Very happy parent 5/8/2012

I took my son in to have his hearing checked since he had failed his hearing screening at school. He saw the audiologist first then he saw Dr. Tamez. Dr. Tamez completed his exam and discussed his hearing test results with us and he began to ask my son questions about his breathing, sleep, and if he had issues with headaches. I was surprised that he was asking because my son suffered from daily headaches and was fatigued most of the time. I had raised concern to his pediatric ENT but was told he would “grow out of it.” After asking how this was related Dr. Tamez educated us both and offered my son a treatment plan. We followed through and returned after about one month; and while my son noticed some improvement he was still suffering from headaches. Dr. Tamez informed me that my son suffered from chronic sinusitis. We discussed options and we decided that he would benefit from sinus surgery and a set of tubes. My son is now years 5 out from his surgery and has only had a few mild headaches. He has become more active and has surpassed his growth expectation. I am so grateful for my son failing his hearing screen at school, otherwise I think we may still be waiting for him to “grow out of’ his daily headaches and fatigue. more

Ugh! What a Horrible Experience! 4/7/2012

Oh my ... What an experience I had at Tejas Ear Nose & Throat! The entire time that I was with ""doctor"" Tamez, I kept wondering if the guy was actually a real doctor. It was one of the most surreal experiences I've had with a doctor. After waiting for an extended time in the exam room for him to arrive, he finally arrives and starts to tell me what is wrong before doing any sort of examination. Then he begins to backtrack after I convey some inaccuracies in his statements. Then one of his assistants flings open the door to the exam room and tells him there is someone there to see him. He seems confused ... first telling his assistant that he doesn't want to see the person, but then quickly changes his mind and abruptly leaves the room in the middle of my examination .... and, in doing so, he tosses my patient records on the counter spilling papers out of the folder. And there I wait again. And, wait. And, wait. He finally comes back in the room and tries to pick up where he left off but he is obviously totally lost. I had to get him back on track. Then he launches into this rambling assessment that made little sense to me whatsoever. That said, maybe I was distracted by looking at the nasty sore on his upper lip, the bandaid on his head, and the food stuck in his braces. Don't know what was up with all that, but it was kinda like a train wreck ... ya couldn't help but look! I almost stopped him and told him to breathe and meditate for a moment so he could get himself centered. The guy was all over the place ... jumping from one idea to the next with seemingly no ability to connect the dots. He then proceeds to tell me that he is going to take a picture of my sinuses ""for education purposes"" and hints to the fact that allowing him to do so is voluntary. So, I politely refuse. When I do so, he becomes very angry and launches into a tirade that I should be developing a synergistic relationship with him and that ""one hand shakes the other"". And then he blatantly says to me that he does not need to give me good service if he doesn't want to. I sat there shocked ... but finally asked him and verified that the photo was voluntary, to which he confirmed ... and again launches into another tirade, verbally abusing me for refusing. It was one of those experiences where you are expecting Allen Funt to walk in and say that you're on Candid Camera! His staff is absolutely lovely. I truly feel sorry for them. As for Doctor Tamez, I sat there totally amazed that this guy is actually a real doctor. I've dealt with doctors with big egos before ... and actually very much enjoy doctors who are confident ... but, ""doctor"" Tamez's ego certainly does not come from confidence. He seems to have a severe attention deficit disorder as well as some other obvious medical issues going on. The guy has some deep pathology for sure! Frankly, he seems emotionally imbalanced to me. UPDATE: After I wrote this review, my girlfriend told me about her experience with Doctor Tamez. He prescribed her a medication and she asked him whether or not it would conflict with the medications she was currently taking. He said that there was no conflict and to take them at the same time. But, when she went to get the prescription filled, her pharmacist told her that there was a conflict and taking both medications at the same time could cause her heart rate to reduce significantly and even to stop. So, he called Doctor Temez to verify that he wanted her to take both medications at the same time. Doctor Temez first told the pharmacist that it was ok to take both medications, but then called back a few minutes later in a panic telling him that she should not take both medications at the same time. This guy is dangerous. See him at your own risk. more

