of exposiure to all the cat born viruses, infections and parasites!\r \r I also agree with the cost reviews. This hospital is owned by business men who require the doctors to meet "Practice Management" goals. It is all about raking in as much money as they can and not about what your pet really needs.\r \r I was told I had to have my other cats teeth cleaned right away it couldn't wait. I left this hospital and my new Vet said my cats teeth were in perfect more

excellent care and follow up 9/23/2010

I have been going to the cat hospital in auburn for over a decade. They are consistently willing to see my cats last minute when they get sick and always follow up with a phone call. I esp. like dr. duckert (sp?) \r \r it is true that it costs more to go here than some of the low level clinics you find throughout worcester like the one on east mountain street. those places are vet farms. they spend 3 minutes with your animal and send you on your way. it's criminal. if you can't afford to give excellent care to an animal, the same care you'd give to a child, then maybe you should rethink whether you should have pets at all. more

Reasonable and willing to work with me 5/21/2010

My kitten got into Nyquil... acetominophen is poisonous to cats, lack of liver enzmes to process it, etc. I called them at 7:30am on a Friday morning and they put me into an appointment at 9am. The front desk ushered me right in. I told them upfront that I don't have hundreds to spend on little kitten and they were gracious and accepting. The vet tech saw him, then the doctor saw him. Dr. Duckett helped me outline a reasonable plan, price and practicality both taken into account, and gave me lot of reassurance. They asked to check in with me over the course of the next several days to see how kitty will do. Pros: Work with me based on my budget. Caring. Fast appointment more

Taken Advantage Of!! 1/29/2010

I wish that i had known of this sight before I started bringing my cats there. At the time I had four cats. So as you can imagine the cost of regular vet visits was quite high. My calico cat Abigail became very ill with a wide variety of symptoms. I brought her in for visits and follow up appointments about twice a month. Most visits invovled my cat having to be sedated. She was put through many tests and I was always given the same answer by the vets and that was they didn't know what was wrong with her. At one point I was told to bring her to a specialist who performed all of the same tests over again for three times the amount of money. A basic office visit cost $100.00 to walk in the door. In total my husband and I spent over $1200.00 within a six month period. It wasn't until I decided to bring her to a local vet in paxton that I found out that Abbie was a severe diaibetic and was in complete organ failure. It was too late to do anything for her so we had to let her go. Hardest more

To Be or Not To Be "A Crook"....hmmm, you tell me!! 1/19/2010

Just found something out today that I HAD to share with everyone. MAKE sure you check your bill before you leave. I just found out today that I have been charged $29.95 everytime I have had appt for my cat. Turns out that everytime I left they handed me a little plastic fecal bottle for a fecal sample of my cat, and me knowing, that since I have enough going on that I would probably not make it back with a sample, but little did I know that "without my consent" nor even of my knowlege they were charging me for the that little plastic fecal bottle to the tune of $29.95 assuming I would be coming back. My question is: How many other people have they done this too, and can you imagine how much money The Cat Hospital of Auburn has made on all of us from this little stunt. The kicker of it all is that my cat has been a patient now for over 6 years and I can tell you, I have had no complaints.....and boy oh boy the change of attitude in that Doctor when I asked I be reimbursed....she t more

The Cat Hospital of Auburn is HORRIBLE - short staffed - inadequate. 11/30/2009

They are fast enough to take your money, but then they do not get back to you with the results! You have to call continuously. They also have doctors who only fill in on a regular basis (Dr. Strassner) and if you get him on one of his last days, he does not leave any consult notes and they refuse to contact him to discuss your pet, so the entire time he is the vet for your animal is wasted since it is never relayed to the other doctors and no one knows what is going on. They are outrageously expensive!!! They do not care about your pets. I have never dealt with a more uncaring group of people in a vet clinic! The entire place is strictly "Office Manager" run and all they want is the $$$. more

Sickening 5/2/2009

I think everyone needs to know that The Cat Hospital of Auburn takes advantage of people!! Dr's don't care about your cat, Staff doesn't care about your cat. What they do care about is over charging and treating you rude and disrespectfuly! They need to get rid of Dr. Duckett and Dr. Asikainen and find some Dr's who know what they are doing and know how to treat the public! Pros: non Cons: Staff, prices, loss of cat! more

Not for the hard times we are having.. 3/17/2009

They took me in on an emergency, but because I don't have allot of money only gave me min care and my cat died anyway. They made it sound like they were doing everything they could to save it. She was there 3 hours and died. My bill was way over 350.00. And then they called me a few weeks later to try to get me to come back, they must be hurting for business if they are calling us poor folk. Pros: none that I can think of Cons: my cat died anyway... more
