We had our gas fireplace serviced, which was installed about a year and a half ago - we've used it for two winters. The technician did not have any of the special paste to clean the glass and asked us for our glass cleaner (we did make this appointment in advance, right?). Instead of logs, the fireplace has rocks. None were taken out for the cleaning and the "steel wool" material inside wasn't refreshed or replaced. He said he checked the burner and it was "fine." I could have taken the cover off and cleaned it with my own glass cleaner and saved the $150.
My impression is they are generally overpriced. We had Taylor give us an estimate on an air conditioner last year and their price was double the cost of another company. The salesman took for granted we would hire them again since they installed the fireplace. He was incredulous when we told him we were getting another estimate. When he followed up, he tried to back track when we told him we were getting equivalent or better equipment at half the cost from some place else. At that point, he lost our trust.
I called for the fireplace service to give them another chance since they were the installers and we were happy with that work, but after paying $150 for the use of my own glass cleaner, I probably won't call them again.