Great Doctor and Staff 12/2/2011

Very professional is all I can say Dr. Tamez helped me in so many ways. I am able to breath and I owe it all to him. From him all the way o his staff is awesome could not have asked for a better ENT doctor. more

Thank you Dr Tamez! 7/8/2011

I had problems with dizziness, headaches and feeling faint and went to my doctor who ordered lab work and heart tests and when everything came back normal he recommended going to see Dr Tamez. After testing in his office he found my problem was related to VOR (vestibular occular reflex dysfunction) and also nasal airway obstruction. After doing about a dozen appointments for therapy (eye ""excercise"" therapy) and using a prescription nasal spray I have not had any problems with dizziness or headaches and I'm feeling 100% again! I recommend seeing Dr Tamez if you have these types of symptoms, too. more

Best Doctor and Staff 7/6/2011

My husband was sent to Dr. Tamez for sinus issues. On the first visit it was noticed there were also other problems we had to address that were more serious. Thankfully this doctor asks all the right questions and digs into the problem to find a cure, if he had not my husband would still be suffering with sleep apnea and have worse health problems. Because he did such an amazing job with my husband I also took my son there now all his sinus issues have been addressed. He no longer has severe sinus headaches his speech has improved, also his mouth breathing has stopped. You may have to wait a little to see the doctor but he is worth it. The promises he makes to you he delivers on with amazing results. more

Great Doctor and Staff 7/1/2011

My 15 month-old son had recurrent ear infections and we were sent to Dr. Tamez by our Pediatrician for possible ear tubes. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The Audiologist was super sweet and was very patient throughout my son's hearing evaluation. Dr. Tamez took his time to explain our son's condition and what our options were. There was no pressure to have surgery, but it was highly advised due to the severity of my son's ears and his significant loss of hearing because of it. We booked his surgery quickly and was highly impressed with the surgery center and Dr. Tamez's work. He was very empathetic towards our situation and treated us like we were the only patient he had. Our son immediately started talking AND walking after his tubes were placed. The result were amazing. We could not be happier with the services at Tejas ENT and highly recommend Dr. Tamez! - Dana Zander more

Be wary 10/18/2010

In my opinion, Dr. Tamez misdiagnosed our daughter and had me thinking she had significant hearing loss for quite a few months before I finally did the right thing and got a second opinion. Boy am I glad I did! He couldn't have been more wrong about her, just as my mothers intution was telling me. He just threw some meds at us claiming he gives them to everyone in austin so she should take them every day. Well we aren't everyone, we are someone. Dr. Tamez treats you like a nobody, and I see now I am not the only one he made feel that way. \r Sorry Dr. Tamez, but I think you have forgotten that your patients pay your bills so you should concentrate on relationships a little more. more

Get a second opinion! 10/18/2010

If you want a doctor who tells you what to do instead of listening to ALL of your concerns, you've found your guy. In my opinion, his arrogance precedes him and is evident even in the first call to his office. As mentioned in other reviews, he seems to act like it is a blessing for you to have been able to see him.\r I had concerns with my toddler, and of course I wanted to take her to the best. He was recommended to us so we gave him a few shots. He did hearing tests that supposedly concluded upon several visits that she was only hearing at 20% in one ear and her eardrum wasn't responding in her right ear. A complete shock to me because she speaks clearly and well above average for her age. After several visits doing to the same thing each time with the exact same results each time, he said we could put in tubes for reassurance or keep her on Flonase for the rest of her life after saying she has a really irritated throat he presumed was from allergies. (another shock to me b/c she didn't seem to at all, and this is my second daughter who I stay at home with. I would know)\r He never even offered to do allergy testing so we could figure out what she was allergic to and resolve it without drugging her for the rest of her life.\r I took her to the pediatric office associated with Children's Hospital within weeks of her last appt. with Dr. Tamez and they found no pressure of her eardrum, no sign of hearing loss, and didn't even know what he meant by 20%. They continued to explain that you wouldn't be able to guess a percentage of hearing loss from the tests performed and that she had absolutely no signs of allergies ( I hadn't used the medication b/c I was suspicious of his diagnosis).\r If you value your own time and want a doctor patient relationship, not a lecture, then do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. more

Great Doc 10/4/2010

I haven't been able to breath through my nose since forever. . . until now! After two surgeries elsewhere that failed to fix it, he did it. Breathing like a champ! more

Great practice! 8/17/2009

I love this office, the staff is so nice and competent and the audiologist Monica is so sweet! Pros: Everything! more

I love this doctor! 8/17/2009

I must admit that I did have a little bit of a wait before I could get an appointment, but now I can see why. This doctor is awesome! He really helped me with my sinus problems. I have never felt better! Pros: Everything Cons: A little bit of a wait, but well worth it. more

Great Doctor 4/17/2009

I was with a terrible sinus problems for many years until I found Dr. Tamez. I think he is a blessing from heaven. I got my surgery with him. He did not was only concentrated with my sinus, he covered all other problems that I had in my body and he helped me to prevent future problems with my health. I would like to see in USA many Doctors as Dr. Tamez. Dr. Tamez: ""Thanks so much and God bless you"". Pros: Yes! it's possible to find an excellent Doctor as him! Cons: Dr. Tamez and his team treat patients wonderful! more

Get a 2nd opinion 4/14/2009

I just today went and got another opinion on the treatment for chronic sinus issues and needless to say the Dr flat out said... ""you do not need surgery again, much less the first time"" \r Dr Tamez just does not listen, wants to blame everthing on sleep apnea. \r This new ENT seems to understand that I just can't breath.\r Pros: Staff- very very nice Cons: Listening ""ears"" more

What office have these other people been going to?! 6/18/2008

What office have these other people been going to that gave bad reviews because it couldn't be the office that I went to. Simply a wonderful experience! Professional and calming staff, environment and physician. I can certainly see how cost can be high, but I also know that MY insurance is what determines that and has NOTHING to do with the physician's office at all and to be honest the cost of healthcare is just high these days. This office is not above average on cost in my opinion. Not only did Dr. Tamez quickly and accurately diagnose my problem, he was able to bring to my attention a neck nodule that I was not aware that I had. Luckily, it was not cancerous, but definitely could have been and if not for him, I would never have even noticed it was there. God bless Dr. Tamez and his caring and helpful staff. Pros: Thorough physician Cons: NONE! more

Great experience, did not run into negatives other reviewers did. 4/22/2008

My daughter had a recently pierced ear that had completely closed around the earring. It was inflammed, infected and needed to be surgically removed. Our pediatrician called Dr. Tamez' office at 10 am and we were in his office at 1 pm. No waiting. Dr. Tamez was great with my daughter, explained what was going on (she was not expecting surgery). He numbed the ear easily, talked to her through the entire procedure. I sat in the room watching....he was methodical, no unnecessary steps, kind, answered questions. We really liked him. His assistant checked our insurance before the procedure and came back in telling us we only had a copay, the entire thing was covered. We returned in 10 days to get the stitches out (a total of five - he had to open front and back to get entire earring and the back out). It has healed nicely and we had no charges at all for the follow up care.\r \r I'd recommend him highly. I have to say I'm a bit stumped by the bad reviews, but as we all know, no one can please everyone and some people just have a negative outlook on things. We personally had a great experience and would unreservedly recommend him. Pros: Flexibility - fit us in, kind staff, thoroughness, personable. Cons: None found so far. more

Poor communication skills 4/3/2008

I'd recommend other ENTs before I'd recommend Dr. Tamez. Poor ability to delineate what his treatment entails and the likely effects. more

Excellent Doctor 4/1/2008

I was very impressed with Dr. Tamez? professionalism, genuinely caring personality and most importantly his knowledge and ability to communicate with his patients. We left his office knowing exactly what was wrong and the cause of my son?s problem. His staff was very helpful in acquiring pre approval forms from the Insurance Company; they were quick, thorough and very pleasant. Pros: Office is in a convenient location more

LOVE THIS OFFICE! 3/5/2008

This office is very friendly and helpful and Dr. Tamez is very thorough and has a great bedside manner. more
